In this paper we consider the decay and blow-up properties of a viscoelastic wave equation with boundary damping and source terms. We first extend the decay result (for the case of linear damping) obtained by Lu et al. (On a viscoelastic equation with nonlinear boundary damping and source terms: Global existence and decay of the solution, Nonlinear Analysis: Real World Applications 12 (1) (2011), 295-303) to the nonlinear damping case under weaker assumption on the relaxation function g(t). Then, we give an exponential decay result without the relation between g(t) and g(t) for the linear damping case, provided that ‖gL1(0,) is small enough. Finally, we establish two blow-up results: one is for certain solutions with nonpositive initial energy as well as positive initial energy for both the linear and nonlinear damping cases, the other is for certain solutions with arbitrarily positive initial energy for the linear damping case.  相似文献

The asymptotic behavior of solutions of the three-dimensional Navier-Stokes equations is considered on bounded smooth domains with no-slip boundary conditions and on periodic domains. Asymptotic regularity conditions are presented to ensure that the convergence of a Leray-Hopf weak solution to its weak ω-limit set (weak in the sense of the weak topology of the space H of square-integrable divergence-free velocity fields with the appropriate boundary conditions) are achieved also in the strong topology. It is proved that the weak ω-limit set is strongly compact and strongly attracts the corresponding solution if and only if all the solutions in the weak ω-limit set are continuous in the strong topology of H. Corresponding results for the strong convergence towards the weak global attractor of Foias and Temam are also presented. In this case, it is proved that the weak global attractor is strongly compact and strongly attracts the weak solutions, uniformly with respect to uniformly bounded sets of weak solutions, if and only if all the global weak solutions in the weak global attractor are strongly continuous in H.  相似文献

In this paper we prove a sufficient condition, in terms of the behavior of a ground state of a singular p  -Laplacian problem with a potential term, such that a nonzero subsolution of another such problem is also a ground state. Unlike in the linear case (p=2p=2), this condition involves comparison of both the functions and of their gradients.  相似文献

We study the Hölder regularity of weak solutions to the evolutionary p  -Laplacian system with critical growth on the gradient. We establish a natural criterion for proving that a small solution and its gradient are locally Hölder continuous almost everywhere. Actually our regularity result recovers the classical result in the case p=2p=2 [16] and can be applied to study the regularity of the heat flow for m-dimensional H-systems as well as the m-harmonic flow.  相似文献

For second order linear equations and inequalities which are degenerate elliptic but which possess a uniformly elliptic direction, we formulate and prove weak maximum principles which are compatible with a solvability theory in suitably weighted versions of L2-based Sobolev spaces. The operators are not necessarily in divergence form, have terms of lower order, and have low regularity assumptions on the coefficients. The needed weighted Sobolev spaces are, in general, anisotropic spaces defined by a non-negative continuous matrix weight. As preparation, we prove a Poincaré inequality with respect to such matrix weights and analyze the elementary properties of the weighted spaces. Comparisons to known results and examples of operators which are elliptic away from a hyperplane of arbitrary codimension are given. Finally, in the important special case of operators whose principal part is of Grushin type, we apply these results to obtain some spectral theory results such as the existence of a principal eigenvalue.  相似文献

In this paper, we study the initial-boundary value problem for a system of nonlinear wave equations, involving nonlinear damping terms, in a bounded domain Ω. The nonexistence of global solutions is discussed under some conditions on the given parameters. Estimates on the lifespan of solutions are also given. Our results extend and generalize the recent results in [K. Agre, M.A. Rammaha, System of nonlinear wave equations with damping and source terms, Differential Integral Equations 19 (2006) 1235-1270], especially, the blow-up of weak solutions in the case of non-negative energy.  相似文献

We investigate the sharp constants in a Brézis-Gallouët-Wainger type inequality with a double logarithmic term in the Hölder space in a bounded domain in Rn. Ibrahim, Majdoub and Masmoudi gave the sharp constant in the two-dimensional case. We make precise estimates to give the sharp constants, and pass to the case of higher dimensions n≥2. We can also show that the inequality with fixed constants including the sharp ones admits an extremal function under a suitable condition when the domain is a ball.  相似文献

The authors give a short survey of previous results on generalized normal homogeneous (δ-homogeneous, in other terms) Riemannian manifolds, forming a new proper subclass of geodesic orbit spaces with nonnegative sectional curvature, which properly includes the class of all normal homogeneous Riemannian manifolds. As a continuation and an application of these results, they prove that the family of all compact simply connected indecomposable generalized normal homogeneous Riemannian manifolds with positive Euler characteristic, which are not normal homogeneous, consists exactly of all generalized flag manifolds Sp(l)/U(1)⋅Sp(l−1)=CP2l−1, l?2, supplied with invariant Riemannian metrics of positive sectional curvature with the pinching constants (the ratio of the minimal sectional curvature to the maximal one) in the open interval (1/16,1/4). This implies very unusual geometric properties of the adjoint representation of Sp(l), l?2. Some unsolved questions are suggested.  相似文献

One of the features of solutions of semilinear wave equations can be found in blow-up results for non-compactly supported data. In spite of finite propagation speed of the linear wave, we have no global in time solution for any power nonlinearity if the spatial decay of the initial data is weak. This was first observed by Asakura (1986) [2] finding out a critical decay to ensure the global existence of the solution. But the blow-up result is available only for zero initial position having positive speed. In this paper the blow-up theorem for non-zero initial position by Uesaka (2009) [22] is extended to higher-dimensional case. And the assumption on the nonlinear term is relaxed to include an example, |u|p−1u. Moreover the critical decay of the initial position is clarified by example.  相似文献

