In this paper we analyse the role which the pressure function on the sea-bed plays in determining solitary waves with vorticity. We prove that the pressure function on the flat bed determines a unique, real analytic solitary wave solution to the governing equations, given a real analytic vorticity distribution. In particular, the pressure function on the flat bed prescribes a unique surface profile for the resulting solitary water wave.  相似文献

The propagation of surface water waves in a frictional channel with a uniformly inclined bed is governed by a two-dimensional shallow river model. In this paper, we consider the time-asymptotic stability of weak planar travelling waves for a two-dimensional shallow river model with Darcy's law. We derive an effective parabolic equation to analyze the wave front motion. By employing weighted energy estimates, we show that weak planar travelling waves are time-asymptotically stable under sufficiently small perturbations.  相似文献

In this paper, we investigate steady equatorial flows beneath solitary water waves subject to the Coriolis effect, which propagate over a flat bed. In particular, we focus on irrotational flows and present some properties of velocity field, behavior of the pressure and the extrema of the dynamic pressure. In addition, we provide some estimates for the elevation of wave from pressure measurements at an arbitrary intermediate depth. The analysis is based on the maximum principles.  相似文献

本文采用多重尺度法分析了具有缓慢调制的波列在多孔海床上的演化问题.海床上部波浪采用了势流理论,海床下部的渗流采用了Darcy定律.两者在海床面上进行衔接,从而导出了上部波浪的波幅一阶和二阶的调制方程,并求出了相应的解,下部渗压场的解亦同时给出.  相似文献

Hospital inpatient bed capacity might be better described as evolved than planned. At least two challenges lead to this behaviour: different views of patient demand implied by different data sets in a hospital and limited use of scientific methods for capacity estimation. In this paper, we statistically examine four distinct hospital inpatient data sets for internal consistency and potential usefulness for estimating true patient bed demand. We conclude that posterior financial data, billing data, rather than the census data commonly relied upon, yields true hospital bed demand. Subsequently, a capacity planning tool, based upon queuing theory and financial data only, is developed. The delivery mechanism is an Excel spreadsheet. One adjusts input parameters including patient volume and mix and instantaneously monitors the effect on bed needs across multiple levels of care. A case study from a major hospital in Phoenix, Arizona, USA is used throughout to demonstrate the methodologies.  相似文献

We provide high-order approximations to periodic travelling wave profiles, through a novel expansion which incorporates the variation of the total mechanical energy of the water wave. We show that these approximations are extended to any finite order. Moreover, we provide the velocity field and the pressure beneath the waves, in flows with constant vorticity over a flat bed.  相似文献

This paper deals with the exact solution of surface gravity waves in an ocean with irregular bed topography. In order to obtain water surface elevation and run-up of infra-gravity waves when the bed is either wavy or exponential, closed form solutions are obtained. Numerical computations indicate that when solitary wave or sinusoidal wave conditions are applied at the boundary, water surface elevation attains near Gaussian profile.  相似文献

In this paper we develop a simulation model to study bed occupancy levels in an Intensive Care Unit (ICU). The main contributions of this study are: (1) A proposal for generalized regression models to fully capture the high variability of patients’ length of stay; (2) Proof that a simulation model that does not incorporate the management decisions by clinical staff cannot be considered valid; (3) The development of a mathematical model to represent these management decisions, and (4) A proposal for a method combining optimization with simulation to estimate the model parameters. This provides a valid simulation model that includes the physician management of an ICU. Validation is accomplished by comparing distribution patterns in daily bed occupancy records against simulated bed occupancy data. The methodology is tested using data provided by the Hospital of Navarre in Spain.  相似文献

