Muon-transfer rates in collisions of hydrogen-like atoms or with light nuclei t, 3He, 4He, 6Li or 7Li, are calculated in a semiclassical approximation to the Faddeev-Hahn equations. The two nuclei involved are treated classically, while the motion of the muon in their Coulomb field is considered from the quantum mechanical point of view. The deexcitation of excited muonic protium and deuterium in the mixture of hydrogen and helium isotopes is considered. Methods of experimental determination of the probability of direct atomic muon capture by hydrogen and muon transfer rates from excited muonic hydrogen to helium are proposed. Theoretical results for the population of the muonic atoms in the ground state, , are compared with the existing experimental data. Muon transfer from hydrogen isotopes to helium is of importance in muon-catalyzed fusion and serves as a unique tool for the direct observation of the mesomolecular ion (pµHe)*. During two data-taking runs in 1994 and 1995 at PSI, measurements of the transfer from protium to helium were carried out using CCD's and Ge-diodes as independent X-ray detectors to obtain information on the time distribution and intensity of the 7 keV decay X-ray of the mesomolecular ion. Dual1H2 +4 He and triple1H2 + Ne +3,4He gas mixtures at low temperatures were investigated to extract transfer rates. Protium of high purity was available. For the first time a transfer rate from muonic protium to3He was measured. A general survey of our measurements and preliminary analysis is presented.  相似文献

The transfer reaction of negative muons from muonic protium to 3 and 4 in binary and triple gas mixtures was studied. In the binary mixtures the transfer rates to the two helium isotopes were determined from the time distribution of the 7-keV X-rays of the intermediate muonic molecule (pμHe)*. The experimental transfer rate to 4 is in good agreement with theoretical predictions, whereas the rate to 3 is a factor 2 to 3 smaller than the predicted ones. Radiative branching ratios of the (pμHe)8 molecular decay were obtained. Muon transfer from excited states of muonic protium gives the main contribution to the total intensity of the μHe Lyman series in the binary mixtures. Values of q 1s He are determined. The deflection of Ne atoms in the metastable state 3 P 2 by coherent transfer of the momenta of 4 or 8 photons is demonstrated, based on the technique developed for coherent population transfer with delayed pulses (STIRAP). After deflection the intensity profile of the isotope of mass 20 is fully seperated from that for the undeflected atoms of mass 22. It is furthermore shown, how the interplay of Larmor precession of the electronic magnetic moment and the sequential deflection in two spatially separated zones can be used to measure the magnetic field, integrated over the flight-path between the transfer zones. Conductivity and permittivity of the organic transfer salt (TMTTF)2Br have been measured at low frequencies (102-107 Hz) between room temperature down to 4 K. The real part of the permittivity, , is shown to grow below the temperature at which the conductivity is maximum due to charge localization of Mott-Hubbard type. reaches a maximum of 105-106 at 35 K-50 K depending on the samples. Decreasing temperature below , sharply decreases down to helium temperature through the antiferromagnetic phase transition at T N = 15 K. We explain the magnitude, the temperature and frequency dependence of as resulting from short range charge density wave states in the temperature range where charge localization occurs. The measurement method and results measuring of the stopping power ratio of helium-3 and deuterium atoms for muons slowed down in the D/3He mixture are presented. Measurements were performed at four values of pure 3He gas target densities, ϕHe = 0.0337, 0.0355, 0.0359, 0.0363 (normalized to the liquid hydrogen density) and at a density 0.0585 of the D/3He mixture. The experiment was carried out at PSI muon beam μE4 with the momentum Pμ= 34.0 MeV/c. The measured value of the mean stopping ratio S$_{3^He/D}$ is 1.66±0.04.  相似文献

Dynamics of the Yb3+ to Er3+ energy transfer in LiNbO3   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
The energy transfer dynamics between Yb3+ and Er3+ ions in lithium niobate is investigated after ytterbium-pulsed excitation at 920 nm. The sensitisation of the LiNbO3:Er3+ system with Yb3+ ions does not modify the lifetime of the 4I13/2 erbium level (1.5-μm emission), whereas it induces a marked, concentration-dependent change in the lifetime of the 2F5/2 (Yb3+) and 4S3/2 (Er3+) multiplets (1060-nm and 550-nm emissions, respectively). The results are analysed by using the rate-equation formalism and cross-relaxation model for the energy transfer. The energy and time distributions of the decay X-rays of excited, metastable, molecular (dμHe)*-resonances were measured. The comparison of the observed energy spectra with calculated ones suggests that decay from the rotational state J = 1 dominates at the investigated conditions. The muon transfer rates from ground state deuterium to the helium isotopes 3He and 4He at low temperatures were determined from the time distributions of these spectra. Additionally, the temperature dependence of the muon transfer rate was clearly established in deuterium / 4He mixtures. We have experimentally studied the muon transfer reactions from hydrogen to helium in liquid hydrogen with helium impurity concentration around 100–1000 ppm. The X-ray from the decay of (d4He) molecule was clearly observed in the D2-4He system, whereas the corresponding X-ray was very weak in other systems such as D2-3He and H2-4He. This is well explained by the particle decay mode of the muonic molecule.  相似文献

