The rigorous and efficient determination of the global solution of a nonconvex MINLP problem arising from product portfolio optimization introduced by Kallrath (2003) is addressed. The objective of the optimization problem is to determine the optimal number and capacity of reactors satisfying the demand and leading to a minimal total cost. Based on the model developed by Kallrath (2003), an improved formulation is proposed, which consists of a concave objective function and linear constraints with binary and continuous variables. A variety of techniques are developed to tighten the model and accelerate the convergence to the optimal solution. A customized branch and bound approach that exploits the special mathematical structure is proposed to solve the model to global optimality. Computational results for two case studies are presented. In both case studies, the global solutions are obtained and proved optimal very efficiently in contrast to available commercial MINLP solvers.  相似文献

The subject of this article is a class of global optimization problems, in which the variables can be divided into two groups such that, in each group, the functions involved have the same structure (e.g. linear, convex or concave, etc.). Based on the decomposition idea of Benders (Ref. 1), a corresponding master problem is defined on the space of one of the two groups of variables. The objective function of this master problem is in fact the optimal value function of a nonlinear parametric optimization problem. To solve the resulting master problem, a branch-and-bound scheme is proposed, in which the estimation of the lower bounds is performed by applying the well-known weak duality theorem in Lagrange duality. The results of this article concentrate on two subjects: investigating the convergence of the general algorithm and solving dual problems of some special classes of nonconvex optimization problems. Based on results in sensitivity and stability theory and in parametric optimization, conditions for the convergence are established by investigating the so-called dual properness property and the upper semicontinuity of the objective function of the master problem. The general algorithm is then discussed in detail for some nonconvex problems including concave minimization problems with a special structure, general quadratic problems, optimization problems on the efficient set, and linear multiplicative programming problems.  相似文献

Penalty function is an important tool in solving many constrained optimization problems in areas such as industrial design and management. In this paper, we study exactness and algorithm of an objective penalty function for inequality constrained optimization. In terms of exactness, this objective penalty function is at least as good as traditional exact penalty functions. Especially, in the case of a global solution, the exactness of the proposed objective penalty function shows a significant advantage. The sufficient and necessary stability condition used to determine whether the objective penalty function is exact for a global solution is proved. Based on the objective penalty function, an algorithm is developed for finding a global solution to an inequality constrained optimization problem and its global convergence is also proved under some conditions. Furthermore, the sufficient and necessary calmness condition on the exactness of the objective penalty function is proved for a local solution. An algorithm is presented in the paper in finding a local solution, with its convergence proved under some conditions. Finally, numerical experiments show that a satisfactory approximate optimal solution can be obtained by the proposed algorithm.  相似文献

本文旨在针对线性比式和规划这一NP-Hard非线性规划问题提出新的全局优化算法.首先,通过引入p个辅助变量把原问题等价的转化为一个非线性规划问题,这个非线性规划问题的目标函数是乘积和的形式并给原问题增加了p个新的非线性约束,再通过构造凸凹包络的技巧对等价问题的目标函数和约束条件进行相应的线性放缩,构成等价问题的一个下界线性松弛规划问题,从而提出了一个求解原问题的分支定界算法,并证明了算法的收敛性.最后,通过数值结果比较表明所提出的算法是可行有效的.  相似文献

In this paper, we model and solve the network interdiction problem of minimizing the maximum flow through a network from a given source node to a terminus node, while incorporating different forms of superadditive synergy effects of the resources applied to the arcs in the network. Within this context, we examine linear, concave, and convex–concave synergy relationships, illustrate their relative effect on optimal solution characteristics, and accordingly develop and test effective solution procedures for the underlying problems. For a concave synergy relationship, which yields a convex programme, we propose an inner-linearization procedure that significantly outperforms the competitive commercial solver SBB by improving the quality of solutions found by the latter by 6.2% (within a time limit of 1800 CPU?s), while saving 84.5% of the required computational effort. For general non-concave synergy relationships, we develop an outer-approximation-based heuristic that achieves solutions of objective value 0.20% better than the commercial global optimization software BARON, with a 99.3% reduction in computational effort for the subset of test problems for which BARON could identify a feasible solution within the set time limit.  相似文献

We consider resource allocation with separable objective functions defined over subranges of the integers. While it is well known that (the maximization version of) this problem can be solved efficiently if the objective functions are concave, the general problem of resource allocation with non-concave functions is difficult. In this article we show that for fairly well-shaped non-concave objective functions, the optimal solution can be computed efficiently. Our main enabling ingredient is an algorithm for aggregating two objective functions, where the cost depends on the complexity of the two involved functions. As a measure of complexity of a function, we use the number of subintervals that are convex or concave.  相似文献

