In this paper we introduce generalized S-estimators for the multivariate regression model. This class of estimators combines high robustness and high efficiency. They are defined by minimizing the determinant of a robust estimator of the scatter matrix of differences of residuals. In the special case of a multivariate location model, the generalized S-estimator has the important independence property, and can be used for high breakdown estimation in independent component analysis. Robustness properties of the estimators are investigated by deriving their breakdown point and the influence function. We also study the efficiency of the estimators, both asymptotically and at finite samples. To obtain inference for the regression parameters, we discuss the fast and robust bootstrap for multivariate generalized S-estimators. The method is illustrated on a real data example.  相似文献

This paper develops estimation approaches for nonparametric regression analysis with surrogate data and validation sampling when response variables are measured with errors. Without assuming any error model structure between the true responses and the surrogate variables, a regression calibration kernel regression estimate is defined with the help of validation data. The proposed estimator is proved to be asymptotically normal and the convergence rate is also derived. A simulation study is conducted to compare the proposed estimators with the standard Nadaraya-Watson estimators with the true observations in the validation data set and the complete observations, respectively. The Nadaraya-Watson estimator with the complete observations can serve as a gold standard, even though it is practically unachievable because of the measurement errors.  相似文献

This paper focuses on robust estimation in the structural errors-in-variables (EV) model. A new class of robust estimators, called weighted orthogonal regression estimators, is introduced. Robust estimators of the parameters of the EV model are simply derived from robust estimators of multivariate location and scatter such as the M-estimators, the S-estimators and the MCD estimator. The influence functions of the proposed estimators are calculated and shown to be bounded. Moreover, we derive the asymptotic distributions of the estimators and illustrate the results on simulated examples and on a real-data set.  相似文献

This paper studies the existence of the uniformly minimum risk unbiased (UMRU) estimators of parameters in a class of linear models with an error vector having multivariate normal distribution or t-distribution, which include the growth curve model, the extended growth curve model, the seemingly unrelated regression equations model, the variance components model, and so on. The necessary and sufficient existence conditions are established for UMRU estimators of the estimable linear functions of regression coefficients under convex losses and matrix losses, respectively. Under the (extended) growth curve model and the seemingly unrelated regression equations model with normality assumption, the conclusions given in the literature can be derived by applying the general results in this paper. For the variance components model, the necessary and sufficient existence conditions are reduced as terse forms.  相似文献

This paper investigates the rate of convergence of estimating the regression weight function in a functional linear regression model. It is assumed that the predictor as well as the weight function are smooth and periodic in the sense that the derivatives are equal at the boundary points. Assuming that the functional data are observed at discrete points with measurement error, the complex Fourier basis is adopted in estimating the true data and the regression weight function based on the penalized least-squares criterion. The rate of convergence is then derived for both estimators. A simulation study is also provided to illustrate the numerical performance of our approach, and to make a comparison with the principal component regression approach.  相似文献

In this paper we investigate the admissibility of linear estimators in the multivariate linear model with respect to inequality constraints under matrix loss function. The necessary and sufficient conditions for a linear estimator to be admissible in the class of homogeneous linear estimators and the class of inhomogeneous linear estimators are obtained, respectively.  相似文献

On the conic section fitting problem   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
Adjusted least squares (ALS) estimators for the conic section problem are considered. Consistency of the translation invariant version of ALS estimator is proved. The similarity invariance of the ALS estimator with estimated noise variance is shown. The conditions for consistency of the ALS estimator are relaxed compared with the ones of the paper Kukush et al. [Consistent estimation in an implicit quadratic measurement error model, Comput. Statist. Data Anal. 47(1) (2004) 123-147].  相似文献

This paper studies improvements of multivariate local linear regression. Two intuitively appealing variance reduction techniques are proposed. They both yield estimators that retain the same asymptotic conditional bias as the multivariate local linear estimator and have smaller asymptotic conditional variances. The estimators are further examined in aspects of bandwidth selection, asymptotic relative efficiency and implementation. Their asymptotic relative efficiencies with respect to the multivariate local linear estimator are very attractive and increase exponentially as the number of covariates increases. Data-driven bandwidth selection procedures for the new estimators are straightforward given those for local linear regression. Since the proposed estimators each has a simple form, implementation is easy and requires much less or about the same amount of effort. In addition, boundary corrections are automatic as in the usual multivariate local linear regression.  相似文献

The problem of estimating linear functionals based on Gaussian observations is considered. Probabilistic error is used as a measure of accuracy and attention is focused on the construction of adaptive estimators which are simultaneously near optimal under probabilistic error over a collection of convex parameter spaces. In contrast to mean squared error it is shown that fully rate optimal adaptive estimators can be constructed for probabilistic error. A general construction of such estimators is provided and examples are given to illustrate the general theory.  相似文献

