The modulation instability (MI) induced by cross-phase modulation (XPM) in dispersion-decreasing fiber (DDF), whose dispersion decreases along the direction of propagation, is solved and analyzed by the perturbation method for the extended nonlinear Schr¨odinger equation, considering the higher-order dispersion. The change of the gain spectra with incident power and dispersion decaying factor are also given respectively. Due to the fourth-order dispersion, XPM occurs at two gain spectral regions in both the normal and the anomalous dispersion regimes of DDF. The two gain spectral regions in the anomalous dispersion regime are larger than those in the normal dispersion regime. Moreover, the gain spectrum of the second region in the anomalous dispersion regime is near zero compared with that in the normal dispersion regime, indicating that XPM can be easily produced in the anomalous dispersion regime. The spectral width increases with the increase of the incident optical power and the dispersion decaying factor.  相似文献

An analytical expression was proposed to analyze the influence of group-delay ripple(GDR)on timing jitter induced by self-phase modulation(SPM)and intra-channel cross-phase modulation(IXPM)in pseudo- linear transmission systems when dispersion was compensated by chirped fiber Bragg grating(CFBG). Effects of ripple amplitude,period,and phase on timing jitter were discussed by theoretical and numerical analysis in detail.The results show that the influence of GDR on timing jitter changes linearly with the amplitude of GDR and whether it decreases or increases the timing jitter relies on the ripple period and ripple phase.Timing jitter induced by SPM and IXPM could be suppressed totally by adjusting the relative phase between the center frequency of the pulse and the ripples.  相似文献

It is shown that in a Doppler broadened open N-type four-level atomic system with spontaneously generated coherence (SGC), the gain without inversion (GWI) is very sensitive to the variation of the relative phase between the probe field and the driving field; the atomic exit rate (R0) and the ratio (S) of the atomic injection rates have a considerable modulation effect on the phase-dependent GWI. GWI first increases and then decreases with R0 increasing; in a certain value range of S, GWI increases monotonically with S increasing; by adjusting the values of R0 and S, in an open system a much larger GWI can be obtained than in the corresponding closed system [2011 Phys. Rev. A 83 043805]. The modulation effects of R0 and S on the phase-dependent GWI in the case with the counter-propagating probe and driving fields are stronger than those in the co-propagating case, GWI in the co-propagating case is much larger than that in the counter-propagating case.  相似文献

In this article based on the spectral phase interferometry for direct electric-field reconstruction (SPIDER), the femtosecond pulses with various phase characters are numerically simulated. The spectral phases and amplitudes of the transform-limited pulse, the linear chirped pulse, the cubic dispersion pulse, the quartic dispersion pulse, the self-phase modulation pulse and the pulses with the combination of different chirped characters are retrieved. These characterized pulses are applicable to the real-time measurement as samples for diagnosing the chirped characters of pulses quickly.  相似文献

The influences of SSD on the beam characteristics in the near held are investigated. Results snow that it the SSD parameters are increased, the laser intensity modulation increases while fluence modulation decreases, which is attributed to the temporal and spatial variation of the SSD pulse phase. The variations of intensity and fluence modulations with the SSD parameters are given. The simulation results are presented along with a method for choosing appropriate SSD parameters according to the variations and the requirements of applications.  相似文献

We propose and demonstrate a scheme to implement photonic multi-shape ultra-wideband(UWB) signal generation using a semiconductor optical amplifier(SOA) based nonlinear optical loop mirror(NOLM).By employing the cross phase modulation(XPM) effect,cross gain modulation(XGM),or both,multi-shape UWB waveforms are generated including monocycle,doublet,triplet,and quadruplet pulses.Both the shapes and polarities of the generated pulses are flexible to adjust,which may be very useful in UWB pulse shape modulation and pulse polarity modulation.  相似文献

The received signal intensity fluctuation and communication performance of an underwater optical wireless communication(UOWC) system under the air bubble effects are experimentally investigated. For different bubble density and size, lognormal, gamma, Weibull, and generalized extreme value distributions are tested to fit the fluctuation of the signal intensity at the receiving end. The best fitting distribution is found to vary with bubble parameters. The communication system performance with on–off keying and pulse position modulation is further studied.  相似文献

In this paper, the linear propagation characteristics of the exponential optical pulse with initial linear and nonlinear frequency chirp are numerically studied in a single mode fibre for β2 〈 0. It can be found that the temporal full width at half maximum and time-bandwidth product of exponential pulse monotonically increase with the increase of propagation distance and decrease with the increase of linear chirp C for C 〈 0.5, go through an initial decreasing stage near ζ= 1, then increase with the increase of propagation distance and linear chirp C for C 〉 0.5. The broadening of pulses with negative chirp is faster than that with positive chirp. The exponential pulse with linear chirp gradually evolves into a near-Gaussian pulse. The effect of nonlinear chirp on waveform of the pulse is much greater than that of linear chirp. The temporal waveform breaking of exponential pulse with nonlinear chirp is first observed in linear propagation. Furthermore, the expressions of the spectral width and time-bandwidth product of the exponential optical pulse with the frequency chirp are given by use of the numerical analysis method.  相似文献

针对强度调制直接检测波分复用系统研究了抽运探测波结构中自相位调制和交叉相位调制共同作用下的光信号传输,给出了确定任意抽运信号下的探测波时域波形及强度调制率的理论解析方法,分析了信道间隔、传输速率对于交叉相位调制的影响,发现抽运波自相位调制的作用主要体现在使探测波时域强度调制率有所增大,解析结果和数值仿真能较好地吻合。  相似文献

