The effect of ultrasound on the leaching process, in which Geniposide is leached from the Gardenia fruit by deionized water at 20 degrees C, was investigated. The phase equilibrium and the dynamics were measured at static, stirring, and ultrasonically assisted conditions, respectively. The experimental results show that the extraction yield of Geniposide with ultrasound at 0.1533 W cm(-2), is increased by 16.5%, in comparison with that without ultrasound when the ratio of the solvent volume to the fruit weight is 40 ml/g. A model for mass transfer, based on the intraparticle diffusion and the external mass transfer, was developed. And the dynamic curves calculated by the model are in a good agreement with the experimental data. The external mass transfer coefficient k(f)/R and intraparticle diffusion coefficient D(e)/R2 were obtained by fitting of the experiment data. The external mass transfer coefficient with ultrasound at 0.1533 W cm(-2) is 1.63 times higher than that in static process, and the intraparticle diffusion coefficient with ultrasound at 0.1533 W cm(-2) is 3.25 times higher than that in static process.  相似文献

This work describes the results of investigations carried out to examine the adsorption kinetics of 4-chlorophenol (4-CP) from aqueous solution containing tert-butyl alcohol (10%, v/v) onto granular activated carbon (GAC) in the presence of ultrasound of different high frequencies (516, 800 and 1660 kHz) and acoustic powers (15.2, 21.5, 31.1 and 38.3 W). The main objective of this study is to describe the mechanism of ultrasound-assisted adsorption rather than the enhancement of adsorption capacity. Sonochemical degradation of 4-CP was studied in the absence and presence of tert-butyl alcohol. The sonolysis of 4-CP is effectively inhibited by the addition of tert-butyl alcohol (10%, v/v) and very little 4-CP degradation occurs, indicating that little or no pyrolysis of the compound occurs. Without addition of tert-butyl alcohol, after 300 min and at 1660 kHz, the removal of 4-CP in the presence of ultrasound for an acoustic power of 38.3 W was nearly total (99%), but in the conventional method only 60% was eliminated. In this case, the removal of 4-CP by GAC in the ultrasound-assisted technique is due to both adsorption and ultrasonic degradation, but the removal by simple stirring is only due to adsorption, which makes a direct comparison unacceptable. In order to distinguish sonochemical degradation and adsorption of 4-CP onto GAC and to make an exact and practical comparison of the adsorption in the absence and presence of ultrasound, kinetic adsorption experiments were conducted using aqueous solution containing 10% (v/v) tert-butyl alcohol. The obtained results show that both adsorption rate and adsorbed amount were significantly enhanced and improved in the presence of ultrasound for all the studied frequencies and powers. The enhancement of adsorption is favored by increasing ultrasonic power. Adsorption kinetic data were modeled using the liquid-film mass transfer equation and intraparticle diffusion model. The values of the intraparticle diffusion coefficient obtained in the presence of ultrasound are greater than that obtained in the absence of ultrasound. In the initial period of adsorption, where external mass transfer is assumed to predominate, liquid-film mass transfer coefficients significantly increased by the assistance of ultrasound. These results indicate that ultrasound enhances the mass transport in the pores as well as across the boundary layer. This effect increased with increasing ultrasonic power for the three studied frequencies. The average order for the studied ultrasonic waves according to the initial adsorption rate, the intraparticle diffusion coefficient and the liquid-film mass transfer coefficient is 516 kHz>800 kHz>1660 kHz.  相似文献

The effects of various factors, including the extraction time, temperature, solvent/material ratio, the ultrasonic intensity and duty cycle of ultrasonic irradiation on the extraction yield of all-trans-lycopene from red grapefruit by ultrasound-assisted extraction (UAE) were investigated. In comparison with conventional solvent extraction (CSE), UAE showed a pronounced greater extraction yield and reduced extraction time effectively with a peak value at 30 min. The extraction yield was significantly influenced by temperature and the optimum condition was 30 °C. The extraction yield increased with increasing of solvent/material ratio until equilibrium was arrived at the optimal ratio of 3:1 (mL/g). The extraction yield increased first and then decreased with an increase in ultrasonic intensity. The extraction yield of UAE increased with the increase of duty cycle, whereas pulsed ultrasound with proper intervals was more efficient than continuous ultrasonication. The degradation via isomerisation of all-trans-lycopene under ultrasonic treatment was also observed with the formation of 9,13′-di-cis-, 9,13-di-cis-, 15-cis-, 13-cis- and 9-cis-lycopene isomers which were tentatively identified by HPLC-PAD.  相似文献

