Abstract. The real points of the Deligne—Knudsen—Mumford moduli space \overline \cal M n 0 of marked points on the sphere have a natural tiling by associahedra. We extend this idea to construct an aspherical space tiled by cyclohedra . We explore the structure of this space, coming from blow-ups of hyperplane arrangements, as well as discuss possibilities of its role in knot theory and mathematical physics.  相似文献

We consider the moduli space r of polygons with fixed side lengths in five-dimensional Euclidean space. We analyze the local structure of its singularities and exhibit a real-analytic equivalence between r and a weighted quotient of n-fold products of the quaternionic projective line 1 by the diagonal PSL(2, )-action. We explore the relation between r and the fixed point set of an anti-symplectic involution on a GIT quotient Gr(2, 4) n /SL(4, ℂ). We generalize the Gel'fand—MacPherson correspondence to more general complex Grassmannians and to the quaternionic context, and realize our space r as a quotient of a subspace in the quaternionic Grassmannian Gr(2, n) by the action of the group Sp(1) n . We also give analogues of the Gel'fand—Tsetlin coordinates on the space of quaternionic Hermitean marices and briefly describe generalized action—angle coordinates on r .  相似文献

We consider a special space of set-valued functions (multifunctions), the space of densely continuous forms D(X, Y) between Hausdorff spaces X and Y, defined in [HAMMER, S. T.—McCOY, R. A.: Spaces of densely continuous forms, Set-Valued Anal. 5 (1997), 247–266] and investigated also in [HOLá, L’.: Spaces of densely continuous forms, USCO and minimal USCO maps, Set-Valued Anal. 11 (2003), 133–151]. We show some of its properties, completing the results from the papers [HOLY, D.—VADOVIČ, P.: Densely continuous forms, pointwise topology and cardinal functions, Czechoslovak Math. J. 58(133) (2008), 79–92] and [HOLY, D.—VADOVIČ, P.: Hausdorff graph topology, proximal graph topology and the uniform topology for densely continuous forms and minimal USCO maps, Acta Math. Hungar. 116 (2007), 133–144], in particular concerning the structure of the space of real-valued locally bounded densely continuous forms D p *(X) equipped with the topology of pointwise convergence in the product space of all nonempty-compact-valued multifunctions. The paper also contains a comparison of cardinal functions on D p *(X) and on real-valued continuous functions C p (X) and a generalization of a sufficient condition for the countable cellularity of D p *(X). In this paper we introduce a generalized Sobolev space by defining a semi-inner product formulated in terms of a vector distributional operator P consisting of finitely or countably many distributional operators P n , which are defined on the dual space of the Schwartz space. The types of operators we consider include not only differential operators, but also more general distributional operators such as pseudo-differential operators. We deduce that a certain appropriate full-space Green function G with respect to L := P *T P now becomes a conditionally positive function. In order to support this claim we ensure that the distributional adjoint operator P * of P is well-defined in the distributional sense. Under sufficient conditions, the native space (reproducing-kernel Hilbert space) associated with the Green function G can be embedded into or even be equivalent to a generalized Sobolev space. As an application, we take linear combinations of translates of the Green function with possibly added polynomial terms and construct a multivariate minimum-norm interpolant s f,X to data values sampled from an unknown generalized Sobolev function f at data sites located in some set X ì \mathbbRd{X \subset \mathbb{R}^d}. We provide several examples, such as Matérn kernels or Gaussian kernels, that illustrate how many reproducing-kernel Hilbert spaces of well-known reproducing kernels are equivalent to a generalized Sobolev space. These examples further illustrate how we can rescale the Sobolev spaces by the vector distributional operator P. Introducing the notion of scale as part of the definition of a generalized Sobolev space may help us to choose the “best” kernel function for kernel-based approximation methods.  相似文献

We consider the Schr?dinger operator Hγ = ( − Δ)l + γ V(x)· acting in the space $$L_2 (\mathbb{R}^d ),$$ where 2ld, V (x) ≥ 0, V (x) is continuous and is not identically zero, and $$\lim _{|{\mathbf{x}}| \to \infty } V({\mathbf{x}}) = 0.$$ We obtain an asymptotic expansion as $$\gamma \uparrow 0$$of the bottom negative eigenvalue of Hγ, which is born at the moment γ = 0 from the lower bound λ = 0 of the spectrum σ(H0) of the unperturbed operator H0 = ( − Δ)l (a virtual eigenvalue). To this end we develop a supplement to the Birman-Schwinger theory on the process of the birth of eigenvalues in the gap of the spectrum of the unperturbed operator H0. Furthermore, we extract a finite-rank portion Φ(λ) from the Birman- Schwinger operator $$X_V (\lambda ) = V^{\frac{1} {2}} R_\lambda (H_0 )V^{\frac{1}{2}} ,$$ which yields the leading terms for the desired asymptotic expansion.  相似文献

