Extended Linear-Quadratic Programming (ELQP) problems were introduced by Rockafellar and Wets for various models in stochastic programming and multistage optimization. Several numerical methods with linear convergence rates have been developed for solving fully quadratic ELQP problems, where the primal and dual coefficient matrices are positive definite. We present a two-stage sequential quadratic programming (SQP) method for solving ELQP problems arising in stochastic programming. The first stage algorithm realizes global convergence and the second stage algorithm realizes superlinear local convergence under a condition calledB-regularity.B-regularity is milder than the fully quadratic condition; the primal coefficient matrix need not be positive definite. Numerical tests are given to demonstrate the efficiency of the algorithm. Solution properties of the ELQP problem underB-regularity are also discussed.Supported by the Australian Research Council.  相似文献

In this paper, a new variable reduction technique is presented for general integer quadratic programming problem (GP), under which some variables of (GP) can be fixed at zero without sacrificing optimality. A sufficient condition and a necessary condition for the identification of dominated terms are provided. By comparing the given data of the problem and the upper bound of the variables, if they meet certain conditions, some variables can be fixed at zero. We report a computational study to demonstrate the efficacy of the proposed technique in solving general integer quadratic programming problems. Furthermore, we discuss separable integer quadratic programming problems in a simpler and clearer form.  相似文献

In this paper, we present an extension to the NE/SQP method; the latter is a robust algorithm that we proposed for solving the nonlinear complementarity problem in an earlier article. In this extended version of NE/SQP, instead of exactly solving the quadratic program subproblems, approximate solutions are generated via an inexact rule.Under a proper choice for this rule, this inexact method is shown to inherit the same convergence properties of the original NE/SQP method. In addition to developing the convergence theory for the inexact method, we also present numerical results of the algorithm tested on two problems of varying size.  相似文献

In this paper, we present an interior point algorithm for solving both convex and nonconvex quadratic programs. The method, which is an extension of our interior point work on linear programming problems efficiently solves a wide class of largescale problems and forms the basis for a sequential quadratic programming (SQP) solver for general large scale nonlinear programs. The key to the algorithm is a three-dimensional cost improvement subproblem, which is solved at every interation. We have developed an approximate recentering procedure and a novel, adaptive big-M Phase I procedure that are essential to the sucess of the algorithm. We describe the basic method along with the recentering and big-M Phase I procedures. Details of the implementation and computational results are also presented.Contribution of the National Institute of Standards and Tedchnology and not subject to copyright in the United States. For current sequential quadratic programming (SQP) type algorithms, there exist two problems: (i) in order to obtain a search direction, one must solve one or more quadratic programming subproblems per iteration, and the computation amount of this algorithm is very large. So they are not suitable for the large-scale problems; (ii) the SQP algorithms require that the related quadratic programming subproblems be solvable per iteration, but it is difficult to be satisfied. By using ε-active set procedure with a special penalty function as the merit function, a new algorithm of sequential systems of linear equations for general nonlinear optimization problems with arbitrary initial point is presented. This new algorithm only needs to solve three systems of linear equations having the same coefficient matrix per iteration, and has global convergence and local superlinear convergence. To some extent, the new algorithm can overcome the shortcomings of the SQP algorithms mentioned above. In this paper, a class of general nonlinear programming problems with inequality and equality constraints is discussed. Firstly, the original problem is transformed into an associated simpler equivalent problem with only inequality constraints. Then, inspired by the ideals of the sequential quadratic programming (SQP) method and the method of system of linear equations (SLE), a new type of SQP algorithm for solving the original problem is proposed. At each iteration, the search direction is generated by the combination of two directions, which are obtained by solving an always feasible quadratic programming (QP) subproblem and a SLE, respectively. Moreover, in order to overcome the Maratos effect, the higher-order correction direction is obtained by solving another SLE. The two SLEs have the same coefficient matrices, and we only need to solve the one of them after a finite number of iterations. By a new line search technique, the proposed algorithm possesses global and superlinear convergence under some suitable assumptions without the strict complementarity. Finally, some comparative numerical results are reported to show that the proposed algorithm is effective and promising.  相似文献

In this paper we consider different classes of noneonvex quadratic problems that can be solved in polynomial time. We present an algorithm for the problem of minimizing the product of two linear functions over a polyhedron P in R n The complexity of the algorithm depends on the number of vertices of the projection of P onto the R 2 space. In the worst-case this algorithm requires an exponential number of steps but its expected computational time complexity is polynomial. In addition, we give a characterization for the number of isolated local minimum areas for problems on this form.

