In recent years, the skew-normal models introduced by Azzalini (1985) [1]-and their multivariate generalizations from Azzalini and Dalla Valle (1996) [4]-have enjoyed an amazing success, although an important literature has reported that they exhibit, in the vicinity of symmetry, singular Fisher information matrices and stationary points in the profile log-likelihood function for skewness, with the usual unpleasant consequences for inference. It has been shown (DiCiccio and Monti (2004) [23], DiCiccio and Monti (2009) [24] and Gómez et al. (2007) [25]) that these singularities, in some specific parametric extensions of skew-normal models (such as the classes of skew-t or skew-exponential power distributions), appear at skew-normal distributions only. Yet, an important question remains open: in broader semiparametric models of skewed distributions (such as the general skew-symmetric and skew-elliptical ones), which symmetric kernels lead to such singularities? The present paper provides an answer to this question. In very general (possibly multivariate) skew-symmetric models, we characterize, for each possible value of the rank of Fisher information matrices, the class of symmetric kernels achieving the corresponding rank. Our results show that, for strictly multivariate skew-symmetric models, not only Gaussian kernels yield singular Fisher information matrices. In contrast, we prove that systematic stationary points in the profile log-likelihood functions are obtained for (multi)normal kernels only. Finally, we also discuss the implications of such singularities on inference.  相似文献

This note is motivated from some recent papers treating the problem of the existence of a solution for abstract differential equations with fractional derivatives. We show that the existence results in [Agarwal et al. (2009) [1], Belmekki and Benchohra (2010) [2], Darwish et al. (2009) [3], Hu et al. (2009) [4], Mophou and N’Guérékata (2009) [6] and [7], Mophou (2010) [8] and [9], Muslim (2009) [10], Pandey et al. (2009) [11], Rashid and El-Qaderi (2009) [12] and Tai and Wang (2009) [13]] are incorrect since the considered variation of constant formulas is not appropriate. In this note, we also consider a different approach to treat a general class of abstract fractional differential equations.  相似文献

Criteria for extreme points and rotund points in generalized Orlicz-Lorentz function spaces, which were introduced in Foralewski (2011) [27] are given. Some examples show that in these spaces the notion of rotund point is essentially stronger than the notion of extreme point. Finally, the criteria obtained in this paper are interpreted in the case of classical Orlicz-Lorentz spaces. Results of this paper are related to the results from Carothers et al. (1992) [9], Kamińska (1990) [4], Foralewski et al. (2008) [26].  相似文献

The estimation problem of the parameters in a symmetry model for categorical data has been considered for many authors in the statistical literature (for example, Bowker (1948) [1], Ireland et al. (1969) [2], Quade and Salama (1975) [3], Cressie and Read (1988) [4], Menéndez et al. (2005) [5]) without using uncertain prior information. It is well known that many new and interesting estimators, using uncertain prior information, have been studied by a host of researchers in different statistical models, and many papers have been published on this topic (see Saleh (2006) [9] and references therein). In this paper, we consider the symmetry model of categorical data and we study, for the first time, some new estimators when non-sample information about the symmetry of the probabilities is considered. The decision to use a “restricted” estimator or an “unrestricted” estimator is based on the outcome of a preliminary test, and then a shrinkage technique is used. It is interesting to note that we present a unified study in the sense that we consider not only the maximum likelihood estimator and likelihood ratio test or chi-square test statistic but we consider minimum phi-divergence estimators and phi-divergence test statistics. Families of minimum phi-divergence estimators and phi-divergence test statistics are wide classes of estimators and test statistics that contain as a particular case the maximum likelihood estimator, likelihood ratio test and chi-square test statistic. In an asymptotic set-up, the biases and the risk under the squared loss function for the proposed estimators are derived and compared. A numerical example clarifies the content of the paper.  相似文献

In this paper skewness and kurtosis characteristics of a multivariate p-dimensional distribution are introduced. The skewness measure is defined as a p-vector while the kurtosis is characterized by a p×p-matrix. The introduced notions are extensions of the corresponding measures of Mardia [K.V. Mardia, Measures of multivariate skewness and kurtosis with applications, Biometrika 57 (1970) 519–530] and Móri, Rohatgi & Székely [T.F. Móri, V.K. Rohatgi, G.J. Székely, On multivariate skewness and kurtosis, Theory Probab. Appl. 38 (1993) 547–551]. Basic properties of the characteristics are examined and compared with both the above-mentioned results in the literature. Expressions for the measures of skewness and kurtosis are derived for the multivariate Laplace distribution. The kurtosis matrix is used in Independent Component Analysis (ICA) where the solution of an eigenvalue problem of the kurtosis matrix determines the transformation matrix of interest [A. Hyvärinen, J. Karhunen, E. Oja, Independent Component Analysis, Wiley, New York, 2001].  相似文献