In this paper, we consider a linear mixed-effects model with measurement errors in both fixed and random effects and find the moment of estimators for the parameters of interest. The strong consistency and asymptotic normality of the estimators are obtained under regularity conditions. Moreover, we obtain the strong consistent estimators of the asymptotic covariance matrices involved in the limiting theory. Simulations are reported for illustration.  相似文献

A finite sample performance measure of multivariate location estimators is introduced based on “tail behavior”. The tail performance of multivariate “monotone” location estimators and the halfspace depth based “non-monotone” location estimators including the Tukey halfspace median and multivariate L-estimators is investigated. The connections among the finite sample performance measure, the finite sample breakdown point, and the halfspace depth are revealed. It turns out that estimators with high breakdown point or halfspace depth have “appealing” tail performance. The tail performance of the halfspace median is very appealing and also robust against underlying population distributions, while the tail performance of the sample mean is very sensitive to underlying population distributions. These findings provide new insights into the notions of the halfspace depth and breakdown point and identify the important role of tail behavior as a quantitative measure of robustness in the multivariate location setting.  相似文献

A new approach of estimating parameters in multivariate models is introduced. A fitting function will be used. The idea is to estimate parameters so that the fitting function equals or will be close to its expected value. The function will be decomposed into two parts. From one part, which will be independent of the mean parameters, the dispersion matrix is estimated. This estimator is inserted in the second part which then yields the estimators of the mean parameters. The Growth Curve model, extended Growth Curve model and a multivariate variance components model will illustrate the approach.  相似文献

Consider a varying-coefficient single-index model which consists of two parts: the linear part with varying coefficients and the nonlinear part with a single-index structure, and are hence termed as varying-coefficient single-index models. This model includes many important regression models such as single-index models, partially linear single-index models, varying-coefficient model and varying-coefficient partially linear models as special examples. In this paper, we mainly study estimating problems of the varying-coefficient vector, the nonparametric link function and the unknown parametric vector describing the single-index in the model. A stepwise approach is developed to obtain asymptotic normality estimators of the varying-coefficient vector and the parametric vector, and estimators of the nonparametric link function with a convergence rate. The consistent estimator of the structural error variance is also obtained. In addition, asymptotic pointwise confidence intervals and confidence regions are constructed for the varying coefficients and the parametric vector. The bandwidth selection problem is also considered. A simulation study is conducted to evaluate the proposed methods, and real data analysis is also used to illustrate our methods.  相似文献

The problem of estimating the precision matrix of a multivariate normal distribution model is considered with respect to a quadratic loss function. A number of covariance estimators originally intended for a variety of loss functions are adapted so as to obtain alternative estimators of the precision matrix. It is shown that the alternative estimators have analytically smaller risks than the unbiased estimator of the precision matrix. Through numerical studies of risk values, it is shown that the new estimators have substantial reduction in risk. In addition, we consider the problem of the estimation of discriminant coefficients, which arises in linear discriminant analysis when Fisher's linear discriminant function is viewed as the posterior log-odds under the assumption that two classes differ in mean but have a common covariance matrix. The above method is also adapted for this problem in order to obtain improved estimators of the discriminant coefficients under the quadratic loss function. Furthermore, a numerical study is undertaken to compare the properties of a collection of alternatives to the “unbiased” estimator of the discriminant coefficients.  相似文献

We give a sufficient condition for admissibility of generalized Bayes estimators of the location vector of spherically symmetric distribution under squared error loss. Compared to the known results for the multivariate normal case, our sufficient condition is very tight and is close to being a necessary condition. In particular, we establish the admissibility of generalized Bayes estimators with respect to the harmonic prior and priors with slightly heavier tail than the harmonic prior. We use the theory of regularly varying functions to construct a sequence of smooth proper priors approaching an improper prior fast enough for establishing the admissibility. We also discuss conditions of minimaxity of the generalized Bayes estimator with respect to the harmonic prior.  相似文献

Evaluation of reproducibility is important in assessing whether a new method or instrument can reproduce the results from a traditional gold standard approach. In this paper, we propose a measure to assess measurement agreement for functional data which are frequently encountered in medical research and many other research fields. Formulae to compute the standard error of the proposed estimator and confidence intervals for the proposed measure are derived. The estimators and the coverage probabilities of the confidence intervals are empirically tested for small-to-moderate sample sizes via Monte Carlo simulations. A real data example in physiology study is used to illustrate the proposed statistical inference procedures.  相似文献

MOMENT ESTIMATION FOR MULTIVARIATE EXTREME VALUE DISTRIBUTION   总被引:8,自引:0,他引:8
Moment estimation for multivariate extreme value distribution is described in this paper. Asymptotic covariance matrix of the estimators is given. The relative efficiencies of moment estimators as compared with the maximum likelihood and the stepwise estimators are computed. We show that when there is strong dependence between the variates, the generalized variance of moment estimators is much lower than the stepwise estimators. It becomes more obvious when the dimension increases.  相似文献
