We initiate the study of outer-2-independent domination in graphs. An outer-2-independent dominating set of a graph G is a set D of vertices of G such that every vertex of V(G)?D has a neighbor in D and the maximum vertex degree of the subgraph induced by V(G)?D is at most one. The outer-2-independent domination number of a graph G is the minimum cardinality of an outer-2-independent dominating set of G. We show that if a graph has minimum degree at least two, then its outer-2-independent domination number equals the number of vertices minus the 2-independence number. Then we investigate the outer-2-independent domination in graphs with minimum degree one. We also prove the Vizing-type conjecture for outer-2-independent domination and disprove the Vizing-type conjecture for outer-connected domination.  相似文献

An edge eE(G) dominates a vertex vV(G) if e is incident with v or e is incident with a vertex adjacent to v. An edge-vertex dominating set of a graph G is a set D of edges of G such that every vertex of G is edge-vertex dominated by an edge of D. The edge-vertex domination number of a graph G is the minimum cardinality of an edge-vertex dominating set of G. A subset D?V(G) is a total dominating set of G if every vertex of G has a neighbor in D. The total domination number of G is the minimum cardinality of a total dominating set of G. We characterize all trees with total domination number equal to edge-vertex domination number plus one.  相似文献

Let Γ t ? (G) be upper minus total domination number of G. In this paper, We establish an upper bound of the upper minus total domination number of a regular graph G and characterize the extremal graphs attaining the bound. Thus, we answer an open problem by Yan, Yang and Shan  相似文献

A sharp lower bound for the domination number and the total domination number of the direct product of finitely many complete graphs is given: . Sharpness is established in the case when the factors are large enough in comparison to the number of factors. The main result gives a lower bound for the domination (and the total domination) number of the direct product of two arbitrary graphs: γ(G×H)≥γ(G)+γ(H)−1. Infinite families of graphs that attain the bound are presented. For these graphs it also holds that γt(G×H)=γ(G)+γ(H)−1. Some additional parallels with the total domination number are made.  相似文献

A graph is 1-planar if it can be drawn on the plane so that each edge is crossed by at most one other edge. In this paper, we verify the total coloring conjecture for every 1-planar graph G if either Δ(G) ≥ 9 and g(G) ≥ 4, or Δ(G) ≥ 7 and g(G) ≥ 5, where Δ(G) is the maximum degree of G and g(G) is the girth of G.  相似文献

Let G be a graph and let its maximum degree and maximum average degree be denoted by Δ(G) and mad(G), respectively. A neighbor sum distinguishing k-edge colorings of graph G is a proper k-edge coloring of graph G such that, for any edge uvE(G), the sum of colors assigned on incident edges of u is different from the sum of colors assigned on incident edges of v. The smallest value of k in such a coloring of G is denoted by χ(G). Flandrin et al. proposed the following conjecture that χ (G) ≤ Δ(G) + 2 for any connected graph with at least 3 vertices and GC5. In this paper, we prove that the conjecture holds for a normal graph with mad(G) < \(\tfrac{{37}}{{12}}\) and Δ(G) ≥ 7.  相似文献

An edge-colored graph G is proper connected if every pair of vertices is connected by a proper path. The proper connection number of a connected graph G, denoted by pc(G), is the smallest number of colors that are needed to color the edges of G in order to make it proper connected. In this paper, we obtain the sharp upper bound for pc(G) of a general bipartite graph G and a series of extremal graphs. Additionally, we give a proper 2-coloring for a connected bipartite graph G having δ(G) ≥ 2 and a dominating cycle or a dominating complete bipartite subgraph, which implies pc(G) = 2. Furthermore, we get that the proper connection number of connected bipartite graphs with δ ≥ 2 and diam(G) ≤ 4 is two.  相似文献

A k-total coloring of a graph G is a mapping ?: V (G) ? E(G) → {1; 2,..., k} such that no two adjacent or incident elements in V (G) ? E(G) receive the same color. Let f(v) denote the sum of the color on the vertex v and the colors on all edges incident with v: We say that ? is a k-neighbor sum distinguishing total coloring of G if f(u) 6 ≠ f(v) for each edge uvE(G): Denote χ Σ (G) the smallest value k in such a coloring of G: Pil?niak and Wo?niak conjectured that for any simple graph with maximum degree Δ(G), χ Σ ≤ Δ(G)+3. In this paper, by using the famous Combinatorial Nullstellensatz, we prove that for K 4-minor free graph G with Δ(G) > 5; χ Σ = Δ(G) + 1 if G contains no two adjacent Δ-vertices, otherwise, χ Σ (G) = Δ(G) + 2.  相似文献

