Bilocal derivations of standard operator algebras

In this paper, we shall show the following two results: (1) Let be a standard operator algebra with , if is a linear mapping on which satisfies that maps into for all , then is of the form for some in . (2) Let be a Hilbert space, if is a norm-continuous linear mapping on which satisfies that maps into for all self-adjoint projection in , then is of the form for some in .

     

Hilbert Cmodules in which all closed submodules are complemented

Let be a Calgebra. If there exists a full Hilbert module such that for each closed submodule , then is *-isomorphic to a Calgebra of (not neccesarily all) compact operators on a Hilbert space.

     

Commensurators of parabolic subgroups of Coxeter groups

Let be a Coxeter system, and let be a subset of . The subgroup of generated by is denoted by and is called a parabolic subgroup. We give the precise definition of the commensurator of a subgroup in a group. In particular, the commensurator of in is the subgroup of in such that has finite index in both and . The subgroup can be decomposed in the form where is finite and all the irreducible components of are infinite. Let be the set of in such that for all . We prove that the commensurator of is . In particular, the commensurator of a parabolic subgroup is a parabolic subgroup, and is its own commensurator if and only if .

     

Noncommutative spaces

Let be a von Neumann algebra with a faithful, finite, normal tracial state , and let be a finite, maximal subdiagonal algebra of . Let be the closure of in the noncommutative Lebesgue space . Then possesses several of the properties of the classical Hardy space on the circle, including a commutant lifting theorem, some results on Toeplitz operators, an factorization theorem, Nehari's Theorem, and harmonic conjugates which are bounded.

     

On normal solvability of the Riemann problem with singular coefficient

Suppose is a singular matrix function on a simple, closed, rectifiable contour . We present a necessary and sufficient condition for normal solvability of the Riemann problem with coefficient in the case where admits a spectral (or generalized Wiener-Hopf) factorization with essentially bounded. The boundedness of is not required when takes injective values a.e. on .

     

On Bernstein-Sato polynomials

We show that for fixed and the set of Bernstein-Sato polynomials of all the polynomials in at most variables of degrees at most is finite. As a corollary, we show that there exists an integer depending only on and such that generates as a module over the ring of the -linear differential operators of , where is an arbitrary field of characteristic 0, is the ring of polynomials in variables over and is an arbitrary non-zero polynomial of degree at most .

     

Group algebras whose units satisfy a group identity

Let be the group algebra of a torsion group over an infinite field . Let be the group of units of . We prove that if satisfies a group identity, then satisfies a polynomial identity. This confirms a conjecture of Brian Hartley.

     

A commutativity theorem for semibounded operators in hilbert space

Let and be semibounded (bounded from below) operators in a Hilbert space and a dense linear manifold contained in the domains of , , , and , and such that for all in . It is shown that if the restriction of to is essentially self-adjoint, then and are essentially self-adjoint and and commute, i.e. their spectral projections permute.

     

A Strict Version of the Non-commutative Urysohn Lemma

Given a pair , of -commuting, hereditary -subalgebras of a unital -algebra , such that is -unital and , there is an element in , with , such that is strictly positive in and is strictly positive in in . Moreover, is strictly positive in in .

     

Continuous Fell bundles associated to measurable twisted actions

Given a twisted action of a second-countable, locally compact group on a separable -algebra , we prove the existence of a topology on making it a Fell bundle, whose cross sectional -algebra is isomorphic to the Busby-Smith-Packer-Raeburn crossed product.