The effects of ultrasound on both electrolytic and electroless nickel depositions were investigated by polarization and a.c. impedance methods. The ultrasound accelerated the charge transfer process at the metal-electrolyte interface in the electrodeposition and the mass transport process in the electroless deposition. In the electrodeposition with Watts bath, the crystal orientations of deposited film largely changed in the presence of ultrasound. The imposition of ultrasound gave rise to decreasing cathodic overpotential and increasing exchange current density, and these effects depended upon the ultrasonic frequency. The values of exchange current density estimated from a.c. impedance were dependent upon the measured electrode potentials. In the electroless deposition with citrate bath, the deposition rates increased in the presence of ultrasound. There were two kinds of Ni(2+)-citrate complex which were reduced at -0.7 V and -1.1 V. The electroless deposition process was controlled by the Ni(2+)-citrate complex that was reduced at -0.7 V. This reduction rate was diffusion controlled and largely increased in the presence of ultrasound. The effects of ultrasonic frequency on both electrodeposition and electroless deposition increased in order of no irradiation < 100 kHz < 28 kHz < or = 45 kHz.  相似文献

Ultrasound-assisted extraction (UAE) of commercially important natural product camptothecin (CPT) from Nothapodytes nimmoniana plant has been investigated. The influences of process factors such as electric acoustic intensity, solid to liquid ratio, duty cycle, temperature and particle size on the maximum extraction yield and kinetic mechanisms of the entire extraction process have been investigated. The kinetics results showed that increasing the intensity, duty cycle, solid to liquid ratio and decreasing the particle size lead to substantial increase in extraction yields compared to classical stirring extraction. Different kinetic models were applied to fit the experimental data. The second order rate model appears to be the best. The extraction rate constant, initial extraction rate and the equilibrium concentration for all experimental conditions have been calculated. SEM analysis of spent plant material clearly showed hollow openings on cell structure, which could be directly correlated to explosive disruption by the action of ultrasound waves. Overall 1.7-fold increase in extraction yields of CPT (0.32% w/w) and decrease in time from 6 h to 18 min was observed over the stirring method.  相似文献

The effect of 48-kHz ultrasound on the adsorption and desorption of phenol from aqueous solutions onto coconut shell-based granular activated carbons was studied at 25 degrees C. Experiments were performed at different carbon particle sizes (1.15, 2.5, 4.0 mm), initial phenol concentrations (1.06-10.6 mol/m3), and ultrasonic powers (46-133 W). Regardless of the absence and presence of ultrasound, the adsorption isotherms were well obeyed by the Langmuir equation. When ultrasound was applied in the whole adsorption process, the adsorption capacity decreased but the Langmuir constant increased with increasing ultrasonic power. According to the analysis of kinetic data by the Elovich equation, it was shown that the initial rate of adsorption was enhanced after sonication and the number of sites available for adsorption was reduced. The effect of ultrasonic intensity on the initial rate and final amount of desorption of phenol from the loaded carbons using 0.1 mol/dm3 of NaOH were also evaluated and compared.

The dead needles of Aleppo pine (Pinus halepensis) were tested as a possible sorbent for the removal of malachite green from aqueous solutions in the absence and presence of ultrasound. Batch process was employed for sorption kinetic and equilibrium studies. Sorption experiments indicated that the sorption capacity was dependent of operating variables. Both the rate and the amount of malachite green sorption are markedly increased in the presence of the ultrasonic field. The dye removal with the assistance of ultrasound was enhanced with the increase of sorbate initial concentration and temperature, and with the decrease of sorbent dosage and ionic strength. The combination of stirring and ultrasound leads to an improvement of the removal of dye. The sorption kinetics was controlled by the intraparticle diffusion. The intraparticle diffusion coefficient increased 1.7 times in the presence of ultrasound and up to 3.6 times in the combined process. The sorption capacity, estimated according to the Freundlich model, indicates that ultrasound enhanced the sorption properties of the sorbent. The effect of ultrasound on the improvement of dye sorption is due to a variety of physical and mechanical effects as well as to thermal properties. The combination of ultrasound and stirring for the sorption process was shown to be of interest for the treatment of wastewaters contaminated with malachite green.  相似文献