本文报道了利用光脉冲在10m单模光纤中传播所产生的自相位调制(SPM)、互相位调制(XPM)、群速色散(GVD)和受激喇曼散射(SRS)的共同作用,实现光脉冲光谱和时间加宽,经光栅对线性啁啾补偿后,将脉宽15ps的1.06μm光脉冲压缩至小于6ps,能量大于100nJ,压缩比>2.5。  相似文献

The modulation instability of continuous waves for a system of four coupled nonlinear Schrödinger equations, two of which are in the unstable regime, is studied. In earlier studies, plane or continuous waves for a system of two coupled, nonlinear Schrödinger equations is shown to exhibit modulation instability (MI), even if both modes are in the normal dispersion regime, provided that the coefficient of cross phase modulation (XPM) is larger than that of self phase modulation (SPM). Requirements for MI in this system of four coupled, nonlinear Schrödinger equations can be relaxed. MI can occur even if the magnitude of XPM is less than that of SPM, and the magnitude of instability is generally larger than that of each mode alone. The implications for parametric process and wavelength exchange in optical physics with two pump waves are discussed.  相似文献

We measure the cross-phase modulation (XPM) nonlinear indices of optical materials resulting from the interaction of an ultrashort pump pulse at 800 nm with a weak ultrashort probe pulse at 400 nm through the direct measurement of the optical phase change, using frequency-resolved optical gating. The materials studied include fused silica (SiO(2)) , borosilicate glass (BK-7), beta-BBO , and KD(*)P . This method results in a XPM nonlinear index that is in agreement with calculations based on nonlinear indices from previous self-phase modulation measurements.  相似文献

A pilot-based nonlinearity compensator (PB-NLC) is shown in this Letter to be an effective method for compensating cross-phase modulation (XPM) in coherent optical orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (CO-OFDM) systems. An unmodulated pilot tone is transmitted at the center of each OFDM channel to detect phase errors caused by the Kerr effect, which converts intensity fluctuations from all channels to phase errors. The pilots are then used to cancel the XPM phase errors for each OFDM channel at the receiver after each channel's self-phase modulation (SPM) has been compensated, using its intensity waveform to determine its SPM. Numerical simulations of a 58 Gb/s single polarization 2375 km system with inline dispersion compensation show that the signal quality, Q, at the optimal launch power is increased by 2.4 dB if SPM compensation is used before the PB-NLC. This contrasts with only a 0.9 dB improvement if the PB-NLC is used without an SPM compensator for the same link. This shows the PB-NLC can effectively mitigate XPM but not SPM.  相似文献

We propose a novel scheme to generate ultrawideband (UWB) monocycle pulses based on cross-phase modulation (XPM) of a semiconductor optical amplifier (SOA). The proposed system consists of a SOA and an optical bandpass filter (OBF). Due to the XPM, a continuous wave (CW) probe signal is phase modulated by another optical Gauss pulse in the SOA. The OBF will convert the phase modulation to intensity modulation. A pair of polarity-reversed UWB monocycle pulses is achieved by locating the probe carrier at the positive and negative linear slopes of the OBF. Both cases conform to the UWB definition of the Federal Communications Commission.  相似文献

We numerically study the pulse compression approaches based on atomic or molecular gases in a hollow-core fiber.From the perspective of self-phase modulation(SPM), we give the extensive study of the SPM influence on a probe pulse with molecular phase modulation(MPM) effect. By comparing the two compression methods, we summarize their advantages and drawbacks to obtain the few-cycle pulses with micro- or millijoule energies. It is also shown that the double pump-probe approach can be used as a tunable dual-color source by adjusting the time delay between pump and probe pulses to proper values.  相似文献

实验研究了超高速时分复用信号与探测光同向传输,在色散平坦高非线性光子晶体光纤中的交叉相位调制光谱展宽特性,从光谱学的角度分析了信号光波长漂移,泵浦光与信号光总功率及功率比,二者偏振态失配对交叉相位调制光谱展宽效应的影响,探讨了实现偏振不敏感交叉相位调制效应的可行性。研究发现,在36 nm波长范围,总功率大于23 dBm,泵浦光与信号光功率比合理,二者偏振态匹配时交叉相位调制效果最好,交叉相位调制的偏振相关性为11 dB,指出利用色散平坦高非线性光子晶体光纤中的残余双折射,调节泵浦光与光纤双折射主轴成45°,可以实现偏振不敏感交叉相位调制效应,随后的理论模拟和实验结果相一致。研究结果为实现基于交叉相位调制原理工作的超快全光信号处理器件作了充分准备。  相似文献

采用主动锁模光纤激光器输出的重复频率10GHz、脉宽7.97ps的脉冲作为抽运光源,无需压缩后直接抽运4.2km的普通色散位移光纤(DSF).利用色散位移光纤中自相位调制、交叉相位调制等非线性效应的联合作用,获得了20dB带宽达125nm、覆盖整个C波段、L波段和部分S波段的超连续(SC)谱。实验研究了抽运光脉冲峰值功率和抽运波长对超连续谱宽度的影响,结果表明抽运光脉冲峰值功率越高,得到的超连续谱的带宽越宽;通过对抽运波长的优化,可以实现最大程度的超连续展宽;分析了滤波器带宽对脉冲质量的影响;利用0.4nm带宽的可调谐滤波器对从超连续谱中滤出脉冲的特性进行了研究,在超连续谱的不同波长处获得了脉宽为8.90~9.80ps、时间一带宽积为0.44~0.49的稳定的窄光脉冲。  相似文献
