In economically developing countries such as Brazil, India and China, rising levels of noise pollution are associated with the accelerated growth of cities and the increasing circulation of automotive vehicles. This paper presents the results of an acoustic evaluation conducted in areas adjacent to federal highway BR-116, part of which lies within the urban limits of the city of Curitiba in southern Brazil. In situ measurements were taken of the noise levels, from which noise maps were drawn in different stages of the implementation of the road restructuring project called the Green Line. After calibration, a computational model was used to evaluate an operational scenario of the highway in the future. The results of the mappings were compared with reference noise emission values established by municipal legislation. The maps revealed the existence of noise pollution in the urban stretch of the federal highway in all the scenarios [LAeq > 65 dB(A)]. Efforts to control environmental noise in cities are aided by computational models for urban planning. These models are extremely helpful for environmental management and decision-making by public authorities for solutions to potential environmental risks, as is the case of urban noise.  相似文献

Urban road traffic noise pollution has always been identified as a severe problem that affects urban populants. In developing nation, road traffic noise pollution depends on the composition of heterogeneous traffic composition. These traffic compositions contain vehicles, which have different sizes, speeds variations, a different dimension of vehicles. Environmental noise measurements have been carried out during day-time and night-time in different locations of tier-II city of India. The noise levels have been continuously measured over 24 h periods using kimo DB 300 class-2 noise level meter. The data contained in this research paper represent 768 measurement hours. All the information has been used to investigate the time patterns of the noise levels under a wide range of different conditions and to study the relationships between noise levels and traffic in urban areas. Maximum LAeq was observed 73.3 dB(A) at B14 location and the minimum was recorded 65.7 dB(A) at C3 location, which was greater than the central pollution control board (CPCB) prescribed limits during night time. A major reason for the generation of road traffic noise is due to the equal composition of 2-wheeler and 4-wheeler on the arterial road and heavy vehicles were recorded during morning peak and evening peak even though they are prohibited during peak hours.  相似文献

Road traffic noise pollution has been recognized as a serious issue which affects human health as well as affects urban regions. Noise maps are very beneficial to identify the impact of noise pollution. A noise mapping study performed to study the propagation of noise in tier-II city along with field measurements. The noise maps are developed using a computer simulation model (SoundPLAN essential 4.0 software). The noise prediction models like U.K’s CoRTN, Germany’s RLS-90, and their modified versions, which can be used for homogenous road traffic conditions, cannot be successfully applied in heterogeneous road traffic conditions of India. In developing country like India, road traffic noise pollution depends on the composition of heterogeneous traffic volume, variance in road geometrical, honking conditions, un-authorized parking, and varying density of the building on either side of the road. These traffic compositions contain vehicles, which have different sizes, speeds variations, a different dimension of vehicles. Because of fluctuating speeds, lack of lane disciplines, and un-authorized parking on main road lanes, honking events becomes inevitable, which changes and affects the urban soundscape of nations like India. Analysis of noise maps showed that horn honking due to un-authorized parked vehicles contributed an additional increase up to 11 dB (A) noise, which is quite significant.  相似文献

A model for motorway traffic noise has been obtained from measurements along the the Bangkok-Chonburi motorway. The model’s parameters include traffic volume and combination, the average spot speed of each type of vehicle and the physical conditions of the motorway in terms of right-of-way width, number of lanes, lane width, shoulder width, and median width for both of the main carriageways and frontage roads. The noise level that is generated by each type of vehicle has been analyzed according to the propagation in the direction perpendicular to the center line of motorway’s carriageway. The total traffic noise is then analyzed from traffic volume of all vehicle types on both sides of carriageways and frontage roads. The basic noise levels used in the motorway traffic noise model are modified according to the effective ground effect along the propagation path. The final result of this study is that a motorway traffic noise model based on the perpendicular propagation analysis technique performs well in a statistical goodness-of-fit test against the field data, and therefore, can be used effectively in traffic noise prediction for related or similar motorway projects.  相似文献

