This paper presents the free vibration analysis of piezoelectric coupled annular plates with variable thickness on the basis of the Mindlin plate theory. No work has yet been done on piezoelectric laminated plates while the thickness is variable. Two piezoelectric layers are embedded on the upper and lower surfaces of the host plate. The host plate thickness is linearly increased in the radial direction while the piezoelectric layers thicknesses remain constant along the radial direction. Different combinations of three types of boundary conditions i.e. clamped, simply supported, and free end conditions are considered at the inner and outer edges of plate. The Maxwell static electricity equation in piezoelectric layers is satisfied using a quadratic distribution of electric potential along the thickness. The natural frequencies are obtained utilizing a Rayleigh–Ritz energy approach and are validated by comparing with those obtained by finite element analysis. A good compliance is observed between numerical solution and finite element analysis. Convergence study is performed in order to verify the numerical stability of the present method. The effects of different geometrical parameters such as the thickness of piezoelectric layers and the angle of host plate on the natural frequencies of the assembly are investigated.  相似文献

In this paper, buckling and free vibration behavior of a piezoelectric rotating cylindrical carbon nanotube-reinforced (CNTRC) shell is investigated. Both cases of uniform distribution (UD) and FG distribution patterns of reinforcements are studied. The accuracy of the presented model is verified with previous studies and also with those obtained by Navier analytical method. The novelty of this study is investigating the effects of critical voltage and CNT reinforcement as well as satisfying various boundary conditions implemented on the piezoelectric rotating cylindrical CNTRC shell. The governing equations and boundary conditions have been developed using Hamilton's principle and are solved with the aid of Navier and generalized differential quadrature (GDQ) methods. In this research, the buckling phenomena in the piezoelectric rotating cylindrical CNTRC shell occur as the natural frequency is equal to zero. The results show that, various types of CNT reinforcement, length to radius ratio, external voltage, angular velocity, initial hoop tension and boundary conditions play important roles on critical voltage and natural frequency of piezoelectric rotating cylindrical CNTRC shell.  相似文献

Based on the first order shear deformation theory, free vibration behavior of functionally graded (FG) annular sector plates integrated with piezoelectric layers is investigated. The distribution of electric potential along the thickness direction of piezoelectric layers which is assumed to be a combination of linear and sinusoidal functions, satisfies both open and closed circuit electrical boundary conditions. Through a reformulation of governing equations and harmonic motion assumption, a novel decoupling method is suggested to transform the six second order coupled partial differential equations of motion into two eighth order and fourth order equations. A Fourier series method is then employed to present analytical solutions for free vibration of smart FG annular sector plates with simply supported radial edges and arbitrarily supported circular edges. The results, which can be used as a benchmark and suitable for design purposes, are verified with those reported in the literature. Finally, by presenting extensive ranges of frequencies, the effects of geometric parameters, power law index, FG and piezoelectric materials, electrical and mechanical boundary conditions as well as the piezoelectric layer thickness on vibration response of smart annular sector plates are discussed in detail.  相似文献

Closed-form solutions for free vibration analysis of orthotropic plates are obtained in this paper based on two variable refined plate theory. The theory, which has strong similarity with classical plate theory in many aspects, accounts for a quadratic variation of the transverse shear strains across the thickness, and satisfies the zero traction boundary conditions on the top and bottom surfaces of the plate without using shear correction factors. Equations of motion are derived from the Hamilton’s principle. The closed-form solutions of rectangular plates with two opposite edges simply supported and the other two edges having arbitrary boundary conditions are obtained by applying the state space approach to the Levy-type solution. Comparison studies are performed to verify the validity of the present results. The effects of boundary condition, and variations of modulus ratio, aspect ratio, and thickness ratio on the natural frequency of orthotropic plates are investigated and discussed in detail.  相似文献

In this paper, a relatively new semi-analytical method, called differential transformation method (DTM), is generalized to analyze the free vibration problem of pipes conveying fluid with several typical boundary conditions. The natural frequencies and critical flow velocities are obtained using DTM. The results are compared with those predicted by the differential quadrature method (DQM) and with other results reported in the literature. It is demonstrated that the DTM has high precision and computational efficiency in the vibration analysis of pipes conveying fluid.  相似文献

The free vibration response of single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) is investigated in this work using various nonlocal beam theories. To this end, the nonlocal elasticity equations of Eringen are incorporated into the various classical beam theories namely as Euler-Bernoulli beam theory (EBT), Timoshenko beam theory (TBT), and Reddy beam theory (RBT) to consider the size-effects on the vibration analysis of SWCNTs. The generalized differential quadrature (GDQ) method is employed to discretize the governing differential equations of each nonlocal beam theory corresponding to four commonly used boundary conditions. Then molecular dynamics (MD) simulation is implemented to obtain fundamental frequencies of nanotubes with different chiralities and values of aspect ratio to compare them with the results obtained by the nonlocal beam models. Through the fitting of the two series of numerical results, appropriate values of nonlocal parameter are derived relevant to each type of chirality, nonlocal beam model, and boundary conditions. It is found that in contrast to the chirality, the type of nonlocal beam model and boundary conditions make difference between the calibrated values of nonlocal parameter corresponding to each one.  相似文献

