For a graph G and two positive integers j and k, an m-L(j, k)-edge-labeling of G is an assignment on the edges to the set {0,..., m}, such that adjacent edges receive labels differing by at least j, and edges which are distance two apart receive labels differing by at least k. The λ′j,k-number of G is the minimum m of an m-L(j, k)-edge-labeling admitted by G.In this article, we study the L(1, 2)-edge-labeling for paths, cycles, complete graphs, complete multipartite graphs, infinite ?-regular trees and wheels.  相似文献

For positive integers j and k with j ≥ k, an L(j, k)-labeling of a graph G is an assignment of nonnegative integers to V(G) such that the difference between labels of adjacent vertices is at least j, and the difference between labels of vertices that are distance two apart is at least k. The span of an L(j, k)-labeling of a graph G is the difference between the maximum and minimum integers it uses. The λj, k-number of G is the minimum span taken over all L(j, k)-labelings of G. An m-(j, k)-circular labeling of a graph G is a function f : V(G) →{0, 1, 2,..., m - 1} such that |f(u) - f(v)|m ≥ j if u and v are adjacent; and |f(u) - f(v)|m 〉 k ifu and v are at distance two, where |x|m = min{|xl|, m-|x|}. The minimum integer m such that there exists an m-(j, k)-circular labeling of G is called the σj,k-number of G and is denoted by σj,k(G). This paper determines the σ2,1-number of the Cartesian product of any three complete graphs.  相似文献

An edge coloring totalk-labeling is a labeling of the vertices and the edges of a graph G with labels{1,2,...,k}such that the weights of the edges defne a proper edge coloring of G.Here the weight of an edge is the sum of its label and the labels of its two end vertices. This concept was introduce by Brandt et al.They defnedχt(G)to be the smallest integer k for which G has an edge coloring total k-labeling and proposed a question:Is there a constant K withχt(G)≤Δ(G)+12+K for all graphs G of maximum degreeΔ(G)?In this paper,we give a positive answer for outerplanar graphs by showing thatχt(G)≤Δ(G)+12+1 for each outerplanar graph G with maximum degreeΔ(G).  相似文献

A proper edge-k-coloring of a graph G is a mapping from E(G) to {1, 2,..., k} such that no two adjacent edges receive the same color. A proper edge-k-coloring of G is called neighbor sum distinguishing if for each edge uv ∈ E(G), the sum of colors taken on the edges incident to u is different from the sum of colors taken on the edges incident to v. Let χ_Σ'(G) denote the smallest value k in such a coloring of G. This parameter makes sense for graphs containing no isolated edges(we call such graphs normal). The maximum average degree mad(G) of G is the maximum of the average degrees of its non-empty subgraphs. In this paper, we prove that if G is a normal subcubic graph with mad(G) 5/2,then χ_Σ'(G) ≤ 5. We also prove that if G is a normal subcubic graph with at least two 2-vertices, 6 colors are enough for a neighbor sum distinguishing edge coloring of G, which holds for the list version as well.  相似文献

Let G be a weighted hypergraph with edges of size i for i = 1, 2. Let wi denote the total weight of edges of size i and α be the maximum weight of an edge of size 1. We study the following partitioning problem of Bollob′as and Scott: Does there exist a bipartition such that each class meets edges of total weight at least (w_1-α)/2+(2w_2)/3? We provide an optimal bound for balanced bipartition of weighted hypergraphs, partially establishing this conjecture. For dense graphs, we also give a result for partitions into more than two classes. In particular, it is shown that any graph G with m edges has a partition V_1,..., V_k such that each vertex set meets at least(1-(1-1/k)~2)m + o(m) edges, which answers a related question of Bollobás and Scott.  相似文献

A k-colouring(not necessarily proper) of vertices of a graph is called acyclic, if for every pair of distinct colours i and j the subgraph induced by the edges whose endpoints have colours i and j is acyclic. We consider acyclic k-colourings such that each colour class induces a graph with a given(hereditary) property. In particular, we consider acyclic k-colourings in which each colour class induces a graph with maximum degree at most t, which are referred to as acyclic t-improper k-colourings. The acyclic t-improper chromatic number of a graph G is the smallest k for which there exists an acyclic t-improper k-colouring of G. We focus on acyclic colourings of graphs with maximum degree 4. We prove that 3 is an upper bound for the acyclic 3-improper chromatic number of this class of graphs. We also provide a non-trivial family of graphs with maximum degree4 whose acyclic 3-improper chromatic number is at most 2, namely, the graphs with maximum average degree at most 3. Finally, we prove that any graph G with Δ(G) 4 can be acyclically coloured with 4 colours in such a way that each colour class induces an acyclic graph with maximum degree at most 3.  相似文献

