We develop the method introduced previously, to construct infinitesimal generators on locally compact group C *-algebras and on tensor product of C *-algebras. It is shown in particular that there is a C * -algebra A such that the C *-tensor product of A and an arbitrary C *-algebra B can have a non-approximately inner strongly one parameter group of *-automorphisms.  相似文献

Given anm-tempered strongly continuous action α of ℝ by continuous*-automorphisms of a Frechet*-algebraA, it is shown that the enveloping ↡-C *-algebraE(S(ℝ, A, α)) of the smooth Schwartz crossed productS(ℝ,A , α) of the Frechet algebra A of C-elements ofA is isomorphic to the Σ-C *-crossed productC *(ℝ,E(A), α) of the enveloping Σ-C *-algebraE(A) ofA by the induced action. WhenA is a hermitianQ-algebra, one getsK-theory isomorphismRK *(S(ℝ, A, α)) =K *(C *(ℝ,E(A), α) for the representableK-theory of Frechet algebras. An application to the differential structure of aC *-algebra defined by densely defined differential seminorms is given.  相似文献

UniversalC*-algebrasC*(A) exist for certain topological *-algebras called algebras with aC*-enveloping algebra. A Frechet *-algebraA has aC*-enveloping algebra if and only if every operator representation ofA mapsA into bounded operators. This is proved by showing that every unbounded operator representation π, continuous in the uniform topology, of a topological *-algebraA, which is an inverse limit of Banach *-algebras, is a direct sum of bounded operator representations, thereby factoring through the enveloping pro-C*-algebraE(A) ofA. Given aC*-dynamical system (G,A,α), any topological *-algebraB containingC c (G,A) as a dense *-subalgebra and contained in the crossed productC*-algebraC*(G,A,α) satisfiesE(B) =C*(G,A,α). IfG = ℝ, ifB is an α-invariant dense Frechet *-subalgebra ofA such thatE(B) =A, and if the action α onB ism-tempered, smooth and by continuous *-automorphisms: then the smooth Schwartz crossed productS(ℝ,B,α) satisfiesE(S(ℝ,B,α)) =C*(ℝ,A,α). WhenG is a Lie group, theC -elementsC (A), the analytic elementsC ω(A) as well as the entire analytic elementsC є(A) carry natural topologies making them algebras with aC*-enveloping algebra. Given a non-unitalC*-algebraA, an inductive system of idealsI α is constructed satisfyingA =C*-ind limI α; and the locally convex inductive limit ind limI α is anm-convex algebra with theC*-enveloping algebraA and containing the Pedersen idealK a ofA. Given generatorsG with weakly Banach admissible relationsR, we construct universal topological *-algebraA(G, R) and show that it has aC*-enveloping algebra if and only if (G, R) isC*-admissible.  相似文献

We show that the homotopy groups of the group of quasi-unitaries inC *-algebras form a homology theory on the category of allC *-algebras which becomes topologicalK-theory when stabilized. We then show how this functorial setting, in particular the half-exactness of the involved functors, helps to calculate the homotopy groups of the group of unitaries in a series ofC *-algebras. The calculations include the case of all AbelianC *-algebras and allC *-algebras of the formAB, whereA is one of the Cuntz algebras On n=2, 3, ..., an infinite dimensional simpleAF-algebra, the stable multiplier or corona algebra of a-unitalC *-algebra, a properly infinite von Neumann algebra, or one of the projectionless simpleC *-algebras constructed by Blackadar.  相似文献

