In this paper, we first characterize pseudo-amenability of semigroup algebras \(\ell ^1(S),\) for a certain class of commutative semigroups S,  the so-called archimedean semigroups. We show that for an archimedean semigroup S,  pseudo-amenability, amenability and approximate amenability of \(\ell ^1(S)\) are equivalent. Then for a commutative semigroup S,  we show that pseudo-amenability of \(\ell ^{1}(S)\) implies that S is a Clifford semigroup. Finally, we give some results on pseudo-amenability and approximate amenability of the second dual of a certain class of commutative semigroup algebras \(\ell ^1(S)\).  相似文献

Let S be a semigroup. We study the structure of graded-simple S-graded algebras A and the exponential rate PIexp S-gr(A):= limn→∞ \(\sqrt[n]{{c_n^{S - gr}\left( A \right)}}\) of growth of codimensions c n S-gr (A) of their graded polynomial identities. This is of great interest since such algebras can have non-integer PIexp S-gr(A) despite being finite dimensional and associative. In addition, such algebras can have a non-trivial Jacobson radical J(A). All this is in strong contrast with the case when S is a group since in the group case J(A) is trivial, PIexp S-gr(A) is always integer and, if the base field is algebraically closed, then PIexp S-gr(A) equals dimA. Without any restrictions on the base field F, we classify graded-simple S-graded algebras A for a class of semigroups S which is complementary to the class of groups. We explicitly describe the structure of J(A) showing that J(A) is built up of pieces of a maximal S-graded semisimple subalgebra of A which turns out to be simple. When F is algebraically closed, we get an upper bound for \({\overline {\lim } _{n \to \infty }}\sqrt[n]{{c_n^{S - gr}\left( A \right)}}\). If A/J(A) ≈ M 2(F) and S is a right zero band, we show that this upper bound is sharp and PIexp S-gr(A) indeed exists. In particular, we present an infinite family of graded-simple algebras A with arbitrarily large non-integer PIexp S-gr(A).  相似文献

We consider a class of weakly coupled systems of elliptic operators \({\mathcal{A}}\) with unbounded coefficients defined in \({\mathbb{R}^N}\). We prove that a semigroup (T(t))t ≥ 0 of bounded linear operators can be associated with \({\mathcal{A}}\), in a natural way, in the space of all bounded and continuous functions. We prove a compactness property of the semigroup as well as some uniform estimates on the derivatives of the function T(t)f, when f belongs to some spaces of Hölder continuous functions, which are the key tools to prove some optimal Schauder estimates for the solution to some nonhomogeneous elliptic equations and Cauchy problems associated with the operator \({\mathcal{A}}\). Under suitable additional conditions, we then prove that the restriction of the semigroup to the subspace of smooth and compactly supported functions extends by a strongly continuous semigroup to L p -spaces over \({\mathbb{R}^N}\), related to the Lebesgue measure, when \({p \in [1,\infty)}\). We also provide sufficient conditions for this semigroup to be analytic when \({p \in [1,\infty)}\). Finally, we prove some L p ?L q -estimates.  相似文献

It is well known that the fundamental solution of
$${u_t}\left( {n,t} \right) = u\left( {n + 1,t} \right) - 2u\left( {n,t} \right) + u\left( {n - 1,t} \right),n \in \mathbb{Z},$$
with u(n, 0) = δ nm for every fixed m ∈ Z is given by u(n, t) = e ?2t I n?m (2t), where I k (t) is the Bessel function of imaginary argument. In other words, the heat semigroup of the discrete Laplacian is described by the formal series W t f(n) = Σ m∈Z e ?2t I n?m (2t)f(m). This formula allows us to analyze some operators associated with the discrete Laplacian using semigroup theory. In particular, we obtain the maximum principle for the discrete fractional Laplacian, weighted ? p (Z)-boundedness of conjugate harmonic functions, Riesz transforms and square functions of Littlewood-Paley. We also show that the Riesz transforms essentially coincide with the so-called discrete Hilbert transform defined by D. Hilbert at the beginning of the twentieth century. We also see that these Riesz transforms are limits of the conjugate harmonic functions. The results rely on a careful use of several properties of Bessel functions.

