The return current induced in a plasma by a relativisitc electron beam generates a new electron-ion two-stream instability (return current instability). Although the effect of these currents on the beam-plasma e-e instability is negligible, there exists a range of wave numbers which is unstable only to return current (RC) instability and not to e-e instability. The electromagnetic waves propagating along the direction of the external magnetic field, in which the plasma is immersed, are stabilized by these currents but the e.m. waves with frequencies,ω 2Ω e 2ω pe 2 (Ω e andω pe being cyclotron and plasma frequency for the electrons of the plasma respectively) propagating transverse to the magnetic field get destabilized. Heuristic estimates of plasma heating, due to RC instability and due to decay of ion-acoustic turbulence generated by the return current, are made. The fastest time scale on which the return current delivers energy to the plasma due to the scattering of ion-sound waves by the electrons can be ∼ω pi −1 (ω pi being the plasma frequency for the ions).  相似文献

The dispersion relation of electromagnetic waves in the presence of magnetic monopoles of electron mass in a uniform magnetic field is obtained. The waves of the frequencyω in the range ωϱii<ω e ϱa are analysed. It is shown that the monopole charges lead to observable effects. Finally, the results are applied to a typical pulsar.  相似文献

The spectral dependence of the electron-phonon relaxation rate γe−ph(ℏω) in metals is studied in pump-supercontinuum-probe (PSCP) experiments with femtosecond time resolution. Investigation of this spectral dependence, which exhibits a substantial slowing of the relaxation rate γe−ph(ℏω) near the Fermi level E F , using the parametrization γe−ph(ℏω)∝λ〈Ω2〉 (ℏω−E F )2 makes it possible to determine directly the electron-phonon interaction parameter λ〈Ω2〉. A new mechanism of a “Coulomb explosion,” where ions are accelerated by the electric field separating charges at the magnetic Debye radius r BB/4πen e, is proposed on the basis of a nonquasineutral model of electronic vortices in a magnetic field. It is shown by means of numerical calculations that in the process of acceleration of the ions a collisionless shock wave, whose front has an effective width of the order of δ∼r B, determined by the breakdown of quasineutrality, is formed in a time of the order of ω pi −1 , where ωpi is the ion plasma frequency. The origin of such explosive dynamics is the formation of “holes” in the electron density at characteristic times of the order of ω pe −1pe is the electronic plasma frequency) as a result of the generation of electronic vorticity by the Weibel instability of an electromagnetic wave. Calculations for a laser pulse with intensity J∼6×1018 W/cm2 show that the ions expand in the radial direction with velocities up to 3.5×108 cm/s. Pis’ma Zh. éksp. Teor. We calculate the elastic and inelastic ωN→ωN, →πN, →ρN, →ρπN, →ππN, →σN reactions within a boson exchange approximation where the ωρπ coupling constant and form factor are fixed by the reaction πN→ωN in comparison to the experimental data. We find rather large ωN cross sections at low relative momenta of the ω-meson which leads to a substantial broadening of the ω-meson width in nuclear matter. The implications of the ωN final state interactions are studied for ω production in 12C +12C, 40Ca +40Ca and 58Ni +58Ni reactions at about 2 · A GeV within the HSD transport approach; the drastic changes of the transverse mass spectra relative to a general m T-scaling (for π0 and η mesons) might be controlled experimentally by the TAPS Collaboration. A ππ, ˉKK, and ρρ(ωω) fully coupled channel model is used to predict the lowest isospin S, P, D, F-wave phase shifts and inelasticities for elastic ππ scattering from threshold to 2.0 GeV. As input the S-matrix is required to exhibit poles corresponding to the meson resonance table of the Particle Data Group. As expected, the ππ inelasticity is very strongly related to the opening of the ˉK channel near 1 GeV, and the opening of ρρ(4π) and ωω(6π) channels in the 1.5 GeV region. The predictions of this model are compared to the various elastic ππ→ππ amplitudes, that were obtained from analyses of π p →ππ+n data. The role of the various resonances, in particular the glueball candidate f 0(1500) and the f J(1710) is investigated. Received: 19 November 1997  相似文献

In the framework of factorization we study direct CP violation in the decays of bottom hadrons containing a strange quark or a charm quark, H b f ρ 0(ω)→f π + π (H b is the bottom hadron and f is the product hadron) including the effect of ρω mixing. We find that the CP violating asymmetry can be enhanced greatly via the ρω mixing mechanism when the invariant mass of the π + π pair is in the vicinity of the ω resonance. For the processes associated with bd transitions, e.g. , , B c D π + π , B c D *− π + π , Ξ b 0Λ π + π , and Ω b Ξ π + π , the maximum CP violating asymmetries can reach about −84%, while for the processes associated with bs transitions, e.g. , , B c D s π + π , B c D s *− π + π , Ξ b Ξ π + π , and Ω b Ω π + π , the CP violating asymmetries can be enhanced to about 95%. Furthermore, taking ρω mixing into account we calculate the b-hadron decay branching ratios. We also discuss the possibility to observe the predicted CP violating asymmetries at the LHC.  相似文献

