We give a topological characterization of rational maps with disconnected Julia sets. Our results extend Thurston’s characterization of postcritically finite rational maps. In place of iteration on Teichmüller space, we use quasiconformal surgery and Thurston’s original result.  相似文献

Summary We examine the structure of hyperbolic components and some boundary points of these for degree two rational maps. Rather than using quasi-conformal deformation theory, we use a technique from a theorem of Thurston about the existence of rational maps. In 1980's, Thurston established a combinatorial characterization for post-critically finite rational maps among post-critically finite branched coverings of the two sphere to itself. A completed proof was written by Douady and Hubbard in their paper [A. Douady, J.H. Hubbard, A proof of Thurston's topological characterization of rational functions, Acta Math. 171 (1993) 263-297]. This criterion was then extended by Cui, Jiang, and Sullivan to sub-hyperbolic rational maps among sub-hyperbolic semi-rational branched coverings of the two sphere to itself. The goal of this paper is to present a new but simpler proof for the combinatorial characterization of sub-hyperbolic rational maps by adapting some arguments in the proof in Douady and Hubbard's paper.  相似文献

We investigate the uniform piecewise linearizing question for a family of Lorenz maps. Let f be a piecewise linear Lorenz map with different slopes and positive topological entropy, we show that f is conjugate to a linear mod one transformation and the conjugacy admits a dichotomy: it is either bi-Lipschitz or singular depending on whether f is renormalizable or not. f is renormalizable if and only if its rotation interval degenerates to be a rational point. Furthermore, if the endpoints are periodic points with the same rotation number, then the conjugacy is quasisymmetric.  相似文献

In this paper we show that any graph map without periodic points has only one minimal set. We describe a class of graph maps without periodic points. Our main result is to give a structure theorem of graph maps without periodic points, which states that any graph map without periodic points must be topologically conjugate to one of the described class. We present a systematic way to generate critically finite endomorphisms of PnPn. These maps arise in the context of Teichmüller theory, specifically in Thurston?s topological characterization of rational maps. The dynamical objects for the endomorphisms correspond to central objects from Thurston?s theorem. Our theorems build infinitely many of these endomorphisms; in fact, a large number of examples of critically finite endomorphisms of PnPn found in the literature arise from this construction.  相似文献

The aim of this article is to provide extensions of Edelstein's theorem for a class of contractive mappings, namely cyclic contractive mappings. We prove the existence and convergence of best proximity points of a cyclic contractive map. We also discuss continuity properties of cyclic contractive maps. We apply the Shishikura surgery construction to transcendental maps in order to obtain examples of meromorphic functions with Herman rings, in a variety of possible arrangements. We give a sharp bound on the maximum possible number of such rings that a meromorphic function may have, in terms of the number of poles. Finally we discuss the possibility of having “unbounded” Herman rings (i.e., with an essential singularity in the boundary), and give some examples of maps with this property.  相似文献

Let f be a postcritically finite branched self-cover of a 2-dimensional topological sphere. Such a map induces an analytic self-map σ f of a finite-dimensional Teichmüller space. We prove that this map extends continuously to the augmented Teichmüller space and give an explicit construction for this extension. This allows us to characterize the dynamics of Thurston’s pullback map near invariant strata of the boundary of the augmented Teichmüller space. The resulting classification of invariant boundary strata is used to prove a conjecture by Pilgrim and to infer further properties of Thurston’s pullback map. Our approach also yields new proofs of Thurston’s theorem and Pilgrim’s Canonical Obstruction theorem.  相似文献