The aim of this work is the evaluation of the effects of ultrasound on p-chlorophenol adsorption-desorption on granular activated carbon. Adsorption equilibrium experiments and batch kinetics studies were carried out in the presence and the absence of ultrasound at 21 kHz. Results indicate that the adsorption of p-chlorophenol determined in the presence of ultrasound is lower than the adsorption observed in the absence of ultrasound. Desorption of p-chlorophenol from activated carbon with and without the application of ultrasound was studied. The desorption rates were favoured by increased ultrasound intensity. This rise is more noticeable as temperature increases. The addition of ethanol or NaOH to the system causes an enhancement of the amount of p-chlorophenol desorbed, especially in the presence of ultrasound. A synergetic enhancement of the desorption rate was observed when ultrasonic irradiation was coupled with ethanol chemical regeneration.  相似文献

This paper explores the mass transfer mechanism of microvias electroforming under ultrasonic agitation by numerical simulations and electrochemical experiments. Firstly, the velocity distribution of electroforming solution inside the microvias under ultrasound treatment is simulated by COMSOL Multiphysics software. The ultrasonic frequency is that of 120 kHz. The ultrasonic powers are 100 W, 200 W, 300 W and 400 W, respectively. The simulation results indicate that the mean liquid velocity inside the microvias increases with the increasing of acoustic power. In addition, under a certain ultrasonic power, the mean liquid velocity will decrease with increasing the distance between microvias and transducer, the aspect ratio of microvias and the distance between cathode and central position. Secondly, electrochemical experiments are presented to investigate the effect of ultrasonic agitation on the electrode kinetics of microvias electroforming. It is found that ultrasonic treatment decreases the thickness of diffusion layer, increases the limiting diffusion current densities and further enhances the mass transfer of microvias electroforming. Compared with the silent condition, the diffusion layer thicknesses with the acoustic power of 100 W, 200 W, 300 W, 400 W are decreased by 50.0%, 64.1%, 69.3% and 74.5%, respectively. Finally, according to the results above, the 200 × 200 metal micro-column array structures are fabricated by ultrasonic electroforming under the condition of 120 kHz and 200 W. The metal micro-column is 250 μm high and has a diameter of 80 μm. The results show that ultrasonic electroforming can enhance the mass transfer of microvias electroforming, and further solve the problem of porous structure in electroforming layer. This work contributes to expanding the application of ultrasonic agitation in the microvias electroforming.  相似文献

This work described the purification and enrichment of flavonoids from baobab (Adansonia digitata) fruit pulp (BFP) by ultrasound-assisted adsorption/desorption procedure using macroporous resins. Four resins were tested and HPD-500 polar resin exhibited the best adsorption/desorption properties. Based on preliminary experiments and literature reports, the effects of various ultrasonic conditions including high power short time (HPST, 540 W for 5 min), medium power medium time (MPMT, 270 W for 15 min) and low power long time (LPLT, 45 W for 30 min) as well as different temperatures (T = 25–45 °C) on the adsorption of Total Flavonoids Content (TFC) were investigated in comparison with orbital shaking/no sonication (NS). Also, the effect of ultrasound on the desorption capacity and recovery of TFC was determined at different concentrations of ethanol (30–100%). Remarkably, ultrasonic treatment significantly increased the adsorption/desorption capacity and recovery and shortened the equilibrium time. The pseudo-second-order kinetic and Freundlich isotherm models better delineated the adsorption process under ultrasound. Moreover, the adsorption process was both spontaneous and thermodynamically favourable with physical adsorption and multilinear intraparticle diffusion being the predominant mechanisms of the whole process. HPST treatment at 25 °C with 80% ethanol as the desorption solvent most noticeably enhanced the adsorption/desorption of flavonoids and contributed to the highest recovery of TFC, Total Phenolic Content (TPC), and antioxidant capacity in addition to a 5–8-fold reduction in total sugar and acid contents when compared with NS treatment. Moreover, HPLC analysis revealed that the content of nine out of thirteen phenolic compounds from the HPST treatment was the highest, and the individual flavonoids content increased by 2–3-fold compared with the other treatments. Our analyses suggested that ultrasound can be employed as a practical approach to intensify the adsorption and desorption of functional compounds in BFP.  相似文献

