Traps for reflected Brownian motion

Consider an open set , d ≥ 2, and a closed ball . Let denote the expectation of the hitting time of B for reflected Brownian motion in D starting from x ∈ D. We say that D is a trap domain if . A domain D is not a trap domain if and only if the reflecting Brownian motion in D is uniformly ergodic. We fully characterize the simply connected planar trap domains using a geometric condition and give a number of (less complete) results for d > 2. On the existence of a crepant resolution of some moduli spaces of sheaves on an abelian surface

Let J be an abelian surface with a generic ample line bundle . For n≥1, the moduli space M_J(2,0,2n) of (1)-semistable sheaves F of rank 2 with Chern classes c₁(F)=0, c₂(F)=2n is a singular projective variety, endowed with a holomorphic symplectic structure on the smooth locus. In this paper, we show that there does not exist a crepant resolution of M_J(2,0,2n) for n≥2. This certainly implies that there is no symplectic desingularization of M_J(2,0,2n) for n≥2. Density results for the <Emphasis Type="Italic">W</Emphasis><Superscript>1/2</Superscript> energy of maps into a manifold

We show that maps from Bⁿ to a smooth compact boundaryless manifold which are smooth out of a singular set of dimension n−2 are dense for the strong topology in W^1/2(Bⁿ,). We also prove that for n≥2 smooth maps from Bⁿ to are dense in W^1/2(Bⁿ,) if and only if π₁()=0, i.e. the first homotopy group of is trivial.     

Spectral multipliers for sub-Laplacians with drift on Lie groups

We study spectral multipliers of right invariant sub-Laplacians with drift on a connected Lie group G. The operators we consider are self-adjoint with respect to a positive measure , whose density with respect to the left Haar measure λ_G is a nontrivial positive character of G. We show that if p≠2 and G is amenable, then every spectral multiplier of extends to a bounded holomorphic function on a parabolic region in the complex plane, which depends on p and on the drift. When G is of polynomial growth we show that this necessary condition is nearly sufficient, by proving that bounded holomorphic functions on the appropriate parabolic region which satisfy mild regularity conditions on its boundary are spectral multipliers of . Global -homotopy with <Emphasis Type="Italic">C</Emphasis><Superscript><Emphasis Type="Italic">k</Emphasis></Superscript> estimates for a family of compact,regular <Emphasis Type="Italic">q</Emphasis>-pseudoconcave CR manifolds

Let M₀ be a compact, regular q-pseudoconcave CR submanifold of a complex manifold G and - a holomorphic vector bundle on G such that dim for some fixed r<q. Courbes nodales et ramification sauvage virtuelle

Let S be the spectrum of a discrete valuation ring of residue characteristic p>0. Let Z be a scheme separated and of finite type over S, and denote by K_c(Z,) (l≠p) the Grothendieck group of -constructible sheaves on the etale site of Z. In this article, we introduce the subgroup of virtual sheaves with virtual wild ramification zero, and we prove that this subgroup is preserved by the formalism of six operations “à la Grothendieck”.     

Motivic cohomology over Dedekind rings

We study properties of Blochs higher Chow groups on smooth varieties over Dedekind rings. We prove the vanishing of for i > n, and the existence of a Gersten resolution for if the residue characteristic is p. We also show that the Bloch-Kato conjecture implies the Beilinson-Lichtenbaum conjecture an identification for m invertible, and a Gersten resolution with (arbitrary) finite coefficients. Over a complete discrete valuation ring of mixed characteristic (0,p), we construct a map from motivic cohomology to syntomic cohomology, which is a quasi-isomorphism provided the Bloch-Kato conjecture holds.Supported in part by JSPS, NSF Grant. Compactifications of contractible affine 3-folds into smooth Fano 3-folds with <Emphasis Type="Italic">B</Emphasis><Subscript>2</Subscript>=2

After the contributions of Furushima, Nakayama, Peternell and Schneider, in 1993, Furushima [Fur93] finally succeeded in the classification of the compactifications of the affine 3-space into smooth Fano 3-folds with B₂=1. In this paper, we consider the compactifications of the contractible affine 3-folds X (not necessarily X=) into smooth Fano 3-folds V with B₂=2. Consequently, we classify all such compactifications X↪(V,D₁∪D₂) in the case where K_V+D₁+D₂ is not nef. Furthermore, we see that infinitely many mutually non-isomorphic exotic 's can be compactified into Fano 3-folds with B₂=2. This phenomenon never occurs when B₂=1. Composition factors of Kac modules for the general linear Lie superalgebras

The composition factors of Kac modules for the general linear Lie superalgebras are explicitly determined. In particular, a conjecture of Hughes, King and van der Jeugt in [J. Math. Phys. 33 (1992), 470–491] is proved.     

H-spaces analogous to E 8mod 3