The class of fuzzy linear fractional optimization problems with fuzzy coefficients in the objective function is considered in this paper. We propose a parametric method for computing the membership values of the extreme points in the fuzzy set solution to such problems. We replace the exhaustive computation of the membership values—found in the literature for solving the same class of problems—by a parametric analysis of the efficiency of the feasible basic solutions to the bi-objective linear fractional programming problem through the optimality test in a related linear programming problem, thus simplifying the computation. An illustrative example from the field of production planning is included in the paper to complete the theoretical presentation of the solving approach, but also to emphasize how many real life problems may be modelled mathematically using fuzzy linear fractional optimization.  相似文献

一个优化问题的逆问题是这样一类问题,在给定该优化问题的一个可行解时,通过最小化目标函数中参数的改变量(在某个范数下)使得该可行解成为改变参数后的该优化问题的最优解。对于本是NP-难问题的无容量限制设施选址问题,证明了其逆问题仍是NP-难的。研究了使用经典的行生成算法对无容量限制设施选址的逆问题进行计算,并给出了求得逆问题上下界的启发式方法。两种方法分别基于对子问题的线性松弛求解给出上界和利用邻域搜索以及设置迭代循环次数的方式给出下界。数值结果表明线性松弛法得到的上界与最优值差距较小,但求解效率提升不大;而启发式方法得到的下界与最优值差距极小,极大地提高了求解该逆问题的效率。  相似文献

An optimization model with one linear objective function and fuzzy relation equation constraints was presented by Fang and Li (1999) as well as an efficient solution procedure was designed by them for solving such a problem. A more general case of the problem, an optimization model with one linear objective function and finitely many constraints of fuzzy relation inequalities, is investigated in this paper. A new approach for solving this problem is proposed based on a necessary condition of optimality given in the paper. Compared with the known methods, the proposed algorithm shrinks the searching region and hence obtains an optimal solution fast. For some special cases, the proposed algorithm reaches an optimal solution very fast since there is only one minimum solution in the shrunk searching region. At the end of the paper, two numerical examples are given to illustrate this difference between the proposed algorithm and the known ones.  相似文献

本文研究了带有释放时间的单机双代理调度问题,目标函数为极小化最大完工时间和。为了便于利用优化软件求解,建立了混合整数规划模型。考虑到该问题具有NP困难性,因此采用近似与精确算法分别求解不同规模问题。针对大规模问题,提出了优势代理优先启发式算法,并证明了其渐近最优性。针对小规模问题,设计了分支定界法进行最优求解,其中基于释放时间的分支规则和基于加工中断的下界有效地减少了运算时间。最后,通过数值测试验证了分支定界算法的有效性以及启发式算法的收敛性。  相似文献

We show in the present paper that many open and challenging problems in control theory belong the the class of concave minimization programs. More precisely, these problems can be recast as the minimization of a concave objective function over convex LMI (Linear Matrix Inequality) constraints. As concave programming is the best studied class of problems in global optimization, several concave programs such as simplicial and conical partitioning algorithms can be used for the resolution. Moreover, these global techniques can be combined with a local Frank and Wolfe feasible direction algorithm and improved by the use of specialized stopping criteria, hence reducing the overall computational overhead. In this respect, the proposed hybrid optimization scheme can be considered as a new line of attack for solving hard control problems.Computational experiments indicate the viability of our algorithms, and that in the worst case they require the solution of a few LMI programs. Power and efficiency of the algorithms are demonstrated for a realistic inverted-pendulum control problem.Overall, this dedication reflects the key role that concavity and LMIs play in difficult control problems.  相似文献

Augmented Lagrangian function is one of the most important tools used in solving some constrained optimization problems. In this article, we study an augmented Lagrangian objective penalty function and a modified augmented Lagrangian objective penalty function for inequality constrained optimization problems. First, we prove the dual properties of the augmented Lagrangian objective penalty function, which are at least as good as the traditional Lagrangian function's. Under some conditions, the saddle point of the augmented Lagrangian objective penalty function satisfies the first-order Karush-Kuhn-Tucker condition. This is especially so when the Karush-Kuhn-Tucker condition holds for convex programming of its saddle point existence. Second, we prove the dual properties of the modified augmented Lagrangian objective penalty function. For a global optimal solution, when the exactness of the modified augmented Lagrangian objective penalty function holds, its saddle point exists. The sufficient and necessary stability conditions used to determine whether the modified augmented Lagrangian objective penalty function is exact for a global solution is proved. Based on the modified augmented Lagrangian objective penalty function, an algorithm is developed to find a global solution to an inequality constrained optimization problem, and its global convergence is also proved under some conditions. Furthermore, the sufficient and necessary calmness condition on the exactness of the modified augmented Lagrangian objective penalty function is proved for a local solution. An algorithm is presented in finding a local solution, with its convergence proved under some conditions.  相似文献

