The smallest degree sum that yields potentially Kr,r-graphic sequences   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2
We consider a variation of a classical Turán-type extremal problem as follows: Determine the smallest even integer σ(Kr,r, n) such that every n-term graphic sequence π = (d1, d2,..., dn) with term sum σ(π) = d1 + d2 +…+ dn ≥σ(Kr,r, n) is potentially Kr,r-graphic, where Kr,r is an r × r complete bipartite graph, i.e. πr has a realization G containing Kr,r as its subgraph. In this paper, the values σ(Kr,r,n) for even r and n ≥ 4r2 - r - 6 and for odd r and n ≥ 4r2 + 3r - 8 are determined.  相似文献

Let r≥ 1, k≥ 2 and Fm1 ,...,mki;r denote the most general definition of a friendship graph, that is, the graph of Kr+m1 , . . . , Kr+mk meeting in a common r set, where Kr+mi is the complete graph on r + mi vertices. Clearly, | Fm1 ,...,mki;r | = m1+ ··· + mk + r. Let σ(Fm1 ,...,mki;r , n) be the smallest even integer such that every n-term graphic sequence π = (d1, d2, . . . , dn) with term sum σ(π) = d1 + d2 + ··· + dn ≥σ(Fm1 ,...,mki;r,n) has a realization G containing Fm1 ,...,mki;r as a subgraph. In this paper, we determine σ(Fm1 ,...,mki;r,n) for n sufficiently large.  相似文献

Let n 〉 r, let lr --- (dl,d2,-,dn) be a non-increasing sequence of nonnegative integers and let Kr+l - e be the graph obtained from Kr+l by deleting one edge. If zr has a realization G containing Kr+l - e as a subgraph, then r is said to be potentially Kr+l - e-graphic. In this paper, we give a characterization for a sequence π to be potentially Kr+l - e-graphic.  相似文献

Let σ(k, n) be the smallest even integer such that each n-term positive graphic sequence with term sum at least σ(k, n) can be realized by a graph containing a clique of k + 1 vertices. Erdos et al. (Graph Theory, 1991, 439-449) conjectured that σ(k, n) = (k - 1)(2n- k) + 2. Li et al. (Science in China, 1998, 510-520) proved that the conjecture is true for k 〉 5 and n ≥ (k2) + 3, and raised the problem of determining the smallest integer N(k) such that the conjecture holds for n ≥ N(k). They also determined the values of N(k) for 2 ≤ k ≤ 7, and proved that [5k-1/2] ≤ N(k) ≤ (k2) + 3 for k ≥ 8. In this paper, we determine the exact values of σ(k, n) for n ≥ 2k+3 and k ≥ 6. Therefore, the problem of determining σ(k, n) is completely solved. In addition, we prove as a corollary that N(k) -= [5k-1/2] for k ≥6.  相似文献

An invariant σ2(G) of a graph is defined as follows: σ2(G) := min{d(u) + d(v)|u, v ∈V(G),uv ∈ E(G),u ≠ v} is the minimum degree sum of nonadjacent vertices (when G is a complete graph, we define σ2(G) = ∞). Let k, s be integers with k ≥ 2 and s ≥ 4, G be a graph of order n sufficiently large compared with s and k. We show that if σ2(G) ≥ n + k- 1, then for any set of k independent vertices v1,..., vk, G has k vertex-disjoint cycles C1,..., Ck such that |Ci| ≤ s and vi ∈ V(Ci) for all 1 ≤ i ≤ k.
The condition of degree sum σs(G) ≥ n + k - 1 is sharp.  相似文献

The cycle length distribution of a graph G of order n is a sequence (c1 (G),…, cn (G)), where ci (G) is the number of cycles of length i in G. In general, the graphs with cycle length distribution (c1(G) ,…,cn(G)) are not unique. A graph G is determined by its cycle length distribution if the graph with cycle length distribution (c1 (G),…, cn (G)) is unique. Let Kn,n+r be a complete bipartite graph and A lohtaib in E(Kn,n+r). In this paper, we obtain: Let s 〉 1 be an integer. (1) If r = 2s, n 〉 s(s - 1) + 2|A|, then Kn,n+r - A (A lohtain in E(Kn,n+r),|A| ≤ 3) is determined by its cycle length distribution; (2) If r = 2s + 1,n 〉 s^2 + 2|A|, Kn,n+r - A (A lohtain in E(Kn,n+r), |A| ≤3) is determined by its cycle length distribution.  相似文献

