This paper provides a pair of summation formulas for a kind of combinatorial series involvingak+b m as a factor of the summand. The construction of formulas is based on a certain series transformation formula [2, 7, 9] and by making use of the C-numbers [3]. Various consequences and examples including several remarkable classic identities are presented to illustrate some applications of the formulas obtained.  相似文献

With the aid of Mullin-Rota's substitution rule, we show that the Sheffertype differential operators together with the delta operators ? and D could be used to construct a pair of expansion formulas that imply a wide variety of summation formulas in the discrete analysis and combinatorics. A convergence theorem is established for a fruitful source formula that implies more than 20 noted classical fomulas and identities as consequences. Numerous new formulas are also presented as illustrative examples. Finally, it is shown that a kind of lifting process can be used to produce certain chains of(∞~m) degree formulas for m ≥ 3 with m ≡ 1(mod 2) and m ≡ 1(mod3), respectively.  相似文献

During the last decade, a great deal of activity has been devoted to the calculation of the HilbertPoincar′e series of unitary highest weight representations and related modules in algebraic geometry. However,uniform formulas remain elusive—even for more basic invariants such as the Gelfand-Kirillov dimension or the Bernstein degree, and are usually limited to families of representations in a dual pair setting. We use earlier work by Joseph to provide an elementary and intrinsic proof of a uniform formula for the Gelfand-Kirillov dimension of an arbitrary unitary highest weight module in terms of its highest weight. The formula generalizes a result of Enright and Willenbring(in the dual pair setting) and is inspired by Wang's formula for the dimension of a minimal nilpotent orbit.  相似文献

It is found that generalized geometric programming (GGP) is in fact a special case of generalized convex programming. By selecting a suitable bifunetion and calculating its adjoint function, the dual form of the standard GGP problem is derived. Some duality theorems are also obtained with this point of view. The method used is simpler and more general than what appeared in the literature.  相似文献

It is shown that Howard's degenerate weighted Stirling numbers can be used to construct a fruitful summation formula for a class of formal power series involving generalized factorials.This is achieved with the aid of a series-transformation formula due to He,Hsu and Shiue,and several identities involving generalized Stirling numbers and Bell numbers are given to illustrate the application of the formula obtained.  相似文献

In this paper, it is shown that there is a gap in the paper [Chidume, C. E., Shahzad, N.: Weak convergence theorems for a finite family of strict pseudo-contractions. Nonlinear Anal., 72, 1257–1265(2010)], consequently, the main results of the paper do not hold in uniformly smooth Banach spaces. Meanwhile, it is also shown that the main results(Lemma 3.4, Theorems 3.5–3.6, 3.8–3.9) in the paper [Cholamjiak, P., Suantai, S.: Weak convergence theorems for a countable family of strict pseudo-contractions in Banach spaces. Fixed Point Theory Appl., 2010, Article ID 632137, 16 pages(2010)] do not hold in Lpfor p 3. Finally, some modified results are presented in the setting of uniformly smooth and uniformly convex Banach spaces which include Lpfor p ≥ 2 as special cases. Furthermore, our arguments are also different from the ones given by the authors above.  相似文献

Given a connected CW-space X, SN T(X) denotes the set of all homotopy types[X′] such that the Postnikov approximations X~((n)) and X′~((n)) are homotopy equivalent for all n. The main purpose of this paper is to show that the set of all the same homotopy ntypes of the suspension of the wedges of the Eilenberg-MacL ane spaces is the one element set consisting of a single homotopy type of itself, i.e., SNT(Σ(K(Z, 2a_1) ∨ K(Z, 2a_2) ∨···∨ K(Z, 2a_k))) = * for a_1 a_2 ··· a_k, as a far more general conjecture than the original one of the same n-type posed by McG ibbon and M?ller(in [McG ibbon, C. In this paper we derive finite forms of the summation formulas for bilateral basic hypergeometric series 3ψ3,4ψ4 and 5ψ5.We therefrom obtain the summation formulae obtained recently by Wenchang CHU and Xiaoxia WANG.As applications of these summation formulae,we deduce the well-known Jacobi's two and four square theorems,a formula for the number of representations of an integer n as sum of four triangular numbers and some theta function identities.  相似文献

In this article we show that the order of the point value, in the sense of Lojasiewicz, of a tempered distribution and the order of summability of the pointwise Fourier inversion formula are closely related. Assuming that the order of the point values and certain order of growth at infinity are given for a tempered distribution, we estimate the order of summability of the Fourier inversion formula. For Fourier series, and in other cases, it is shown that if the distribution has a distributional point value of order k, then its Fourier series is e.v. Cesaro summable to the distributional point value of order k+1. Conversely, we also show that if the pointwise Fourier inversion formula is e.v. Cesaro summable of order k, then the distribution is the (k + 1)-th derivative of a locally integrable function, and the distribution has a distributional point value of order k + 2. We also establish connections between orders of summability and local behavior for other Fourier inversion problems.  相似文献

In this paper we estimate the degree of approximation of wavelet expansions. Our result shows that the degree has the exponential decay for function f(x) ∈ L2 continuous in a finite interval (a,b) which is much superior to those of approximation by polynomial operators and by expansions of classical orthogonal series.  相似文献

We show that several classical bilateral summation and transformation formulas have semi-finite forms. We obtain these semi-finite forms from unilateral summation and transformation formulas. Our method can be applied to derive Ramanujan's summation, Bailey's transformations, and Bailey's summation.

Chu has recently shown that the Abel lemma on summation by parts reveals the telescoping nature of Bailey's bilateral summation formula. We present a systematic approach to compute Abel pairs for bilateral and unilateral basic hypergeometric summation formulas by using the -Gosper algorithm. It is demonstrated that Abel pairs can be derived from Gosper pairs. This approach applies to many classical summation formulas.

A new object is introduced into the theory of partitions that generalizes plane partitions: cylindric partitions. We obtain the generating function for cylindric partitions of a given shape that satisfy certain row bounds as a sum of determinants of -binomial coefficients. In some special cases these determinants can be evaluated. Extending an idea of Burge (J. Combin. Theory Ser. A 63 (1993), 210-222), we count cylindric partitions in two different ways to obtain several known and new summation and transformation formulas for basic hypergeometric series for the affine root system . In particular, we provide new and elementary proofs for two basic hypergeometric summation formulas of Milne (Discrete Math. 99 (1992), 199-246).

We give elementary derivations of some classical summation formulae for bilateral (basic) hypergeometric series. In particular, we apply Gauß' summation and elementary series manipulations to give a simple proof of Dougall's summation. Similarly, we apply Rogers' nonterminating summation and elementary series manipulations to give a simple proof of Bailey's very-well-poised summation. Our method of proof extends M. Jackson's first elementary proof of Ramanujan's summation.

The problem of rational summation for a wide class ofp-adic convergent series is considered. Here, rational summation refers to the method of obtaining the rational sum of a power series for a rational value of its variable. A formula suitable for this summation is derived. Conditions for rational summability are obtained. Rational summation is possible only for special forms of the series. It is shown that the inverse problem of rational summation is always solvable. This is illustrated by some characteristic examples.
