The speech intelligibility in classroom can be influenced by background-noise levels, speech sound pressure level (SSPL), reverberation time and signal-to-noise ratio (SNR). The relationship between SSPL and subjective Chinese Mandarin speech intelligibility and the effect of different SNRs on Chinese Mandarin speech intelligibility in the simulated classroom were investigated through room acoustical simulation, auralisation technique and subjective evaluation. Chinese speech intelligibility test signals recorded in anechoic chamber were convolved with the simulated binaural room impulse responses, and then reproduced through the headphone by different SSPLs and SNRs. The results show that Chinese Mandarin speech intelligibility scores increase with increasing of SSPLs and SNRs within a certain range in simulated classrooms. Chinese Mandarin speech intelligibility scores have no significant difference with SNRs of no less than 15 dBA under the same reverberation time condition.  相似文献

This work concerns speech intelligibility tests and measurements in three primary schools in Italy, one of which was conducted before and after an acoustical treatment. Speech intelligibility scores (IS) with different reverberation times (RT) and types of noise were obtained using diagnostic rhyme tests on 983 pupils from grades 2-5 (nominally 7-10 year olds), and these scores were then correlated with the Speech Transmission Index (STI). The grade 2 pupils understood fewer words in the lower STI range than the pupils in the higher grades, whereas an IS of ~97% was achieved by all the grades with a STI of 0.9. In the presence of traffic noise, which resulted the most interfering noise, a decrease in RT from 1.6 to 0.4 s determined an IS increase on equal A-weighted speech-to-noise level difference, S/N(A), which varied from 13% to 6%, over the S/N(A) range of -15 to +6 dB, respectively. In the case of babble noise, whose source was located in the middle of the classroom, the same decrease in reverberation time leads to a negligible variation in IS over a similar S/N(A) range.  相似文献

According to 4 acoustical parameters of noise samples (i.e., loudness, sharpness, fluctuation strength and roughness), Zwicker’s psychoacoustic annoyance model can be used to estimate the relative degree of noise annoyance. However, this model cannot be well applied to compare the annoyance degrees of tonal noises and atonal noises. In order to improve its estimation effect on tonal noises, 3 groups of noise samples were selected randomly, i.e., 27 low-frequency tonal noise samples induced by a 1000 kV transformer with A-weighted equivalent sound pressure levels ranging from 41.2 dBA to 73.0 dBA; 30 low-, mid- or high-frequency tonal/atonal noise samples with loudness levels ranging from 60 phon to 80 phon; and 60 other noise samples with A-weighted equivalent sound pressure levels ranging from 40.7 dBA to 75.0 dBA. Laboratory listening tests were conducted on the above 3 sample groups respectively via an 11-point numerical scale. The Zwicker’s psychoacoustic annoyance model was improved by taking tonality into account, and introducing the evaluation result of the first noise sample group (1000 kV transformer noise samples) to determine the coefficients in the model. The applicability of the improved model was examined by the evaluation results of the other two groups as well as the data in a previous research on annoyance of 220 kV/500 kV transformer noises. Results show that the improved model can estimate the relative annoyance degrees caused by various types of tonal/atonal noises much more accurately.  相似文献

In this work, estimation of ambient noise spectrum influenced by wind speed and wave height carried out for the frequency range of 500 Hz to 5 kHz using Feed forward Neural Network (FNN) is presented. Ocean ambient noise measurements were made in the shallow waters of Bay of Bengal using a portable data acquisition system with a high sensitivity hydrophone at a depth of 5 m from the surface.100 sets of data covering a rage of wind speeds from 2.5 m/s to 8.5 m/s with approximately 15 sets of data falling within 1 m/s over the range of wind speed were used for training the FNN. The parameter wave height which contributes to the noise producing mechanism is also used for training along with wind speed. The results revealed that the proposed method is useful in the estimation and interpolation of underwater noise spectrum level and hence in simulation for the considered frequency range. These were confirmed by calculating the Mean Squared Error (MSE) between the experimental data and the simulation. As the measurements of the underwater ambient noise level are very difficult in remote oceanic regions, where conditions are often inhospitable, these studies seem to be relevant.  相似文献

Sonic crystals are periodic arrangement of scatterers made of material with low acoustic impedance or sound hard materials [1]. Sonic crystals have numerous applications such as green belts and sound barriers. Here we showed that a typical maze structure at children playground can attenuate noise effectively for frequencies ranging from 12.5 Hz to 20,000 Hz. The original designer for the maze structure probably does not have that in mind. The maze structure can be viewed as a sonic crystal structure with sound attenuation characteristics. We found that the maze was able to attenuate noise up to 17.9 dBA for frequency range below 1000 Hz and 23 dBA for higher frequency range up to 20,000 Hz. The maze structure was able to mitigate noise at a wide range of frequencies in addition to the center frequency (fcfc) of 478 Hz which was estimated based on the Bragg’s Law. The periodic effects of the maze was also proven by numerical studies. Our results demonstrated that the maze structure commonly found in children playgrounds was able to attenuate noise covering the whole human hearing range.  相似文献