Furthermore, we consider indefinite quadratic problems with variables restricted to be nonnegative. These problems can be solved in polynomial time if the number of negative eigenvalues of the associated symmetric matrix is fixed.  相似文献

In Floudas and Visweswaran (1990, 1993), a deterministic global optimization approach was proposed for solving certain classes of nonconvex optimization problems. An algorithm, GOP, was presented for the solution of the problem through a series ofprimal andrelaxed dual problems that provide valid upper and lower bounds respectively on the global solution. The algorithm was proved to have finite convergence to an -global optimum. In this paper, new theoretical properties are presented that help to enhance the computational performance of the GOP algorithm applied to problems of special structure. The effect of the new properties is illustrated through application of the GOP algorithm to a difficult indefinite quadratic problem, a multiperiod tankage quality problem that occurs frequently in the modeling of refinery processes, and a set of pooling/blending problems from the literature. In addition, extensive computational experience is reported for randomly generated concave and indefinite quadratic programming problems of different sizes. The results show that the properties help to make the algorithm computationally efficient for fairly large problems.  相似文献

We propose a modified sequential quadratic programming method for solving mixed-integer nonlinear programming problems. Under the assumption that integer variables have a smooth influence on the model functions, i.e., that function values do not change drastically when in- or decrementing an integer value, successive quadratic approximations are applied. The algorithm is stabilized by a trust region method with Yuan’s second order corrections. It is not assumed that the mixed-integer program is relaxable or, in other words, function values are evaluated only at integer points. The Hessian of the Lagrangian function is approximated by a quasi-Newton update formula subject to the continuous and integer variables. Numerical results are presented for a set of 80 mixed-integer test problems taken from the literature. The surprising result is that the number of function evaluations, the most important performance criterion in practice, is less than the number of function calls needed for solving the corresponding relaxed problem without integer variables.  相似文献

We present new strongly polynomial algorithms for special cases of convex separable quadratic minimization over submodular constraints. The main results are: an O(NM log(N 2/M)) algorithm for the problemNetwork defined on a network onM arcs andN nodes; an O(n logn) algorithm for thetree problem onn variables; an O(n logn) algorithm for theNested problem, and a linear time algorithm for theGeneralized Upper Bound problem. These algorithms are the best known so far for these problems. The status of the general problem and open questions are presented as well. This research has been supported in part by ONR grant N00014-91-J-1241.Corresponding author.  相似文献

Combining the ideas of generalized projection and the strongly subfeasible sequential quadratic programming (SQP) method, we present a new strongly subfeasible SQP algorithm for nonlinearly inequality-constrained optimization problems. The algorithm, in which a new unified step-length search of Armijo type is introduced, starting from an arbitrary initial point, produces a feasible point after a finite number of iterations and from then on becomes a feasible descent SQP algorithm. At each iteration, only one quadratic program needs to be solved, and two correctional directions are obtained simply by explicit formulas that contain the same inverse matrix. Furthermore, the global and superlinear convergence results are proved under mild assumptions without strict complementarity conditions. Finally, some preliminary numerical results show that the proposed algorithm is stable and promising.  相似文献

A key algorithmic element of a real-time trajectory optimization hardware/software implementation is presented, the search step solver. This is one piece of an algorithm whose overall goal is to make nonlinear trajectory optimization fast enough to provide real-time commands during guidance of a vehicle such as an aeromaneuvering orbiter or the National Aerospace Plane. Many methods of nonlinear programming require the solution of a quadratic program (QP) at each iteration to determine the search step. In the trajectory optimization case, the QP has a special dynamic programming structure, an LQR-like structure. The algorithm exploits this special structure with a divide-and-conquer type of parallel implementation. A hypercube message-passing parallel machine, the INTEL iPSC/2, has been used. The algorithm solves a (p·N)-stage problem onN processors inO(p + log2 N) operations. The algorithm yields a factor of 8 speed-up over the fastest known serial algorithm when solving a 1024-stage test problem on 32 processors. This research was supported in part by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration under Grant No. NAG-1-1009.  相似文献