In this paper, we introduce a condition on multivalued mappings which is a multivalued version of condition (Cλ) defined by Garcia-Falset et al. (2011) [3]. It is shown here that some of the classical fixed point theorems for multivalued nonexpansive mappings can be extended to mappings satisfying this condition. Our results generalize the results in Lim (1974), Lami Dozo (1973), Kirk and Massa (1990), Garcia-Falset et al. (2011), Dhompongsa et al. (2009) and Abkar and Eslamian (2010) [4], [5], [6], [3], [7] and [8] and many others.  相似文献

Three new multivariate semi-logistic distributions (denoted by MSL(1), MSL(2), and GMSL respectively) are studied in this paper. They are more general than Gumbel’s (1961) [1] and Arnold’s (1992) [2] multivariate logistic distributions. They may serve as competitors to these commonly used multivariate logistic distributions. Various characterization theorems via geometric maximization and geometric minimization procedures of the three MSL(1), MSL(2) and GMSL are proved. The particular multivariate logistic distribution used in the multiple logistic regression model is introduced. Its characterization theorem is also studied. Finally, some further research work on these MSL is also presented. Some probability density plots and contours of the bivariate MSL(1), MSL(2) as well as Gumbel’s and Arnold’s bivariate logistic distributions are presented in the Appendix.  相似文献

A new class of multivariate skew-normal distributions, fundamental skew-normal distributions and their canonical version, is developed. It contains the product of independent univariate skew-normal distributions as a special case. Stochastic representations and other main properties of the associated distribution theory of linear and quadratic forms are considered. A unified procedure for extending this class to other families of skew distributions such as the fundamental skew-symmetric, fundamental skew-elliptical, and fundamental skew-spherical class of distributions is also discussed.  相似文献

The hybrid method in mathematical programming was introduced by Haugazeau (1968) [1] and he proved a strong convergence theorem for finding a common element of finite nonempty closed convex subsets of a real Hilbert space. Later, Bauschke and Combettes (2001) [2] proposed some condition for a family of mappings (the so-called coherent condition) and established interesting results by the hybrid method. The authors (Nakajo et al., 2009) [10] extended Bauschke and Combettes’s results. In this paper, we introduce a condition weaker than the coherent condition and prove strong convergence theorems which generalize the results of Nakajo et al. (2009) [10]. And we get strong convergence theorems for a family of asymptotically κ-strict pseudo-contractions, a family of Lipschitz and pseudo-contractive mappings and a one-parameter uniformly Lipschitz semigroup of pseudo-contractive mappings.  相似文献

This paper presents a statistic for testing the hypothesis of elliptical symmetry. The statistic also provides a specialized test of multivariate normality. We obtain the asymptotic distribution of this statistic under the null hypothesis of multivariate normality, and give a bootstrapping procedure for approximating the null distribution of the statistic under an arbitrary elliptically symmetric distribution. We present simulation results to examine the accuracy of the asymptotic distribution and the performance of the bootstrapping procedure. Finally, for selected alternatives, we compare the power of our test statistic with that of recently proposed tests for elliptical symmetry given by Manzotti et al. [A statistic for testing the null hypothesis of elliptical symmetry, J. Multivariate Anal. 81 (2002) 274-285] and Schott [Testing for elliptical symmetry in covariance-matrix-based analyses, Statist. Probab. Lett. 60 (2002) 395-404], and with that of the well known tests for multivariate normality of Mardia [Measures of multivariate skewness and kurtosis with applications, Biometrika 57 (1970) 519-530] and Baringhaus and Henze [A consistent test for multivariate normality based on the empirical characteristic function, Metrika 35 (1988) 339-348].  相似文献

We obtain the characteristic function of scale mixtures of skew-normal distributions both in the univariate and multivariate cases. The derivation uses the simple stochastic relationship between skew-normal distributions and scale mixtures of skew-normal distributions. In particular, we describe the characteristic function of skew-normal, skew-t, and other related distributions.  相似文献

In this paper, we establish Ekeland’s variational principle and an equilibrium version of Ekeland’s variational principle for vectorial multivalued mappings in the setting of separated, sequentially complete uniform spaces. Our approaches and results are different from those in Chen et al. (2008), Hamel (2005), and Lin and Chuang (2010) [13], [14] and [15]. As applications of our results, we study vectorial Caristi’s fixed point theorems and Takahashi’s nonconvex minimization theorems for multivalued mappings and their equivalent forms in a separated, sequentially complete uniform space. We also apply our results to study maximal element theorems, which are unified methods of several variational inclusion problems. Our results contain many known results in the literature Fang (1996) [21], and will have many applications in nonlinear analysis.  相似文献