单耳通信时,周边噪声对语言可懂度产生影响。针对信号侧语音信号强度70dB时,研究3种不同类型噪声下,干扰侧不同强度噪声和信号侧不同信噪比情况的语言可懂度。实验结果表明:当信号侧信噪比大于某一阈值时,干扰侧噪声对可懂度不产生显著影响,该阈值同噪声类型有关;而在信号侧低信噪比的情形下,干扰侧适当强度噪声可提高信号侧语言可懂度,最佳干扰噪声级为78—82dB,过大的干扰侧噪声级导致可懂度下降。基于心理声学和生理学的初步机理发现:噪声环境下的语音识别中,对侧耳中耳肌肉伸缩对噪声感知的抑制提高了信号侧语言可懂度。   相似文献

This work reports on investigations into the wind dependence of ambient noise in the Bay of Bengal. Ambient noise measurements were made in the shallow water of Bay of Bengal using a portable broadband, high frequency data acquisition system together with a sensitive hydrophone suspended from the measuring platform at a depth of 5 m from the surface where the ocean depth was 25 m. Periodic measurements were carried out for one year corresponding to a wind speed range between 2 m/s and 9 m/s during summer, monsoon and winter seasons. The proportionality of the noise level with wind speed for frequencies ranging from 500 Hz to 6 kHz for each season was studied. The analysis reveals that the correlation between the wind speed and the ambient noise spectrum level was higher at lower frequencies. The results of empirical fitting based on analysis were used for noise level prediction and the model predictions compare well with the measured noise level. Further it was observed that the wind generated noise level measured during summer was approximately 8 dB less than that in other seasons. On the other hand the proportionality between the noise level and the wind speed was less during winter.  相似文献

The present research sought to investigate the effect of noise, comparable to that experienced in an aircraft cabin, on cognitive performance in terms of working memory and recognition memory. In addition, and since advancements in technology have long permitted the exchange of information via various media, the present research also sought to investigate the effect of in-cabin aircraft noise on the medium in which the target signal is delivered. Thirty-two participants (19 female), half non-native English speakers with an average age of 21.84 years (SD = 3.16), and all with normal hearing were asked to complete four different memory tasks under two different experimental factors. The first independent variable was noise, with two conditions: no noise versus wideband noise at 80 dBA. The second independent variable was mode of presentation, with two conditions: target signal presented aurally or visually. With the presentation of stimuli presented in a counterbalanced order, the results from a series of mixed repeated measures analyses revealed that working memory appears largely immune from the effects of wideband noise at 80 dBA. In contrast, recognition memory is most vulnerable to the effects of this noise. In terms of mode of delivery, presenting the target signal visually improves recall performance on the recognition memory task and two of the three working memory tasks (not the linguistics working memory task). Also noise had a greater effect on non-native English speakers on the recognition memory task. These results highlight the varying effect of noise on memory, and the benefits of considering alternate methods of presenting information in noisy settings, such as aviation.  相似文献

A previous experimental study showed that the cortisol response upon awakening was reduced following nights with low-frequency noise exposure. This study comprised a larger number of subjects and an extended period of acclimatisation nights. In total, 26 male subjects slept during five consecutive nights in a sleep laboratory. Half of the subjects were exposed to low-frequency noise (40 dBA) on the 4th night and had their reference night (24 dBA) on the 5th night, while the reverse conditions were present for the other half of the group. Subjective sleep disturbances were recorded by questionnaires and cortisol response upon awakening was measured in saliva. The results showed that subjects were more tired and felt less socially orientated in the morning after nights with low-frequency noise. Mood was negatively affected in the evening after nights with low-frequency noise. No effect of noise condition was found on the cortisol secretion. There was a significant effect of group and weekday, indicating that further methodological developments are necessary before saliva cortisol secretion can be reliably used as an indicator of noise-disturbed sleep.  相似文献

This paper describes an application of the multichannel signal processing technique of adaptive decorrelation filtering to the design of an assistive listening system. A simulated "dinner table" scenario was studied. The speech signal of a desired talker was corrupted by three simultaneous speech jammers and by a speech-shaped diffusive noise. The technique of adaptive decorrelation filtering processing was used to extract the desired speech from the interference speech and noise. The effectiveness of the assistive listening system was evaluated by observing improvements in A-weighted signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) and in sentence intelligibility, where the latter was evaluated in a listening test with eight normal hearing subjects and three subjects with hearing impairments. Significant improvements in SNR and sentence intelligibility were achieved with the use of the assistive listening system. For subjects with normal hearing, the speech reception threshold was improved by 3 to 5 dBA, and for subjects with hearing impairments, the threshold was improved by 4 to 8 dBA.  相似文献