A new class of locally convex algebras, called BP*-algebras, is introduced. It is shown that this class properly includes MQ*-algebras which were introduced and studied by the first author andR. Rigelhof [10]. Among other results, it is proved that each positive functional on a BP*-algebraA is admissible but not necessarily continuous as shown by an example. However, ifA, in addition, is either (i) a Q-algebra, or (ii) has an identity and is barrelled, or (iii)A is endowed with the inductive limit topology, then each positive functional onA is continuous. This work was supported by an N.R.C. For a certain class of extensions of C*-algebras in which B and A belong to classifiable classes of C*-algebras, we show that the functor which sends to its associated six term exact sequence in K-theory and the positive cones of K0(B) and K0(A) is a classification functor. We give two independent applications addressing the classification of a class of C*-algebras arising from substitutional shift spaces on one hand and of graph algebras on the other. The former application leads to the answer of a question of Carlsen and the first named author concerning the completeness of stabilized Matsumoto algebras as an invariant of flow equivalence. The latter leads to the first classification result for nonsimple graph C*-algebras.  相似文献

We completely determine the homotopy groups n (.) of the unitary group and the space of projections of purely infinite simple C *-algebras in terms of K-theory. We also prove that the unitary group of a purely infinite simple C *-algebra A is a contractible topological space if and only if K0(A) = K1(A) = {0}, and again if and only if the unitary group of the associated generalized Calkin algebra L(HA) / K(HA) is contractible. The well-known Kuiper's theorem is extended to a new class of C *-algebras.  相似文献

We show that some local properties (such as nuclearity, exactness, and local reflexivity) of ternary rings of operators (TROs) are closely related to the local properties of their linking C*-algebras. We also show some equivalent conditions for nuclear TROs, and show that Haagerup's decomposition property for completely bounded maps and Pisier's δ-norm can be naturally generalized to TROs.  相似文献

Akemann showed that any von Neumann algebra with a weak* separable dual space has a faithful normal representation on a separable Hilbert space. He posed the question: If a C*-algebra has a weak* separable state space, must it have a faithful representation on a separable Hilbert space? Wright solved this question negatively and showed that a unital C*-algebra has the weak* separable state space if and only if it has a unital completely positive map, into a type I factor on a separable Hilbert space, whose restriction to the self-adjoint part induces an order isomorphism. He called such a C*-algebra almost separably representable. We say that a unital C*-algebra is small if it has a unital complete isometry into a type I factor on a separable Hilbert space. In this paper we show that a unital C*-algebra is small if and only if the state spaces of all n by n matrix algebras over the C*-algebra are weak*-separable. It is natural to ask whether almost separably representable algebras are small or not. We settle this question positively for simple C*-algebras but the general question remains open.  相似文献

We study properties of the quantale spectrum MaxA of an arbitrary unital C*-algebra A. In particular we show that the spatialization of MaxA with respect to one of the notions of spatiality in the literature yields the locale of closed ideals of A when A is commutative. We study under general conditions functors with this property, in addition requiring that colimits be preserved, and we conclude in this case that the spectrum of A necessarily coincides with the locale of closed ideals of the commutative reflection of A. Finally, we address functorial properties of Max, namely studying (non-)preservation of limits and colimits. Although Max is not an equivalence of categories, therefore not providing a direct generalization of Gelfand duality to the noncommutative case, it is a faithful complete invariant of unital C*-algebras.  相似文献

In this paper, we point out that most results on abelian (complex)W *-algebras hold in the real case. Of course, there are differences in homeomorphisms of period 2. Moreover, an abelian real Von Neumann algebra not containing any minimal projection on a separable real Hilbert space is * isomorphic toL τ ([0, 1]) (all real functions inL ([0, 1])), orL ([0, 1]) (as a realW *-algebra), orL τ ([0, 1]) ⋇L ([0, 1]) (as a realW *-algebra), and it is different from the complex case. We first determine the homotopy classes of nontrivial projections in a purely infinite simpleC*-algebraA, in the associated multiplier algebraM(A) and the corona algebraM A/A in terms ofK *(A). Then we describe the generalized Fredholm indices as the group of homotopy classes of non-trivial projections ofA; consequently, we determine theK *-groups of all hereditaryC*-subalgebras of certain corona algebras. Secondly, we consider a group structure of *-isomorphism classes of hereditaryC*-subalgebras of purely infinite simpleC*-algebras. In addition, we prove that ifA is aC*-algebra of real rank zero, then each unitary ofA, in caseA it unital, each unitary ofM(A) and ofM(A)/A, in caseA is nonunital but -unital, can be factored into a product of a unitary homotopic to the identity and a unitary matrix whose entries are all partial isometries (with respect to a decomposition of the identity).Partially supported by a grant from the National Science Foundation.  相似文献