A convexification method is proposed for solving a class of global optimization problems with certain monotone properties. It is shown that this class of problems can be transformed into equivalent concave minimization problems using the proposed convexification schemes. An outer approximation method can then be used to find the global solution of the transformed problem. Applications to mixed-integer nonlinear programming problems arising in reliability optimization of complex systems are discussed and satisfactory numerical results are presented.  相似文献

In this paper we are concerned with the problem of unboundedness and existence of an optimal solution in reverse convex and concave integer optimization problems. In particular, we present necessary and sufficient conditions for existence of an upper bound for a convex objective function defined over the feasible region contained in ${\mathbb{Z}^n}$ . The conditions for boundedness are provided in a form of an implementable algorithm, showing that for the considered class of functions, the integer programming problem is unbounded if and only if the associated continuous problem is unbounded. We also address the problem of boundedness in the global optimization problem of maximizing a convex function over a set of integers contained in a convex and unbounded region. It is shown in the paper that in both types of integer programming problems, the objective function is either unbounded from above, or it attains its maximum at a feasible integer point.  相似文献

In this paper, we consider the class of linearly constrained nonconvex quadratic programming problems, and present a new approach based on a novel Reformulation-Linearization/Convexification Technique. In this approach, a tight linear (or convex) programming relaxation, or outer-approximation to the convex envelope of the objective function over the constrained region, is constructed for the problem by generating new constraints through the process of employing suitable products of constraints and using variable redefinitions. Various such relaxations are considered and analyzed, including ones that retain some useful nonlinear relationships. Efficient solution techniques are then explored for solving these relaxations in order to derive lower and upper bounds on the problem, and appropriate branching/partitioning strategies are used in concert with these bounding techniques to derive a convergent algorithm. Computational results are presented on a set of test problems from the literature to demonstrate the efficiency of the approach. (One of these test problems had not previously been solved to optimality). It is shown that for many problems, the initial relaxation itself produces an optimal solution.  相似文献

This paper addresses information-maximizing sensor selection that determines a set of measurement locations providing the largest entropy reduction in the estimates of the state variables. A new mixed-integer semidefinite program (MISDP) formulation is proposed for this selection under the constraints resulting from communication limitations. This formulation employs binary variables indicating if the corresponding measurement location is selected, and ensures convexity of the objective function and linearity of the constraint functions by exploiting the linear equivalent form of a bilinear term involving binary variables. An outer-approximation algorithm is then developed for the MISDP formulation that obtains the global optimal solution by solving a sequence of mixed-integer linear programs for which reliable solvers are available. Numerical experiments verify the solution optimality and the computational effectiveness of the proposed algorithm by comparing it to branch-and-bound-based approaches with nonlinear programming relaxation. An example of sensor selection to track a moving target is considered to demonstrate the applicability of the proposed method and highlight its ability to handle quadratic constraints.  相似文献

In the last decades, heuristic techniques have become established as suitable approaches for solving optimal control problems. Unlike deterministic methods, they do not suffer from locality of the results and do not require any starting guess to yield an optimal solution. The main disadvantages of heuristic algorithms are the lack of any convergence proof and the capability of yielding only a near optimal solution, if a particular representation for control variables is adopted. This paper describes the indirect swarming method, based on the joint use of the analytical necessary conditions for optimality, together with a simple heuristic technique, namely the particle swarm algorithm. This methodology circumvents the previously mentioned disadvantages of using heuristic approaches, while retaining their advantageous feature of not requiring any starting guess to generate an optimal solution. The particle swarm algorithm is chosen among the different available heuristic techniques, due to its apparent simplicity and the recent promising results reported in the scientific literature. Two different orbital maneuvering problems are considered and solved with great numerical accuracy, and this testifies to the effectiveness of the indirect swarming algorithm in solving low-thrust trajectory optimization problems.  相似文献

In this paper, a finite branch-and-bound algorithm is developed for the minimization of a concave power law over a polytope. Linear terms are also included in the objective function. Using the first order necessary conditions of optimality, the optimization problem is transformed into an equivalent problem consisting of a linear objective function, a set of linear constraints, a set of convex constraints, and a set of bilinear complementary constraints. The transformed problem is then solved using a finite branch-and-bound algorithm that solves two convex problems at each of its nodes. The method is illustrated by means of an example from the literature.  相似文献
