The eight-vertex model is equivalent to a solid-on-solid (SOS) model, in which an integer heightl i is associated with each sitei of the square lattice. The Boltzmann weights of the model are expressed in terms of elliptic functions of period 2K, and involve a variable parameter . Here we begin by showing that the hard hexagon model is a special case of this eight-vertex SOS model, in which =K/5 and the heights are restricted to the range 1l i4. We remark that the calculation of the sublattice densities of the hard hexagon model involves the Rogers-Ramanujan and related identities. We then go on to consider a more general eight-vertex SOS model, with =K/r (r an integer) and 1l ir–1. We evaluate the local height probabilities (which are the analogs of the sublattice densities) of this model, and are automatically led to generalizations of the Rogers-Ramanujan and similar identities. The uniform nearest particle system (UNPS) is studied, which is a continuoustime Markov process with state space . The rigorous upper bound (mf) = ( – 1)/ for the order parameter 2, is given by the correlation identity and the FKG inequality. Then an improvement of this bound (mf) is shown in a similar fashion; C( – 1)/|log( – 1) for >1. Recently, Mountford proved that the critical value c=1. Combining his result and our improved bound implies that if the critical exponent exists, it is strictly greater than the mean-field value 1 in the weak sense.  相似文献

The aim of this note is to show that the affine Lie algebraA 1 (1) has a natural family , ,v of Fock representations on the spaceC[x i,y j;i andj ], parametrized by (,v) C 2. I use Israel's methods to prove new theorems of ubiquitous pathology for classical and quantum lattice systems. The main result is the following: Let be any interaction and be any translation-invariant equilibrium state for (extremal or not). Then there exists a sequence { k } of interactions converging to , having extremal (or even unique) translation-invariant equilibrium states k , such that { k } converges to . In certain situations the perturbations k – can be chosen to lie in a cone of antiferromagnetic pair interactions. I discuss the connection with results of Daniëls and van Enter, and point out an application to the one-dimensional ferromagnetic Ising model with 1/r 2 interaction (Thouless effect).  相似文献

Localised configurations of the free electromagnetic field are constructed, possessing properties of massive, spinning, relativistic particles. In an inertial frame, each configuration travels in a straight line at constant speed, less than the speed of lightc, while slowly spreading. It eventually decays into pulses of radiation travelling at speedc. Each configuration has a definite rest mass and internal angular momentum, or spin. Each can be of electric or magnetic type, according as the radial component of the magnetic or electric field vanishes in the rest frame, and each has an antiparticle. Any such configuration, of electric or magnetic type, is characterized in part by a set of labels (, 0, ,l, m), where 0 is the mean of the angular frequencies of the plane waves making up the configuration, is the variance of those frequencies, is a positive constant with dimensions of action, andl, m are angular momentum quantum numbers withl a positive integer andm an integer such that ml. We report conductivity measurements on Cu x Ti100–x and Cu x Zr100–x glasses as a function of magnetic field (0B6T) and temperature (1.5–5. At low temperatures the measured conductivity(T,B)= 0+(T)+(B,T) is compared quantitatively with the predictions of diagrammatic perturbation theories including quantum interference effects, spin-orbit scattering and electron-electron interaction. We obtain a set of characteristic fields for inelastic and spin orbit scattering from both the magnetic field and the temperature dependence of the measured (T, B). Below about 4K the Coulomb interaction determines (T) in consistence with the Hall effect, whereas quantum interference processes and spin-orbit scattering dominate the magnetic field dependence. In case of Cu x Zr100–x , (B, T) can be explained by taking into account superconducting fluctuations (Maki-Thompson and Aslamasov-Larkin parts) in addition. Superconducting fluctuations dominate the temperature dependence as well. For high magnetic fields and lower temperatures (B/T>1T/K) we find discrepancies between experiment and calculations from perturbation theory.  相似文献

The exponent of the specific heatC is determined for the pure and the site-diluted simple cubic Ising model (concentrationx=0, 0.2, 0.4 of nonmagnetic sites) by a finite-size scaling analysis of the peak value Cmax(L) for systems of linear dimensionsL=8, 16, 32, and 64. The Cmax values are obtained by the Ferrenberg-Swendsen algorithm, using Monte Carlo data from a fully-vectorized multi-spin coding program. We obtain =0.11 for x=0 and a crossover to a negative value upon dilution, with =–0.029(4) both forx=0.2 andx=0.4.  相似文献