Using electron paramagnetic resonance, optical absorption, and fast spectroscopy of light-induced absorption changes, it is shown that codoping BaTiO3:Rh with NaBa acceptors raises the charge state of Rh3+ to Rh4+. Subsequent oxidation under high oxygen pressures can lower the Fermi level to Rh4+/5+, leading to increased infrared absorption. The light-induced charge transfer in such specimens is characterised by “one center” behaviour. 4 as a host for thulium has several advantages for diode pumping in comparison with other crystals. The absorption cross section of thulium in GdVO4 is considerably stronger and broader than in YAG and YLF and the spectrum is shifted closer to the emission wavelength of commercially available AlGaAs laser diodes. In our paper, we report on the temporal and spectral emission properties of a monolithical Tm30.01mm+([%at.]6.9):GdVO4 microchip laser at 1.9 μm. The laser can be adjusted to emit either cw or in an oscillating regime. Slope efficiencies up to 47% are achieved. This value exceeds the Stokes limit of 42%. The experimental muon transfer rates from muonic protium and deuterium to heavier elements show a complexZ dependence. Instead of the expected monotonicZ dependence considerable variations between neighboring elements are observed. Transfer to neon has a specially small rate. Furthermore, the time distribution of the muonic X-rays shows in a number of molecules a complex structure, and depends in the case of a H2 + CH4 gas mixture also on the total pressure.  相似文献

60 films by means of ionized cluster beam (ICB) deposition. X-ray diffraction (XRD) measurement showed the C60 films to be polycrystalline. The films show negative resistance–temperature coefficients, and their room-temperature resistivity is greater than 102 Ω cm. The films were implanted with 80-keV phosphorus, BBr3, Ar, and He ions, under doses ranging up to 1016 cm-2. The resistivity of the implanted films decreases with increasing doses. n-type electrical conduction was observed for phosphorus-implanted C60 films. The interaction of impinging ions with C60 clusters was found to force the C60 molecules to disintegrate and the films to amorphize. p-type conduction was observed for the C60 films doped with aluminum by simultaneously sputtering aluminum during deposition. C60/Si structures show heterojunction characteristics that can be influenced by light illumination. The photoelectric properties of the films were found to be improved by doping with aluminum. We report the use of broadband heterodyne spectroscopy to perform continuous measurement of the interaction energy Eint between one atom and a high-finesse optical cavity, during individual transit events of ≈250 μs duration. We achieve a fractional sensitivity ≈4×10-4/ to variations in Eint/? within a measurement bandwidth that covers 2.5 decades of frequency (1–300 kHz). Our basic procedure is to drop cold cesium atoms into the cavity from a magnetooptic trap while monitoring the cavity’s complex optical susceptibility with a weak probe laser. The instantaneous value of the atom–cavity interaction energy, which in turn determines the coupled system’s optical susceptibility, depends on both the atomic position and (Zeeman) internal state. Measurements over a wide range of atom–cavity detunings reveal the transition from resonant to dispersive coupling, via the transfer of atom-induced signals from the amplitude to the phase of light transmitted through the cavity. By suppressing all sources of excess technical noise, we approach a measurement regime in which the broadband photocurrent may be interpreted as a classical record of conditional quantum evolution in the sense of recently developed quantum trajectory theories. The non-linear Voigt effect has been studied in He discharge under resonance laser interaction with the He transition. The range of non-linear signal existence was determined. The contribution of the lower and upper states to the overall signal was analyzed. The cross-section for depolarizing collisions with ground state He atoms was estimated for the 33 D 2,3 He state. To investigate the energy dependence of muon transfer to oxygen, we performed measurements in gaseous mixtures of hydrogen and oxygen. The time distributions of the muonic oxygen X-rays showed the same structure as the one observed earlier in H2+SO2 mixtures. In the delayed part of these distributions, one can distinguish a short-time and a long-time component. From the latter, we deduced the transfer rates from thermalized muonic protium, respectively deuterium, to oxygen. The short-time component can be interpreted as being due to muon transfer from epithermal muonic hydrogen atoms. The time parameters are characteristic for the deceleration process as well as for energy-dependent transfer rates. With results of recent research on the formation and the thermalization of muonic hydrogen, we performed Monte Carlo simulations in order to test the hypothesis of an energy-dependent transfer rate.  相似文献

Permanent holographic recording in sputtered indium oxide (InOx) thin films is demonstrated, using ultraviolet radiation at 193 nm emitted by an ArF excimer laser. Steady-state refractive index changes of up to 5×10-3 are calculated from the measured diffraction efficiency of a HeNe laser probe beam. The recorded gratings exhibit a dynamic behaviour that relaxes to a steady-state value that depends on the oxygen partial pressure used during growth and on the recording beam intensity. The emission of photons in the visible wavelength range from mass-selected Ag+ n, Cu+ n, Pt+ n and Pd+ n () clusters is observed. Photons are detected 10-4 s after the cluster generation in a sputter source. The emission intensities display distinct variations with cluster size and material. The observations are interpreted in terms of the decay of metastable states which are excited during the high-energy sputtering process used for the generation of these clusters.