The main goal of this paper is to extend the approximation theorem of contiuous functions by Haar polynomials (see Theorem A) to infinite matrices (see Theorem C). The extension to the matricial framework will be based on the one hand on the remark that periodic functions which belong toL (T) may be one-to-one identified with Toeplitz matrices fromB(l 2) (see Theorem 0) and on the other hand on some notions given in the paper. We mention for instance:ms—a unital commutative subalgebra ofl ,C(l 2) the matricial analogue of the space of all continuous periodic functionsC(T), the matricial Haar polynomials, etc. In Section 1 we present some results concerning the spacems—a concept important for this generalization, the proof of the main theorem being given in the second section. The space HF k (Ω) of harmonic multi-vector fields in a domain as introduced in [1] is closely connected to the space of harmonic forms. The main aim of this paper is to characterize the dual space of HF k (E) being a compact set. It is proved that HF k (E)* is isomorphic to a certain quotient space of so-called harmonic pairs outside E vanishing at infinity. In this paper we consider special elements of the Fock space #x2131; n . That is the space of entire functionsf:ℂ: n →ℂ, such that the followingL 2- condition is satisfied: . Here we show that there exists an entire functiong:ℂ n →ℂ such that for every one-dimensional subspace Π⊂ℂ n and for all 0<∈<2 we have , but in the limit case ∈=0 we have . This result is analogue to a result from [1]. There holomorphic functions on the unit-ball are investigated. Furthermore the proof — as the one in [1] — uses a theorem from [2]. Therefore we give another application of the results from [2] — namely for spaces of entire functions.  相似文献

Let Γ be a non-singular real-analytic hypersurface in some domainU ⊂ ℝ n and let Har0(U, Γ) denote the linear space of harmonic functions inU that vanish on Γ. We seek a condition onx 0,x 1U/Γ such that the reflection law (RL)u(x 0)+Ku(x 1)=0, ∀u∈Har0(U, Γ) holds for some constantK. This is equivalent to the class Har0 (U, Γ) not separating the pointsx 0,x 1. We find that in odd-dimensional spaces (RL)never holds unless Γ is a sphere or a hyperplane, in which case there is a well known reflection generalizing the celebrated Schwarz reflection principle in two variables. In even-dimensional spaces the situation is different. We find a necessary and sufficient condition (denoted the SSR—strong Study reflection—condition), which we described both analytically and geometrically, for (RL) to hold. This extends and complements previous work by e.g. P.R. Garabedian, H. Lewy, D. Khavinson and H. S. Shapiro.  相似文献

In this article, we study geometric aspects of the space of arcs parameterized by unit speed in the L 2 metric. Physically, this corresponds to the motion of a whip, and it also arises in studying shape recognition. The geodesic equation is the nonlinear, nonlocal wave equation η tt = ∂ s (σ η s ), with \lvert hs\rvert o 1{\lvert \eta_{s}\rvert\equiv 1} and σ given by sss- \lvert hss\rvert2 s = -\lvert hst\rvert2{\sigma_{ss}- \lvert \eta_{ss}\rvert^2 \sigma = -\lvert \eta_{st}\rvert^2}, with boundary conditions σ(t, 1) = σ(t, −1) = 0 and η(t, 0) = 0. We prove that the space of arcs is a submanifold of the space of all curves, that the orthogonal projection exists but is not smooth, and as a consequence we get a Riemannian exponential map that is continuous and even differentiable but not C 1. This is related to the fact that the curvature is positive but unbounded above, so that there are conjugate points at arbitrarily short times along any geodesic.  相似文献

We produce skew loops—loops having no pair of parallel tangent lines—homotopic to any loop in a flat torus or other quotient of R n . The interesting case here is n = 3. More subtly for any n, we characterize the homotopy classes that will contain a skew loop having a specified loop as tangent indicatrix. Let Ω ⊂ ℝ d be a compact convex set of positive measure. In a recent paper, we established a definiteness theory for cubature formulae of order two on Ω. Here we study extremal properties of those positive definite formulae that can be generated by a centroidal Voronoi tessellation of Ω. In this connection we come across a class of operators of the form Ln[f](x): = ?i=1n fi(x)(f(yi) + á?f(yi), x-yi?)L_n[f](\boldsymbol{x}):= \sum_{i=1}^n \phi_i(\boldsymbol{x})(f(\boldsymbol{y}_i) + \langle\nabla f(\boldsymbol{y}_i), \boldsymbol{x}-\boldsymbol{y}_i\rangle), where y1,..., yn\boldsymbol{y}_1,\dots, \boldsymbol{y}_n are distinct points in Ω and {ϕ 1, ..., ϕ n } is a partition of unity on Ω. We present best possible pointwise error estimates and describe operators L n with a smallest constant in an L p error estimate for 1 ≤ p < ∞ . For a generalization, we introduce a new type of Voronoi tessellation in terms of a twice continuously differentiable and strictly convex function f. It allows us to describe a best operator L n for approximating f by L n [f] with respect to the L p norm.  相似文献

