How aberrations of pump wave affect second harmonic generation is studied. The solution is applied to type I second harmonic generation in KDP crystal. This paper presents an investigation of self‐focusing of a Cosh‐Gaussian (ChG) laser beam and its effect on second harmonic generation in collisionless plasma. In the presence of ChG laser beam the carriers get redistributed from high field region to low field region on account of ponderomotive force as a result of which a transverse density gradient is produced in the plasma which in turn generates an electron‐plasma wave at pump frequency. Generated plasma wave interacts with the incident laser beam and hence generates its second harmonics. Moment theory has been used to derive differential equation governing the evolution of spot size of ChG laser beam propagating through collisionless plasma. The differential equation so obtained has been solved numerically. The effect of decentered parameter, intensity of ChG laser beam and density of plasma on self‐focusing of the laser beam and second harmonic yield has been investigated. We investigate the quantum statistics of the fields produced in second harmonic generation when photon number squeezed light ia used as input. It is found that the squeezed properties of the pump beam can be transferred to a certain extent to the second harmonic beam. The normalized photon fluctuations, or Fano factors, of the fundamental and second harmonic output fields are derived for various values of the interaction parameters.  相似文献

We demonstrate controlled high-order harmonic generation in gas using high-energy femtosecond pulses (50 fs-50 mJ on target) by performing spatial shaping of the terrawatt fundamental laser beam. We have developed a two optical paths mirror that can withstand high power and shape the pump beam into a quasi-flat-top profile (super Gaussian) near focus. We observe clear signatures of the spatial shaping on the harmonic beam in terms of profile, divergence, level of signal, and spectrum. The harmonic generation in neon with a quasi-flat-top beam results in a broadband extreme UV beam with extremely low divergence (~340 μrad).  相似文献

The force due to the transverse magnetic field of a laser beam drives an electron in the direction of laser propagation, thereby impeding the recollision mechanism for high-order harmonic generation. The longitudinal electric field component of a tightly focused Gaussian beam can sufficiently counteract the magnetic force to enhance the harmonic yield substantially. For tight focusing and a laser intensity of 10(18) W/cm2, it can raise the harmonic yield by several orders of magnitude.  相似文献

The purpose of this study is to explore the second harmonic generation (SHG) of a high power Cosh-Gaussian beam in cold collisionless plasma. The ponderomotive force causes carrier redistribution from high field to low field region in presence of a Cosh-Gaussian beam thereby producing density gradients in the transverse direction. The density gradients so produced the results in electron plasma wave (EPW) generation at the frequency of the input beam. The EPW interacts with the input beam resulting in the production of 2nd harmonics. WKB and paraxial approximations are employed for obtaining the 2nd order differential equation describing the behavior of the beam's spot size against normalized distance. The impact of well-established laser-plasma parameters on the behavior of the beam's spot size and SHG yield are also analyzed. The focusing behavior of the beam and SHG yield is enhanced with an increase in the density of plasma, the radius of the beam and the decentred parameter, and with a decrease in the intensity of the beam. The results of the current problem are really helpful for complete information of laser-plasma interaction physics.  相似文献

 采用瞬态受激旋转拉曼散射(SRRS)和空间相位扰动模型,定量分析了泵浦光强度和脉冲宽度对基频光在空气长程传输过程中产生的SRRS效应的阈值距离和转换效率的影响,讨论了泵浦光空间相位畸变对长程传输后的基频光光束质量的影响。研究结果表明:SRRS效应的阈值距离随着泵浦光强度和脉宽的增大而变短;空间相位畸变对斯托克斯光和泵浦光的光强分布存在一定影响,对斯托克斯光相位分布的影响比对泵浦光相位的影响大;SRRS效应的存在将导致基频光光束质量明显变差,对谐波转换效率产生明显影响。  相似文献

We report on the first experimental observation of 2D multicolored transverse arrays in a quadratic nonlinear medium under the pump of two crossly overlapped femtosecond beams. The 2D reproducible patterns are caused by cascaded noncollinear quadratic nonlinear couplings between the input pulses and quadratic spatial solitons originated from spatial breakup of one of the input beams with spatial ellipticity. A seed supercontinuum pulse is then diffracted and amplified with phase preservation, resulting in the formation of up-converted multicolor 2D transverse arrays. By seeding with weak second harmonic pulses, the 2D multicolored transverse patterns are suppressed due to weak beam control of the induced quadratic spatial solitons.  相似文献

