Let S={x1,…,xn} be a set of n distinct positive integers. For x,yS and y<x, we say the y is a greatest-type divisor of x in S if yx and it can be deduced that z=y from yz,zx,z<x and zS. For xS, let GS(x) denote the set of all greatest-type divisors of x in S. For any arithmetic function f, let (f(xi,xj)) denote the n×n matrix having f evaluated at the greatest common divisor (xi,xj) of xi and xj as its i,j-entry and let (f[xi,xj]) denote the n×n matrix having f evaluated at the least common multiple [xi,xj] of xi and xj as its i,j-entry. In this paper, we assume that S is a gcd-closed set and . We show that if f is a multiplicative function such that (fμ)(d)∈Z whenever and f(a)|f(b) whenever a|b and a,bS and (f(xi,xj)) is nonsingular, then the matrix (f(xi,xj)) divides the matrix (f[xi,xj]) in the ring Mn(Z) of n×n matrices over the integers. As a consequence, we show that (f(xi,xj)) divides (f[xi,xj]) in the ring Mn(Z) if (fμ)(d)∈Z whenever and f is a completely multiplicative function such that (f(xi,xj)) is nonsingular. This confirms a conjecture of Hong raised in 2004.  相似文献

The two dimensional diffusion equation of the form is considered in this paper. We try a bi-cubic spline function of the form as its solution. The initial coefficients Ci,j(0) are computed simply by applying a collocation method; Ci,j = f(xiyj) where f(xy) = u(xy, 0) is the given initial condition. Then the coefficients Ci,j(t) are computed by X(t) = etQX(0) where X(t) = (C0,1C0,1C0,2, … , C0,NC1,0, … , CN,N) is a one dimensional array and the square matrix Q is derived from applying the Galerkin’s method to the diffusion equation. Note that this expression provides a solution that is not necessarily separable in space coordinates x, y. The results of sample calculations for a few example problems along with the calculation results of approximation errors for a problem with known analytical solution are included.  相似文献

Let f1,…,fd be an orthogonal basis for the space of cusp forms of even weight 2k on Γ0(N). Let L(fi,s) and L(fi,χ,s) denote the L-function of fi and its twist by a Dirichlet character χ, respectively. In this note, we obtain a “trace formula” for the values at integers m and n with 0<m,n<2k and proper parity. In the case N=1 or N=2, the formula gives us a convenient way to evaluate precisely the value of the ratio L(f,χ,m)/L(f,n) for a Hecke eigenform f.  相似文献

Our starting point is the proof of the following property of a particular class of matrices. Let T={Ti,j} be a n×m non-negative matrix such that ∑jTi,j=1 for each i. Suppose that for every pair of indices (i,j), there exists an index l such that Ti,lTj,l. Then, there exists a real vector k=(k1,k2,…,km)T,kikj,ij;0<ki?1, such that, if ij.Then, we apply that property of matrices to probability theory. Let us consider an infinite sequence of linear functionals , corresponding to an infinite sequence of probability measures {μ(·)(i)}iN, on the Borel σ-algebra such that, . The property of matrices described above allows us to construct a real bounded one-to-one piecewise continuous and continuous from the left function f such that

The matrix A = (aij) ∈ Sn is said to lie on a strict undirected graph G if aij = 0 (i ≠ j) whenever (ij) is not in E(G). If S is skew-symmetric, the isospectral flow maintains the spectrum of A. We consider isospectral flows that maintain a matrix A(t) on a given graph G. We review known results for a graph G that is a (generalised) path, and construct isospectral flows for a (generalised) ring, and a star, and show how a flow may be constructed for a general graph. The analysis may be applied to the isospectral problem for a lumped-mass finite element model of an undamped vibrating system. In that context, it is important that the flow maintain other properties such as irreducibility or positivity, and we discuss whether they are maintained.  相似文献

A simple and flexible iterative method is proposed to determine the real or complex roots of any system of nonlinear equations F(x)=0. The idea is based on passing defined functions Gj(xj),j=1,…,n tangent to Fi(xj),i,j=1,…,n at an arbitrary starting point. Choosing Gj(xj) in the form of or or any other reversible function compatible to Fi(xj), where k is obtained for the best correlation with the function Fi(xj), gives an added freedom, which in contrast with all existing methods, accelerates the convergence. The method that was first proposed for computing the roots of any single function is now adopted for a system of nonlinear equations. This method is compared to some classical and famous methods such as Newton’s method and Newton-Simpson’s method. The results show the effectiveness and robustness of this new method.  相似文献

Let k?2 and ai,bi(1?i?k) be integers such that ai>0 and 1?i<j?k(aibjajbi)≠0. Let Ω(m) denote the total number of prime factors of m. Suppose has no fixed prime divisors. Results of the form where rk is asymptotic to klogk have been obtained by using sieve methods, in particular weighted sieves. In this paper, we use another kind of weighted sieve due to Selberg to obtain improved admissible values for rk.  相似文献