This paper is a contribution to the development of the theory of representations of inverse semigroups in toposes. It continues the work initiated by Funk and Hofstra (Theory Appl Categ 24(7):117–147, 2010). For the topos of sets, we show that torsion-free functors on Loganathan’s category L(S) of an inverse semigroup S are equivalent to a special class of non-strict representations of S, which we call connected. We show that the latter representations form a proper coreflective subcategory of the category of all non-strict representations of S. We describe the correspondence between directed and pullback preserving functors on L(S) and transitive and effective representations of S, as well as between filtered such functors and universal representations introduced by Lawson, Margolis and Steinberg. We propose a definition of a universal representation, or, equivalently, an S-torsor, of an inverse semigroup S in the topos of sheaves \({\mathsf {Sh}}(X)\) on a topological space X. We prove that the category of filtered functors from L(S) to the topos \({\mathsf {Sh}}(X)\) is equivalent to the category of universal representations of S in \({\mathsf {Sh}}(X)\). We finally propose a definition of an inverse semigroup action in an arbitrary Grothendieck topos, which arises from a functor on L(S).  相似文献

We find the greatest value α 1 and α 2, and the least values β 1 and β 2, such that the double inequalities α 1 S(a,b)?+?(1???α 1) A(a,b)?T(a,b)?β 1 S(a,b)?+?(1???β 1) A(a,b) and \(S^{\alpha_{2}}(a,b)A^{1-\alpha_{2}}(a,b)< T(a,b)< S^{\beta_{2}}(a,b)A^{1-\beta_{2}}(a,b)\) hold for all a,b?>?0 with a?≠?b. As applications, we get two new bounds for the complete elliptic integral of the second kind in terms of elementary functions. Here, S(a,b)?=?[(a 2?+?b 2)/2]1/2, A(a,b)?=?(a?+?b)/2, and \(T(a,b)=\frac{2}{\pi}\int\limits_{0}^{{\pi}/{2}}\sqrt{a^2{\cos^2{\theta}}+b^2{\sin^2{\theta}}}{\rm d}\theta\) denote the root-square, arithmetic, and Toader means of two positive numbers a and b, respectively.  相似文献

The Gamma semigroup with parameter \(b>0\) on \(L^p(\mathbb R^+)\) is defined by
$$\begin{aligned} W_b(t)f(x)=\frac{1}{\Gamma (t)}\int _0^x(x-y)^{t-1}e^{-b(x-y)}f(y)\,dy. \end{aligned}$$
Let S denote the multiplication operator \(f(x)\rightarrow xf(x)\) with maximal domain D(S) in \(L^p(\mathbb R^+)\). The bounded operator V on \(L^p(\mathbb R^+)\) is S-Volterra if D(S) is V-invariant and \([S,V]=V^2\) on D(S). For \(1<p<\infty \), we characterize the Gamma semigroup as the unique regular semigroup \(V(\cdot )\) on \(L^p(\mathbb R^+)\) with imaginary type less than \(\pi \), such that V(1) is S-Volterra and \(V(1)u^b=Su^b\), where \(u^b(x):=e^{-bx}\).

We consider the partial-sum process \( {S}_n(t)={\sum}_{k=0}^{\left\lfloor nt\right\rfloor }{X}_k \) of linear processes \( {X}_n={\sum}_{i=0}^{\infty }{c}_i{\upxi}_{n-i} \) with independent identically distributed innovations {ξ i } belonging to the domain of attraction of α-stable law (0 < α ≤ 2). If |c k |?=?k ?,?k?∈???,?γ?> max(1, 1/α), and \( {\sum}_{k=0}^{\infty}\kern0.5em ck=0 \) (the case of negative memory for the stationary sequence {X n }), then it is known that the normalizing sequence of S n (1) can grow as n 1/α?γ+1 or remain bounded if the signs of the coefficients are constant or alternate, respectively. It is of interest to know whether it is possible, given ? ∈ (0, 1/α ? γ + 1), to change the signs of c k so that the rate of growth of the normalizing sequence would be n ? . In this paper, we give the positive answer: we propose a way of choosing the signs and investigate the finite-dimensional convergence of appropriately normalized S n (t) to linear fractional Lévy motion.  相似文献