Assume that each completely irrational noncommutative torus is realized as an inductive limit of circle algebras, and that for a completely irrational noncommutative torus Aw of rank m there are a completely irrational noncommutative torus Aρ of rank m and a positive integer d such that tr(Aw)=1/d.tr(Aρ).It is proved that the set of all C^*-algebras of sections of locally trivial C^*-algebra bundles over S^2 with fibres Aω has a group sturcture, denoted by π1^s(Aut(Aω)),which is isomorphic to Zif Ed>1 and {0} if d>1.Let Bcd be a cd-homogeneous C^*-algebra over S^2×T^2 of which no non-trivial matrix algebra can be factored out.The spherical noncommutative torus Sρ^cd is defined by twisting C^*(T2×Z^m-2) in Bcd ×C^*(Z^m-3) by a totally skew multiplier ρ on T^2×Z^m-2。It is shown that Sρ^cd×Mρ∞ is isomorphic to C(S^2)×C^*(T^2×Z^m-2,ρ)× Mcd(C)×Mρ∞ if and only if the set of prime factors of cd is a subset of the set of prime factors of p.  相似文献

We show that two continuous inverse limit actions α and β of a locally compact group G on two pro-C *-algebras A and B are stably outer conjugate if and only if there is a full Hilbert A-module E and a continuous action u of G on E such that E and E *(the dual module of E) are countably generated in M(E)(the multiplier module of E), respectively M(E *) and the pair (E, u) implements a strong Morita equivalence between α and β. This is a generalization of a result of F. Combes [Proc. London Math. Soc. 49(1984), 289–306].   相似文献

We endow any proper A-convex H*-algebra (E, τ) with a locally pre-C*-topology. The latter is equivalent to that introduced by the pre C*-norm given by Ptàk function when (E, τ) is a Q-algebra. We also prove that the algebra of complex numbers is the unique proper locally A-convex H*-algebra which is barrelled and Q-algebra.   相似文献

Let X be a connected finite CW complex. We show that, given a positive homomorphism Hom(K *(C(X)), K *(A)) with [1 C(X)][1 A ], where A is a unital separable simple C *-algebra with real rank zero, stable rank one and weakly unperforated K 0(A), there exists a homomorphism h: C(X)A such that h induces . We also prove a structure result for unital separable simple C *-algebras A with real rank zero, stable rank one and weakly unperforated K 0(A), namely, there exists a simple AH-algebra of real rank zero contained in A which determines the K-theory of A.  相似文献

We develop the general theory for a new functor K e on the category of C *-algebras. The extremal K-set, K e (A), of a C *-algebra A is defined by means of homotopy classes of extreme partial isometries. It contains K 1 (A) and admits a partially defined addition extending the addition in K 1 (A), so that we have an action of K 1 (A) on K e (A). We show how this functor relates to K 0 and K 1, and how it can be used as a carrier of information relating the various K-groups of ideals and quotients of A. The extremal K-set is then used to extend the classical theory of index for Fredholm and semi-Fredholm operators.  相似文献

For C*-algebras A and B, the identity map from into A λ B is shown to be injective. Next, we deduce that the center of the completion of the tensor product AB of two C*-algebras A and B with centers Z(A) and Z(B) under operator space projective norm is equal to . A characterization of isometric automorphisms of and A h B is also obtained. Dedicated to Ajit Iqbal Singh on her 65th birthday.  相似文献