We have measured the storage instabilities of electrons in a Penning trap at low magnetic fields. These measurements are carried out as a function of the trapping voltage, for different magnetic fields. It is seen that these instabilities occur at the same positions when the trapping voltage is expressed as a percentage of the maximum voltage, given by the stability limit. The characteristic frequencies at which these instabilities occur, obey a relation that is given by n zω z + n +ω + + n -ω - = 0, where ω z, ω + and ω - are the axial, perturbed cyclotron and the magnetron frequencies of the trapped electrons respectively, and the n's are integers. The reason for these instabilities are attributed to higher order static perturbations in the trapping potential. We consider the effect of Coulomb interactions on the average density of states (DOS) of disordered low-dimensional metals for temperatures T and frequencies ω smaller than the inverse elastic life-time 1/τ. Using the fact that long-range Coulomb interactions in two dimensions (2d) generate ln2-singularities in the DOS ν(ω) but only ln-singularities in the conductivity σ(ω), we can re-sum the most singular contributions to the average DOS via a simple gauge-transformation. If σ(ω) > 0, then a metallic Coulomb gapν(ω) ∝ |ω|/e 4 appears in the DOS at T = 0 for frequencies below a certain crossover frequency Ω 2 which depends on the value of the DC conductivity σ(0). Here, - e is the charge of the electron. Naively adopting the same procedure to calculate the DOS in quasi 1d metals, we find ν(ω) ∝ (|ω|/Ω 1)1/2exp(- Ω 1/|ω|) at T = 0, where Ω 1 is some interaction-dependent frequency scale. However, we argue that in quasi 1d the above gauge-transformation method is on less firm grounds than in 2d. We also discuss the behavior of the DOS at finite temperatures and give numerical results for the expected tunneling conductance that can be compared with experiments. We study the features of the dispersion curves and field structures of the fundamental axisymmetric mode of nonuniform layered plasma waveguides in a longitudinal magnetic field. It is shown that the presence of sharp boundaries between layers leads to the appearance of additional branches of the dispersion curves in the frequency range ω Be < ω < ωUH(0), where ωBe is the electron gyrofrequency and ωUH(0) is the upper-hybrid resonance frequency for the near-axis region of a nonuniform waveguide. The fields of eigenmodes corresponding to these branches comprise resonance structures near the sharp plasma-density variation at which the upper-hybrid resonance conditions are satisfied and plasma waves are excited. The frequency interval of such a branch is limited by the resonant frequencies of the neighboring uniform layers. It turns out that in the case of a strong magnetic field ({ie392-01}, where ωp is the plasma frequency having the value {ie392-02} in the near-axis region of a nonuniform waveguide), the fundamental-mode field is localized in the near-axis region of a nonuniform waveguide, whereas in the opposite case {ie392-03}, the maximum wave fields are localized in either the upper-hybrid resonance region or the outer (near-boundary) layer of the waveguide if there is no resonance region. It is found that the whistler (helicon) contribution to the field structure of the fundamental axisymmetric mode is very small for narrow nonuniform waveguides (b < λ0, where b is the waveguide radius and λ0 is the wavelength in free space) if the plasma density on the axis is high compared with the cutoff density {ie392-04}. An investigation is reported of stimulated two-photon emission by Bose-condensed excitons accompanied by a coherent two-exciton recombination, i.e., by simultaneous recombination of two excitons with opposite momenta leaving unchanged the occupation numbers of exciton states with momenta p≠0. Raman light scattering (RLS) accompanied by a similar two-exciton recombination (or production of two excitons) is also analyzed. The processes under consideration can occur only if a system contains Bose condensate, so their detection can be used as a new method to reveal Bose condensation of excitons. The recoil momentum, which corresponds to a change in the momentum of the electromagnetic field in the processes, is transferred to phonons or impurities. If the recoil momentum is transmitted to optical phonons with frequency ω 0 s , whose occupation numbers are negligible, and the incident light frequency satisfies ω<2Ω, where Ω_=Ω−ω 0 s is the difference frequency and Ω is the light frequency corresponding to the recombination of an exciton with zero momentum, stimulated two-photon emission and RLS with coherent two-exciton recombination give rise to a line at 2Ω_ −ω and an anti-Stokes component at ω+2Ω_, respectively. For ω2Ω_ the RLS spectrum contains Stokes and anti-Stokes components at frequencies ω±2Ω_, whereas stimulated two-photon emission is impossible. Formulas for the cross sections at finite temperatures are obtained for the processes under consideration. Our estimates indicate that a spectral line at 2Ω_−ω, corresponding to the stimulated two-photon emission accompanied by coherent optical phonon-assisted two-exciton recombination can be experimentally detected in Cu2O. The B c J/ψ π, η c π decays are studied with the perturbative QCD approach. It is found that the form factors and for the B c J/ψ, η c transitions and the branching ratios are sensitive to the parameters ω, v, f J/ψ and , where ω and v are the parameters of the charmonium wave functions for a Coulomb potential and the harmonic-oscillator potential, respectively, and f J/ψ and are the decay constants of the J/ψ and η c mesons, respectively. The large branching ratios and the clear signals of the final states make the B c J/ψ π, η c π decays the prospective channels for measurements at the hadron colliders.  相似文献