Microtubules (MTs) are a central part of the cytoskeleton in eukaryotic cells. The dynamic behaviors of MTs are of great interest in biomechanics. Many researchers have studied the vibration analysis of MTs by modeling them as an orthotropic cylindrical elastic shell and the exact solution to its displacements is investigated under simply supported boundary conditions. Other boundary conditions lead to some coupled equations, which there are no exact solution to them. Considering various boundary conditions requires implementing semi-analytic or numerical methods. In this study, the differential quadrature method (DQM) has been used to solve the nonlinear problem of seeking fundamental frequency. At first to verify the DQM results, this method has been applied to the equations of MTs under simply supported boundary condition. The coincidence of the exact solution results and the results of DQM shows the effectiveness and precision of this method. After verification, DQM has been used for the other boundary conditions. These boundary conditions are including clamped–clamped (CC), clamped–simply (CS), clamped–free (CF) and free–free (FF) constraints. Finally, the effect of edges boundary condition, radius of MTs and half wave numbers on the vibration behavior of MTs is considered.  相似文献

Recently, the present authors proposed a simple mixed Ritz-differential quadrature (DQ) methodology for free and forced vibration, and buckling analysis of rectangular plates. In this technique, the Ritz method is first used to discretize the spatial partial derivatives with respect to a coordinate direction of the plate. The DQ method is then employed to analogize the resulting system of ordinary or partial differential equations. The mixed method was shown to work well for vibration and buckling problems of rectangular plates with simple boundary conditions. But, due to the use of conventional Ritz method in one coordinate direction of the plate, the geometric boundary conditions of the problem can only be satisfied in that direction. Therefore, the conventional mixed Ritz-DQ methodology may encounter difficulties when dealing with rectangular plates involving adjacent free edges and skew plates. To overcome this difficulty, this paper presents a modified mixed Ritz-DQ formulation in which all the natural boundary conditions are exactly implemented. The versatility, accuracy and efficiency of the proposed method for free vibration analysis of thick rectangular and skew plates are tested against other solution procedures. It is revealed that the proposed method can produce highly accurate solutions for the natural frequencies of thick rectangular plates involving adjacent free edges and skew plates using a small number Ritz terms and DQ sampling points.  相似文献

The free bending vibration of rotating axially functionally graded (FG) Timoshenko tapered beams (TTB) with different boundary conditions are studied using Differential Transformation method (DTM) and differential quadrature element method of lowest order (DQEL). These two methods are capable of modelling any beam whose cross sectional area, moment of inertia and material properties vary along the beam. In order to verify the competency of these two methods, natural frequencies are obtained for problems by considering the effect of material non-homogeneity, taper ratio, shear deformation parameter, rotating speed parameter, hub radius and tip mass. The results are tabulated and compared with the previous published results wherever available.  相似文献

Nonlinear vibration analysis of circular cylindrical shells has received considerable attention from researchers for many decades. Analytical approaches developed to solve such problem, even not involved simplifying assumptions, are still far from sufficiency, and an efficient numerical scheme capable of solving the problem is worthy of development. The present article aims at devising a novel numerical solution strategy to describe the nonlinear free and forced vibrations of cylindrical shells. For this purpose, the energy functional of the structure is derived based on the first-order shear deformation theory and the von–Kármán geometric nonlinearity. The governing equations are discretized employing the generalized differential quadrature (GDQ) method and periodic differential operators along axial and circumferential directions, respectively. Then, based on Hamilton's principle and by the use of variational differential quadrature (VDQ) method, the discretized nonlinear governing equations are obtained. Finally, a time periodic discretization is performed and the frequency response of the cylindrical shell with different boundary conditions is determined by applying the pseudo-arc length continuation method. After revealing the efficiency and accuracy of the proposed numerical approach, comprehensive results are presented to study the influences of the model parameters such as thickness-to-radius, length-to-radius ratios and boundary conditions on the nonlinear vibration behavior of the cylindrical shells. The results indicate that variation of fundamental vibrational mode shape significantly affects frequency response curves of cylindrical shells.  相似文献

A ten-node triangular shell element of thirty degrees of freedom was successfully developed and applied to plate and shell static analysis, and free vibrations of rectangular plates with different boundary conditions. The element is also suitable for the vibration analysis of pretwisted and cambered fan blades. Natural frequencies of cambered and untwisted fan blades having a rectangular planform with constant thickness are determined for different shallowness ratio and blade thickness. For different blade-tip twist angles, the element can be applied to obtain the frequencies of twisted blades with constant thickness. Frequencies, resulting from the applied element, are compared to those of experimental results which are available in literature, and to those of shallow shell theory and other finite elements. Good correlations and reasonably accurate results are obtained by using a coarse mesh size.  相似文献

