Perturbation analysis of singular subspaces and deflating subspaces   总被引:5,自引:0,他引:5  
Summary. Perturbation expansions for singular subspaces of a matrix and for deflating subspaces of a regular matrix pair are derived by using a technique previously described by the author. The perturbation expansions are then used to derive Fr\'echet derivatives, condition numbers, and th-order perturbation bounds for the subspaces. Vaccaro's result on second-order perturbation expansions for a special class of singular subspaces can be obtained from a general result of this paper. Besides, new perturbation bounds for singular subspaces and deflating subspaces are derived by applying a general theorem on solution of a system of nonlinear equations. The results of this paper reveal an important fact: Each singular subspace and each deflating subspace have individual perturbation bounds and individual condition numbers. We study the existence of frequently hypercyclic subspaces for a given operator, that is, the existence of closed infinite-dimensional subspaces in which every non-zero vector is frequently hypercyclic. We attack the problem with any of the three methods that have been used for hypercyclic subspaces: a constructive approach, an approach via left-multiplication operators, and an approach via tensor products.  相似文献

A spectral space is localic if it corresponds to a frame under Stone Duality. This class of spaces was introduced by the author (under the name ’locales’) as the topological version of the classical frame theoretic notion of locales, see Johnstone and also Picado and Pultr). The appropriate class of subspaces of a localic space are the localic subspaces. These are, in particular, spectral subspaces. The following main questions are studied (and answered): Given a spectral subspace of a localic space, how can one recognize whether the subspace is even localic? How can one construct all localic subspaces from particularly simple ones? The set of localic subspaces and the set of spectral subspaces are both inverse frames. The set of localic subspaces is known to be the image of an inverse nucleus on the inverse frame of spectral subspaces. How can the inverse nucleus be described explicitly? Are there any special properties distinguishing this particular inverse nucleus from all others? Colimits of spectral spaces and localic spaces are needed as a tool for the comparison of spectral subspaces and localic subspaces.  相似文献

We prove three new dichotomies for Banach spaces à la W.T. Gowers' dichotomies. The three dichotomies characterise respectively the spaces having no minimal subspaces, having no subsequentially minimal basic sequences, and having no subspaces crudely finitely representable in all of their subspaces. We subsequently use these results to make progress on Gowers' program of classifying Banach spaces by finding characteristic spaces present in every space. Also, the results are used to embed any partial order of size 1 into the subspaces of any space without a minimal subspace ordered by isomorphic embeddability.  相似文献

Perturbation bounds of subspaces, such as eigen-spaces, singular subspaces, and canonical subspaces, have been extensively studied in the literature. In this paper, we study perturbations of some constrained subspaces of 1×2, 2×1, and 2×2 block matrices, in which only one of the sub-matrices can be changed. Such problems rise from the least squares–total least squares problem, the constrained least squares problem, and the constrained total least squares problem.  相似文献

Nonsingular matrix subspaces can be separated into two categories: by being either invertible, or merely possessing invertible elements. The former class was introduced for factoring matrices into the product of two matrices. With the latter, the problem of characterizing the inverses and related nonlinear matrix geometries arises. For the singular elements there is a natural concept of spectrum defined in terms of determinantal hypersurfaces, linking matrix analysis with algebraic geometry. With this, matrix subspaces and the respective Grassmannians are split into equivalence classes. Conditioning of matrix subspaces is addressed.  相似文献

The wavelet subspaces of the space of square integrable functions on the affine group with respect to the left invariant Haar measure are studied using the techniques from Vasilevski (Integral Equ. Operator Theory 33:471–488, 1999) with respect to wavelets whose Fourier transforms are related to Laguerre polynomials. The orthogonal projections onto each of these wavelet subspaces are described and explicit forms of reproducing kernels are established. Isomorphisms between wavelet subspaces are given.  相似文献

Several rules known to be valid within the set theory are revisited and considered from the point of view of the question whether they remain satisfied when sets are replaced with subspaces from Cn,1. It is shown that some of the set relationships hold true upon such a replacement, however, there is also an extensive class of relationships whose validity is no longer guaranteed; in this class the commutativity of the orthogonal projectors onto the involved subspaces proves to play an important role. It has recently been shown that the symmetric gauge functions on the canonical (principal) angles give a family of unitarily invariant metrics between linear subspaces of the same dimension. In this short paper, we extend such metrics to subspaces of possibly different dimensions. This extension is necessary in addressing some perturbation analysis problems involving subspaces with different dimensions. Examples of such perturbation analysis problems are also studied in this paper using the extended metrics.  相似文献

A theorem of D.E. Sarason is used to show that all subnormal operators have nontrivial invariant subspaces if some very special subnormal operators have them. This paper studies resolvent convergence and spectral approximations of sequences of self-adjoint subspaces (relations) in complex Hilbert spaces. Concepts of strong resolvent convergence, norm resolvent convergence, spectral inclusion, and spectral exactness are introduced. Fundamental properties of resolvents of subspaces are studied. By applying these properties, several equivalent and sufficient conditions for convergence of sequences of self-adjoint subspaces in the strong and norm resolvent senses are given. It is shown that a sequence of self-adjoint subspaces is spectrally inclusive under the strong resolvent convergence and spectrally exact under the norm resolvent convergence. A sufficient condition is given for spectral exactness of a sequence of self-adjoint subspaces in an open interval lacking essential spectral points. In addition, criteria are established for spectral inclusion and spectral exactness of a sequence of self-adjoint subspaces that are defined on proper closed subspaces.  相似文献

Given an abelian category with arbitrary products, arbitrary coproducts, and a generator, we show that the closed subspaces (in the sense of A. L. Rosenberg) are parameterized by a suitably defined poset of ideals in the generator. In particular, the collection of closed subspaces is itself a small poset.

We show that the structural properties of von Neumann algebra s are connected with the metric and order theoretic properties of various classes of affiliated subspaces. Among others we show that properly infinite von Neumann algebra s always admit an affiliated subspace for which (1) closed and orthogonally closed affiliated subspaces are different; (2) splitting and quasi‐splitting affiliated subspaces do not coincide. We provide an involved construction showing that concepts of splitting and quasi‐splitting subspaces are non‐equivalent in any GNS representation space arising from a faithful normal state on a Type I factor. We are putting together the theory of quasi‐splitting subspaces developed for inner product spaces on one side and the modular theory of von Neumann algebra s on the other side.  相似文献