The h-super connectivity κh and the h-super edge-connectivity λh are more refined network reliability indices than the conneetivity and the edge-connectivity. This paper shows that for a connected balanced digraph D and its line digraph L, if D is optimally super edge-connected, then κ1(L) = 2λ1 (D), and that for a connected graph G and its line graph L, if one of κ1 (L) and λ(G) exists, then κ1(L) = λ2(G). This paper determines that κ1(B(d, n) is equal to 4d- 8 for n = 2 and d ≥ 4, and to 4d-4 for n ≥ 3 and d ≥ 3, and that κ1(K(d, n)) is equal to 4d- 4 for d 〉 2 and n ≥ 2 except K(2, 2). It then follows that B(d,n) and K(d, n) are both super connected for any d ≥ 2 and n ≥ 1.  相似文献

Let G be an arbitrary spanning subgraph of the complete graph Kr+1 on r+1 vertices and Kr+1-E(G) be the graph obtained from Kr+1 by deleting all edges of G.A non-increasing sequence π=(d1,d2,...,dn) of nonnegative integers is said to be potentially Kr+1-E(G)-graphic if there is a graph on n vertices that has π as its degree sequence and contains Kr+1-E(G) as a subgraph.In this paper,a characterization of π that is potentially Kr+1-E(G)-graphic is given,which is analogous to the Erdo s–Gallai characterization of graphic sequences using a system of inequalities.This is a solution to an open problem due to Lai and Hu.As a corollary,a characterization of π that is potentially Ks,tgraphic can also be obtained,where Ks,t is the complete bipartite graph with partite sets of size s and t.This is a solution to an open problem due to Li and Yin.  相似文献

A graph G is close to regular or more precisely a (d, d + k)-graph, if the degree of each vertex of G is between d and d + k. Let d ≥ 2 be an integer, and let G be a connected bipartite (d, d+k)-graph with partite sets X and Y such that |X|- |Y|+1. If G is of order n without an almost perfect matching, then we show in this paper that·n ≥ 6d +7 when k = 1,·n ≥ 4d+ 5 when k = 2,·n ≥ 4d+3 when k≥3.Examples will demonstrate that the given bounds on the order of G are the best possible.  相似文献

For given a graph H, a graphic sequence π = (d 1, d 2,..., d n) is said to be potentially H-graphic if there is a realization of π containing H as a subgraph. In this paper, we characterize the potentially (K 5e)-positive graphic sequences and give two simple necessary and sufficient conditions for a positive graphic sequence π to be potentially K 5-graphic, where K r is a complete graph on r vertices and K r-e is a graph obtained from K r by deleting one edge. Moreover, we also give a simple necessary and sufficient condition for a positive graphic sequence π to be potentially K 6-graphic. An integer sequence π is said to be graphic if it is the degree sequence of some simple graph G. In this case we say that G is a realization of π. Given a graph H, and a graphic sequence π we say that π is potentially H-graphic if there is some realization of π that contains H as a subgraph. We define σ(H,n) to be the minimum even integer such that every graphic sequence with sum at least σ(H,n) is potentially H-graphic. In this paper, we determine σ(H,n) for the graph H = Km1Km2∪...∪ Kmk when n is a sufficiently large integer. This is accomplished by determining σ(Kj + kK2,n) where j and k are arbitrary positive integers, and considering the case where j = m − 2k and m = ∑ mi.  相似文献

