In this paper, we study the extension of isometries between the unit spheres of normed space E and C(Ω). We obtain that any surjective isometry between the unit spheres of normed space E and C(Ω) can be extended to be a linear isometry on the whole space E and give an affirmative answer to the corresponding Tingley's problem (where Ω be a compact metric space).  相似文献

A pair of operators on a Banach space X are isometrically equivalent if they are intertwined by a surjective isometry of X. We investigate the isometric equivalence problem for pairs of operators on specific types of Banach spaces. We study weighted shifts on symmetric sequence spaces, elementary operators acting on an ideal I of Hilbert space operators, and composition operators on the Bloch space. This last case requires an extension of known results about surjective isometries of the Bloch space.  相似文献

We give examples of results on composition operators connected with lens maps. The first two concern the approximation numbers of those operators acting on the usual Hardy space H 2. The last ones are connected with Hardy-Orlicz and Bergman-Orlicz spaces ${H^\psi }$ and ${B^\psi }$ , and provide a negative answer to the question of knowing if all composition operators which are weakly compact on a non-reflexive space are norm-compact.  相似文献

We show that a Banach space E has the weakly compact approximation property if and only if each continuous Banach-valued polynomial on E can be uniformly approximated on compact sets by homogeneous polynomials which are members of the ideal of homogeneous polynomials generated by weakly compact linear operators. This paper considers weak supercyclicity for bounded linear operators on a normed space. On the one hand, weak supercyclicity is investigated for classes of Hilbertspace operators: (i) self-adjoint operators are not weakly supercyclic, (ii) diagonalizable operators are not weakly l-sequentially supercyclic, and (iii) weak l-sequential supercyclicity is preserved between a unitary operator and its adjoint. On the other hand, weak supercyclicity is investigated for classes of normed-space operators: (iv) the point spectrum of the normed-space adjoint of a power bounded supercyclic operator is either empty or is a singleton in the open unit disk, (v) weak l-sequential supercyclicity coincides with supercyclicity for compact operators, and (vi) every compact weakly l-sequentially supercyclic operator is quasinilpotent.  相似文献

A result of Aliprantis and Burkinshaw shows that weakly compact operators from an AL-space into a KB-space have a weakly compact modulus. Groenewegen characterised the largest class of range spaces for which this remains true whenever the domain is an AL-space and Schmidt proved a dual result. Both of these authors used vector-valued integration in their proofs. We give elementary proofs of both results and also characterise the largest class of domains for which the conclusion remains true whenever the range space is a KB-space. We conclude by studying the order structure of spaces of weakly compact operators between Banach lattices to prove results analogous to earlier results of one of the authors for spaces of compact operators.

We introduce the notion of Lipschitz compact (weakly compact, finite-rank, approximable) operators from a pointed metric space X into a Banach space E. We prove that every strongly Lipschitz p-nuclear operator is Lipschitz compact and every strongly Lipschitz p-integral operator is Lipschitz weakly compact. A theory of Lipschitz compact (weakly compact, finite-rank) operators which closely parallels the theory for linear operators is developed. In terms of the Lipschitz transpose map of a Lipschitz operator, we state Lipschitz versions of Schauder type theorems on the (weak) compactness of the adjoint of a (weakly) compact linear operator.  相似文献

A normed space is paracomplete if it admits a new norm, stronger than the initial one, that makes it complete. Here we give a characterization of paracomplete normed spaces. As a consequence, we show that operators on paracomplete spaces have compact spectrum in the algebra of all operators, and that the class of paracomplete spaces is not stable under ℓ2-sums. Moreover, we give characterizations for the closed Fredholm operators on paracomplete spaces and for the almost semi-Fredholm operators of Harte on normed spaces.  相似文献

We consider parametric optimization problems of the following type; Minimize p(x,t) subject to x?C, for all t?T, where C is a weakly locally compact, closed, and convex subset of a Hilbert space H, T is a topological space, and p is a real-valued function on H×T lower semicontinuous if H is provided with the weak topology, and continuous in the second variable for all x?H. We investigate how the optimal value, and the set of optimal solutions depend on tET, We apply our results to show that the discrete eigenvalues, and the corresponding normed eigenelements of certain self-adjoint operators in Hilbert spaces depend (the latter strongly) continuous on parameters under reasonable conditions.  相似文献

We study the joint spectral radius given by a finite set of compact operators on a Hilbert space. It is shown that the normed finiteness property holds in this case, that is, if all the compact operators are contractions and the joint spectral radius is equal to 1 then there exists a finite product that has a spectral radius equal to 1. We prove an additional statement in that the requirement that the joint spectral radius be equal to 1 can be relaxed to the asking that the maximum norm of finite products of a length norm is equal to 1. The length of this product is related to the dimension of the subspace on which the set of operators is norm preserving.  相似文献

We show examples of compact linear operators between Banach spaces which cannot be approximated by norm attaining operators. This is the negative answer to an open question posed in the 1970s. Actually, any strictly convex Banach space failing the approximation property serves as the range space. On the other hand, there are examples in which the domain space has a Schauder basis.  相似文献
