This work studies the scattering problem on the real axis for the Sturm–Liouville equation with discontinuous leading coefficient and the real‐valued steplike potential q(x) that has different constant asymptotes as x → ± ∞ . We investigate the properties of the scattering data, obtain the main integral equations of the inverse scattering problem, and also give necessary and sufficient conditions characterizing the scattering data. We study the initial boundary value problem resulting from the linearization of the equations of ideal incompressible magnetohydrodynamics and the jump conditions on the hypersurface of tangential discontinuity (current–vortex sheet) about an unsteady piecewise smooth solution. Under some assumptions on the unperturbed flow, we prove an energy a priori estimate for the linearized problem. Since the so‐called loss of derivatives in the normal direction to the boundary takes place even for the constant coefficients linearized problem, for the variable coefficients problem and non‐planar current–vortex sheets the natural functional setting is provided by the anisotropic weighted Sobolev space W21,σ. The result of this paper is a necessary step to prove the local in time existence of solutions of the original non‐linear free boundary value problem. The uniqueness of the regular solution of this problem follows already from the a priori estimate we obtain for the linearized problem. Copyright © 2005 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

We consider a fully hyperbolic phase‐field model in this paper. Our model consists of a damped hyperbolic equation of second order with respect to the phase function χ(t) , which is coupled with a hyperbolic system of first order with respect to the relative temperature θ(t) and the heat flux vector q (t). We prove the well‐posedness of this system subject to homogeneous Neumann boundary condition and no‐heat flux boundary condition. Then, we show that this dynamical system is a dissipative one. Finally, using the celebrated ?ojasiewicz–Simon inequality and by constructing an auxiliary functional, we prove that the solution of this problem converges to an equilibrium as time goes to infinity. We also obtain an estimate of the decay rate to equilibrium. Copyright © 2008 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

We consider the inverse scattering problem of determining the shape of a partially coated obstacle D. To this end, we solve a scattering problem for the Helmholtz equation where the scattered field satisfies mixed Dirichlet–Neumann-impedance boundary conditions on the Lipschitz boundary of the scatterer D. Based on the analysis of the boundary integral system to the direct scattering problem, we propose how to reconstruct the shape of the obstacle D by using the linear sampling method.  相似文献

We consider the problem of the asymptotic behaviour in the L2‐norm of solutions of the Navier–Stokes equations. We consider perturbations to the rest state and to stationary motions. In both cases we study the initial‐boundary value problem in unbounded domains with non‐compact boundary. In particular, we deal with domains with varying and possibly divergent exits to infinity and aperture domains. Copyright © 2007 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

We present a Newton‐type method for reconstructing planar sound‐soft or perfectly conducting cracks from far‐field measurements for one time‐harmonic scattering with plane wave incidence. Our approach arises from a method suggested by Kress and Rundell (Inv. Probl. 2005; 21 (4):1207–1223) for an inverse boundary value problem for the Laplace equation. It was extended to inverse scattering problems for sound‐soft obstacles (Mathematical Methods in Scattering Theory and Biomedical Engineering. World Scientific: Singapore, 2006; 39–50) and for sound‐hard cracks (Inv. Probl. 2006; 22 (6)). In both cases it was shown that the method gives accurate reconstructions with reasonable stability against noisy data. The approach is based on a pair of nonlinear and ill‐posed integral equations for the unknown boundary. The integral equations are solved by linearization, i.e. by regularized Newton iterations. Numerical reconstructions illustrate the feasibility of the method. Copyright © 2007 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

A spectral problem for the Sturm–Liouville equation on the edges of an equilateral regular star‐tree with the Dirichlet boundary conditions at the pendant vertices and Kirchhoff and continuity conditions at the interior vertices is considered. The potential in the Sturm–Liouville equation is a real–valued square summable function, symmetrically distributed with respect to the middle point of any edge. If {λj}is a sequence of real numbers, necessary and sufficient conditions for {λj}to be the spectrum of the problem under consideration are established. In this paper, we are introducing pertinent Euler–Lagrange–Jensen type k‐quintic functional equations and investigate the ‘Ulam stability’ of these new k‐quintic functional mappings f:XY, where X is a real normed linear space and Y a real complete normed linear space. We also solve the Ulam stability problem for Euler–Lagrange–Jensen alternative k‐quintic mappings. Copyright © 2016 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

We consider an initial boundary‐value problem for the generalized Benjamin–Bona–Mahony equation. A three‐level conservative difference schemes are studied. The obtained algebraic equations are linear with respect to the values of unknown function for each new level. It is proved that the scheme is convergent with the convergence rate of order k – 1, when the exact solution belongs to the Sobolev space of order . © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. We propose and analyze a Crank–Nicolson quadrature Petrov–Galerkin (CNQPG) ‐spline method for solving semi‐linear second‐order hyperbolic initial‐boundary value problems. We prove second‐order convergence in time and optimal order H2 norm convergence in space for the CNQPG scheme that requires only linear algebraic solvers. We demonstrate numerically optimal order Hk, k = 0,1,2, norm convergence of the scheme for some test problems with smooth and nonsmooth nonlinearities. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. In this paper, we consider the Petrov–Galerkin spectral method for fourth‐order elliptic problems on rectangular domains subject to non‐homogeneous Dirichlet boundary conditions. We derive some sharp results on the orthogonal approximations in one and two dimensions, which play important roles in numerical solutions of higher‐order problems. By applying these results to a fourth‐order problem, we establish the H2‐error and L2‐error bounds of the Petrov–Galerkin spectral method. Numerical experiments are provided to illustrate the high accuracy of the proposed method and coincide well with the theoretical analysis. Copyright © 2013 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