This paper addresses the development of a new algorithm forparameter estimation of ordinary differential equations. Here,we show that (1) the simultaneous approach combined with orthogonalcyclic reduction can be used to reduce the estimation problemto an optimization problem subject to a fixed number of equalityconstraints without the need for structural information to devisea stable embedding in the case of non-trivial dichotomy and(2) the Newton approximation of the Hessian information of theLagrangian function of the estimation problem should be usedin cases where hypothesized models are incorrect or only a limitedamount of sample data is available. A new algorithm is proposedwhich includes the use of the sequential quadratic programming(SQP) Gauss–Newton approximation but also encompassesthe SQP Newton approximation along with tests of when to usethis approximation. This composite approach relaxes the restrictionson the SQP Gauss–Newton approximation that the hypothesizedmodel should be correct and the sample data set large enough. This new algorithm has been tested on two standard problems.  相似文献

A dynamic programming method is presented for solving constrained, discrete-time, optimal control problems. The method is based on an efficient algorithm for solving the subproblems of sequential quadratic programming. By using an interior-point method to accommodate inequality constraints, a modification of an existing algorithm for equality constrained problems can be used iteratively to solve the subproblems. Two test problems and two application problems are presented. The application examples include a rest-to-rest maneuver of a flexible structure and a constrained brachistochrone problem.  相似文献

The nonlinear complementarity problem can be reformulated as a nonlinear programming. For solving nonlinear programming, sequential quadratic programming (SQP) type method is very effective. Moreover, filter method, for its good numerical results, are extensively studied to handle nonlinear programming problems recently. In this paper, a modified quadratic subproblem is proposed. Based on it, we employ filter technique to tackle nonlinear complementarity problem. This method has no demand on initial point. The restoration phase, which is always used in traditional filter method, is not needed. Global convergence results of the proposed algorithm are established under suitable conditions. Some numerical results are reported in this paper.  相似文献

For solving the smooth constrained nonlinear programming problem, sequential quadratic programming (SQP) methods are considered to be the standard tool, as long as they are applicable. However one possible situation preventing the successful solution by a standard SQP-technique, arises if problems with a very large number of constraints are to be solved. Typical applications are semi-infinite or min-max optimization, optimal control or mechanical structural optimization. The proposed technique proceeds from a user defined number of linearized constraints, that is to be used internally to determine the size of the quadratic programming subproblem. Significant constraints are then selected automatically by the algorithm. Details of the numerical implementation and some experimental results are presented  相似文献

We show that a particular pivoting algorithm, which we call the lexicographic Lemke algorithm, takes an expected number of steps that is bounded by a quadratic inn, when applied to a random linear complementarity problem of dimensionn. We present two probabilistic models, both requiring some nondegeneracy and sign-invariance properties. The second distribution is concerned with linear complementarity problems that arise from linear programming. In this case we give bounds that are quadratic in the smaller of the two dimensions of the linear programming problem, and independent of the larger. One of the most interesting topics related to sequential quadratic programming algorithms is how to guarantee the consistence of all quadratic programming subproblems. In this decade, much work trying to change the form of constraints to obtain the consistence of the subproblems has been done. The method proposed by De O. Pantoja J.F. A. and coworkers solves the consistent problem of SQP method, and is the best to the authors’ knowledge. However, the scale and complexity of the subproblems in De O. Pantoja’s work will be increased greatly since all equality constraints have to be changed into absolute form. A new sequential quadratic programming type algorithm is presented by means of a special ε-active set scheme and a special penalty function. Subproblems of the new algorithm are all consistent, and the form of constraints of the subproblems is as simple as one of the general SQP type algorithms. It can be proved that the new method keeps global convergence and Local superlinear convergence. Project partly supported by the National Natural Science Foundation of China.  相似文献