Let G and H be two graphs. We say that G induces H if G has an induced subgraph isomorphic to H: A. Gyárfás and D. Sumner, independently, conjectured that, for every tree T. there exists a function f T ; called binding function, depending only on T with the property that every graph G with chromatic number f T (ω(G)) induces T. A. Gyárfás, E. Szemerédi and Z. Tuza confirmed the conjecture for all trees of radius two on triangle-free graphs, and H. Kierstead and S. Penrice generalized the approach and the conclusion of A. Gyárfás et al. onto general graphs. A. Scott proved an interesting topological version of this conjecture asserting that for every integer k and every tree T of radius r, every graph G with ω(G) ? k and sufficient large chromatic number induces a subdivision of T of which each edge is subdivided at most O(14 r-1(r - 1)!) times. We extend the approach of A. Gyárfás and present a binding function for trees obtained by identifying one end of a path and the center of a star. We also improve A. Scott's upper bound by modifying his subtree structure and partition technique, and show that for every integer k and every tree T of radius r, every graph with ω(G) ? k and sufficient large chromatic number induces a subdivision of T of which each edge is subdivided at most O(6 r?2) times.  相似文献

Let ?: E(G) → {1, 2, · · ·, k} be an edge coloring of a graph G. A proper edge-k-coloring of G is called neighbor sum distinguishing if \(\sum\limits_{e \mathrel\backepsilon u} {\phi \left( e \right)} \ne \sum\limits_{e \mathrel\backepsilon v} {\phi \left( e \right)} \) for each edge uvE(G). The smallest value k for which G has such a coloring is denoted by χΣ(G), which makes sense for graphs containing no isolated edge (we call such graphs normal). It was conjectured by Flandrin et al. that χΣ(G) ≤ Δ(G) + 2 for all normal graphs, except for C5. Let mad(G) = \(\max \left\{ {\frac{{2\left| {E\left( h \right)} \right|}}{{\left| {V\left( H \right)} \right|}}|H \subseteq G} \right\}\) be the maximum average degree of G. In this paper, we prove that if G is a normal graph with Δ(G) ≥ 5 and mad(G) < 3 ? \(\frac{2}{{\Delta \left( G \right)}}\), then χΣ(G) ≤ Δ(G) + 1. This improves the previous results and the bound Δ(G) + 1 is sharp.  相似文献

In this work, we obtain good upper bounds for the diameter of any graph in terms of its minimum degree and its order, improving a classical theorem due to Erd¨os, Pach, Pollack and Tuza.We use these bounds in order to study hyperbolic graphs(in the Gromov sense). To compute the hyperbolicity constant is an almost intractable problem, thus it is natural to try to bound it in terms of some parameters of the graph. Let H(n, δ_0) be the set of graphs G with n vertices and minimum degree δ_0, and J(n, Δ) be the set of graphs G with n vertices and maximum degree Δ. We study the four following extremal problems on graphs: a(n, δ_0) = min{δ(G) | G ∈ H(n, δ_0)}, b(n, δ_0) = max{δ(G) |G ∈ H(n, δ_0)}, α(n, Δ) = min{δ(G) | G ∈ J(n, Δ)} and β(n, Δ) = max{δ(G) | G ∈ J(n, Δ)}. In particular, we obtain bounds for b(n, δ_0) and we compute the precise value of a(n, δ_0), α(n, Δ) andβ(n, Δ) for all values of n, δ_0 and Δ, respectively.  相似文献

For a simple graph G on n vertices and an integer k with 1 ? k ? n, denote by \(\mathcal{S}^+_k\) (G) the sum of k largest signless Laplacian eigenvalues of G. It was conjectured that \(\mathcal{S}^+_k(G)\leqslant{e}(G)+(^{k+1}_{\;\;2})\) (G) ? e(G) + (k+1 2), where e(G) is the number of edges of G. This conjecture has been proved to be true for all graphs when k ∈ {1, 2, n ? 1, n}, and for trees, unicyclic graphs, bicyclic graphs and regular graphs (for all k). In this note, this conjecture is proved to be true for all graphs when k = n ? 2, and for some new classes of graphs.  相似文献

The domination number γ(G) of a connected graph G of order n is bounded below by(n+2-e(G))/ 3 , where (G) denotes the maximum number of leaves in any spanning tree of G. We show that (n+2-e(G))/ 3 = γ(G) if and only if there exists a tree T ∈ T ( G) ∩ R such that n1(T ) = e(G), where n1(T ) denotes the number of leaves of T1, R denotes the family of all trees in which the distance between any two distinct leaves is congruent to 2 modulo 3, and T (G) denotes the set composed by the spanning trees of G. As a consequence of the study, we show that if (n+2-e(G))/ 3 = γ(G), then there exists a minimum dominating set in G whose induced subgraph is an independent set. Finally, we characterize all unicyclic graphs G for which equality (n+2-e(G))/ 3= γ(G) holds and we show that the length of the unique cycle of any unicyclic graph G with (n+2-e(G))/ 3= γ(G) belongs to {4} ∪ {3 , 6, 9, . . . }.  相似文献