Let r ≥ 3, nr and π = (d 1, d 2, ..., d n ) be a non-increasing sequence of nonnegative integers. If π has a realization G with vertex set V (G) = {v 1, v 2, ..., v n } such that d G (v i ) = d i for i = 1, 2, ..., n and v 1 v 2 ... v r v 1 is a cycle of length r in G, then π is said to be potentially C r ″-graphic. A variation in the classical Turan extrernal problem is studied. A simple graphG of ordern is said to have propertyPk if it contains a clique of sizek+1 as its subgraph. Ann-term nonincreasing nonnegative integer sequence π=(d1, d2,⋯, d2) is said to be graphic if it is the degree sequence of a simple graphG of ordern and such a graphG is referred to as a realization of π. A graphic sequence π is said to be potentiallyP k-graphic if it has a realizationG having propertyP k . The problem: determine the smallest positive even number σ(k, n) such that everyn-term graphic sequence π=(d1, d2,…, d2) without zero terms and with degree sum σ(π)=(d 1+d 2+ …+d 2) at least σ(k,n) is potentially Pk-graphic has been proved positive. A Variation of an Extremal Theorem Due to Woodall   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
We consider a variation of an extremal theorem due to Woodall [12, or 1, Chapter 3] as follows: Determine the smallest even integer (3C1,n), such that every n-term graphic sequence = (d1, d2,..., dn) with term sum () = d1 + d2 + ... + dn (3C1,n) has a realization G containing a cycle of length r for each r = 3,4,...,l. In this paper, the values of (3Cl,n) are determined for l = 2m – 1,n 3m – 4 and for l = 2m,n 5m – 7, where m 4.AMS Mathematics subject classification (1991) 05C35Project supported by the National Natural Science Foundation of China (Grant No. 19971086) and the Doctoral Program Foundation of National Education Department of China  相似文献

Asymptotic Upper Bounds for Ramsey Functions   总被引:5,自引:0,他引:5
 We show that for any graph G with N vertices and average degree d, if the average degree of any neighborhood induced subgraph is at most a, then the independence number of G is at least Nf a +1(d), where f a +1(d)=∫0 1(((1−t)1/( a +1))/(a+1+(da−1)t))dt. Based on this result, we prove that for any fixed k and l, there holds r(K k + l ,K n )≤ (l+o(1))n k /(logn) k −1. In particular, r(K k , K n )≤(1+o(1))n k −1/(log n) k −2. An (n, d, k)-mapping f is a mapping from binary vectors of length n to permutations of length n + k such that for all x, y {0,1}n, dH (f(x), f(y)) ≥ dH (x, y) + d, if dH (x, y) ≤ (n + k) − d and dH (f(x), f(y)) = n + k, if dH (x, y) > (n + k) − d. In this paper, we construct an (n,3,2)-mapping for any positive integer n ≥ 6. An (n, r)-permutation array is a permutation array of length n and any two permutations of which have Hamming distance at least r. Let P(n, r) denote the maximum size of an (n, r)-permutation array and A(n, r) denote the same setting for binary codes. Applying (n,3,2)-mappings to the design of permutation array, we can construct an efficient permutation array (easy to encode and decode) with better code rate than previous results [Chang (2005). IEEE Trans inf theory 51:359–365, Chang et al. (2003). IEEE Trans Inf Theory 49:1054–1059; Huang et al. (submitted)]. More precisely, we obtain that, for n ≥ 8, P(n, r) ≥ A(n − 2, r − 3) > A(n − 1,r − 2) = A(n, r − 1) when n is even and P(n, r) ≥ A(n − 2, r − 3) = A(n − 1, r − 2) > A(n, r − 1) when n is odd. This improves the best bound A(n − 1,r − 2) so far [Huang et al. (submitted)] for n ≥ 8. Let Γ denote a distance-regular graph with diameter d≥3. By a parallelogram of length 3, we mean a 4-tuple xyzw consisting of vertices of Γ such that (x,y)=(z,w)=1, (x,z)=3, and (x,w)=(y,w)=(y,z)=2, where denotes the path-length distance function. Assume that Γ has intersection numbers a 1=0 and a 2≠0. We prove that the following (i) and (ii) are equivalent. (i) Γ is Q-polynomial and contains no parallelograms of length 3; (ii) Γ has classical parameters (d,b,α,β) with b<−1. Furthermore, suppose that (i) and (ii) hold. We show that each of b(b+1)2(b+2)/c 2, (b−2)(b−1)b(b+1)/(2+2bc 2) is an integer and that c 2b(b+1). This upper bound for c 2 is optimal, since the Hermitian forms graph Her2(d) is a triangle-free distance-regular graph that satisfies c 2=b(b+1).
