In the present article, a simple method is developed for approximating the reliability of Markov chain imbeddable systems. The approximating formula reduces the problem to the reliability assessment of smaller systems with structure similar to the original systems. Two specific reliability structures which have attracted considerable research interest recently (r-within-consecutive-k-out-of-n system and two dimensional r-within-k 1 × k 2-out-of-n 1 × n 2 system) are studied by the new approach and numerical calculations are carried out, which reveal the high quality of our approximations. Several possible extensions and generalizations are also presented in brief.  相似文献

This paper focuses on feature selection for problems dealing with high-dimensional data. We discuss the benefits of adopting a regularized approach with L 1 or L 1L 2 penalties in two different applications—microarray data analysis in computational biology and object detection in computer vision. We describe general algorithmic aspects as well as architecture issues specific to the two domains. The very promising results obtained show how the proposed approach can be useful in quite different fields of application.  相似文献

In this paper the author first introduce a new concept of L p -dual mixed volumes of star bodies which extends the classical dual mixed volumes. Moreover, we extend the notions of L p intersection body to L p -mixed intersection body. Inequalities for L p -dual mixed volumes of L p -mixed intersection bodies are established and the results established here provide new estimates for these type of inequalities. Let V be a closed surface, H⊑π1(V) a subgroup of finite index l and D=[A 1,...,A m ] a collection of partitions of a given number d≥2 with positive defect v(D). When does there exist a connected branched covering f:W→V of order d with branch data D and fWV It has been shown by geometric arguments [4] that, for l=1 and a surface V different from the sphere and the projective plane, the corresponding branched covering exists (the data D is realizable) if and only if the data D fulfills the Hurwitz congruence v(D)э0 mod 2. In the case l>1, the corresponding branched covering exists if and only if v(D)э0 mod 2, the number d/l is an integer, and each partition A i ∈D splits into the union of l partitions of the number d/l. Here we give a purely algebraic proof of this result following the approach of Hurwitz [11]. The realization problem for the projective plane and l=1 has been solved in [7,8]. The aim of this paper is to define the localization LM n -algebra of an LM n —algebra L with respect to a topology F on L; in Section 5 we prove that the maximal LM n -algebra of fractions (defined in [3]) and the LM n -algebra of fractions relative to an Λ—closed system (defined in Section 2) are LM n -algebras of localization.  相似文献

We interpret the Steinberg symbols xi,j(a) as homotopies contracting the elementary matrices ei,j(a), the latters being represented by certain arcs in a simplicial model of the K-theory. We further prove the Steinberg relations for these homotopies. This provides an explicit map from K2 of a ring, defined classically as ker(St(R) → GL(R)), to π2 of the G-construction assigned to R. Though the two groups are known to be isomorphic, a certain work is to be done to prove that this explicit map is an isomorphism. In this study a Shewhart type control chart namely the V t chart, is proposed for improved monitoring of the process variability of a quality characteristic of interest Y. The proposed control chart is based on the ratio type estimator of the variance using a single auxiliary variable X. It is assumed that (Y, X) follows a bivariate normal distribution. The design structure of the V t chart is developed for Phase-I quality control and its comparison is made with those of the S 2 chart (a well-known Shewhart control chart) and the V r chart (a Shewhart type control chart proposed by Riaz (Comput Stat, 2008a) used for the same purpose. It is observed that the proposed V t chart outperforms the S 2 and V r charts, in terms of discriminatory power, for detecting moderate to large shifts in the process variability. It is observed that the performance of the V t chart keeps improving with an increase in |ρ yx | , where ρ yx is the correlation between Y and X.  相似文献

By multidimensional matrix inversion, combined with an A r extension of Jackson’s 8 φ 7 summation formula by Milne, a new multivariable 8 φ 7 summation is derived. By a polynomial argument this 8 φ 7 summation is transformed to another multivariable 8 φ 7 summation which, by taking a suitable limit, is reduced to a new multivariable extension of the nonterminating 6 φ 5 summation. The latter is then extended, by analytic continuation, to a new multivariable extension of Bailey’s very-well-poised 6 ψ 6 summation formula. Lα (0 α 1) is a class of infinitely divisible distributions defined by restricting the measure in the Levy-Khinchin formula to a special form. When α = 1, Lα is just the classical class L. Several properties for Lα classes, which are similar to the most important properties for the class L, are established. Also, a conjecture of Wolfe about unimodality of some Lα distributions is disproved by giving a counterexample.  相似文献

