The influence of source directivity can be significant for solo and chamber music performances, particularly for arena type halls that have improved visual intimacy for the audience. Computer simulation was performed to analyze the possibility of optimizing the acoustical qualities of a 4000-m3 recital hall with a significant portion of seats surrounding the platform when considering source directivity. The effects of surface treatments, length-to-width proportion, seating arrangement and platform location were evaluated. Most acoustical parameters derived from a baritone singer source were categorized as one factor that can be best represented by 2-kHz band early sound strength GE. Regardless of room proportion, front-back 2-kHz band energy difference derived from optimized models can be controlled within 4 dB, a value much smaller than the difference in direct component.  相似文献

This paper investigates the material characteristics of diffusers for acoustical renovation of existing small performing spaces. Consideration is given to acoustical effects on sound fields through the practical cases of two performing halls: the Chamber Hall (450 seats) and the M-Theater (630 seats) in the Sejong Performing Arts Center, Seoul. The Chamber Hall was completely refurbished into a recital hall from its previous shape of a rectangular conference space. The saw-tooth shaped wall diffuser profile in the Chamber Hall was designed using glass-fiber reinforced concrete for mid-frequency sound diffusion. The M-Theater was renovated as a live and intimate space for dramatic performances with a design that included more seats on the upper floors and additional spaces above ceiling reflectors. The vertically-patterned diffuser profile with protruded cubic surfaces in the M-Theater was designed using glass-fiber reinforced gypsum for sound diffusion in the major speech frequency range. Designed diffuser profiles were evaluated for both halls by measurements of scattering and diffusion coefficients of the 1:10 scale model diffusers. The effects of diffusers in both halls were also investigated by covering the lateral walls close to the stages with reflective materials to control diffusive surfaces. As a result, spatial uniformity increased with diffusive wall profiles in both halls.  相似文献

The parameter, "Strength of Sound G" is closely related to loudness. Its magnitude is dependent, inversely, on the total sound absorption in a room. By comparison, the reverberation time (RT) is both inversely related to the total sound absorption in a hall and directly related to its cubic volume. Hence, G and RT in combination are vital in planning the acoustics of a concert hall. A newly proposed "Bass Index" is related to the loudness of the bass sound and equals the value of G at 125 Hz in decibels minus its value at mid-frequencies. Listener envelopment (LEV) is shown for most halls to be directly related to the mid-frequency value of G. The broadening of sound, i.e., apparent source width (ASW) is given by degree of source broadening (DSB) which is determined from the combined effect of early lateral reflections as measured by binaural quality index (BQI) and strength G. The optimum values and limits of these parameters are discussed.  相似文献

Ag–Ni nanoparticles were prepared with a chemical reduction method in the presence of polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) used as a stabilizing agent. During the synthesis of Ag–Ni nanoparticles, silver nitrate was used as the Ag+ source while nickel sulfate hexahydrate was used as Ni2+ source. Mixed solutions of Ag+ source and Ni2+ source were used as the precursors and sodium borohydride was used as the reducing agent. Five ratios of Ag+/Ni2+ (9:1, 3:1, 1:1, 1:3, and 1:9) suspensions were prepared in the corresponding precursors. Ag–Ni alloy nanoparticles were obtained with this method at room temperature. Scanning electronic microscope (SEM), energy dispersive spectrum (EDS), high resolution transmission electron microscope (HRTEM) were used to characterize the morphology, composition and crystal structure of the nanoparticles. The crystal structure was also investigated with X-ray diffraction (XRD). In all five Ag/Ni ratios, two kinds of particle structures were observed that are single crystal structure and five-fold twinned structure respectively. Free energy of nanoparticles with different crystal structures were calculated at each Ag/Ni ratio. Calculated results revealed that, with identical volume, free energy of single crystal particle is lower than multi-twinned particle and the difference becomes smaller with the increase of particle size; increase of Ni content will lead the increase of free energy for both structures. Formation of different crystal structures are decided by the structure of the original nuclei at the very early stage of the reduction process.  相似文献

