We present the first results for neutral-kaon mixing using (2+1)-flavors of domain-wall fermions. A new approach is used to extrapolate to the physical up and down quark masses from our numerical studies with pion masses in the range 240-420 MeV; only SU(2)_{L}xSU(2)_{R} chiral symmetry is assumed and the kaon is not assumed to be light. Our main result is B_{K};{MS[over ]}(2 GeV)=0.524(10)(28) where the first error is statistical and the second incorporates estimates for all systematic errors.  相似文献

The electric dipole moment (edm) of the muon ( d(e)(&mgr;)) is evaluated in supersymmetric models with nonzero neutrino masses and large neutrino mixing arising from the seesaw mechanism. It is found that if the seesaw mechanism is embedded in the framework of a left-right symmetric gauge structure, the interactions responsible for the right-handed neutrino Majorana masses lead to an enhancement in d(e)(&mgr;) to values as large as 5x10(-23)e cm, with a correlated value of (g-2)(&mgr;) approximately 13x10(-10). This should provide a strong motivation for improving the edm of the muon to the level of 10(-24)e cm as has recently been proposed.  相似文献

We present a pedogogical review of Majorana masses and Majorana's theory of two-component massive fermions. We discuss the difference between Majorana and Dirac masses and show that Majorana masses are formion-number violating. We discuss the connection between Majorana and, Weyl spinors and show that the massive Majorana and Weyl field theories are equivalent. We study the second quantization of the massive Weyl theory in detail.  相似文献

The left-right symmetric model with doublet and bi-doublet Higgs scalars can accommodate linear, inverse or double seesaw for generating small neutrino masses in the presence of three singlet fermions. If the singlet fermions have small Majorana masses, they can form three pairs of quasi-degenerate Majorana fermions with three right-handed neutrinos. The decays of the quasi-degenerate Majorana fermions can realize the resonant leptogenesis. Alternatively, the right-handed neutrinos can obtain seesaw suppressed Majorana masses if the singlet fermions are very heavy. In this case leptogenesis, with or without resonant effect, is allowed in the decays of the right-handed neutrinos.  相似文献

A general feature of TeV-scale radiative seesaw models, in which tiny neutrino masses are generated via loop corrections, is an extended scalar (Higgs) sector. Another feature is the Majorana nature; e.g., introducing right-handed neutrinos with TeV-scale Majorana masses under the discrete symmetry, or otherwise introducing some lepton number violating interactions in the scalar sector. We study phenomenological aspects of these models at collider experiments. We find that, while properties of the extended Higgs sector of these models can be explored to some extent, the Majorana nature of the models can also be tested directly at the International Linear Collider via the electron–positron and electron–electron collision experiments.  相似文献

It is known that the charged lepton masses obey to high precision an interesting empirical relation (Koide relation). In turn, the light neutrino masses cannot obey such a relation. We note that if neutrinos acquire their mass via the seesaw mechanism, the empirical mass relation could hold for the masses in the Dirac and/or heavy Majorana mass matrix. Examples for the phenomenological consequences are provided. We furthermore modify the mass relation for light neutrino masses including their Majorana phases, and show that it can be fulfilled in this case as well, with interesting predictions for neutrinoless double beta decay.  相似文献

We generalize Yang's theory from the U(1) gauge field to the non-Abelian U(1)xSU(2)(spin) gauge field. Based on this generalization and taking into account the geometric Pancharatnam phase as well as an effective Aharonov-Bohm (AB) phase in nonadiabatic noncyclic transport, we calculate the ensemble average Fourier spectrum of the conductance in disordered mesoscopic rings connected to two leads. Our theory can explain the experimental results reported by Morpurgo et al. [Phys. Rev. Lett. 80, 1050 (1998)] more satisfactorily. We indicate that the observed splitting stems from the nonadiabatic noncyclic Pancharatnam phase and the effective AB phase, both being dependent on spin-orbit coupling.  相似文献

In a novel parametrization of neutrino mixing and in the approximation of τ-lepton dominance, we show that the one-loop renormalization-group equations (RGEs) of Dirac neutrinos are different from those of Majorana neutrinos even if two Majorana CP-violating phases vanish. As the latter can keep vanishing from the electroweak scale to the typical seesaw scale, it makes sense to distinguish between the RGE running effects of neutrino mixing parameters in Dirac and Majorana cases. The differences are found to be quite large in the minimal supersymmetric standard model with sizable tan β, provided the masses of three neutrinos are nearly degenerate or have an inverted hierarchy.  相似文献