The role of low density upflowing field-aligned electron beams (FEBs) on the growth rate of the electron cyclotron waves at the frequencies ω r < Ωe, propagating downward in the direction of the Earth’s magnetic field, has been analysed in the auroral region at ω ee < 1 where ω e is the plasma frequency and Ωe is the gyrofrequency. The FEBs with low to high energy (E b) but with low temperature (T ‖b) have no effect on these waves. The FEBs with E b < 1 keV and T ‖b (> 1.5 keV) have been found to have significant effect on the growth rate. Analysis has revealed that it is mainly the T ‖b which inhibits the growth rate (magnitude) and the range of frequency (bandwidth) of the instability mainly in the higher frequency spectrum. The inhibition in the growth rate and bandwidth increases with increase in T ‖b. The FEBs with less E b (giving drift velocity) reduce growth rate more than the beams with larger E b. The inhibition of growth rate increases with the increase in the ratio ω ee indicating that the beams are more effective at higher altitudes.   相似文献

The shift of components of the magnetic hyperfine structure (MHS) of a vibrational-rotational molecular transition in a weak magnetic field is explored. The numerical data are given for the methane transition at λ=3.39 μm [theF 2 (2) component of theP(7) line of thev 3 band]. On the basis of numerical solution of the dispersion equation, we obtain the spectra of weakly damped high-frequency waves in a hot magnetized plasma for the case where the electron cyclotron frequency ωHe is below the plasma frequency ωpe. It is shown that the longitudinal wave propagating at an angle to the magnetic field evolves into the slow extraordinary wave for the refractive index n ≤ 1. For n ≫ 1, the longitudinal-wave frequency increases with the refractive index, and the wave evolves into the wave with anomalous dispersion if the angle θ between the wave vector and the magnetic field is close to 90°. The cycle-averaged ac Stark effect associated with the [ A ]+v=2?[ X ]2Π1/2v=0 two-photon absorption of NO at intensities between 7.7 and 15.2 TW cm-2 has been characterized in real time through a synergic combination of bichromatic laser experiments and quantum-dynamics calculations. Measurements of the fluorescence emitted by the Rydberg [ A ]+v=2 level as a function of time between Stark and probe components of a bichromatic field exhibit a characteristic evolution in temporal peak structure with Stark-field intensity, which is interpreted in terms of a time-dependent Floquet analysis of the laser–matter interaction. The experimental observations are consistent with a dynamic Stark shift of Δεs12)≤0.23 eV of the optical transition at these intensities. Features of the interaction of moving neutral atoms, molecules, and clusters with a superlattice field (for example, the system of linear magnetic and electric domains) are considered. It is shown that the character of the particle motion depends on the ratio of the frequency ω21 of the internal electromagnetic resonance to the bounce frequency Ω s determined by the superlattice period, the velocity of the particle motion, and the possible moments of the particle in the ground d 11 and excited d 22 states. The conditions for regimes of attraction and repulsion of particles by the superlattice are considered. The preconditions for formation of a one-dimensional potential well located far from the superlattice and for stable channeling of neutral and charged particles in this well are also considered. Depending on the ratio of ω21 to Ω s , particle sorting and beam separation occur during interaction of the multicomponent beam consisting of different particles with the superlattice field.  相似文献

The conditions for resonance and signal cutoff are determined from the dispersion relation for the complex refractive index for a plane electromagnetic wave propagating in a gas-discharge plasma when a magnetic field H = H0 + H1ejt is imposed on the plasma. The refractive index and absorption are calculated for circularly polarized waves as functions of the alternating magnetic field with p, b, andv as parameters.