Two-dimensional quasicrystals have generally been believed to be quasiperiodic in theXY plane and periodic in the Z direction. This is not necessarily the case. A layered material with equidistantly spaced layers and a random tiling two-dimensional quasicrystal in each layer is shown to exhibit delta-function diffraction spots even when the phason strain fields in different layers are completely uncorrelated. Surprisingly, such a Z-aperiodic quasicrystal shows true-peaks, while a more ordered Z-periodic quasicrystal shows less sharp, power-law-decaying peaks.  相似文献

In a systematic study of the transfer process to sulphur dioxide, in seven different H2 + SO2 gas mixtures, the time spectra of the muonic sulphur X-rays yield muon transfer rates to the SO2 molecule, deduced from the lifetimes of the p atoms, which agree all well with each other. The muonic oxygen time spectra show an additional structure as if p atoms of another kind were present. Reduced transfer ratesO are reproducible if one uses the model of ephemeral p atoms. The intensity ratios between the different kinds of p atoms are also discussed in the framework of this model and the one of black and white p atoms.  相似文献

We consider lattice classical ferromagnetic spin systems at high temperature (1) with nearest neighbor interactions and even single-spin distributions (ssd). Associated with each system is an imaginary time lattice quantum field theory. It is known that there is a particle of mass m–ln in the energy-momentum spectrum. If s 4–3s 22<0, where s k is the kth moment of the ssd, and is sufficiently small, we show that in the two-particle subspace there is no mass spectrum up to 2m. For >0 we show that the only mass spectrum in (m, 2m) is a bound state of mass m b=2m+ln(1–)+O(), where =(+2s 22)–1. A bound on the decay of the kernel of a Bethe–Salpeter equation is obtained and used to prove these results.  相似文献

The Kubo-Toyabe semiclassical formula, describing the time development of the polarization of a particle in zero external field at a lattice site with cubic local environment, is generalized for uniaxial site symmetry. The relaxation function and, in particular, its first moments and long time asymptotics obtained in a closed form depend on the angle between polarization and the crystalc-axis and are shown to vary sensitively with the asymmetry of the field distribution at the particular muon site. Besides the exact uniaxial variant of the Kubo-Toyabe relaxation function, an approximate simple interpolation formula is also derived, which is correct for both short times and in its long time asymptotics. The two parameters (, 1) in the uniaxial formulae can be determined by using the observed values of the second momentM 2 for two different crystal orientations.  相似文献

We present and discuss the derivation of a nonlinear nonlocal integrodifferential equation for the macroscopic time evolution of the conserved order parameter (r, t) of a binary alloy undergoing phase segregation. Our model is ad-dimensional lattice gas evolving via Kawasaki exchange with respect to the Gibbs measure for a Hamiltonian which includes both short-range (local) and long-range (nonlocal) interactions. The nonlocal part is given by a pair potential dJ(|x–y|), >0 x and y in d, in the limit 0. The macroscopic evolution is observed on the spatial scale –1 and time scale –2, i.e., the density (r, t) is the empirical average of the occupation numbers over a small macroscopic volume element centered atr=x. A rigorous derivation is presented in the case in which there is no local interaction. In a subsequent paper (Part II) we discuss the phase segregation phenomena in the model. In particular we argue that the phase boundary evolutions, arising as sharp interface limits of the family of equations derived in this paper, are the same as the ones obtained from the corresponding limits for the Cahn-Hilliard equation.  相似文献

Mechanism transitions of Self-Pumped Phase Conjugation (SPPC) with wavelength and doping concentration are observed in KTN:Fe (KTa1 –x Nb x O3:Fe with x = 0.48) crystals. The SPPC mechanism in KTN: Fe (0.4 wt. %) crystal transforms from Stimulated Photorefractive Backscattering and Four-Wave Mixing (SPB-FWM) to cat (or total internal reflection) as the wavelength increases from 514.5 nm to 620 nm. SPPC at 514.5 nm is formed with the cat mechanism in a 0.2 wt. % doped KTN:Fe crystal, while with the SPB-FWM mechanism in a 0.4 wt. % doped one. These mechanism transitions are discussed with respect to the dependence of the backscattering gain coefficient of the crystals on wavelength and doping concentration.  相似文献