This paper contains several results about the structure of the congruence kernel C(S)(G) of an absolutely almost simple simply connected algebraic group G over a global field K with respect to a set of places S of K. In particular, we show that C(S)(G)) is always trivial if S contains a generalized arithmetic progression. We also give a criterion for the centrality of C(S)(G) in the general situation in terms of the existence of commuting lifts of the groups G(Kv) for v ? S in the S-arithmetic completion ?(S). This result enables one to give simple proofs of the centrality in a number of cases. Finally, we show that if K is a number field and G is K-isotropic, then C(S)(G) as a normal subgroup of ?(S) is almost generated by a single element.  相似文献

Let S be a locally compact Hausdorff semigroup, and \(\mathfrak {A}\) a solid subalgebra of measure algebra M(S). In this paper, among other results, we find necessary and sufficient conditions on S that implies \(\mathfrak {A}\) is a semi-topological or a topological algebra with respect to the strict topology on M(S). Applications to discrete semigroups, Brandt semigroups and Clifford semigroups are given. An example establishes negatively the open question of Maghsoudi (Semigroup Forum 86:133–139, 2012). Also, we give a correct proof of Proposition 2.1 of Maghsoudi (2012).  相似文献

Let A and A 0 be linear continuously invertible operators on a Hilbert space ? such that A ?1 ? A 0 ?1 has finite rank. Assuming that σ(A 0) = ? and that the operator semigroup V +(t) = exp{iA 0 t}, t ≥ 0, is of class C 0, we state criteria under which the semigroups U ±(t) = exp{±iAt}, t ≥ 0, are of class C 0 as well. The analysis in the paper is based on functional models for nonself-adjoint operators and techniques of matrix Muckenhoupt weights.  相似文献

If S is a monoid, the set S×S equipped with componentwise S-action is called the diagonal act of S and is denoted by D(S). We prove the following theorem: the right S-act S n (1≠n∈?) is (principally) weakly flat if and only if \(\prod _{i=1}^{n}A_{i}\) is (principally) weakly flat where A i , 1≤in are (principally) weakly flat right S-acts, if and only if the diagonal act D(S) is (principally) weakly flat. This gives an answer to a conjecture posed by Bulman-Fleming and Gilmour (Semigroup Forum 79:298–314, 2009). Besides, we present a fair characterization of monoids S over which the diagonal act D(S) is (principally) weakly flat and finally, we impose a condition on D(S) in order to make S a left PSF monoid.  相似文献

Let D be an open connected subset of the complex plane C with sufficiently smooth boundary ?D. Perturbing the Cauchy problem for the Cauchy–Riemann system ??u = f in D with boundary data on a closed subset S ? ?D, we obtain a family of mixed problems of the Zaremba-type for the Laplace equation depending on a small parameter ε ∈ (0, 1] in the boundary condition. Despite the fact that the mixed problems include noncoercive boundary conditions on ?D\S, each of them has a unique solution in some appropriate Hilbert space H +(D) densely embedded in the Lebesgue space L 2(?D) and the Sobolev–Slobodetski? space H 1/2?δ(D) for every δ > 0. The corresponding family of the solutions {u ε} converges to a solution to the Cauchy problem in H +(D) (if the latter exists). Moreover, the existence of a solution to the Cauchy problem in H +(D) is equivalent to boundedness of the family {u ε} in this space. Thus, we propose solvability conditions for the Cauchy problem and an effective method of constructing a solution in the form of Carleman-type formulas.  相似文献