Various different types of stability are defined, in a unified framework, for discrete Volterra equations of the type x(n)=f(n)+∑nj=0K(n,j,x(n)) (n?0). Under appropriate assumptions, stability results are obtainable from those valid in the linear case (K(n,j,x(n))=B(n,j)x(j)), and a linearized stability theory is studied here by using the fundamental and resolvent matrices. Several necessary and sufficient conditions for stability are obtained for solutions of the linear equation by considering the equations in various choices of Banach space , the elements of which are sequences of vectors (, , n,j?0, etc.). We show that the theory, including a number of new results as well as results already known, can be presented in a systematic framework, in which results parallel corresponding results for classical Volterra integral equations of the second kind.  相似文献

A bijection is presented between (1): partitions with conditions fj+fj+1k−1 and f1i−1, where fj is the frequency of the part j in the partition, and (2): sets of k−1 ordered partitions (n(1),n(2),…,n(k−1)) such that and , where mj is the number of parts in n(j). This bijection entails an elementary and constructive proof of the Andrews multiple-sum enumerating partitions with frequency conditions. A very natural relation between the k−1 ordered partitions and restricted paths is also presented, which reveals our bijection to be a modification of Bressoud’s version of the Burge correspondence.  相似文献

Let N be the set of all positive integers and D a subset of N. Let p(D,n) be the number of partitions of n with parts in D and let |D(x)| denote the number of elements of D not exceeding x. It is proved that if D is an infinite subset of N such that p(D,n) is even for all n?n0, then |D(x)|?logx/log2−logn0/log2. Moreover, if D is an infinite subset of N such that p(D,n) is odd for all n?n0 and , then |D(x)|?logx/log2−logn0/log2. These lower bounds are essentially the best possible.  相似文献

Let {Bn(x)} be the Bernoulli polynomials. In the paper we establish some congruences for , where p is an odd prime and x is a rational p-integer. Such congruences are concerned with the properties of p-regular functions, the congruences for and the sum , where h(d) is the class number of the quadratic field of discriminant d and p-regular functions are those functions f such that are rational p-integers and for n=1,2,3,… . We also establish many congruences for Euler numbers.  相似文献

In this paper, we define the generalized Bernoulli polynomial matrix B(α)(x) and the Bernoulli matrix B. Using some properties of Bernoulli polynomials and numbers, a product formula of B(α)(x) and the inverse of B were given. It is shown that not only B(x)=P[x]B, where P[x] is the generalized Pascal matrix, but also B(x)=FM(x)=N(x)F, where F is the Fibonacci matrix, M(x) and N(x) are the (n+1)×(n+1) lower triangular matrices whose (i,j)-entries are and , respectively. From these formulas, several interesting identities involving the Fibonacci numbers and the Bernoulli polynomials and numbers are obtained. The relationships are established about Bernoulli, Fibonacci and Vandermonde matrices.  相似文献

Let TRn×n be an irreducible stochastic matrix with stationary distribution vector π. Set A = I − T, and define the quantity , where Aj, j = 1, … , n, are the (n − 1) × (n − 1) principal submatrices of A obtained by deleting the jth row and column of A. Results of Cho and Meyer, and of Kirkland show that κ3 provides a sensitive measure of the conditioning of π under perturbation of T. Moreover, it is known that .In this paper, we investigate the class of irreducible stochastic matrices T of order n such that , for such matrices correspond to Markov chains with desirable conditioning properties. We identify some restrictions on the zero-nonzero patterns of such matrices, and construct several infinite classes of matrices for which κ3 is as small as possible.  相似文献

Nonsingularity of least common multiple matrices on gcd-closed sets   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
Let n be a positive integer. Let S={x1,…,xn} be a set of n distinct positive integers. The least common multiple (LCM) matrix on S, denoted by [S], is defined to be the n×n matrix whose (i,j)-entry is the least common multiple [xi,xj] of xi and xj. The set S is said to be gcd-closed if for any xi,xjS,(xi,xj)∈S. For an integer m>1, let ω(m) denote the number of distinct prime factors of m. Define ω(1)=0. In 1997, Qi Sun conjectured that if S is a gcd-closed set satisfying maxxS{ω(x)}?2, then the LCM matrix [S] is nonsingular. In this paper, we settle completely Sun's conjecture. We show the following result: (i). If S is a gcd-closed set satisfying maxxS{ω(x)}?2, then the LCM matrix [S] is nonsingular. Namely, Sun's conjecture is true; (ii). For each integer r?3, there exists a gcd-closed set S satisfying maxxS{ω(x)}=r, such that the LCM matrix [S] is singular.  相似文献

Let m be a positive integer and fm(x) be a polynomial of the form fm(x)=x2+xm. We call a polynomial fm(x) a Rabinowitsch polynomial if for and consecutive integers x=x0,x0+1,…,x0+s−1, |fm(x)| is either 1 or prime. In this paper, we show that there are exactly 14 Rabinowitsch polynomials fm(x).  相似文献