Let (X, ρ) be a metric space and ↓USCC(X) and ↓CC(X) be the families of the regions below all upper semi-continuous compact-supported maps and below all continuous compact-supported maps from X to I = [0, 1], respectively. With the Hausdorff-metric, they are topological spaces. In this paper, we prove that, if X is an infinite compact metric space with a dense set of isolated points, then (↓USCC(X), ↓CC(X)) ≈ (Q, c0 ∪ (Q \ Σ)), i.e., there is a homeomorphism h :↓USCC(X) → Q such that h(↓CC(X)) = c0 ∪ (Q \ Σ...  相似文献

We study diagonal estimates for the Bergman kernels of certain model domains in \mathbbC2{\mathbb{C}^{2}} near boundary points that are of infinite type. To do so, we need a mild structural condition on the defining functions of interest that facilitates optimal upper and lower bounds. This is a mild condition; unlike earlier studies of this sort, we are able to make estimates for non-convex pseudoconvex domains as well. This condition quantifies, in some sense, how flat a domain is at an infinite-type boundary point. In this scheme of quantification, the model domains considered below range—roughly speaking—from being “mildly infinite-type” to very flat at the infinite-type points.  相似文献

We generalize a well known convexity property of the multiplicative potential function. We prove that, given any convex function g : \mathbbRm ? [0, ¥]{g : \mathbb{R}^m \rightarrow [{0}, {\infty}]}, the function ${({\rm \bf x},{\rm \bf y})\mapsto g({\rm \bf x})^{1+\alpha}{\bf y}^{-{\bf \beta}}, {\bf y}>{\bf 0}}${({\rm \bf x},{\rm \bf y})\mapsto g({\rm \bf x})^{1+\alpha}{\bf y}^{-{\bf \beta}}, {\bf y}>{\bf 0}}, is convex if β ≥ 0 and α ≥ β 1 + ··· + β n . We also provide further generalization to functions of the form (x,y1, . . . , yn)? g(x)1+af1(y1)-b1 ···fn(yn)-bn{({\rm \bf x},{\rm \bf y}_1, . . . , {y_n})\mapsto g({\rm \bf x})^{1+\alpha}f_1({\rm \bf y}_1)^{-\beta_1} \cdot \cdot \cdot f_n({\rm \bf y}_n)^{-\beta_n} } with the f k concave, positively homogeneous and nonnegative on their domains.  相似文献

In a previous paper (Israel J. Math.28 (1977), 313–324), it was shown that for a certain class of cardinals τ,l 1(τ) embeds in a Banach spaceX if and only ifL 1([0, 1]τ) embeds inX *. An extension (to a rather wider class of cardinals) of the basic lemma of that paper is here applied so as to yield an affirmative answer to a question posed by Rosenthal concerning dual ℒ1-spaces. It is shown that ifZ * is a dual Banach space, isomorphic to a complemented subspace of anL 1-space, and κ is the density character ofZ *, thenl 1(κ) embeds inZ *. A corollary of this result is that every injective bidual Banach space is isomorphic tol (κ) for some κ. The second part of this article is devoted to an example, constructed using the continuum hypothesis, of a compact spaceS which carries a homogeneous measure of type ω1, but which is such thatl 11) does not embed in ℰ(S). This shows that the main theorem of the already mentioned paper is not valid in the case τ = ω1. The dual space ℰ(S)* is isometric to , and is a member of a new isomorphism class of dualL 1-spaces.  相似文献

Let μ be an even compactly supported Borel probability measure on the real line. For every N > n consider N independent random vectors X 1, ..., X N in ℝ n , with independent coordinates having distribution μ. We establish a sharp threshold for the volume of the random polytope K N ≔ conv{X 1, ..., X N }, provided that the Legendre transform λ of the cumulant generating function of μ satisfies the condition

We give a new algorithm for enumerating all possible embeddings of a metric space (i.e., the distances between every pair within a set of n points) into ℝ2 Cartesian space preserving their l (or l 1) metric distances. Its expected time is (i.e., within a poly-log of the size of the input) beating the previous algorithm. In contrast, we prove that detecting l 3 embeddings is NP-complete. The problem is also NP-complete within l 12 or l 2 with the added constraint that the locations of two of the points are given or alternatively that the two dimensions are curved into a three-dimensional sphere. We also refute a compaction theorem by giving a metric space that cannot be embedded in l 3; however, it can be embedded if any single point is removed. This research is partially supported by NSERC grants. I would like to thank Steven Watson for his extensive help on this paper.  相似文献