A pair-wise comparison experiment on subjective annoyance rating of nine different noise samples is the focus of this paper. These noise samples collected from some associated facilities in urban residential areas are classified into three different types according to their frequency characteristics, and their A-weighted levels are equalized at 65 dBA. Based on the assessment of judging errors and statistical validity analysis of each testee’s evaluating matrix, invalid data are eliminated. The results show that the percentage of testees who chose noise samples containing more low frequency components had an obvious downside trend with the descending degree of annoyance from ‘the most annoyed’ to ‘the least annoyed’. The result indicates that noise which has low frequency characteristic is more annoying than noise of other frequencies when their A-weighted level are the same. Therefore, A-weighted level cannot scientifically assess noise annoyance which contains low frequency components mostly.  相似文献

The study of the brain's functional organization at laminar and columnar level of the cortex with blood oxygenation-level dependent (BOLD) functional MRI (fMRI) is affected by the contribution of large veins downstream from the microvascular response to brain activity. Blood volume- and especially perfusion-based techniques may reduce this problem because of their reduced sensitivity to venous effects, but may not allow the same spatial resolution because of smaller signal changes associated with brain activity. Here we investigated the practical resolution limits of perfusion-weighted fMRI in human visual stimulation experiments. For this purpose, we used a highly sensitive, single-shot perfusion labeling (SSPL) technique at 7 T and compared sensitivity to detect visual activation at low (2 mm, n = 10) and high (1 mm, n = 8) nominal isotropic spatial, and 3 s temporal, resolution with BOLD in 5½-minute-long experiments. Despite the smaller absolute signal change with activation, 2 mm resolution SSPL yielded comparable sensitivity to BOLD. This was attributed to a superior suppression of physiological noise with SSPL. However, at 1 mm nominal resolution, SSPL sensitivity fell on average at least 42% below that of BOLD, and detection of visual activation was compromised. This is explained by the fact that at high resolution, with both techniques, typically thermal noise rather than physiological noise dominates sensitivity. The observed sensitivity loss implies that to perform 1-mm resolution, perfusion weighted fMRI with a robustness similar to BOLD, scan times that are almost 3 times longer than the comparable BOLD experiment are required. This is in line with or slightly better than previous comparisons between perfusion-weighted fMRI and BOLD. The lower sensitivity has to be weighed against the spatial fidelity advantages of high-resolution perfusion-weighted fMRI.  相似文献

The linearity of a Japanese verbal scale of annoyance was estimated under real noise exposure. Young healthy adults, 32 male and 132 female were exposed to white noise of 30, 45, 60, 75 and 90 dBA in rooms where the exposure levels could be controlled according to contours. The series of noise exposure consisted of three components; white noise, pure-tone for conditioning and silence for evaluating noise. During the exposures the noisiness of each emission was evaluated with the verbal scale and a line-rating scale. The data showed a significant correlation of about 0.9 between the exposure level and the line length on the rating scale. The regression line of the noise level to the line length exhibited a reasonable locus of zero on the line length at the ambient noise level. The rank correlation between the selected modifier and the noise level was nearly 0.8 . When the five modifiers were converted to 1-5 points, respectively, the regression of the line length to the selected modifier revealed an adequate and consistent fitness (coefficient of determination was >0.8). The results suggest that the scale can be used as an equally divided linear scale in community noise research.  相似文献

Speech intelligibility in classrooms affects the learning efficiency of students directly, especially for the students who are using a second language. The speech intelligibility value is determined by many factors such as speech level, signal to noise ratio, and reverberation time in the rooms. This paper investigates the contributions of these factors with subjective tests, especially speech level, which is required for designing the optimal gain for sound amplification systems in classrooms. The test material was generated by mixing the convolution output of the English Coordinate Response Measure corpus and the room impulse responses with the background noise. The subjects are all Chinese students who use English as a second language. It is found that the speech intelligibility increases first and then decreases with the increase of speech level, and the optimal English speech level is about 71 dBA in classrooms for Chinese listeners when the signal to noise ratio and the reverberation time keep constant. Finally, a regression equation is proposed to predict the speech intelligibility based on speech level, signal to noise ratio, and reverberation time.  相似文献