Cellulose microparticles from ginkgo seed shells were treated by ultrasonic treatments within the selected output powders (150–600 W) and durations (10–60 min) to produce cellulose nanoparticles. The main aim of this study was to investigate effects of ultrasonic conditions on the interfacial property and emulsifying property of those cellulose nanoparticles. Compared to ultrasonic output powers, ultrasonic durations showed the greater influence on morphology and physical properties of cellulose nanoparticles. Atomic force microscopy revealed that noodle-like cellulose particles with 1100 nm in length gradually became the short rod-like nanoparticles with 300 nm in length with increasing of ultrasonic duration from 10 min to 60 min. Moreover, results of contact angles indicated that ultrasound could significantly improve hydrophobicity of cellulose nanoparticles. The interfacial shear rheology showed that although all cellulose nanoparticles exhibited the similar interface adsorption behavior which showed the initial lag-phase of adsorption, followed by the interface saturation, the time of this initial lag-phase was affected by ultrasonic conditions. The increase of ultrasonic duration and ultrasonic power could shorten the time of this initial lag-phase, suggesting the resulting cellulose nanoparticles easier adsorption at the O/W interface. It was probably attributed to its small size and high hydrophobicity induced by intense ultrasonic treatments. Meanwhile, the cellulose nanoparticles with small size and higher hydrophobicity exhibited the better emulsifying ability to stabilize oil-in-water emulsions due to the formation of the viscoelastic interfacial film. This study improved understanding about changes in interfacial and emulsifying properties of cellulose nanoparticles caused by ultrasonic treatments.  相似文献

The way in which a cavitation zone develops in a focused pulsed ultrasound field is studied in this work. Sonoluminescence (SL), total hydrophone output and cavitation noise spectra have been recorded across a gradual, smooth increase in applied voltage. It is shown that the cavitation zone passes through a number of stages of evolution, according to increasing ultrasound intensity, decreasing pulse period and increasing ultrasound pulse duration. Sonoluminescence is absent in the first phase and the hydrophone output spectra consists of a main line with two or three harmonics whose intensity is much lower than that of the main (fundamental) line. The second stage sees the onset of SL whose intensity increases smoothly and is accompanied by the appearance of higher harmonics and subharmonics in the cavitation noise spectra. In some cases, the wide-band (WBN) component can be seen in noise spectra during the final part of the second stage. In the third stage, SL intensity increases significantly and often quite sharply, while WBN intensity increases in the same manner. This is accompanied by a synchronous increase in the absorption of ultrasound by the cavitation zone, which is manifested in a sharp decrease in the hydrophone output. In the fourth stage, both SL and WBN intensities tend to decrease despite the increased voltage applied to the transducer. Furthermore, the fundamental line tends to decrease in strength as well, despite the increasing ultrasound intensity. The obtained results clearly identify the different stages of cavitation zone development using cavitation noise spectra analyses. We then hypothesize that three of the above stages may be responsible for three known types of ultrasound action on biological cells: damping viability, reversible cell damage (sonoporation) and irreversible damage/cytotoxicity.  相似文献

High intensity ultrasonic vibrations were used for destabilizing the static foam structure. Ultrasonic horn as a source of ultrasonic vibration was used for the destruction of the foam. The effect of the ratio of the horn to the column diameter on the drainage and collapse rate of foam has been analyzed. Further, an empirical correlation for the initial foam collapse rate in the presence of ultrasonic horn has been developed in terms of the initial liquid hold-up, surface tension of the surfactant solution and the ratio of horn diameter to the column diameter. Efficiency of the ultrasonic horn is related to the position of the tip of the horn. Periodic supply of ultrasonic vibrations was found to be a more viable option than the continuous supply in terms of saving in energy and operating cost for defoaming using ultrasound.  相似文献

In this study combined effect of ultrasound-induced acoustic cavitation and microbubbles during meat brining on pork loin (Longissimus dorsi) was evaluated. Cylindrical shape (diameter 15 mm, height 80 mm) pork loin samples were cut and immersed in 200 g L-1 NaCl brine and treated with the following brining methods for 180 min: static brining (SB), ultrasound assisted brining (US) and ultrasound combined with microbubbles in brine (USMB). Ultrasound was generated with 20 kHz frequency, 5,09 W/cm2 maximum intensity and 100 W maximum power. Microbubbles in brine were produced by a gas–liquid mixing pump. Effect of ultrasound and microbbubles on NaCl content and diffusion in pork loin, mass balance, water binding capacity (WBC), protein denaturation and meat tissue microstructure were evaluated. The US and USMB brinings enhanced the NaCl diffusion into meat compared to meat brined under static conditions. The constant diffusion coefficient (D) model precisely described the NaCl diffusion kinetics during brinings. The ultrasound and microbbubles resulted in microscopic pores on the surface of myofibers. Decreasing WBC was observed for all brining methods. Myosin was not detectable in any of the brining methods. Denaturation temperature of actin showed a decreasing tendency with increasing brining time independently the brining methods.  相似文献

