The stability problems of the exponential (functional) equation on a restricted domain will be investigated, and the results will be applied to the study of an asymptotic property of that equation. More precisely, the following asymptotic property is proved: Let X be a real (or complex) normed space. A mapping f : X → C is exponential if and only if f(x + y) - f(x)f(y) → 0 as ||x|| + ||y|| → ∞ under some suitable conditions.  相似文献

Summary. We establish that a non-Gaussian nonparametric regression model is asymptotically equivalent to a regression model with Gaussian noise. The approximation is in the sense of Le Cam's deficiency distance Δ; the models are then asymptotically equivalent for all purposes of statistical decision with bounded loss. Our result concerns a sequence of independent but not identically distributed observations with each distribution in the same real-indexed exponential family. The canonical parameter is a value f(t i ) of a regression function f at a grid point t i (nonparametric GLM). When f is in a H?lder ball with exponent we establish global asymptotic equivalence to observations of a signal Γ(f(t)) in Gaussian white noise, where Γ is related to a variance stabilizing transformation in the exponential family. The result is a regression analog of the recently established Gaussian approximation for the i.i.d. model. The proof is based on a functional version of the Hungarian construction for the partial sum process. Received: 4 February 1997  相似文献

We show that the representation theorem for classical approximation spaces can be generalized to spaces A(X,l q (ℬ))={fX:{E n (f)}∈l q (ℬ)} in which the weighted l q -space l q (ℬ) can be (more or less) arbitrary. We use this theorem to show that generalized approximation spaces can be viewed as real interpolation spaces (defined with K-functionals or main-part K-functionals) between couples of quasi-normed spaces which satisfy certain Jackson and Bernstein-type inequalities. Especially, interpolation between an approximation space and the underlying quasi-normed space leads again to an approximation space. Together with a general reiteration theorem, which we also prove in the present paper, we obtain formulas for interpolation of two generalized approximation spaces. We give an analog in characteristic p > 0 of theorems given by Gel’fond and Fridman for entire functions. Mainly, we prove that an entire function f of exponential type < p/eln q such that f (σ)(F q [T]) Fq[T] for every 0 ≤ σ < p is a polynomial. Moreover, the bound p/e ln q is optimal. Further results along these lines are also presented.  相似文献

Entire functions that share a polynomial with their derivatives   总被引:1,自引:1,他引:0
Let f be a nonconstant entire function, k and q be positive integers satisfying k>q, and let Q be a polynomial of degree q. This paper studies the uniqueness problem on entire functions that share a polynomial with their derivatives and proves that if the polynomial Q is shared by f and f CM, and if f(k)(z)−Q(z)=0 whenever f(z)−Q(z)=0, then ff. We give two examples to show that the hypothesis k>q is necessary.  相似文献

A non-oscillating Paley-Wiener function is a real entire functionf of exponential type belonging toL 2(R) and such that each derivativef (n),n=0, 1, 2,…, has only a finite number of real zeros. It is established that the class of such functions is non-empty and contains functions of arbitrarily fast decay onR allowed by the convergence of the logarithmic integral. It is shown that the Fourier transform of a non-oscillating Paley-Wiener function must be infinitely differentiable outside the origin. We also give close to best possible asymptotic (asn→∞) estimates of the number of real zeros of then-th derivative of a functionf of the class and the size of the smallest interval containing these zeros.  相似文献

We investigate Dirichlet series L(s, f) = n=1 with q-periodic coefficients f(n), i.e. f(n+q) = f(n) for all integers n and some fixed integer q, and we prove an asymptotic formula for the number of nontrivial zeros of L(s, f). Further, we give a necessary condition for L(s, f) to have a distribution of the nontrivial zeros symmetrical with respect to the critical line.  相似文献

In this paper, the approximation properties of q-Durrmeyer operators Dn,q(f;x) for fC[0,1] are discussed. The exact class of continuous functions satisfying approximation process limnDn,q(f;x)=f(x) is determined. The results of the paper provide an elaboration of the previously-known ones on operators Dn,q.  相似文献

The purpose of this paper is to show that for a certain class of functions f which are analytic in the complex plane possibly minus (−∞, −1], the Abel series f(0) + Σn = 1 f(n)(nβ) z(znβ)n − 1/n! is convergent for all β>0. Its sum is an entire function of exponential type and can be evaluated in terms of f. Furthermore, it is shown that the Abel series of f for small β>0 approximates f uniformly in half-planes of the form Re(z) − 1 + δ, δ>0. At the end of the paper some special cases are discussed.  相似文献

Generalizing theorems of Myers-Steenrod and of Hawking, we obtain characterizations for isometries and conformal mappings of pseudo-Riemannian spaces (M, g): Define a local distance function on convex normal neighbourhoods by (p, q) =g(exp p –1 q, exp p –1 q). Then every homeomorphismf locally preserving these functions is an isometry. If (M, g) has indefinite signature andf locally preserves distance zero, it is a conformal diffeomorphism.  相似文献

For large square matrices A and functions f, the numerical approximation of the action of f(A) to a vector v has received considerable attention in the last two decades. In this paper we investigate theextended Krylov subspace method, a technique that was recently proposed to approximate f(A)v for A symmetric. We provide a new theoretical analysis of the method, which improves the original result for A symmetric, and gives a new estimate for A nonsymmetric. Numerical experiments confirm that the new error estimates correctly capture the linear asymptotic convergence rate of the approximation. By using recent algorithmic improvements, we also show that the method is computationally competitive with respect to other enhancement techniques. Copyright © 2009 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