For a proper edge coloring c of a graph G,if the sets of colors of adjacent vertices are distinct, the edge coloring c is called an adjacent strong edge coloring of G.Let c i be the number of edges colored by i.If |c i c j | ≤ 1 for any two colors i and j,then c is an equitable edge coloring of G.The coloring c is an equitable adjacent strong edge coloring of G if it is both adjacent strong edge coloring and equitable edge coloring. The least number of colors of such a coloring c is called the equitable adjacent strong chromatic index of G.In this paper,we determine the equitable adjacent strong chromatic index of the joins of paths and cycles.Precisely,we show that the equitable adjacent strong chromatic index of the joins of paths and cycles is equal to the maximum degree plus one or two.  相似文献

A class of antimagic join graphs   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
A labeling f of a graph G is a bijection from its edge set E(G) to the set {1, 2, . . . , |E(G)|}, which is antimagic if for any distinct vertices x and y, the sum of the labels on edges incident to x is different from the sum of the labels on edges incident to y. A graph G is antimagic if G has an f which is antimagic. Hartsfield and Ringel conjectured in 1990 that every connected graph other than K 2 is antimagic. In this paper, we show that if G 1 is an n-vertex graph with minimum degree at least r, and G 2 is an m-vertex graph with maximum degree at most 2r-1 (m ≥ n), then G1 ∨ G2 is antimagic.  相似文献

Let G be a simple graph. An IE-total coloring f of G is a coloring of the vertices and edges of G so that no two adjacent vertices receive the same color. For each vertex x of G, let C(x) be the set of colors of vertex x and edges incident to x under f. For an IE-total coloring f of G using k colors, if C(u) 6= C(v) for any two different vertices u and v of G, then f is called a k-vertex-distinguishing IE-total-coloring of G or a k-VDIET coloring of G for short. The minimum number of colors required for a VDIET coloring of G is denoted by χievt(G) and is called vertex-distinguishing IE-total chromatic number or the VDIET chromatic number of G for short. The VDIET colorings of complete bipartite graphs K8,n are discussed in this paper. Particularly, the VDIET chromatic number of K8,n are obtained.  相似文献

An acyclic edge coloring of a graph is a proper edge coloring such that every cycle contains edges of at least three distinct colors. The acyclic chromatic index of a graph G,denoted by a′(G),is the minimum number k such that there is an acyclic edge coloring using k colors. It is known that a′(G)≤16△for every graph G where △denotes the maximum degree of G.We prove that a′(G)13.8△for an arbitrary graph G.We also reduce the upper bounds of a′(G)to 9.8△and 9△with girth 5 and 7,respectively.  相似文献

An L(h,k)-labeling of a graph G is an integer labeling of vertices of G, such that adjacent vertices have labels which differ by at least h, and vertices at distance two have labels which differ by at least k. The span of an L(h,k)-labeling is the difference between the largest and the smallest label. We investigate L(h,k)-labelings of trees of maximum degree Δ, seeking those with small span. Given Δ, h and k, span λ is optimal for the class of trees of maximum degree Δ, if λ is the smallest integer such that every tree of maximum degree Δ has an L(h,k)-labeling with span at most λ. For all parameters Δ,h,k, such that h<k, we construct L(h,k)-labelings with optimal span. We also establish optimal span of L(h,k)-labelings for stars of arbitrary degree and all values of h and k.  相似文献

For a given graph G of order n, a k-L(2,1)-labelling is defined as a function f:V(G)→{0,1,2,…k} such that |f(u)-f(v)|?2 when dG(u,v)=1 and |f(u)-f(v)|?1 when dG(u,v)=2. The L(2,1)-labelling number of G, denoted by λ(G), is the smallest number k such that G has a k-L(2,1)-labelling. The hole index ρ(G) of G is the minimum number of integers not used in a λ(G)-L(2,1)-labelling of G. We say G is full-colorable if ρ(G)=0; otherwise, it will be called non-full colorable. In this paper, we consider the graphs with λ(G)=2m and ρ(G)=m, where m is a positive integer. Our main work generalized a result by Fishburn and Roberts [No-hole L(2,1)-colorings, Discrete Appl. Math. 130 (2003) 513-519].  相似文献

