We study the worst case setting for approximation of d variate functions from a general reproducing kernel Hilbert space with the error measured in the L norm. We mainly consider algorithms that use n arbitrary continuous linear functionals. We look for algorithms with the minimal worst case errors and for their rates of convergence as n goes to infinity. Algorithms using n function values will be analyzed in a forthcoming paper. We show that the L approximation problem in the worst case setting is related to the weighted L2 approximation problem in the average case setting with respect to a zero-mean Gaussian stochastic process whose covariance function is the same as the reproducing kernel of the Hilbert space. This relation enables us to find optimal algorithms and their rates of convergence for the weighted Korobov space with an arbitrary smoothness parameter α>1, and for the weighted Sobolev space whose reproducing kernel corresponds to the Wiener sheet measure. The optimal convergence rates are n-(α-1)/2 and n-1/2, respectively. We also study tractability of L approximation for the absolute and normalized error criteria, i.e., how the minimal worst case errors depend on the number of variables, d, especially when d is arbitrarily large. We provide necessary and sufficient conditions on tractability of L approximation in terms of tractability conditions of the weighted L2 approximation in the average case setting. In particular, tractability holds in weighted Korobov and Sobolev spaces only for weights tending sufficiently fast to zero and does not hold for the classical unweighted spaces.  相似文献

This is the third part of a series of four articles on weighted norm inequalities, off-diagonal estimates and elliptic operators. For L in some class of elliptic operators, we study weighted norm Lp inequalities for singular “non-integral” operators arising from L; those are the operators φ(L) for bounded holomorphic functions φ, the Riesz transforms ∇L−1/2 (or (−Δ)1/2L−1/2) and its inverse L1/2(−Δ)−1/2, some quadratic functionals gL and GL of Littlewood-Paley-Stein type and also some vector-valued inequalities such as the ones involved for maximal Lp-regularity. For each, we obtain sharp or nearly sharp ranges of p using the general theory for boundedness of Part I and the off-diagonal estimates of Part II. We also obtain commutator results with BMO functions.  相似文献

The conditional supremum of a random variable X on a probability space given a sub--algebra is defined and proved to exist as an application of the Radon–Nikodym theorem in L \infty. After developing some of its properties we use it to prove a new ergodic theorem showing that a time maximum is a space maximum. The concept of a maxingale is introduced and used to develop the new theory of optimal stopping in L \infty and the concept of an absolutely optimal stopping time. Finally, the conditional max is used to reformulate the optimal control of the worst-case value function.  相似文献

We consider a finite element method (FEM) with arbitrary polynomial degree for nonlinear monotone elliptic problems. Using a linear elliptic projection, we first give a new short proof of the optimal convergence rate of the FEM in the L2 norm. We then derive optimal a priori error estimates in the H1 and L2 norm for a FEM with variational crimes due to numerical integration. As an application, we derive a priori error estimates for a numerical homogenization method applied to nonlinear monotone elliptic problems. © 2016 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. We study time-periodic Oseen flows past a rotating body in ℝ3 proving weighted a priori estimates in Lq-spaces using Muckenhoupt weights. After a time-dependent change of coordinates the problem is reduced to a stationary Oseen equation with the additional terms (ω ∧ x) ⋅ ∇ u and −ω ∧ u in the equation of momentum where ω denotes the angular velocity. Due to the asymmetry of Oseen flow and to describe its wake we use anisotropic Muckenhoupt weights, a weighted theory of Littlewood–Paley decomposition and of maximal operators as well as one-sided univariate weights, one-sided maximal operators and a new version of Jones' factorization theorem. In this paper we derive a relationship between the Legendre-Fenchel transform of the spectral exponent of weighted composition operators acting in Lp-spaces and the Legendre-Fenchel transform obtained for their polynomials. We establish the variational principle for the spectral exponent of polynomials of weighted composition operators.  相似文献

This paper derives sharp L 2-coercivity inequalities for the divergence operator on bounded Lipschitz regions in ? n . They hold for fields in H(div,Ω) that are orthogonal to N(div). The optimal constants in the inequality are defined by a variational principle and are identified as the least eigenvalue of a nonstandard boundary value problem for a linear biharmonic type operator. The dependence of the optimal constant under dilations of the region is described and a generalization that involves weighted surface integrals is also proved. When n = 2, this also yields a similar coercivity result for the curl operator.  相似文献

In this paper we present some results on the global existence of weak solutions to a nonlinear variational wave equation and some related problems. We first introduce the main tools, the L p Young measure theory and related compactness results, in the first section. Then we use the L p Young measure theory to prove the global existence of dissipative weak solutions to the asymptotic equation of the nonlinear wave equation, and comment on its relation to Camassa-Holm equations in the second section. In the third section, we prove the global existence of weak solutions to the original nonlinear wave equation under some restrictions on the wave speed. In the last section, we present global existence of renormalized solutions to two-dimensional model equations of the asymptotic equation, which is also the so-called vortex density equation arising from sup-conductivity.  相似文献

We give a new variational approach toL p -potential theory for sub-Markovian semigroups. It is based on the observation that the Gâteaux-derivative of the corresponding L p-energy functional is a monotone operator. This allows to apply the well established theory of Browder and Minty on monotone operators to the nonlinear problems in L p-potential theory. In particular, using this approach it is possible to avoid any symmetry assumptions of the underlying semigroup. We prove existence of corresponding (r, p)-equilibrium potentials and obtain a complete characterization in terms of a variational inequality. Moreover we investigate associated potentials and encounter a natural interpretation of the so-called nonlinear potential operator in the context of monotone operators.  相似文献