The urban sound environment of New York City (NYC) can be, amongst other things: loud, intrusive, exciting and dynamic. As indicated by the large majority of noise complaints registered with the NYC 311 information/complaints line, the urban sound environment has a profound effect on the quality of life of the city’s inhabitants. To monitor and ultimately understand these sonic environments, a process of long-term acoustic measurement and analysis is required. The traditional method of environmental acoustic monitoring utilizes short term measurement periods using expensive equipment, setup and operated by experienced and costly personnel. In this paper a different approach is proposed to this application which implements a smart, low-cost, static, acoustic sensing device based around consumer hardware. These devices can be deployed in numerous and varied urban locations for long periods of time, allowing for the collection of longitudinal urban acoustic data. The varied environmental conditions of urban settings make for a challenge in gathering calibrated sound pressure level data for prospective stakeholders. This paper details the sensors’ design, development and potential future applications, with a focus on the calibration of the devices’ Microelectromechanical systems (MEMS) microphone in order to generate reliable decibel levels at the type/class 2 level.  相似文献

A street categorization method to study urban noise was tested by comparing its results and predictive capacity with those of a reference method – the standard grid method (mentioned in the ISO 1996 standard). To this end, two independent noise surveys were carried out simultaneously in the city of Cáceres (Spain), each using one of these two methods. In a first step, the overall values of each procedure were obtained and the differences analyzed. Then, to analyze the predictive capacity of the categorization method, the two noise maps were constructed, and their predicted values (the noise levels of the squares of the grid for the grid method, and of the categories for the categorization method) were compared with the data of the other procedure used as control. It was found that the categorization method yielded similar results for the overall analysis of the city to those obtained with the value of the points of the grid method with considerably fewer sampling points. The categorization method also seems to be a more suitable predictor for new measurements, particularly for levels in the noisiest streets of the town.  相似文献

Nowadays, railway traffic noise is acknowledged to negatively impact the wellbeing of the whole community, particularly in urban environments. Unfortunately, the traditional approach to support decision making in noise reduction intervention seems to start only from the compliance to the regulations in place, rather than from the identification of an optimal trade-off between the cost of the annoyance of the community and the cost of the intervention. An advanced approach is proposed, which starts from any annoyance due to traffic noise, and which aims at identifying an optimal trade-off by means of evaluation of the minimum cost for the whole community. A case study in a railway noise-affected urban cluster of Milan, Italy, has been performed, which is representative of any urban environment affected by traffic noise. The sensitivity analysis on the parameters of the approach (the size of the buildings; the level of railway traffic; the cost per square meter of the acoustic barriers) shows that the results are robust and reliable, and in the specific case a noise reduction of 15–25 dB is optimal for the community.  相似文献

The effect of traffic composition on the noise pollution has been investigated in a small city Erzurum, located in eastern Turkey, where the population is about 400,000. Manual noise measurements and vehicle counts were performed at the four heaviest traffic points in the city for a period of 12 h. Using the information on vehicle composition and the maximum legal noise emissions of each type of vehicles, two prediction models based on genetic algorithms have been developed that can be used as tools for in-city traffic flow redesign. The models have been validated against some of the noise data. Measured traffic noise levels have been compared with predictions using the new models and some existing ones and a relatively good agreement has been obtained between them.  相似文献

