In this article, local unique continuation on a line for solutions of the Helmholtz equation is discussed. The fundamental solution of the exterior problem for the Helmholtz equation have a logarithmic singularity which behaves similar to those of the interior problem for the Laplace equation in two dimension. A Hölder-type conditional stability estimate of the proposed exterior problem for the Helmholtz equation is obtained by adopting the complex extension method in Cheng and Yamamoto [J. Cheng and M. Yamamoto, Unique continuation on a line for harmonic functions, Inverse Probl. 14 (1998), pp. 869–882]. Finally, a regularization scheme based on the collocation method is compatible with the Hölder-type stability estimate provided that the line does not intersect the boundary of the domain for both the Laplace and the Helmholtz equations.  相似文献

Let be a collection of subspaces of a finite‐dimensional real vector space V. Let L denote a one‐dimensional subspace of V, and let θ(L,Vi) denote the principal angle between L and Vi. Motivated by a problem in data analysis, we seek an L that maximizes the function . Conceptually, this is the line through the origin that best represents with respect to the criterion F(L). A reformulation shows that L is spanned by a vector , which maximizes the function subject to the constraints viVi and ||vi||=1. In this setting, v is seen to be the longest vector that can be decomposed into unit vectors lying on prescribed hyperspheres. A closely related problem is to find the longest vector that can be decomposed into vectors lying on prescribed hyperellipsoids. Using Lagrange multipliers, the critical points of either problem can be cast as solutions of a multivariate eigenvalue problem. Let V be a variety of algebras. We specify a condition (the so-called generalized entropic property), which is equivalent to the fact that for every algebra AV, the set of all subalgebras of A is a subuniverse of the complex algebra of the subalgebras of A. By variational methods, for a kind of Yamabe problem whose scalar curvature vanishes in the unit ball BN and on the boundary S^N-1 the mean curvature is prescribed, we construct multi-peak solutions whose maxima are located on the boundary as the parameter tends to 0^+ under certain assumptions. Three algorithms based on the bifurcation method are applied to solving the D4 symmetric positive solutions to the boundary value problem of Henon equation. Taking r in Henon equation as a bi- furcation parameter, the D4-Σd(D4-Σ1, D4-Σ2) symmetry-breaking bifurcation points on the branch of the D4 symmetric positive solutions are found via the extended systems. Finally, Σd(Σ1, Σ2) sym- metric positive solutions are computed by the branch switching method based on the Liapunov-Schmidt reduction.  相似文献

A class of functional equations with nonlinear iterates is discussed on the unit circle T 1. By lifting maps on T 1 and maps on the torus T N to Euclidean spaces and extending their restrictions to a compact interval or cube, we prove existence, uniqueness and stability for their continuous solutions. In this paper, we propose an inexact smoothing continuation method for mathematical problem with complementarity constraints. Under suitable conditions, we establish the convergence of the proposed method by showing that any accumulation point of the generated sequence is a B-stationary point of the problem.  相似文献

Let X be one of the functional spaces W1,p ((0, ∞), ?N ) or C01 ([0, ∞), ?N ), we study the global continuation in λ for solutions (λ, u, ξ) ∈ ? × X × ?k of the following system of ordinary differential equations: where ?N = X1X2 is a given decomposition, with associated projection P: ?N X1. Under appropriate conditions upon the given functions F and φ, this problem gives rise to a nonlinear Fredholm operator which is proper on the closed bounded subsets of ? × X × ?k and whose zeros correspond to the solutions of the original problem. In our recent work, we showed that C CR-diffeomorphisms of real-analytic Levi-nonflat hypersurfaces in ?2 are not analytic in general. This result raised again the question on the nature of CR-maps of a real-analytic hypersurfaces.

In this paper, we give a complete picture of what CR-maps actually are. First, we discover an analytic continuation phenomenon for CR-diffeomorphisms which we call the sectorial analyticity property. It appears to be the optimal regularity property for CR-diffeomorphisms in general. We emphasize that such type of extension never appeared previously in the literature. Second, we introduce the class of Fuchsian type hypersurfaces and prove that (infinitesimal generators of) CR-automorphisms of a Fuchsian type hypersurface are still analytic. In particular, this solves a problem formulated earlier by Shafikov and the first author.

Finally, we prove a regularity result for formal CR-automorphisms of Fuchsian type hypersurfaces.  相似文献

In this paper, we derive some further differentiability properties of solutions to a parametric variational inequality problem defined over a polyhedral set. In this paper we introduce the notion of multivalued analytic continuation of the Cauchy transforms. Many difficulties arise because the continuation is not single-valued. Our main result asserts that if χΩ has a multivalued analytic continuation, then the free boundary ∂Ω has zero Lebesgue measure. Here χΩ is the characteristic function of a domain Ω and ∂Ω is its boundary. We also discuss the connections between this notion, quadrature domains and approximations of analytic functions with single-valued integrals by rational functions. The last problem is related to the existence of a continuous function g and a closed connected set K such that the gradient of g vanishes on K, nevertheless g is not constant on K. We consider the inverse problem of simultaneously determining two time-dependent thermophysical characteristics—the coefficient of thermal conductivity and the heat capacity per unit volume—for a body having the shape of a layer situated between two other layers with known thermophysical characteristics. The necessary measurements are carried out on their outside boundaries. The problem is reduced to a system of nonlinear equations for which the existence of a solution is established by using Schauder's fixed-point theorem. Goldfarb and Hao (1990) have proposed a pivot rule for the primal network simplex algorithm that will solve a maximum flow problem on ann-vertex,m-arc network in at mostnm pivots and O(n 2 m) time. In this paper we describe how to extend the dynamic tree data structure of Sleator and Tarjan (1983, 1985) to reduce the running time of this algorithm to O(nm logn). This bound is less than a logarithmic factor larger than those of the fastest known algorithms for the problem.