The room acoustical parameters reverberation time, RT; early decay time, EDT; clarity, C80; time gravity, Tg; bass ratio, BR; strength, G; initial time delay gap, ITDG; interaural cross-correlation coefficient, IACC(E), the where binaural quality index BQI equals [1-IACC(E3)]; and stage support, ST1 were measured in 18 major chamber-music halls in Austria, Germany, the Netherlands, Czech Republic, Switzerland, and Japan, employing procedures in accordance with ISO 3382 (1997). In combination with the architectural data, the intrinsic objective parameters for the acoustics of chamber-music halls and their variation range were examined. The results of these studies reveal four pertinent orthogonal parameters: RT, G, ITDG, BQI. General design guidelines for a chamber-music hall are presented.  相似文献

Stage acoustics is an important characteristic for concert halls, both for the acoustic quality on stage and for the audience. However, relatively little research has been conducted into the question. This study was based on the investigation of an actual concert hall stage, that of the Seoul Arts Center Concert Hall in Korea. The stage acoustics was evaluated in the actual hall, and with two models: a 1:25 scale model and a computer model. The study was based on the stage support parameter ST1 proposed by Gade as a measure of support for individual performers [Acustica 65, 193-203 (1989)]. The variation of support was measured on the empty stage of the actual hall and in the two models. The effect of musicians on stage, the effect of moving the orchestra, the effect of ceiling height and of stage-wall profile were also investigated. Conclusions are drawn both relating to the Seoul Concert Hall stage and stages in general.  相似文献

Strong, exciting, and engaging sound is perceived in the best concert halls. Here, it is shown that wideband early reflections that preserve the temporal envelope of sound contribute to the clear and open acoustics with strong bass. Such reflections are fused with the direct sound due to the precedence effect. In contrast, reflections that distort the temporal envelope render the sound weak and muddy because they partially break down the precedence. The presented findings are based on the earlier psychoacoustics research, and confirmed by a perceptual evaluation with six simulated concert halls that have same monaural room acoustical parameter values according to ISO3382-1.  相似文献

The Christchurch Town Hall (2650 seats) is the major hall in a complex which includes a 986 seat theatre. It was opened on 30 September 1972 and was designed primarily as a choral symphony hall. Reverberation time (125 Hz to 2 kHz) in excess of 2·2 seconds with the hall full is provided by a volume of 20 500 m3 and reflective surfaces. The basic design aim, provision of relatively strong early lateral reflections, is achieved by large interior oblique reflectors which hang free from the boundaries of the reverberant volume. The resulting early lateral energy and long R.T. gives the hall a combination of reverberance, envelopment and clarity. The paper gives an account of design aims and studies including a ray tracing computer program with an interactive graphics output. Measurements of T60, T15 and integrated early energy have been carried out in the hall. Echograms and other measured data are presented. Clarity has been measured by a speech intelligibility test with the Hall empty except for 40 participants. With T60 at 500 Hz 2·7 seconds, the intelligibility was better than the Peutz criterion for public address systems.  相似文献

Sound strength and reverberation time measurements have been carried out in six small concert halls in Cambridge, UK. The sound strength G is a measure of the physical sound level in a concert hall and is closely related to the subjective sensation of loudness. It compares integrated impulse responses at a point in the measured room with that measured at ten metres distance in the free field. The aim of the measurements is to investigate the acoustic characteristics of the halls concerning sound strength and reverberation time. Furthermore the effect of the variable acoustics in the halls on these parameters is discussed in this paper. Especially for bigger ensembles it is often desirable to reduce the sound level in a small concert hall. The measurement results show that for a fixed hall volume, this can primarily be achieved by decreasing the reverberation time in the hall. However, with regard to the sound quality of a hall and the recommended reverberation times for chamber music, reverberation time cannot be reduced by an arbitrary extent. Therefore reverberation time and strength have to be balanced very carefully in order to obtain sufficient reverberation whilst at the same time avoiding excessive loudness. Finally the measured strength levels are compared to values derived from traditional and revised theory [Barron M, Lee L-J. Energy relations in concert auditoriums. J Acoust Soc Am 1988;84(2):618-28] on strength calculations in order to assess the accuracy of the theory for small chamber music halls. Possible reasons for the low measured strength levels observed are discussed with reference to related design features and objective acoustic parameters.  相似文献