The SO(3) gauge extension of SM, which is proposed to present a successfulexplanation for the observed small masses of neutrino and the nearly tri-bimaximal neutrino mixing, predicted the vector-like SO(3) triplet Majorana neutrinos and SUL(2) double Higgs bosons. In this work we calculate branching ratios of the charged lepton flavor violating decays lIlJV (V=γ,Z) induced by these Majorana neutrinos and Higgs bosons. We find that under the model parameters constrained by experimental bounds on the decays Z→lIlJ, the branching ratio of decays lI→lJγ can be up to 10-10, which may be accessible at the future experiments.  相似文献

Constraints on the heavy sterile neutrino mixing angles are studied in the framework of a minimal supersymmetric SO(10) model with the use of the double see-saw mechanism. A new singlet matter in addition to the right-handed neutrinos is introduced to realize the double see-saw mechanism. The light Majorana neutrino mass matrix is, in general, given by a combination of those of the singlet neutrinos and the active neutrinos. The minimal SO(10) model is used to give an example form of the Dirac neutrino mass matrix, which enables us to predict the masses and the mixing angles in the enlarged 9×9 neutrino mass matrix. Mixing angles between the light Majorana neutrinos and the heavy sterile neutrinos are shown to be within the LEP experimental bound on all ranges of the Majorana phases.  相似文献

We investigate baryogenesis in the νMSM which is the Minimal Standard Model (MSM) extended by three right-handed neutrinos with Majorana masses being smaller than the weak scale. In this model three sterile neutrinos, which are almost right-handed states, play important roles in cosmology. The baryon asymmetry of the universe (BAU) is generated via mechanism through flavor oscillation between two sterile neutrinos N2 and N3 which are degenerate in masses. We consider the case when BAU is solely originated from the CP violating phases in the mixing matrix of active neutrinos, i.e., the Dirac phase δ and the Majorana phase η, and study how BAU depends on these CP violating phases.  相似文献

We consider a horizontal SU(3)H × SU(2)L × U(1) model in which the large Majorana neutrino masses are associated with a large horizontal scale. We find that the charged lepton sector is responsible for the neutrino mixing which we calculate in the present model. The lepton–number violating process \nu_\mu is studied for the first time in connection with Majorana neutrino masses of the second generation. The sensitivity for light and heavy Majorana neutrinos is investigated. The ratio with respect to the standard model charged current process is improved by some orders of magnitude if compared to previously discussed Majorana induced processes. Non–observation of this process in previous experiments allows to demand the effective mass to be GeV, being more stringent than previously discussed direct bounds, however still unnaturally high. Therefore, in the forseeable future, indirect bounds on effective masses other than \mbox{} will be more stringent. TheSU(2)xSU(2) asymmetric linear sigma model is studied in a mean field approximation. A first order transition persists up to a critical value of the symmetry breaking term where it terminates at a higher order point. Magic textures are successful candidates of the correct texture for Majorana neutrinos. In this study, we demonstrate that several types of magic textures of Majorana neutrinos are approximately immanent in the flavor mass matrix of Dirac neutrinos. In addition, the normal mass ordering of Dirac neutrino masses is slightly preferable to inverted mass ordering in the context of magic textures.  相似文献

The fact that neutrinos are massive suggests that the minimal supersymmetric standard model (MSSM) might be extended in order to include three gauge-singlet neutrino superfields with Yukawa couplings of the type H2Lnuc. We propose to use these superfields to solve the mu problem of the MSSM without having to introduce an extra singlet superfield as in the case of the next-to-MSSM (NMSSM). In particular, terms of the type nuc H1H2 in the superpotential may carry out this task spontaneously through neutrino vacuum expectation values. In addition, terms of the type (nuc)3 avoid the presence of axions and generate effective Majorana masses for neutrinos at the electroweak scale. On the other hand, these terms break lepton number and R parity explicitly. For Dirac masses of the neutrinos of order 10(-4) GeV, eigenvalues reproducing the correct scale of neutrino masses are obtained.  相似文献