The problem of stabilized plane capillary-gravitational waves of finite amplitude at the surface of a stream of perfect incompressible fluid flowing over an undulating bed and subjected to pressure periodically distributed along the surface and defined by some infinite trigonometric series is considered. The intersection of the bed with a vertical plane is assumed to be a periodic curve, called the bed line, defined by some infinite trigonometric series. The problem is rigorously formulated and reduced to the solution of a system of nonlinear integral and transcendental equations. The solution is constructed in the form of series in powers of a small dimensionless parameter to which amplitudes of the first harmonics of the bed line and of the surface pressure wave are proportional. An approximate equation is derived for the wave profile.The particular case is considered, when the length of the bed line wave arc is equal to the length of the stabilized free wave line corresponding to the specified flow velocity over a horizontal flat bed and constant pressure along the surface. In such case the parameter of the integral equation is equal to one of the eigenvalues of the kernel of that equation and the solution is constructed in the form of series in powers of the cube root of the small parameter mentioned above.A similar problem but for constant pressure along the surface was considered by the author in [1, 2] and in his paper presented at the 13-th International Congress on Theoretical and Applied Mechanics (Moscow, 1972 [3]).Another similar problem of capillary-gravitational waves over an undulating bed was considered in [4], where besides the topological proof of the existence and uniqueness of solution the algorithm for constructing the latter is given, but the calculation of approximations is only outlined and the mechanical meaning of solution is not investigated in depth.Unlike in [4] the equation of the bed line and the expression for pressure at the surface are specified here in a form which makes it possible to express any approximations in the form of finite sums, and an analysis of the fundamental system of nonlinear integral and transcendental equations by the LiapunovSchmidt analytical methods and their developments is presented.  相似文献

We consider the large time asymptotic behavior of the global solutions to the initial value problem for the nonlinear damped wave equation with slowly decaying initial data. When the initial data decay fast enough, it is known that the solution to this problem converges to the self-similar solution to the Burgers equation called a nonlinear diffusion wave, and its optimal asymptotic rate is obtained. In this paper, we focus on the case that the initial data decay more slowly than previous works and derive the corresponding asymptotic profile. Moreover, we investigate how the change of the decay rate of the initial values affect its asymptotic rate.  相似文献

In this paper, we show that certain local Strichartz estimates for solutions of the wave equation exterior to a convex obstacle can be extended to estimates that are global in both space and time. This extends the work that was done previously by H. Smith and C. Sogge in odd spatial dimensions. In order to prove the global estimates, we explore weighted Strichartz estimates for solutions of the wave equation when the Cauchy data and forcing term are compactly supported.

In this paper, we study the stability of a system of wave equations which are weakly coupled and partially damped. Using a frequency domain approach based on the growth of the resolvent on the imaginary axis, we establish the polynomial energy decay rate for smooth initial data. We show that the behavior of the system is sensitive to the arithmetic property of the ratio of the wave propagation speeds of the two equations.  相似文献

Analyzing a free boundary problem for harmonic functions we show that there are no closed particle paths in an irrotational inviscid traveling wave propagating at the surface of water over a flat bed: within a period each particle experiences a backward-forward motion with a slight forward drift. In this paper we consider the initial boundary value problem for a class of logarithmic wave equation. By constructing an appropriate Lyapunov function, we obtain the decay estimates of energy for the logarithmic wave equation with linear damping and some suitable initial data. In this paper, we consider the problem with a gas–gas free boundary for the one dimensional isentropic compressible Navier–Stokes–Korteweg system. For shock wave, asymptotic profile of the problem is shown to be a shifted viscous shock profile, which is suitably away from the boundary, and prove that if the initial data around the shifted viscous shock profile and its strength are sufficiently small, then the problem has a unique global strong solution, which tends to the shifted viscous shock profile as time goes to infinity. Also, we show the asymptotic stability toward rarefaction wave without the smallness on the strength if the initial data around the rarefaction wave are sufficiently small.  相似文献

Realistic representation of the earth may be achieved by combining the mechanical properties of elastic solids and viscous liquids. That is to say, the amplitude will be attenuated with different frequency and the phase will be changed in the seismic data acquisition. In the seismic data processing, this effect must be compensated. In this paper, we put forward a visco-acoustic wave propagator which is of better calculating stability and tolerable calculating cost (little more than an acoustic wave propagator). The quite good compensation effect is demonstrated by the numerical test results with synthetic seismic data and real data.  相似文献

In this article, we study the large-time asymptotic behaviour of contact wave for the Cauchy problem of one-dimensional compressible Navier–Stokes equations with zero viscosity. When the Riemann problem for the Euler system admits a contact discontinuity solution, we can construct a contact wave, which approximates the contact discontinuity on any finite-time interval for small heat conduction and then runs away from it for large time, and prove that it is nonlinearly stable provided that the strength of contact discontinuity and the perturbation of the initial data are suitably small.  相似文献
