In this paper, we discuss the countable tightness of products of spaces which are quotient simages of locally separable metric spaces, or k-spaces with a star-countable k-network. The main result is that the following conditions are equivalent: (1) b = ω1; (2) t(Sω×Sω1) 〉 ω; (3) For any pair (X, Y), which are k-spaces with a point-countable k-network consisting of cosmic subspaces, t(X×Y)≤ω if and only if one of X, Y is first countable or both X, Y are locally cosmic spaces. Many results on the k-space property of products of spaces with certain k-networks could be deduced from the above theorem.  相似文献

Let Σ be a surface with a symplectic form, let φ be a symplectomorphism of Σ, and let Y be the mapping torus of φ. We show that the dimensions of moduli spaces of embedded pseudoholomorphic curves in ℝ×Y, with cylindrical ends asymptotic to periodic orbits of φ or multiple covers thereof, are bounded from above by an additive relative index. We deduce some compactness results for these moduli spaces.?This paper establishes some of the foundations for a program with Michael Thaddeus, to understand the Seiberg-Witten Floer homology of Y in terms of such pseudoholomorphic curves. Analogues of our results should also hold in three dimensional contact topology. Received November 2, 2000 / final version received December 16, 2001?Published online November 19, 2002  相似文献

Suppose that X and Y are Banach spaces complemented in each other with supplemented subspaces A and B. In 1996, W. T. Gowers solved the Schroeder–Bernstein problem for Banach spaces by showing that X is not necessarily isomorphic to Y. In this paper, we obtain some suitable conditions involving the spaces A and B to yield that X is isomorphic to Y or to provide that at least X m is isomorphic to Yn for some m, n ∈ IN*. So we get some decomposition methods in Banach spaces via supplemented subspaces resembling Pełczyński’s decomposition methods. In order to do this, we introduce several notions of Schroeder–Bernstein Quadruples acting on the spaces X, Y, A and B. Thus, we characterize them by using some Banach spaces recently constructed. We give sufficient conditions on Banach spaces X and Y so that their projective tensor product Xπ Y, their injective tensor product Xɛ Y, or the dual (Xπ Y)* contain complemented copies of ℓp.  相似文献

A classC of pointed spaces is called a cellular class if it is closed under weak equivalences, arbitrary wedges and pointed homotopy pushouts. The smallest cellular class containingX is denoted byC(X), and a partial order relation ≪ is defined by:XY ifY εC(X). In this text we investigate the sub partial order sets generated respectively by simply connected finite CW-complexes and by rational spaces. For rational spaces we prove a unique decomposition theorem, a density theorem and the existence of infinitely many non-comparable elements. We then prove the density theorem for a generic class of finite CW-complexes.  相似文献

We study the extremal structure of the dual unit balls of various operator spaces. Mainly, we show that the classes of [w*-] strongly exposed, [w*-] exposed, and denting points in the dual unit balls of spaces of compact operators between Banach spacesX andY are completely — and in a canonical way — determined by the corresponding classes of points in the unit balls of the (bi-)duals of the factor spacesX andY. Applications to the duality of operator spaces and differentiability properties of the norm in operator spaces are given.  相似文献

Let π:XY be the blowing up of the projective varietyY at s general points. Here we study the higher order secant varieties of the linearly normal embeddings ofX andY into projective spaces. We give conditions on the embedding ofY which imply that the firstt secant varieties of a related embedding ofX have the expected dimension.  相似文献

We investigate the Baire classification of mappings f: X × YZ, where X belongs to a wide class of spaces which includes all metrizable spaces, Y is a topological space, Z is an equiconnected space, which are continuous in the first variable. We show that for a dense set in X these mappings are functions of a Baire class α in the second variable.  相似文献

Let X, Y be Banach spaces and M be a linear subspace in X × Y = {{x, y}|x ∈ X, y ∈ Y }. We may view M as a multi-valued linear operator from X to Y by taking M (x) = {y|{x, y} ∈ M }. In this paper, we give several criteria for a single-valued operator from Y to X to be the metric generalized inverse of the multi-valued linear operator M . The principal tool in this paper is also the generalized orthogonal decomposition theorem in Banach spaces.  相似文献

We study continuous subadditive set-valued maps taking points of a linear space X to convex compact subsets of a linear space Y. The subadditivity means that φ(x 1 + x 2) ⊂ φ(x 1) + φ(x 2). We characterize all pairs of locally convex spaces (X, Y) for which any such map has a linear selection, i.e., there exists a linear operator A: XY such that Axφ(x), xX. The existence of linear selections for a class of subadditive maps generated by differences of a continuous function is proved. This result is applied to the Lipschitz stability problem for linear operators in Banach spaces.  相似文献