In high intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) applications, tissue may be thermally necrosed by heating, emulsified by cavitation, or, as was recently discovered, emulsified using repetitive millisecond boiling caused by shock wave heating. Here, this last approach was further investigated. Experiments were performed in transparent gels and ex vivo bovine heart tissue using 1, 2, and 3 MHz focused transducers and different pulsing schemes in which the pressure, duty factor, and pulse duration were varied. A previously developed derating procedure to determine in situ shock amplitudes and the time-to-boil was refined. Treatments were monitored using B-mode ultrasound. Both inertial cavitation and boiling were observed during exposures, but emulsification occurred only when shocks and boiling were present. Emulsified lesions without thermal denaturation were produced with shock amplitudes sufficient to induce boiling in less than 20 ms, duty factors of less than 0.02, and pulse lengths shorter than 30 ms. Higher duty factors or longer pulses produced varying degrees of thermal denaturation combined with mechanical emulsification. Larger lesions were obtained using lower ultrasound frequencies. The results show that shock wave heating and millisecond boiling is an effective and reliable way to emulsify tissue while monitoring the treatment with ultrasound.  相似文献

To understand the underlying concepts required for the determination of thresholds for free radical generation, effects of gas dissolution in and microbubble addition to sonicated solutions were investigated. Four solutions with different gaseous conditions, air-saturated and degassed solutions with and without microbubbles of 20 μm in diameter with shells, were studied in the presence of an air–liquid interface. These test solutions were exposed to 1 MHz ultrasound of 0.06 MPap-p at various pulse durations (PDs) from 0.1 to 5 ms and pulse repetition frequencies from 0.1 to 2 kHz. Generation of free radicals was evaluated using the electron spin resonance (ESR) spin trapping method and starch–iodine method. Thresholds of duty ratio (DR) corresponding to temporal average intensity of ultrasound for free radical generation were significantly greater in degassed solutions than in air-saturated solutions. Microbubbles had no significant effects in air-saturated solutions but caused a slight decrease in the threshold in degassed solutions. In all of these results, the DR of a threshold curve against pulse repetition period (PRP) was not constant but linearly decreased with it, suggesting that a balance between bubble growth and shrinkage during the ON and OFF times of burst ultrasound is the primary parameter for the interpretation of thresholds. The effect of an air–liquid interface of the solution was also examined, and it was revealed that gas transport from the air is a predominant factor determining the amount of free radicals.  相似文献

The ultrasound assisted three phase partitioning (UATPP) is a novel bioseparation method for separation and purification of biomolecules. In the present work, UATPP was investigated for the first time for purification of serratiopeptidase from Serratia marcescens NRRL B 23112. Effect of various process parameters such as ammonium sulphate saturation, t-butanol to crude extract ratio, pH, ultrasonic frequency, ultrasonic intensity, duty cycle and irradiation time were evaluated and optimized. The optimized conditions were found to be as follows: ammonium sulphate saturation 30% (w/v), pH 7.0, t-butanol to crude ratio 1:1 (v/v), ultrasound frequency 25 kHz, ultrasound intensity 0.05 W/cm2, duty cycle 20% and irradiation time 5 min. The maximum purity and recovery obtained from UATPP was 9.4-fold and 96% respectively as compared to the three phase partitioning (TPP) (4.2-fold and 83%). Also the process time for UATPP was significantly reduced to 5 min from 1 h as compared to TPP. The results indicate that, UATPP is an efficient technique for the purification of serratiopeptidase with maximum purity, recovery and reduced processing time.  相似文献

According to the magneto-optic (MO) perturbation theory, the coupled-mode equations for guided optical waves (GOWs) with microwave magneto-static waves (MSWs) in MO film waveguides are presented, which cannot only be used to analyze the MO modulation induced by MSW pulses, but also explain the optical pulse compression caused by chirped MSWs. The rectangular pulse modulation of continuous guided optical waves by magnetostatic forward volume waves (MSFVWs) excited under normal bias magnetic field is theoretically studied in detail. It is shown that: (1) the diffracted light pulse approximates to an isosceles trapezoid, which is in agreement with the experimental results, and the duration time and the flat-top response time are equal to the sum and difference between the width and transit time of the rectangular MSFVW pulse, respectively; (2) utilizing a small duty factor of MSFVW pulse helps to improve the modulating data rate, which is in inverse proportion to the transit time, and the relative peak intensity of the diffracted light pulse is less than the corresponding Bragg diffraction efficiency when the MSW duty factor is less than 0.5.
