We demonstrate a fiber ring laser with a dispersion compensation fiber (DCF) and a delayed interferometer (DI) with temperature control, which is able to switch eleven wavelengths one by one. In ring cavity, DCF supplies different effective cavity lengths for different wavelengths, DI generates a wavelength comb corresponding to the ITU grid, a flat-gain erbium-doped fiber amplifier (EDFA) provides uniform gain for each lasting wavelength, and a semiconductor optical amplifier (SOA) not only acts as active modulator, but also alleviates homogeneous broadening effect of EDFA. Stable pulse trains with a pulsewidth about 40 ps at 10 GHz have been obtained by injecting external optical control signals into the laser. Wavelength switching process among eleven wavelengths is achieved by merely tuning an intracavity optical delay line.  相似文献

A multiwavelength actively mode-locked fiber ring laser that utilises a single semiconductor optical amplifier as both a gain and mode-locking element is presented. It is verified experimentally that the number of mode-locked wavelengths may be maximised by compensating for the anomalous intra-cavity dispersion. This is achieved through the inclusion of an appropriate length of normal dispersion fiber in the laser cavity. Using this technique, the number of wavelengths simultaneously mode-locked at 10 GHz was increased from 2 to 5.  相似文献

The characteristics of a mechanically induced long-period fiber grating (MLPFG) made by pressing a pair of grooved plates over single-mode fiber tapers are analyzed. Fiber tapers with a waist length of 80 mm and diameter ranging from 90 to 125 μm, fabricated using the heating and puling method, were used. We observed that the resonance wavelengths shift toward shorter wavelengths as the fiber taper waist diameter is reduced. A maximum shift of 254 nm in the position of the resonance peaks was observed when the fiber diameter was reduced to 90 μm. This technique is particularly suitable for tuning the resonance wavelengths to shorter wavelengths below the limit imposed by the grooved plate period.  相似文献

A compact zirconium-erbium doped fiber (Zr-EDF) based multiwavelength fiber laser (MWFL) with stable output comb is proposed and demonstrated. The MWFL utilizes a 3 m long Zr-EDF with an erbium concentration of 3000 ppm and pumped by a 1480 nm laser diode (LD) as the active gain medium. A fiber based multimode polarization controller (PC) is used to precisely control the polarization states of the oscillating modes in the MWFL, distributing the total energy of the system among the lasing wavelengths in order to overcome the mode-suppression and mode-competition that arises from homogenous line broadening. The MWFL is capable of generating up to four lasing wavelengths with average peak powers of 0.08 dBm in the extended L-band of 1600 nm. The lasing wavelengths have a 3-dB linewidth of 0.1 and an extinction ratio of 40 dB as well as highly stable, with minimal fluctuations of less than 0.6 dB observed in the peak powers of the lasing wavelengths over a period of 1 h. The proposed system allows for the realization of a compact, cost-effective and stable erbium based MWFL capable of operating at room temperature.  相似文献

利用多极法对光子晶体光纤的色散特性进行了模拟, 通过设计合适的结构参数, 得到了具有3个零色散波长的单模光纤.对中心纤芯有1个微小空气孔光子晶体光纤的色散特性进行了分析, 设计出了具有4个零色散波长的色散曲线.分析了零色散波长随光纤结构的变化规律, 这些零色散波长的位置和间距可以在很大波长范围内灵活调节. 具有多个零色散波长的光纤可以得到色散值极低的超平坦色散曲线. 多个零色散波长光纤能产生丰富的相位匹配曲线, 可以有效地控制光孤子及超短脉冲的四波混频及共振散射产生的光谱特性.  相似文献

波长可开关光纤激光器可以选择多波长光纤激光器中的一个或多个波长输出,支持光网络中多个波长的动态分配,适应现代光纤通信系统信道数越来越多的波分复用和密集波分复用的发展方向.本文提出并实现了一种自激发多波长可开关掺铒光纤激光器.该激光器通过一个980 nm泵浦进行抽运,使用掺铒光纤作为增益介质,产生1 550 nm光谱,并通过一个环形结构返回,从而实现自激发的过程,降低了实验成本.实验使用一个含有两段保偏光纤的Sagnac环作为滤波器.通过调整Sagnac环形滤波器内偏振控制器的角度,改变Sagnac环形滤波器的腔内增益,可以让光纤光栅反射出来的波长选择性通过,从而实现波长的开关功能.实验证明,通过调整Sagnac滤波器的腔内增益而让多波长选择性通过,是一种有效的实现波长可开关功能的方法.  相似文献

We report detailed measurements of the optical properties of tapered photonic crystal fibers (PCFs). We observe a striking long-wavelength loss as the fiber diameter is reduced, despite the minimal airhole collapse along the taper. We associate this loss with a transition of the fundamental core mode as the fiber dimensions contract: At wavelengths shorter than this transition wavelength, the core mode is strongly confined in the fiber microstructure, whereas at longer wavelengths the mode expands beyond the microstructure and couples out to higher-order modes. These experimental results are discussed in the context of the so-called fundamental mode cutoff described by Kuhlmey et al. [Opt. Express 10, 1285 (2002)], which apply to PCFs with a finite microstructure.  相似文献

Tunable dual wavelength erbium-doped fiber laser (EDFL) with stable oscillation at room temperature is proposed and demonstrated. This laser utilizes a Bragg grating fabricated in a high birefringence fiber as the wavelength-selective component, and then achieves the stable dual wavelength oscillation by introducing the polarization hole burning effect. Furthermore, by applying lateral strain upon the fiber Bragg grating (FBG), the space of the laser dual wavelengths can be tuned continuously.  相似文献

A novel multiplexing technique for fiber optic communications has been developed that supports multiple channels of optical energy inside an optical fiber by confining each individual channel to a unique spatial location. These channels can operate at exactly the same wavelength as well as differing wavelengths. The basic operating principle and experimental results for spatial domain multiplexed fiber optic communication systems is presented here. This technique adds a new dimension to currently available multiplexing schemes and has the potential to increase the bandwidth of existing and futuristic optical fiber systems by multiple folds.  相似文献

We demonstrate a simple dual-wavelength ring erbium-doped fiber laser operating in single-longitudinal-mode (SLM) at room temperature. A pair of reflection type short-period fiber Bragg gratings (FBGs), which have two different center wavelengths of 1545.072 and 1545.284 nm, are used as the wavelength-selective component of the laser. A segment of unpumped polarization maintaining erbium-doped fiber (PM-EDF) is acted as a narrow multiband filter. By turning the polarization controller (PC) to enhance the polarization hole burning (PHB), the single-wavelength and dual-wavelength laser oscillations are observed at 1545.072 and 1545.284 nm. The output power variation is less than 0.6 dB for both wavelengths over a five-minute period and the optical signal to noise ratio (OSNR) is greater than 50 dB. By beating the dual-wavelengths at a photodetector (PD), a microwave signal at 26.44 GHz is demonstrated.  相似文献