In this work, we present a monotone first‐order weighted (FORWE) method for scalar conservation laws using a variational formulation. We prove theoretical properties as consistency, monotonicity, and convergence of the proposed scheme for the one‐dimensional (1D) Cauchy problem. These convergence results are extended to multidimensional scalar conservation laws by a dimensional splitting technique. For the validation of the FORWE method, we consider some standard bench‐mark tests of bidimensional and 1D conservation law equations. Finally, we analyze the accuracy of the method with L1 and L error estimates. © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Numer Methods Partial Differential Eq, 2013  相似文献

We present a global variational approach to the L 2-gradient flow of the area functional of cartesian surfaces through the study of the so-called weighted energy-dissipation (WED) functional. In particular, we prove a relaxation result which allows us to show that minimizers of the WED converge in a quantitatively prescribed way to gradient-flow trajectories of the relaxed area functional. The result is then extended to general parabolic quasilinear equations arising as gradient flows of convex functionals with linear growth.  相似文献

In this paper we study the behavior of general integral operators on weighted Lp spaces. Particular cases include the main index transforms and the operators with complex Gaussian kernels. We also extend some previous results established in [E.R. Negrin, Proc. Amer. Math. Soc. 123 (1995) 1185-1190].  相似文献

We consider the Cauchy problem in R n for strongly damped Klein‐Gordon equations. We derive asymptotic profiles of solutions with weighted L1,1( R n) initial data by a simple method introduced by the second author. Furthermore, from the obtained asymptotic profile, we get the optimal decay order of the L2‐norm of solutions. The obtained results show that the wave effect will be relatively weak because of the mass term, especially in the low‐dimensional case (n = 1,2) as compared with the strongly damped wave equations without mass term (m = 0), so the most interesting topic in this paper is the n = 1,2 cases to compare the difference.  相似文献

In this paper we develop elements of the global calculus of Fourier integral operators in ${{\mathbb R}^n}$ under minimal decay assumptions on phases and amplitudes. We also establish global weighted Sobolev L2 estimates for a class of Fourier integral operators that appears in the analysis of global smoothing problems for dispersive partial differential equations. As an application, we exhibit a new type of weighted estimates for hyperbolic equations, where the decay of data in space is quantitatively translated into the time decay of solutions.  相似文献

In this article, we introduce a new method to analyze the convergence of the standard finite element method for variational inequalities with noncoercive operators. We derive an optimal L error estimate by combining the Bensoussan-Lions algorithm with the concept of subsolutions.  相似文献

We introduce a notion of mild solution for a class of non-autonomous parabolic stochastic partial differential equations defined on a bounded open subset ${D\subset\mathbb{R}^{d}}We introduce a notion of mild solution for a class of non-autonomous parabolic stochastic partial differential equations defined on a bounded open subset and driven by an infinite-dimensional fractional noise. We prove the existence of such a solution, establish its relation with the variational solution introduced by Nualart and Vuillermot (J Funct Anal 232:390–454, 2006) and the H?lder continuity of its sample paths when we consider it as an L 2(D)-valued stochastic process. When h is an affine function, we also prove uniqueness. An immediate consequence of our results is the indistinguishability of mild and variational solutions in the case of uniqueness. M. In this paper, we study blow-up solutions of the Cauchy problem to the L2 critical nonlinear Schrdinger equation with a Stark potential. Using the variational characterization of the ground state for nonlinear Schrdinger equation without any potential, we obtain some concentration properties of blow-up solutions, including that the origin is the blow-up point of the radial blow-up solutions, the phenomenon of L2-concentration and rate of L2-concentration of blow-up solutions.  相似文献

Given a fixed probability space (Ω,ℱ,ℙ) and m≥1, let X(t) be an L2(Ω) process satisfying necessary regularity conditions for existence of the mth iterated stochastic integral. For real-valued processes, these existence conditions are known from the work of D. Engel. Engel’s work is extended here to L2(Ω) processes defined on Clifford algebras of arbitrary signature (p,q), which reduce to the real case when p=q=0. These include as special cases processes on the complex numbers, quaternion algebra, finite fermion algebras, fermion Fock spaces, space-time algebra, the algebra of physical space, and the hypercube. Next, a graph-theoretic approach to stochastic integrals is developed in which the mth iterated stochastic integral corresponds to the limit in mean of a collection of weighted closed m-step walks on a growing sequence of graphs. Combinatorial properties of the Clifford geometric product are then used to create adjacency matrices for these graphs in which the appropriate weighted walks are recovered naturally from traces of matrix powers. Given real-valued L2(Ω) processes, Hermite and Poisson-Charlier polynomials are recovered in this manner.  相似文献

Let T be a bounded operator on Lp‐space, with 1 ≤ p < ∞. A theorem of W. B. Johnson and L. Jones asserts that after an appropriate change of density, T actually extends to a bounded operator on L2. We show that if 𝒯 ⊂ B (Lp) is an R‐bounded set of operators, then the latter result holds for any T ∈ 𝒯 with a common change of density. Then we give applications including results on R‐sectorial operators.  相似文献