Let G be a group. We show that the Birget–Rhodes prefix expansion \(G^{Pr}\) and the Margolis–Meakin expansion M(Xf) of G with respect to \(f:X\rightarrow G\) can be regarded as inverse subsemigroups of a common E-unitary inverse semigroup P. We construct P as an inverse subsemigroup of an E-unitary inverse monoid \(U/\zeta \) which is a homomorphic image of the free product U of the free semigroup \(X^+\) on X and G. The semigroup P satisfies a universal property with respect to homomorphisms into the permissible hull C(S) of a suitable E-unitary inverse semigroup S, with \(S/\sigma _S=G\), from which the characterizing universal properties of \(G^{Pr}\) and M(Xf) can be recaptured easily.  相似文献

We show that the classical Szasz analytic function S N (f)(x) is obtained by applying the pseudo-differential operator f(N ?1 D θ ) to the Bergman kernels for the Bargmann–Fock space. The expression generalizes immediately to any smooth polarized noncompact complete toric Kähler manifold, defining the generalized Szasz analytic function \(S_{h^{N}}(f)(x)\). About \(S_{h^{N}}(f)(x)\), we prove that it admits complete asymptotics and there exists a universal scaling limit. As an example, we will further compute \(S_{h^{N}}(f)(x)\) for the Bergman metric on the unit ball.  相似文献

Let (S,ω) be a weighted abelian semigroup, let M ω (S) be the semigroup of ω-bounded multipliers of S, and let \(\mathcal {A}\) be a strictly convex commutative Banach algebra with identity. It is shown that T is an onto isometric multiplier of \(\ell ^{1}(S,\omega , \mathcal {A})\) if and only if there exists an invertible σM ω (S), a unitary point \(a \in \mathcal {A}\), and a k>0 such that \(T(f)= ka{\sum }_{x \in S} f(x)\delta _{\sigma (x)}\) for each \(f={\sum }_{x \in S}f(x)\delta _{x} \in \ell ^{1}(S,\omega ,\mathcal {A})\). It is also shown that an isomorphism from \(\ell ^{1}(S_{1},\omega _{1},\mathcal {A})\) onto \(\ell ^{1}(S_{2},\omega _{2}, \mathcal {B})\) induces an isomorphism from \(M(\ell ^{1}(S_{1},\omega _{1},\mathcal {A}))\), the set of all multipliers of \(\ell ^{1}(S_{1},\omega _{1},\mathcal {A})\), onto \(M(\ell ^{1}(S_{2},\omega _{2},\mathcal {B}))\).  相似文献

Let χ = {χ n } n=0 be the Haar system normalized in L 2(0, 1) and M = {M s } s=1 be an arbitrary, increasing sequence of nonnegative integers. For any subsystem of χ of the form {φ k } = χS = {χ n } nS , where S = S(M) = {n k } k=1 = {nV[p]: pM}, V[0] = {1, 2} and V[p] = {2 p + 1, 2 p + 2, …, 2 p+1} for p = 1, 2, … a series of the form Σ i=1 a i φ i with a i ↘ 0 is constructed, that is universal with respect to partial series in all classes L r (0, 1), r ∈ (0, 1), in the sense of a.e. convergence and in the metric ofL r (0, 1). The constructed series is universal in the class of all measurable, finite functions on [0, 1] in the sense of a.e. convergence. It is proved that there exists a series by Haar system with decreasing coefficients, which has the following property: for any ? > 0 there exists a measurable function µ(x), x ∈ [0, 1], such that 0 ≤ µ(x) ≤ 1 and |{x ∈ [0, 1], µ(x) ≠ = 1}| < ?, and the series is universal in the weighted space L µ[0, 1] with respect to subseries, in the sense of convergence in the norm of L µ[0, 1].  相似文献

Let M n be an n-dimensional closed submanifold of a sphere with parallel normalized mean curvature vector. Denote by S and H the squared norm of the second fundamental form and the mean curvature of M n , respectively.