Despite considerable advantages of the railway track over other means of transportation, noise pollution is the main adverse consequence of railway transportation. The basic cause of railway noise is rail corrugation. Although characteristics of railway noise have been considerably studied in the literature, rail corrugation effects on rolling noise generation in tangent tracks and the curves have not been sufficiently investigated. This research addresses the limitations of the current understanding of the rolling noise generation by investigating rail corrugation effects on rolling noise in tangent tracks and curves. This research was made based on the results obtained form a thorough field investigation carried out in a railway line which includes tangents tracks and sharp curves. A track geometry recording car was used to measure rail corrugations. For this purpose, an indirect method was developed in this research to obtain rail corrugation patterns from the data recorded by the track recording car. The effectiveness of the new method was shown. The induced noises were recorded using two particular types of microphones and implementing the method suggested by the ISO 3095 Standard. The rolling noise signal was distinguished from the total noise, using Butterworth Band-Pass Filtering. The role of rail corrugations in the rolling noise was discussed. Correlations were made between various types of corrugations and the induced noises. The results were presented and discussed in the spatial and frequency scales. Results obtained have led to new findings in rail corrugation effects on rolling noise generation. This research paves a way toward a better understanding of rolling noise sources and the parameters influencing the noise.  相似文献

This paper reports on strategic noise mapping research conducted in Dublin, Ireland. Noise maps are constructed for the day–evening–night-time and night-time periods and levels of population exposure are estimated for the same periods. In methodological terms, the research uses the UK’s calculation of road traffic noise (CRTN) method for calculating noise levels in the study area. This method has been adopted as the interim calculation method by the Irish authorities responsible for meeting the obligations set out in the EU Environmental Noise Directive (END). The research also investigates the usefulness of three noise mitigation measures for ‘acoustical planning’ purposes: traffic reductions, speed reductions and erection of acoustical barriers. The results indicate that levels of population exposure during night-time are extremely high relative to guideline limits set down by the World Health Organisation. In addition, the results highlight the significant role that certain noise mitigation measures can play in good ‘acoustical planning’.  相似文献

A noise map of the city of Valdivia is created as a way to evaluate the noise of the city. This is a process that is usually associated with high operative costs. Some statistical techniques have been employed that have allowed the extrapolation of some measured values to assess noise at different times of the year, including “off” days thus reducing time and costs. The day-evening-night level LDEN is used as the rating method to describe long-term annoyance. In conclusion, the noise pollution in the city is widespread throughout most of its streets area, where measured noise values are similar to those commonly observed in cities that do not have mitigation programs and whose road traffic is their principal noise generation source.  相似文献

A field study has been carried out in urban Assiut city, Egypt. The goals of this study are: (1) to carry out measurements to evaluate road traffic noise levels, (2) to determine if these levels exceeds permissible levels, (3) to examine people’s attitudes towards road traffic noise, (4) to ascertain the relationship between road traffic noise levels and degree of annoyance. The measurements indicate that traffic noise noise levels are higher than those set by Egyptian noise standards and policy to protect public health and welfare in residential areas: equivalent continuous A - weighted sound pressure levels (LA eq) = 80 dB and higher were recorded, while maximum permissible level is 65 dB. There is a strong relationship between road traffic noise levels and percentage of highly annoyed respondents. Higher road traffic noise levels mean that the percentage of respondents who feel highly annoyed is also increased.  相似文献

Noise mapping in urban environments: A Taiwan study   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2
This study analyzed the spatial characteristics of urban environmental noise by using noise maps produced at 345 noise monitoring stations in Tainan, Taiwan. Noise data were collected at varying intervals: morning, afternoon, and evening in both summer and winter. The spatial distributions of the noise levels during each time interval were evaluated and visualized by geographic information systems. The analytical results indicated that the highest and lowest average noise levels were 69.6 dB(A) and 59.3 dB(A) during summer mornings and winter evenings, respectively. Comparison of monitored noise levels with regulatory standards revealed that noise standard violations, which usually occur on summer evenings, are as high as 23 dB(A). Furthermore, the results of noise exposure analysis showed that over 90% of the Tainan City population are exposed to unacceptable noise as defined by US Department of Housing and Urban Development. The findings of this study show that noise maps can be useful for investigating noise in urban environments.  相似文献