We show that, whenA generates aC-semigroup, then there existsY such that [M(C)] →YX, andA| Y , the restriction ofA toY, generates a strongly continuous semigroup, where ↪ means “is continuously embedded in” and ‖x[Im(C)]≡‖C −1 x‖. There also existsW such that [C(W)] →XW, and an operatorB such thatA=B| X andB generates a strongly continuous semigroup onW. If theC-semigroup is exponentially bounded, thenY andW may be chosen to be Banach spaces; in general,Y andW are Frechet spaces. If ρ(A) is nonempty, the converse is also true. We construct fractional powers of generators of boundedC-semigroups. We would like to thank R. Bürger for sending preprints, and the referee for pointing out reference [37]. IfX, Y are compact countable metric spaces such thatY contains no subset homeomorphic toX, then for any isomorphismΦ ofC(X) intoC(Y), ‖ φ ‖ ‖ φ−1 ‖≧3. This result and some variants of it are established here, and prove a special case of a conjecture raised in [1]. This is a part of the author’s Ph.D. Thesis prepared at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, under the supervision of Prof. J. Lindenstrauss. I wish to thank Prof. Lindenstrauss and Prof. A. Dvoretzky for their guidance and the interest they showed in this work.  相似文献

Solving the problem stated in Sichler and Trnková, Topol. Its Appl., 142: 159–179, 2004, we construct metrics μ, ν on a set P such that the spaces X=(P,μ) and Y=(P,ν) have the same monoid of all continuous selfmaps, the space Y is coconnected (in the sense that every continuous map Y×YY depends on at most one coordinate) while X is not. Also, properties of the forgetful functors Metr → Unif → Top are investigated for the “simultaneous variant” of the above problem. Suppose X and Y are Polish spaces with non-atomic Borel probability measures μ and ν and suppose that T and S are ergodic measure-preserving homeomorphisms of (X, μ) and (Y, ν). Then there are invariant G δ subsets X′ ⊂ X and Y′ ⊂ Y of full measure and a homeomorphism ϕ: X′ → Y′ which maps μ|X′ to ν|Y′ and maps T-orbits onto S-orbits. We also deal with the case where T and S preserve infinite invariant measures.  相似文献

Let X and Y be topological spaces such that an arbitrary mapping f: XY for which every preimage f −1 (G) of a set G open in Y is an F σ-set in X can be represented in the form of the pointwise limit of continuous mappings f n : XY. We study the problem of subspaces Z of the space Y for which the mappings f: XZ possess the same property. If (X, p) and (Y, q) are two asymmetric normed spaces, the set LC(X, Y) of all continuous linear mappings from (X, p) to (Y, q) is not necessarily a linear space, it is a cone. If X and Y are two Banach lattices and p and q are, respectively, their associated asymmetric norms (p(x) = ‖+‖, q(y) = ‖y +‖), we prove that the positive operators from X to Y are elements of the cone LC(X, Y). We also study the dual space of an asymmetric normed space and finally we give open mapping and closed graph type theorems in the framework of asymmetric normed spaces. The classical results for normed spaces follow as particular cases. We introduce a lower semicontinuous analog, L (X), of the well-studied space of upper semicontinuous set-valued maps with nonempty compact interval images. Because the elements of L (X) contain continuous selections, the space C(X) of real-valued continuous functions on X can be used to establish properties of L (X), such as the two interrelated main theorems. The first of these theorems, the Extension Theorem, is proved in this Part I. The Extension Theorem says that for binormal spaces X and Y, every bimonotone homeomorphism between C(X) and C(Y) can be extended to an ordered homeomorphism between L (X) and L (Y). The second main theorem, the Factorization Theorem, is proved in Part II. The Factorization Theorem says that for binormal spaces X and Y, every ordered homeomorphism between L (X) and L (Y) can be characterized by a unique factorization.  相似文献

Let X, Y be two Banach spaces. We say that Y is a quasi-quotient of X if there is a continuous operator R: X → Y such that its range, R(X), is dense in Y.  相似文献

We study linear systems, described by operators A, B, C for which the state space X is a Banach space. We suppose that − A generates a bounded analytic semigroup and give conditions for admissibility of B and C corresponding to those in G. Weiss’ conjecture. The crucial assumptions on A are boundedness of an H-calculus or suitable square function estimates, allowing to use techniques recently developed by N. Kalton and L. Weis. For observation spaces Y or control spaces U that are not Hilbert spaces we are led to a notion of admissibility extending previous considerations by C. Le Merdy. We also obtain a characterisation of wellposedness for the full system. We give several examples for admissible operators including point observation and point control. At the end we study a heat equation in X = Lp(Ω), 1 < p < ∞, with boundary observation and control and prove its wellposedness for several function spaces Y and U on the boundary ∂Ω.  相似文献