Let be compact with #S=∞ and let C(S) be the set of all real continuous functions on S. We ask for an algebraic polynomial sequence (Pn)n=0 with deg Pn=n such that every fC(S) has a unique representation f=∑i=0 αiPi and call such a basis Faber basis. In the special case of , 0<q<1, we prove the existence of such a basis. A special orthonormal Faber basis is given by the so-called little q-Legendre polynomials. Moreover, these polynomials state an example with A(Sq)≠U(Sq)=C(Sq), where A(Sq) is the so-called Wiener algebra and U(Sq) is the set of all fC(Sq) which are uniquely represented by its Fourier series.  相似文献

Since in the case q > 1, q-Bernstein polynomials are not positive linear operators on C[0,1], the study of their approximation properties is essentially more difficult than that for 0<q<1. Despite the intensive research conducted in the area lately, the problem of describing the class of functions in C[0,1] uniformly approximated by their q-Bernstein polynomials (q > 1) remains open. It is known that the approximation occurs for functions admit ting an analytic continuation into a disc {z:|z| < R}, R > 1. For functions without such an assumption, no general results on approximation are available. In this paper, it is shown that the function f(x) = ln (x + a), a > 0, is uniformly approximated by its q-Bernstein polynomials (q > 1) on the interval [0,1] if and only if a ≥ 1.   相似文献

LetX be a complete intersection algebraic variety of codimensionm>1 in ℂ m+n . We define the notion of (p,q)-order and (p,q)-K-type for transcendental entire functionsfεO(ℂ m+n ) whereK is a non-pluripolar compact subset of ℂ m+n . Further, we consider the analogues of (p,q)-order and (p,q)-K-type inO(X). We discuss the series expansions of the functions inO(X) in terms of an orthogonal basis in a Hilbert spaceL 2(X, μ), where μ is a capacitary extremal measure onK. Let f ε Cn+1[−1, 1] and let H[f](x) be the nth degree weighted least squares polynomial approximation to f with respect to the orthonormal polynomials qk associated with a distribution dα on [−1, 1]. It is shown that if qn+1/qn max(qn+1(1)/qn(1), −qn+1(−1)/qn(−1)), then fH[f] fn + 1 · qn+1/qn + 1(n + 1), where · denotes the supremum norm. Furthermore, it is shown that in the case of Jacobi polynomials with distribution (1 − t)α (1 + t)β dt, α, β > −1, the condition on qn+1/qn is satisfied when either max(α,β) −1/2 or −1 < α = β < −1/2.  相似文献

If T (or T*) is an algebraically wF(p, r, q) operator with p, r > 0 and q ≥ 1 acting in an infinite-dimensional separable Hilbert space, then we prove that Weyl’s theorem holds for f(T) for any f ∈ Hol(σ(T)), where Hol(σ(T)) is the set of all analytic functions in an open neighborhood of σ(T). Moreover, if T* is a wF(p, r, q) operator with p, r > 0 and q ≥ 1, then the a-Weyl’s theorem holds for f(T). In addition, if T (or T*) is an algebraically wF(p, r, q) operator with p, r > 0 and q ≥ 1, then we establish the spectral mapping theorems for the Weyl spectrum and for the essential approximate point spectrum of T for any f ∈ Hol(σ(T)), respectively. Finally, we examine the stability of Weyl’s theorem and the a-Weyl’s theorem under commutative perturbations by finite-rank operators.  相似文献

Let Bn( f,q;x), n=1,2,… be q-Bernstein polynomials of a function f : [0,1]→C. The polynomials Bn( f,1;x) are classical Bernstein polynomials. For q≠1 the properties of q-Bernstein polynomials differ essentially from those in the classical case. This paper deals with approximating properties of q-Bernstein polynomials in the case q>1 with respect to both n and q. Some estimates on the rate of convergence are given. In particular, it is proved that for a function f analytic in {z: |z|<q+} the rate of convergence of {Bn( f,q;x)} to f(x) in the norm of C[0,1] has the order qn (versus 1/n for the classical Bernstein polynomials). Also iterates of q-Bernstein polynomials {Bnjn( f,q;x)}, where both n→∞ and jn→∞, are studied. It is shown that for q(0,1) the asymptotic behavior of such iterates is quite different from the classical case. In particular, the limit does not depend on the rate of jn→∞.  相似文献

Let fεLp(R), gεLq(R) with 1<p<∞, 1<q<∞ and let Hf, Hg be their respective Hilbert transforms. We give a simple proof of the identity Hf · Hgf · G = H(f · Hg + g · Hf) a.e. and of its inverse in the case (1/p) + (1/q) 1 which includes the cases already considered by Cossar and Tricomi. We next derive applications, especially to boundary values of analytic functions.  相似文献

The present paper is the first to prove that one of the columns of the monodromy matrix and two of the three coefficients (piecewise analytic on the interval [0, 1]) of the equation (f(x)y′)′+(r(x)−λ 2 q(x))y = 0 uniquely determine the third coefficient on this interval provided that the values of the functions f(x) and q(x) lie in the lower (or upper) open complex halfplane and on the positive part of the real axis. This unknown coefficient can be reconstructed by finding the unique zero minimum of a specially constructed functional depending on the solutions of the corresponding Cauchy problem and the given elements of the monodromy matrix.  相似文献