This paper presents an efficient and accurate differential quadrature (DQ) large amplitude free vibration analysis of laminated composite thin beams on nonlinear elastic foundation. Beams under consideration have elastically restrained against rotation and in-plane immovable edges. Elastic foundation has cubic nonlinearity with shearing layer. We impose the boundary conditions directly into the governing equations in spite of the conventional DQ method and without any extra efforts. A direct iterative method is used to solve the nonlinear eigenvalue system of equations after transforming the governing equations into the frequency domain. The fast rate of convergence of the method is shown and their accuracy is demonstrated by comparing the results with those for limit cases, i.e. beams with classical boundary conditions, available in the literature. Besides, we develop a finite element program to verify the results of the presented DQ approach and to show its high computational efficiency. The effects of different parameters on the ratio of nonlinear to linear natural frequency of beams are studied.  相似文献

This paper applies the asymptotic perturbation approach (APA) to obtain a simple analytical expression for the free vibration analysis of non-uniform and non-homogenous beams with different boundary conditions. A linear governing equation of non-uniform and non-homogeneous beams is obtained based on the Euler–Bernoulli beam theory. The perturbative theory is employed to derive an asymptotic solution of the natural frequency of the beam. Finally, numerical solutions based on the analytical method are illustrated, where the effect of a variable width ratio on the natural frequency is analyzed. To verify the accuracy of the present method, two examples, piezoelectric laminated trapezoidal beam and axially functionally graded tapered beam, are presented. The results are compared with those results obtained from the finite element method (FEM) simulation and the published literature, respectively, and a good agreement is observed for lower-order beam frequencies.  相似文献

Based on the framework of the Flügge's shell theory, the transfer matrix approach and the Romberg integration method, this paper presents the vibration behavior of an isotropic and orthotropic oval cylindrical shell with parabolically varying thickness along its circumference. The governing equations of motion of the shell, which have variable coefficients are formulated and solved. The analysis is formulated to overcome the mathematical difficulties related to mode coupling, which comes from variable curvature and thickness of shell. The vibration equations of the shell are reduced to eight first‐order differential equations in the circumferential coordinate and by using the transfer matrix of the shell, these equations can be written in a matrix differential equation. The proposed model is adopted to get the vibration frequencies and the corresponding mode shapes for the symmetrical and antisymmetrical modes of vibration. The sensitivity of the frequency parameters and the bending deformations to the shell geometry, ovality parameter, thickness ratio, and orthotropic parameters corresponding to different type modes of vibration is investigated. A novel matrix method is further developed for a liquid-filled circular cylindrical shell with partially constrained layer damping (CLD), which consists of treating liquid domain with Bessel function approach, and shell domain with transfer matrix equation based on a new set of first order matrix differential equation. In order to indicate its advantage to the finite element method (FEM), free vibration analysis on such an empty shell under clamped–clamped boundary are carried out by using the present method together with FEM. Meanwhile, coincident result is yielded for the liquid-filled shell by adopting the present method with by other transfer matrix method. Finally, a series of valuable numerical results are obtained by this method.  相似文献

Dynamic analysis of multi-directional functionally graded annular plates is achieved in this paper using a semi-analytical numerical method entitled the state space-based differential quadrature method. Based on the three-dimensional elastic theory and assuming the material properties having an exponent-law variation along the thickness, radial direction or both directions, the frequency equations of free vibration of multi-directional functionally graded annular plates are derived under various boundary conditions. Numerical examples are presented to validate the approach and the superiority of this method is also demonstrated. Then free vibration of functionally graded annular plates is studied for different variations of material properties along the thickness, radial direction and both directions, respectively. And the influences of the material property graded variations on the dynamic behavior are also investigated. The multi-directional graded material can likely be designed according to the actual requirement and it is a potential alternative to the unidirectional functionally graded material.

Studies are made on nonlinear free vibrations of simply supported piezo-laminated rectangular plates with immovable edges utilizing Kirchoff’s hypothesis and von Kármán strain–displacement relations. The effect of random material properties of the base structure and actuation electric potential difference on the nonlinear free vibration of the plate is examined. The study is confined to linear-induced strain in the piezoelectric layer applicable to low electric fields. The von Kármán’s large deflection equations for generally laminated elastic plates are derived in terms of stress function and transverse deflection function. A deflection function satisfying the simply supported boundary conditions is assumed and a stress function is then obtained after solving the compatibility equation. Applying the modified Galerkin’s method to the governing nonlinear partial differential equations, a modal equation of Duffing’s type is obtained. It is solved by exact integration. Monte Carlo simulation has been carried out to examine the response statistics considering the material properties and actuation electric potential difference of the piezoelectric layer as random variables. The extremal values of response are also evaluated utilizing the Convex model as well as the Multivariate method. Results obtained through the different statistical approaches are found to be in good agreement with each other.  相似文献