In order to gain the wavelength drift of Mach–Zehnder interferometer (MZI) sensor system, achieve the measurement of ambient environment parameters precisely, so, need to treatment optical fiber sensing signal with noise. Firstly, introduce the method of neighborhood wavelet coefficient by analyzing the drawback of traditional wavelet de-noising methods. Secondly, an improved threshold is putted forward based on neighboring coefficients in this paper which is to overcome the shortcomings of traditional wavelet methods. Finally, the threshold function proposed by this paper deal with MZI sensing noisy signal together with improved threshold. The simulation result shows that the new method can get the better signal-to-noise ratios (SNR) and root of mean square error (MSE) simultaneously and gain the reconstruction signal of the higher correlation coefficient (CC). Compared with the soft and hard threshold method, its SNR increases by 2–4 db, and compared with NeighCoeff, its SNR improves by 1.2 db. The peak error is 1.6 pm. So, the system can meet the requirement of improving sensor detection precision.  相似文献

通过实验室研究探讨了不同噪声源在不同声压级条件下对儿童短时记忆力和注意力的影响。在每一个实验中都选取了30名710岁的儿童作为被试,在他们完成相应认知任务的同时,用耳机随机播放3565 dBA的交通噪声、白噪声和空调噪声,考察各种噪声条件对被试认知成绩和主观烦恼度的影响。研究结果表明,噪声对儿童的影响主要体现在主观烦恼度的变化上,不同的噪声条件并没有引起作业成绩的显著差异。影响儿童主观烦恼度的主要因素是声压级,随着声压级的增大,儿童的烦恼度会增加,当声压级在4550 dBA时,儿童对噪声开始产生烦恼感,当声压级在6065 dBA时,儿童对噪声产生了较显著的烦恼感。声压级对儿童烦恼度的影响没有随着噪声源的改变而改变。在相同的噪声条件下,短时记忆力实验中儿童的主观烦恼度都高于注意力实验,说明随着认知过程复杂程度的增加,噪声引起的烦恼度会相应增加。   相似文献

An investigation was conducted to determine the noise propagation (under stationary condition) and noise at operator’s ear level of popular 18.7 and 26.1 kW tractors and 4.6 and 6.7 kW hand tractors during field operations with various implements. It was observed that both tractors produced the noise of 92 dB(A) Leq in the working zone of operator. The sound pressure level (SPL) of the hand tractor was about 2 dB(A) Leq higher than that of the tractor. The SPL during field operations at operator’s ear level increased with increase in engine speed and forward speed. Furthermore, the SPL was higher for field operations corresponding to the implement requiring higher draft. It was observed that the SPLs of the tractors and hand tractors were more than the exposure limit of noise for 8-h workday recommended by ISO and OSHA. This may cause health problems to the farmers in the long run.  相似文献

A new method for cancelling background noise from running speech was used to study voice production during realistic environmental noise exposure. Normal subjects, 12 women and 11 men, read a text in five conditions: quiet, soft continuous noise (75 dBA to 70 dBA), day-care babble (74 dBA), disco (87 dBA), and loud continuous noise (78 dBA to 85 dBA). The noise was presented over loudspeakers and then removed from the recordings in an off-line processing operation. The voice signals were analyzed acoustically with an automatic phonetograph and perceptually by four expert listeners. Subjective data were collected after each vocal loading task. The perceptual parameters press, instability, and roughness increased significantly as an effect of speaking loudly over noise, whereas vocal fry decreased. Having to make oneself heard over noise resulted in higher SPL and F0, as expected, and in higher phonation time. The total reading time was slightly longer in continuous noise than in intermittent noise. The women had 4 dB lower voice SPL overall and increased their phonation time more in noise than did the men. Subjectively, women reported less success making themselves heard and higher effort. The results support the contention that female voices are more vulnerable to vocal loading in background noise.  相似文献

The measurement of room impulse response (RIR) when there are high background noise levels frequently means one must deal with very low signal-to-noise ratios (SNR). If such is the case, the measurement might yield unreliable results, even when synchronous averaging techniques are used. Furthermore, if there are non-linearities in the apparatus or system time variances, the final SNR can be severely degraded. The test signals used in RIR measurement are often disturbed by non-stationary ambient noise components. A novel approach based on the energy analysis of ambient noise - both in the time and in frequency - was considered. A modified maximum length sequence (MLS) measurement technique, referred to herein as the hybrid MLS technique, was developed for use in room acoustics. The technique consists of reducing the noise energy of the captured sequences before applying the averaging technique in order to improve the overall SNRs and frequency response accuracy. Experiments were conducted under real conditions with different types of underlying ambient noises. Results are shown and discussed. Advantages and disadvantages of the hybrid MLS technique over standard MLS technique are evaluated and discussed. Our findings show that the new technique leads to a significant increase in the overall SNR.  相似文献