We discuss the use of intracavity type-II second harmonic generation for all-optical processing of images. Injecting an image in a pump beam linearly polarized and a homogeneous field in the orthogonally polarized pump, it is possible to magnify the contrast and to recognize the contour of any part of the image whose intensity is above a tunable reference level. This can be done using ideal planar cavities where all the fields are resonant as well as in the more realistic situation where only the fundamental fields are resonant and using cavities with spherical mirrors. The phase-matching angle and pump energy dependence of transverse beam profiles on traveling-wave parametric generation in KTiOPO4 crystals are numerically calculated and compared with the previously measured results. It is found that the idler beam profile stretches in its walk-off direction and the signal beam profile stretches in the opposite direction as the idler walk-off angle becomes large due to the walk-off and back-conversion effects in the propagation process. It is also found that, even if walk-off does not exist, the transverse beam profile has a manifold ring shape as the pump energy is increased due to repeated conversion and back-conversion.  相似文献

This paper presents an investigation of self-focusing of elliptical laser beam in collisionless plasma and its effect on stimulated Brillouin scattering. The pump beam interacts with a pre-excited ion-acoustic wave leading to Brillouin back-scattered process. The transverse intensity gradient of a pump beam generates a ponderomotive force, which modifies the background plasma density profile in a direction transverse to pump beam axis. This modification in density effects the incident laser beam, ion-acoustic wave and back-scattered beam. Non-linear differential equations for the beam width parameters of pump laser beam, ion-acoustic wave and back-scattered beam are set up and solved numerically. It is observed from the analysis that the focusing of waves enhances the SBS back-reflectivity.  相似文献

We report on an injection-seeded Ti:sapphire laser pumped by the second harmonic of a Nd:YAG laser. Due to an excellent spatial beam profile and narrow linewidth near the Fourier transform limit we are able to achieve high conversion efficiencies and stable output power in harmonic generation as well as in sum and difference frequency mixing with the pump pulse. The laser system can potentially cover a spectral range from 190 to over 6000 nm.  相似文献

Influence of transverse effects on the propagation of light beams in gradient glass fiber and on the pulsed mode of the second harmonic generation is investigated. Within the approaches under consideration the equations for the pulse or beam field envelopes are reduced to a system of hydrodynamictype equations for amplitudes and eikonals. Influence of transverse and longitudinal phase matching on the spectral and intensity properties of third harmonic generation induced by the Bessel pump beams has been investigated both theoretically and experimentally. Transverse phase matching, revealing itself as a ring pattern in the third harmonic intensity angular spectrum was demonstrated in both the normally and anomalously dispersive media. We propose a theoretical model for the generation of electromagnetic waves in the terahertz (THz) frequency range by the optical rectification of a Gaussian laser pulse in a plasma with an applied static electric field transverse to the direction of propagation. A Gaussian laser pulse can exert a transverse component of the quasi‐static ponderomotive force on the electrons at a frequency in the THz range by a suitable choice of the laser pulse width. This nonlinear force is responsible for the density oscillation. The coupling of this oscillation with the drift velocity acquired by electrons due to the applied static electric field leads to the generation of a nonlinear current density. A spatial Gaussian intensity profile of the laser beam enhances the generated THz yield by many folds as compared to a uniform spatial intensity profile.  相似文献

We develop a technique for two-dimensional arbitrary wavefront shaping in quadratic nonlinear crystals by using binary nonlinear computer generated holograms. The method is based on transverse illumination of a binary modulated nonlinear photonic crystal, where the phase matching is partially satisfied through the nonlinear Raman-Nath process. We demonstrate the method experimentally showing a conversion of a fundamental Gaussian beam pump light into three Hermite-Gaussian and three Laguerre-Gaussian beams in the second harmonic. Two-dimensional binary nonlinear computer generated holograms open wide possibilities in the field of nonlinear beam shaping and mode conversion.  相似文献

This paper presents a theoretical study of second-harmonic generation (SHG) by a focused pump beam in the interior of an isotropic medium, experimentally observed earlier. It shows that the spatial dispersion of the quadratic optical response of the substance can be responsible for this nonlinear process even when a macroscopic inversion center is present in the medium. It is established that this effect, which is impossible in the plane-wave approximation, also does not occur when a Gaussian pump beam with uniform distribution of the polarization state of the wave field over the cross section is used, but that the presence in the pump beam of higher transverse modes with polarization different from the fundamental mode can cause an SHG signal to appear. The conditions for a wave to appear at the doubled frequency are found, analytical dependences for its electric field and total power on the propagation coordinate, the degree of focusing, and the other parameters of the problem are obtained, and the requirements on the optimum experimental geometry are formulated. The dependence of the signal-beam power on the wavevector detuning is studied, and it is shown that interference effects can cause the wave at the second harmonic to disappear when a normal dispersion law is obeyed in the region between the fundamental and doubled frequencies. Experimental and theoretical results on second harmonic generation with fundamental beams containing both a vortex and an edge phase dislocations are reported. The 3D trajectories in the fundamental and second harmonic beams are calculated for different distances between the dislocations in the input beam. It is shown that each phase dislocation in the second harmonic beam appears as a result of the joint actions of all phase dislocations in the fundamental beam.  相似文献