This paper presents the difficulties found in trying to apply the “Balanced Approach” concept of ICAO (UN-International Civil Aviation Organization) on the noise pollution mitigation at urban Brazilian airports using, as a case study, the Congonhas Airport. It has been discussed by means of alternative operating scenarios, how to make the concept more flexible, aiming to bring the benefit of any additional acoustic comfort, without diminishing the installed capacity and already limited for environmental reasons. The results show that there are conditions for improvement, since there are both awareness of all players involved and permanent and real-time noise monitoring, even if those mitigating measures are not reflected on the noise annoyance models currently adopted for the land use planning.  相似文献

For many years the problem of noise generated by trains has had an increasing importance; in this paper, attention is focused on the noise generated by the train wheels due to their vibration. Today there are many kinds of railway wheels which are affected by different noise generation mechanisms. If the traditional and well known solid wheel is considered, a lot of data is already present in the literature both concerning the vibration and the noise point of view. On the other hand, the widely used resilient wheels are not so well known in their vibratory and acoustic behaviour as in the case of solid ones. The extensive experimentation presented and commented in this paper looks for a confirmation of some literature data first, and then it gives new results. Particularly the vibro-acoustic characterization of different kinds of wheels (both solid and resilient ones) has been carried out, in order to have a comparison between the behaviour of the newly built wheels and the older ones, representing the state of the art. Besides it has been shown that a detailed modal analysis of the suspended wheel coupled to sound measurements can give useful information about the wheel noise emission in its normal operating conditions.  相似文献

Noise pollution is one of the major public health problems in urban areas throughout the world. Noise is unwanted sound which produces undesirable problems in day to day life of human being (e.g., physiological and psychological problems). Rapid increase of the industrialization, urbanization, infrastructure, volume of motor vehicles, and increase in the road networks brought noise pollution to the highest level of disaster in a current situation. In urban areas, road traffic noise plays commanding role among all noise sources and affects the exposed inhabitants. The present work is done to evaluate and assess the traffic noise and its effects in Burla town. Burla, Vidyanagari of Odisha, is an emerging town in India, as it hosts national level of teaching and research institutions like IIM Sambalpur, a medical college- cum-hospital (VIMSAR), a technical university (VSSUT) and Sambalpur University. In last two decade, the road traffic volume has been increased and is facing severe noise pollution to its inhabitants. Noise pollution assessment was made at different locations of the town. This study unveiled the dismal state of noise pollution in the town. Noise contour maps were drawn to visualize the noise level at the traffic and its surroundings. The numbers of hearing impaired patients in different hospitals of the locality are increasing. That shows grim picture of the situation. Regression equations were established taking noise levels with percentage of highly annoyed people during study indicates strong correlation.  相似文献

Evaluation and analysis of the environmental noise of Messina, Italy   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2
In this paper, the results of a study on the environmental noise pollution of the city of Messina (Italy) are presented. The investigation has included a preliminary classification of the territory in six acoustically homogeneous areas according to Italian noise regulations. On the basis of the resultant acoustic zoning 35 sites were selected for an experimental survey. This last has been carried out by extensive measurements of the main indexes for noise pollution (Leq, L1, L10, L50, L90, L99) and of the traffic flow and composition. Results indicate that: (a) main roads of Messina are overloaded by traffic flow during day-time period and that in all the examined sites daily average sound levels due to road traffic exceed environmental standards by about 10 dBA; (b) environmental noise exhibits a certain degree of spatial variance resulting primarily from the peculiar geo-morphological structure of the town and from the transport infrastructure and (c) more than 25% of residents should be highly disturbed by road traffic noise.  相似文献

When noise mapping airports, the main noise sources are take offs and landings. But aircrafts’ taxi noise can also be important, and should be considered, for instance when there are residential buildings near the airport’s terminal.Main prediction tools, like Integrated Noise Model (INM), do not consider taxiing and standard outdoors noise predictions software applications must be used, to model taxi as industrial noise sources. This technical note shows frequency band sound power levels and directivity data for several aircrafts’ classes; so that an acoustic consultant can include taxi for noise mapping an airport.  相似文献