Newton’s method is often used for solving nonlinear equations. In this paper, we show that Newton’s method converges under weaker convergence criteria than those given in earlier studies, such as Argyros (2004) [2, p. 387], Argyros and Hilout (2010)[11, p. 12], Argyros et al. (2011) [12, p. 26], Ortega and Rheinboldt (1970) [26, p. 421], Potra and Pták (1984) [36, p. 22]. These new results are illustrated by several numerical examples, for which the older convergence criteria do not hold but for which our weaker convergence criteria are satisfied.  相似文献

Ramachandran (1969) [9, Theorem 8] has shown that for any univariate infinitely divisible distribution and any positive real number α, an absolute moment of order α relative to the distribution exists (as a finite number) if and only if this is so for a certain truncated version of the corresponding Lévy measure. A generalized version of this result in the case of multivariate infinitely divisible distributions, involving the concept of g-moments, was given by Sato (1999) [6, Theorem 25.3]. We extend Ramachandran’s theorem to the multivariate case, keeping in mind the immediate requirements under appropriate assumptions of cumulant studies of the distributions referred to; the format of Sato’s theorem just referred to obviously varies from ours and seems to have a different agenda. Also, appealing to a further criterion based on the Lévy measure, we identify in a certain class of multivariate infinitely divisible distributions the distributions that are self-decomposable; this throws new light on structural aspects of certain multivariate distributions such as the multivariate generalized hyperbolic distributions studied by Barndorff-Nielsen (1977) [12] and others. Various points relevant to the study are also addressed through specific examples.  相似文献

In this paper we study the existence of solutions for nonlinear Klein-Gordon-Maxwell equations coupled with Maxwell’s equations when the nonlinearity exhibits critical growth. We improve some previous existence results in Azzollini et al. (2009) [5], Carrião et al. (2009) [4] and Cassani (2004) [3].  相似文献

We develop a straightforward algorithm to price arithmetic average reset options with multiple reset dates in a Cox et al. (CRR) (1979) [10] framework. The use of a lattice approach is due to its adaptability and flexibility in managing arithmetic average reset options, as already evidenced by Kim et al. (2003) [9]. Their model is based on the Hull and White (1993) [5] bucketing algorithm and uses an exogenous exponential function to manage the averaging feature, but their choice of fictitious values does not guarantee the algorithm’s convergence (cfr., Forsyth et al. (2002) [11]). We propose to overcome this drawback by selecting a limited number of trajectories among the ones reaching each node of the lattice, where we compute effective averages. In this way, the computational cost of the pricing problem is reduced, and the convergence of the discrete time model to the corresponding continuous time one is guaranteed.  相似文献

We establish a regularity theorem for the Harmonic-Einstein equation. As a byproduct of the local regularity, we also have a compactness theorem on the Harmonic-Einstein equation. The method is mainly the Moser iteration technique which has been used and developed by Bando et al. (1989) [4], Tian (1990) [22], Tian and Viaclovsky (2005) [23] and others.  相似文献

A set of n-principal points of a distribution is defined as a set of n points that optimally represent the distribution in terms of mean squared distance. It provides an optimal n-point-approximation of the distribution. However, it is in general difficult to find a set of principal points of a multivariate distribution. Tarpey et al. [T. Tarpey, L. Li, B. Flury, Principal points and self-consistent points of elliptical distributions, Ann. Statist. 23 (1995) 103-112] established a theorem which states that any set of n-principal points of an elliptically symmetric distribution is in the linear subspace spanned by some principal eigenvectors of the covariance matrix. This theorem, called a “principal subspace theorem”, is a strong tool for the calculation of principal points. In practice, we often come across distributions consisting of several subgroups. Hence it is of interest to know whether the principal subspace theorem remains valid even under such complex distributions. In this paper, we define a multivariate location mixture model. A theorem is established that clarifies a linear subspace in which n-principal points exist.  相似文献

We consider the nonlinear boundary layer to the Boltzmann equation for cutoff soft potential with physical boundary condition, i.e., the Dirichlet boundary condition with weak diffuse effect. Under the assumption that the distribution function of gas particles tends to a global Maxwellian in the far field, we will show the boundary layer exist if the boundary data satisfy the solvability condition. Moreover, the codimensions of the boundary data which satisfies the solvability condition change with the Mach number of the far field Maxwellian like Chen et al. (2004) [5], Ukai et al. (2003) [6] and Wang et al. (2007) [7].  相似文献

The aim of this paper is to investigate the asymptotic behavior of an inertial alternating algorithm based on the composition of resolvents of monotone operators. The proposed algorithm is a generalization of those proposed in Attouch et al. (2007) [3] and Bauschke et al. (2005) [1]. As a special case, we also recover the classical alternating minimization algorithm (Acker, 1980) [2], which itself is a natural extension of the alternating projection algorithm of von Neumann (1950) [4]. An application to equilibrium problems is also proposed.  相似文献
