Real closed rings arise in semi-algebraic geometry and topology as well as in the investigation of partially ordered rings. It is shown that localizations of real closed rings with respect to Gabriel filters, or more generally: multiplicative filters, are again real closed. Thus, real closedness is preserved under a large number of important ring theoretic constructions. For a few particularly simple cases the multiplicative filters are classified and the localizations are determined. Received: August 26, 1996  相似文献

We prove that every convexly ordered valuation ring has a unique completion as a uniform space, which furthermore is a convexly ordered valuation ring. In addition, we give a model theoretic characterisation of complete convexly ordered valuation rings, and give a necessary and sufficient condition for the completion of a convexly ordered valuation ring to be a real closed ring. We recall the characterisation of positive definite polynomial functions over a real closed ring due to Dickmann, and give a new proof of this result, based upon ideas of Abraham Robinson. Let V be an henselian discrete valuation ring with real closed residue field and let k be its quotient ring; we denote by k + and k the two real closures of k. Consider a k-abelian variety A. We compute the Galois-cohomology group H 1(k,A) in terms of the reduction of the dual variety of A and of the semi-algebraic topology of A(k +) and A(k ). The tools we need are Ogg's results concerning valuation rings with algebraically closed residue field, Hochschild–Serre spectral sequence and Scheiderer's local-global principles. Some recent results of Ayache on going-down domains and extensions of domains that either are residually algebraic or have DCC on intermediate rings are generalized to the context of extensions of commutative rings. Given a finite maximal chain 𝒞 of R-subalgebras of a weak Baer ring T, it is shown how a “min morphism” hypothesis can be used to transfer the “going-down ring” property from R to each member of 𝒞. The integral minimal ring extensions which are min morphisms are classified. The ring extensions satisfying FCP (i.e., for which each chain of intermediate rings is finite) are characterized as the strongly affine extensions with DCC on intermediate rings. In the relatively integrally closed case, such extensions R ? T induce open immersions Spec(S) → Spec(R) for each R-subalgebra S of T.  相似文献

A chain condition intermediate to the catenary property and the chain condition for prime ideals (c.c.) is studied. Like the c.c., the condition is inherited from a semi-local domain R by integral extension domains, by local quotient domains, and by factor domains, and a semi-local ring that satisfies the condition is catenary. (Unlike the c.c., none of these statements is true when R is not semi-local.) A number of characterizations of a semi-local domain that satisfies the condition are given in terms of: integral (respectively, algebraic, transcendental) extension domains, Henselizations, completions, Rees rings, associated graded rings and certain discrete valuation over-rings. Then four of the catenary chain conjectures are characterized in terms of this condition.  相似文献

It is proved that a commutative ring is clean if and only if it is Gelfand with a totally disconnected maximal spectrum. It is shown that each indecomposable module over a commutative ring R satisfies a finite condition if and only if R P is an Artinian valuation ring for each maximal prime ideal P. Commutative rings for which each indecomposable module has a local endomorphism ring are studied. These rings are clean and elementary divisor rings. It is shown that each commutative ring R with a Hausdorff and totally disconnected maximal spectrum is local-global. Moreover, if R is arithmetic, then R is an elementary divisor ring.  相似文献

We study the class of integrally closed domains having a unique Kronecker function ring, or equivalently, domains in which the completion (or b-operation) is the only e.a.b star operation of finite type. Such domains are a generalization of Prüfer domains and have fairly simple sets of valuation overrings. We give characterizations by studying valuation overrings and integral closure of finitely generated ideals. We provide new examples of such domains and show that for several well-known classes of integral domains the property of having a unique Kronecker function ring makes them fall into the class of Prüfer domains.  相似文献

We define and study a notion of ring of formal power series with exponents in a cyclically ordered group. Such a ring is a quotient of various subrings of classical formal power series rings. It carries a two variable valuation function. In the particular case where the cyclically ordered group is actually totally ordered, our notion of formal power series is equivalent to the classical one in a language enriched with a predicate interpreted by the set of all monomials.Received: 24 February 2003  相似文献