We prove existence and uniqueness of strong solutions to a quasilinear parabolic‐elliptic system modelling an ionic exchanger. This chemical system consists of three phases connected with nonlinear boundary conditions. The most interesting difficulty of our problem manifests in the nonlinear transmission condition, as almost all quantities are non‐linearly involved in this boundary equation. Our approach is based on the contraction mapping principle, where maximal Lp‐regularity of the associated linear problem is used to obtain a fixed point equation of the starting problem. The Bitsadze–Samarskii type nonlocal boundary value problem for the differential equation in a Hilbert space H with the self‐adjoint positive definite operator A with a closed domain D(A) ? H is considered. Here, f(t) be a given abstract continuous function defined on [0,1] with values in H, φ and ψ be the elements of D(A), and λj are the numbers from the set [0,1]. The well‐posedness of the problem in Hölder spaces with a weight is established. The coercivity inequalities for the solution of the nonlocal boundary value problem for elliptic equations are obtained. The fourth order of accuracy difference scheme for approximate solution of the problem is presented. The well‐posedness of this difference scheme in difference analogue of Hölder spaces is established. For applications, the stability, the almost coercivity, and the coercivity estimates for the solutions of difference schemes for elliptic equations are obtained. The paper is devoted to the investigation of a parabolic partial differential equation with non‐local and time‐dependent boundary conditions arising from ductal carcinoma in situ model. Approximation solution of the present problem is implemented by the Ritz–Galerkin method, which is a first attempt at tackling parabolic equation with such non‐classical boundary conditions. In the process of dealing with the difficulty caused by integral term in non‐local boundary condition, we use a trick of introducing the transition function G(x,t) to convert non‐local boundary to another non‐classical boundary, which can be handled with the Ritz–Galerkin method. Illustrative examples are included to demonstrate the validity and applicability of the technique in this paper. Copyright © 2015 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

The purpose of this paper is to show existence of a solution of the Dirichlet problem for a nonlinear generalized Darcy–Forchheimer–Brinkman system in a bounded Lipschitz domain in , with small boundary datum in L2‐based Sobolev spaces. A useful intermediary result is the well‐posedness of the Poisson problem for a generalized Brinkman system in a bounded Lipschitz domain in , with Dirichlet boundary condition and data in L2‐based Sobolev spaces. We obtain this well‐posedness result by showing that the matrix type operator associated with the Poisson problem is an isomorphism. Then, we combine the well‐posedness result from the linear case with a fixed point theorem in order to show the existence of a solution of the Dirichlet problem for the nonlinear generalized Darcy–Forchheimer–Brinkman system. Some applications are also included. Copyright © 2014 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

The uniqueness of solutions to two inverse Sturm–Liouville problems using three spectra is proven, based on the uniqueness of the solution-pair to an overdetermined Goursat–Cauchy boundary value problem. We discuss the uniqueness of the potential for a Dirichlet boundary condition at an arbitrary interior node, and for a Robin boundary condition at an arbitrary interior node, whereas at the exterior nodes we have Dirichlet boundary conditions in both situations. Here we are particularly concerned with potential functions that are L2(0,a).  相似文献

We calculate spherical and parabolic wave functions for a charge–dyon system in the continuum spectrum. The coefficients of the spherical–parabolic and parabolic–spherical transformations are proportional to the generalized hypergeometric function 3 F 2(|1). We solve the quantum mechanical problem of the scattering of charged particles in the field of a dyon.  相似文献

We consider the scattering of an electromagnetic time‐harmonic plane wave by an infinite cylinder having a mixed open crack (or arc) in R2 as the cross section. The crack is made up of two parts, and one of the two parts is (possibly) coated by a material with surface impedance λ. We transform the scattering problem into a system of boundary integral equations by adopting a potential approach, and establish the existence and uniqueness of a weak solution to the system by the Fredholm theory. The state-of-the-art, large-scale numerical simulations of the scattering problem for the Helmholtz equation in two dimensions rely on iterative solvers for the Lippmann–Schwinger integral equation, with an optimal CPU time O(m 3 log(m)) for an m-by-m wavelength problem. We present a method to solve the same problem directly, as opposed to iteratively, with the obvious advantage in efficiency for multiple right-hand sides corresponding to distinct incident waves. Analytically, this direct method is a hierarchical, recursive scheme consisting of the so-called splitting and merging processes. Algebraically, it amounts to a recursive matrix decomposition, for a cost of O(m 3), of the discretized Lippmann–Schwinger operator. With this matrix decomposition, each back substitution requires only O(m 2 log(m)); therefore, a scattering problem with m incident waves can be solved, altogether, in O(m 3 log(m)) flops.  相似文献

We consider a kinematic dynamo model in a bounded interior simply connected region Ω and in an insulating exterior region . In the so‐called direct problem, the magnetic field B and the electric field E are unknown and are driven by a given incompressible flow field w . After eliminating E , a vector and a scalar potential ansatz for B in the interior and exterior domains, respectively, are applied, leading to a coupled interface problem. We apply a finite element approach in the bounded interior domain Ω, whereas a symmetric boundary element approach in the unbounded exterior domain Ωc is used. We present results on the well‐posedness of the continuous coupled variational formulation, prove the well‐posedness and stability of the semi‐discretized and fully discretized schemes, and provide quasi‐optimal error estimates for the fully discretized scheme.