Let G=(V,E) be a graph. A subset SV is a dominating set of G, if every vertex uVS is dominated by some vertex vS. The domination number, denoted by γ(G), is the minimum cardinality of a dominating set. For the generalized Petersen graph G(n), Behzad et al. [A. Behzad, M. Behzad, C.E. Praeger, On the domination number of the generalized Petersen graphs, Discrete Mathematics 308 (2008) 603-610] proved that and conjectured that the upper bound is the exact domination number. In this paper we prove this conjecture.  相似文献

We consider even factors with a bounded number of components in the n-times iterated line graphs L n (G). We present a characterization of a simple graph G such that L n (G) has an even factor with at most k components, based on the existence of a certain type of subgraphs in G. Moreover, we use this result to give some upper bounds for the minimum number of components of even factors in L n (G) and also show that the minimum number of components of even factors in L n (G) is stable under the closure operation on a claw-free graph G, which extends some known results. Our results show that it seems to be NP-hard to determine the minimum number of components of even factors of iterated line graphs. We also propose some problems for further research.  相似文献

An undirected graph G is locally irregular if every two of its adjacent vertices have distinct degrees. We say that G is decomposable into k locally irregular graphs if there exists a partition \(E_1 \cup E_2 \cup \cdots \cup E_k\) of the edge set E(G) such that each \(E_i\) induces a locally irregular graph. It was recently conjectured by Baudon et al. that every undirected graph admits a decomposition into at most three locally irregular graphs, except for a well-characterized set of indecomposable graphs. We herein consider an oriented version of this conjecture. Namely, can every oriented graph be decomposed into at most three locally irregular oriented graphs, i.e. whose adjacent vertices have distinct outdegrees? We start by supporting this conjecture by verifying it for several classes of oriented graphs. We then prove a weaker version of this conjecture. Namely, we prove that every oriented graph can be decomposed into at most six locally irregular oriented graphs. We finally prove that even if our conjecture were true, it would remain NP-complete to decide whether an oriented graph is decomposable into at most two locally irregular oriented graphs.  相似文献

In this paper we prove the following conjecture by Bollobás and Komlós: For every γ > 0 and integers r ≥ 1 and Δ, there exists β > 0 with the following property. If G is a sufficiently large graph with n vertices and minimum degree at least ((r ? 1)/r + γ)n and H is an r-chromatic graph with n vertices, bandwidth at most β n and maximum degree at most Δ, then G contains a copy of H.  相似文献

A (v, β o , μ)-design over regular graph G = (V, E) of degree d is an ordered pair D = (V, B), where |V| = v and B is the set of maximum independent sets of G called blocks such that if i, jV, ij and if i and j are not adjacent in G then there are exactly μ blocks containing i and j. In this paper, we study (v, β o , μ)-designs over the graphs K n × K n , T(n)-triangular graphs, L 2(n)-square lattice graphs, Petersen graph, Shrikhande graph, Clebsch graph and the Schläfli graph and non-existence of (v, β o , μ)-designs over the three Chang graphs T 1(8), T 2(8) and T 3(8).  相似文献

Let G be a digraph (without parallel edges) such that every directed cycle has length at least four; let β(G) denote the size of the smallest subset X ? E(G) such that G?X has no directed cycles, and let γ(G) be the number of unordered pairs {u, v} of vertices such that u, v are nonadjacent in G. It is easy to see that if γ(G) = 0 then β(G) = 0; what can we say about β(G) if γ(G) is bounded?
We prove that in general β(G) ≤ γ(G). We conjecture that in fact β(G) ≤ ½γ(G) (this would be best possible if true), and prove this conjecture in two special cases:
  • when V(G) is the union of two cliques
  • when the vertices of G can be arranged in a circle such that if distinct u, v, w are in clockwise order and uw is a (directed) edge, then so are both uv, vw.

A graph is nonsingular if its adjacency matrix A(G) is nonsingular. The inverse of a nonsingular graph G is a graph whose adjacency matrix is similar to A(G)?1 via a particular type of similarity. Let H denote the class of connected bipartite graphs with unique perfect matchings. Tifenbach and Kirkland (2009) characterized the unicyclic graphs in H which possess unicyclic inverses. We present a characterization of unicyclic graphs in H which possess bicyclic inverses.  相似文献