In the present paper, we examine the ways in which rings of sets can be generated by as simple systems as possible. We investigate rings of sets which can be generated by totally ordered subsystems. All totally ordered systems which generate the same ring are, in essence, isomorphic. This fact leads to an order-theoretic classification of rings of sets. Every group-valued mapping defined on a totally ordered system of sets can be uniquely extended to an additive mapping on the ring of sets generated by the system. Two rings of sets are of the same order type if and only if the corresponding spaces of measures are isomorphic.  相似文献

In this paper we extend the notion of almost valuation and almost Bézout domains to arbitrary commutative rings, and we investigate the transfer of these properties to trivial ring extensions and amalgamated algebras along an ideal. Our aim is to provide new classes of commutative rings satisfying these properties. As an immediate consequence, we show the failure of Anderson–Zafrullah's theorem on the integral closure of an almost valuation domain beyond the context of integral domains.  相似文献

We give necessary and sufficient conditions that the pullback of a conductor square be a chain ring (i.e., a ring whose ideals are totally ordered by inclusion). We also give necessary and sufficient conditions that the pullback of a conductor square be an arithmetical ring (i.e., a ring which is locally a chain ring at every maximal ideal). For any integral domain D with field of fractions K, we characterize all Prüfer domains R between D[X] and K[X] such that the conductor C of K[X] into R is nonzero. As an application, we show that for n ≥ 2, such a ring R has the n-generator property (every finitely generated ideal can be generated by n elements) if and only if R/C has the same property.  相似文献

Lattice orders on the semigroup ring of a positive rooted monoid are constructed, and it is shown how to make the monoid ring into a lattice-ordered ring with squares positive in various ways. It is proved that under certain conditions these are all of the lattice orders that make the monoid ring into a lattice-ordered ring. In particular, all of the partial orders on the polynomial ring A[x] in one positive variable are determined for which the ring is not totally ordered but is a lattice-ordered ring with the property that the square of every element is positive. In the last section some basic properties of d-elements are considered, and they are used to characterize lattice-ordered division rings that are quadratic extensions of totally ordered division rings.  相似文献

It is shown that certain partially ordered rings, defined by some of the properties of the totally ordered ring of integers, are exactly the bounded Z-rings, that is, the commutative f-rings with strong singular unit. The partially ordered rings in question amount to a discrete version of the rings introduced by M.H. Stone for his abstract characterization of the rings of real-valued continuous functions on compact Hausdorff spaces, and the function rings they correspond to are given by the integer-valued continuous functions on Boolean spaces.  相似文献

For a monoid M, we introduce M-quasi-Armendariz rings which are a generalization of quasi-Armendariz rings, and investigate their properties. The M-quasi-Armendariz condition is a Morita invariant property. The class of M-quasi-Armendariz rings is closed under some kinds of upper triangular matrix rings. Every semiprime ring is M-quasi-Armendariz for any unique product monoid and any strictly totally ordered monoid M. Moreover, we study the relationship between the quasi-Baer property of a ring R and those of the monoid ring R[M]. In this note we study finite intersections of henselian valued fields, i.e. fields carrying either a henselian valuation ring or a henselian absolute value which is (real-) archimedean. To be more precise, we intersect a finite number of henselian valued respectively real closed fields such that the induced valuation rings respectively orderings generate different V-topologies on the intersection, and investigate its algebraic and valuation-theoretic properties.  相似文献

Let R be a ring whose total ring of quotients Q is von Neumann regular. We investigate the structure of R when it admits an ideal that is irreducible as a submodule of the total ring of quotients. We characterize those rings which contain a maximal ideal that is irreducible in its total ring of quotients Q. An integral domain has a Q-irreducible ideal which is a maximal ideal if and only if R is a valuation domain. We show that when the total ring of quotients of R is von Neumann regular, then having a maximal ideal that is Q-irreducible is equivalently to certain valuation like properties, including the property that the regular ideals are linearly ordered.  相似文献