Consider a multivariate mixture model where the random variables X 1, ..., X n given (1, ..., n ), are conditionally independent. Conditions are obtained under which different kinds of positive dependence hold among X i 's. We determine the L p discrepancy of the two-dimensional Hammersley point set in base b. These formulas show that the L p discrepancy of the Hammersley point set is not of best possible order with respect to the general (best possible) lower bound on L p discrepancies due to Roth and Schmidt. To overcome this disadvantage we introduce permutations in the construction of the Hammersley point set and show that there always exist permutations such that the L p discrepancy of the generalized Hammersley point set is of best possible order. For the L 2 discrepancy such permutations are given explicitly. Motivated by the study of invariant rings of finite groups on the first Weyl algebras A 1 and finding interesting families of new noetherian rings, a class of algebras similar to U(sl 2) was introduced and studied by Smith. Since the introduction of these algebras, research efforts have been focused on understanding their weight modules, and many important results were already obtained. But it seems that not much has been done on the part of nonweight modules. In this paper, we generalize Kostant’s results on the Whittaker model for the universal enveloping algebras U(g) of finite dimensional semisimple Lie algebras g to Smith’s algebras. As a result, a complete classification of irreducible Whittaker modules (which are definitely infinite dimensional) for Smith’s algebras is obtained, and the submodule structure of any Whittaker module is also explicitly described.   相似文献

The estimation of the asymptotic variance of sample median based on a random sample of univariate observations has been extensively studied in the literature. The appearance of a local object like the density function of the observations in this asymptotic variance makes its estimation a difficult task, and there are several complex technical problems associated with it. This paper explores the problem of estimating the dispersion matrix of the multivariateL 1 median. Though it is absolutely against common intuition, this problem turns out to be technically much simpler. We exhibit a simple estimate for the large sample dispersion matrix of the multivariateL 1 median with excellent asymptotic properties, and to construct this estimate, we do not use any of the computationally intensive resampling techniques (e.g. the generalized jackknife, the bootstrap, etc. that have been used and thoroughly investigated by leading statisticians in their attempts to estimate the asymptotic variance of univariate median). However surprising may it sound, our analysis exposes that most of the technical complicacies associated with the estimation of the sampling variation in the median are only characteristics of univariate data, and they disappear as soon as we enter into the realm of multivariate analysis.The research of the second author was partially supported by a Wisconsin Alumni Research Foundation Grant from University of Wisconsin, Madison.  相似文献

The ferromagnetic transition temperatures have been measured on two bathes of perovskite manganese oxides such as (La1-x R x )2/3Ca1/3MnO3(R=Ce, Pr, Nd, etc.) and La2/3(Ca1-y Cd y )1/3MnO3. It is found that the (La1-x R x )2/3Ca1/3MnO3 samples have obviously different Curie temperatureT C although their (rA) (the average A-site cation radius) are almost identical, and theT C in the system of (La1-x R x )2/3Ca1/3MnO3(R=Ce, Pr, Nd, etc.) and La2/3(Ca1-y Cd y )1/3MnO3. It is found that the (La1-x R x )2/3Ca1/3MnO3 compounds increases with increasingy although (rA) decreases slightly. It is suggested that the Curie temperature should be influenced by the average local A-site magnetic moment in the ferromagnetic perovskite manganite system. A robustified residual autocorrelation is defined based onL 1-regression. Under very general conditions, the asymptotic distribution of the robust residual autocorrelation is obtained. A robustified portmanteau statistic is then constructed which can be used in checking the goodness-of-fit of AR(p) models when usingL 1-norm fitting. Empirical results show thatL 1-norm estimators and the proposed portmanteau statistic are robust against outliers, error distributions, and accuracy for a given finite sample. In this paper we study the L p -discrepancy of digitally shifted Hammersley point sets. While it is known that the (unshifted) Hammersley point set (which is also known as Roth net) with N points has L p -discrepancy (p an integer) of order (log N)/N, we show that there always exists a shift such that the digitally shifted Hammersley point set has L p -discrepancy (p an even integer) of order which is best possible by a result of W. Schmidt. Further we concentrate on the case p = 2. We give very tight lower and upper bounds for the L 2-discrepancy of digitally shifted Hammersley point sets which show that the value of the L 2-discrepancy of such a point set mostly depends on the number of zero coordinates of the shift and not so much on the position of these.