An L(2,1)-labeling of graph G is an integer labeling of the vertices in V(G) such that adjacent vertices receive labels which differ by at least two, and vertices which are distance two apart receive labels which differ by at least one. The λ-number of G is the minimum span taken over all L(2,1)-labelings of G. In this paper, we consider the λ-numbers of generalized Petersen graphs. By introducing the notion of a matched sum of graphs, we show that the λ-number of every generalized Petersen graph is bounded from above by 9. We then show that this bound can be improved to 8 for all generalized Petersen graphs with vertex order >12, and, with the exception of the Petersen graph itself, improved to 7 otherwise.  相似文献

For positive integers k,d1,d2, a k-L(d1,d2)-labeling of a graph G is a function f:V(G)→{0,1,2,…,k} such that |f(u)-f(v)|?di whenever the distance between u and v is i in G, for i=1,2. The L(d1,d2)-number of G, λd1,d2(G), is the smallest k such that there exists a k-L(d1,d2)-labeling of G. This class of labelings is motivated by the code (or frequency) assignment problem in computer network. This article surveys the results on this labeling problem.  相似文献

Sufficient conditions for restricted-edge-connectivity to be optimal   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
Zhao Zhang 《Discrete Mathematics》2007,307(22):2891-2899
For a connected graph G=(V,E), an edge set SE is a k-restricted-edge-cut if G-S is disconnected and every component of G-S has at least k vertices. The cardinality of a minimum k-restricted-edge-cut is the k-restricted-edge-connectivity of G, denoted by λk(G). In this paper, we study sufficient conditions for λk(G) to be optimal, especially when k=2 and 3.  相似文献

We consider the nonlinear quasiperiodic Pfaff system
$$\frac{{\partial x}}{{\partial t_j }} = F^{(j)} (t,x) + G^{(j)} (t,x)(j = 1,...,m).$$
Let K (j) be a frequency basis with respect to t j of the functions F (1),...,F (m), and let L (j) be a frequency basis with respect to t j of the functions G (1),...,G (m). Suppose that the set K (j)L (j) of numbers is rationally linearly independent. We obtain necessary and sufficient conditions for the existence of quasiperiodic solutions with frequency bases L (1),..., L (m).

We show that there exist a set of polynomials {Lk?k = 0, 1?} such that Lk(n) is the number of elements of rank k in the free distributive lattice on n generators. L0(n) = L1(n) = 1 for all n and the degree of Lk is k?1 for k?1. We show that the coefficients of the Lk can be calculated using another family of polynomials, Pj. We show how to calculate Lk for k = 1,…,16 and Pj for j = 0,…,10. These calculations are enough to determine the number of elements of each rank in the free distributive lattice on 5 generators a result first obtained by Church [2]. We also calculate the asymptotic behavior of the Lk's and Pj's.  相似文献

An edge-magic total labeling on G is a one-to-one map λ from V(G)∪E(G) onto the integers 1,2,…,|V(G)∪E(G)| with the property that, given any edge (x,y), λ(x)+λ(x,y)+λ(y)=k for some constant k. The labeling is strong if all the smallest labels are assigned to the vertices. Enomoto et al. proved that a graph admitting a strong labeling can have at most 2|V(G)|-3 edges. In this paper we study graphs of this maximum size.  相似文献

An edge set S of a connected graph G is a k-extra edge cut, if G-S is no longer connected, and each component of G-S has at least k vertices. The cardinality of a minimum k-extra edge cut, denoted by λk(G), is the k-extra edge connectivity of G. The kth isoperimetric edge connectivity γk(G) is defined as , where ω(U) is the number of edges with one end in U and the other end in . Write βk(G)=min{ω(U):UV(G),|U|=k}. A graph G with is said to be γk-optimal.In this paper, we first prove that λk(G)=γk(G) if G is a regular graph with girth g?k/2. Then, we show that except for K3,3 and K4, a 3-regular vertex/edge transitive graph is γk-optimal if and only if its girth is at least k+2. Finally, we prove that a connected d-regular edge-transitive graph with d?6ek(G)/k is γk-optimal, where ek(G) is the maximum number of edges in a subgraph of G with order k.  相似文献

A (proper) k-coloring of a graph G is a partition Π={V1,V2,…,Vk} of V(G) into k independent sets, called color classes. In a k-coloring Π, a vertex vVi is called a Grundy vertex if v is adjacent to at least one vertex in color class Vj, for every j, j<i. A k-coloring is called a Grundy coloring if every vertex is a Grundy vertex. A k-coloring is called a partial Grundy coloring if every color class contains at least one Grundy vertex. In this paper we introduce partial Grundy colorings, and relate them to parsimonious proper colorings introduced by Simmons in 1982.  相似文献