In this paper we obtain a new global gradient estimates in weighted Lorentz spaces for weak solutions of p(x)p(x)-Laplacian type equation with small BMO coefficients in a δ-Reifenberg flat domain. The modified Vitali covering lemma, the maximal function technique and the appropriate localization method are the main analytical tools. Our results improve the known results for such equations.  相似文献

We consider a nonlinear elliptic equation driven by the p-Laplacian with Dirichlet boundary conditions. Using variational techniques combined with the method of upper-lower solutions and suitable truncation arguments, we establish the existence of at least five nontrivial solutions. Two positive, two negative and a nodal (sign-changing) solution. Our framework of analysis incorporates both coercive and p-superlinear problems. Also the result on multiple constant sign solutions incorporates the case of concave-convex nonlinearities.  相似文献

Coupled systems for a class of quasilinear parabolic equations and the corresponding elliptic systems, including systems of parabolic and ordinary differential equations are investigated. The aim of this paper is to show the existence, uniqueness, and asymptotic behavior of time-dependent solutions. Also investigated is the existence of positive maximal and minimal solutions of the corresponding quasilinear elliptic system. The elliptic operators in both systems are allowed to be degenerate in the sense that the density-dependent diffusion coefficients Di(ui) may have the property Di(0)=0 for some or all i=1,…,N, and the boundary condition is ui=0. Using the method of upper and lower solutions, we show that a unique global classical time-dependent solution exists and converges to the maximal solution for one class of initial functions and it converges to the minimal solution for another class of initial functions; and if the maximal and minimal solutions coincide then the steady-state solution is unique and the time-dependent solution converges to the unique solution. Applications of these results are given to three model problems, including a scalar polynomial growth problem, a coupled system of polynomial growth problem, and a two component competition model in ecology.  相似文献

In this paper we define time dependent parabolic Reifenberg domains and study Lp estimates for weak solutions of uniformly parabolic equations in divergence form on these domains. The basic assumption is that the principal coefficients are of parabolic BMO space with small parabolic BMO seminorms. It is shown that Lp estimates hold for time dependent parabolic δ-Reifenberg domains.  相似文献

In this article we study uniqueness of positive solutions for the nonlinear uniformly elliptic equation in RN, limr→∞u(r)=0, where denotes the Pucci's extremal operator with parameters 0<λ?Λ and p>1. It is known that all positive solutions of this equation are radially symmetric with respect to a point in RN, so the problem reduces to the study of a radial version of this equation. However, this is still a nontrivial question even in the case of the Laplacian (λ=Λ). The Pucci's operator is a prototype of a nonlinear operator in no-divergence form. This feature makes the uniqueness question specially challenging, since two standard tools like Pohozaev identity and global integration by parts are no longer available. The corresponding equation involving is also considered.  相似文献

In this paper was considered the scattering problem for the nonstationary Dirac-type systems of n (n?2) equations on the half-plane when the system has n1 (1?n1?n−1) incident and n2 (n2=nn1) scattered waves. In case n1 is divisible by n2, we formulate the inverse scattering problem for a nonstationary Dirac-type system when considering m () scattering problems on the half-plane with the same incident waves but different boundary conditions. Moreover, the scattering operator for the nonstationary Dirac-type system on half-plane was defined and unique restoration of the potential with respect to the scattering operator was proved.  相似文献

We consider a tumor model in which all cells are proliferating at a rate μ and their density is proportional to the nutrient concentration. The model consists of a coupled system of an elliptic equation and a parabolic equation, with the tumor boundary as a free boundary. It is known that for an appropriate choice of parameters, there exists a unique spherically symmetric stationary solution with radius RS which is independent of μ. It was recently proved that there is a function μ(RS) such that the spherical stationary solution is linearly stable if μ<μ(RS) and linearly unstable if μ>μ(RS). In this paper we prove that the spherical stationary solution is nonlinearly stable (or, asymptotically stable) if μ<μ(RS).  相似文献

We establish optimal gradient estimates in Orlicz space for a nonhomogeneous elliptic equation of higher order with discontinuous coefficients on a nonsmooth domain. Our assumption is that for each point and for each sufficiently small scale the coefficients have small mean oscillation and the boundary of the domain is sufficiently close to a hyperplane. As a consequence we prove the classical Wm,p, m=1,2,…, 1<p<∞, estimates for such a higher order equation. Our results easily extend to higher order elliptic and parabolic systems.  相似文献

The Ginzburg-Landau-Allen-Cahn equation is a variational model for phase coexistence and for other physical problems. It contains a term given by a kinetic part of elliptic type plus a double-well potential. We assume that the functional depends on the space variables in a periodic way.We show that given a plane with rational normal, there are minimal solutions, satisfying the following properties. These solutions are asymptotic to the pure phases and are separated by an interface. The convergence to the pure phases is exponentially fast. The interface lies at a finite distance M from the chosen plane, where M is a universal constant. Furthermore, these solutions satisfy some monotonicity properties with respect to integer translations (namely, integer translations are always comparable to the function). We then show that all the interfaces of the global periodic minimizers satisfy similar monotonicity and plane-like properties. We also consider the case of possibly irrationally oriented planes. We show that either there is a one parameter family of minimizers whose graphs provide a field of extremals or there are at least two solutions, one which is a minimizer and another one which is not. These solutions also have interfaces bounded by a universal constant, they enjoy monotonicity properties with respect to integer translations and the nonminimal solutions are trapped inside a gap of the lamination induced by the minimizers.  相似文献

We present and prove new characterizations of parabolicity and stochastic completeness for a general weighted manifold M as well as the uniqueness of the Markov extensions of the Laplacian in terms of Green?s formula. Moreover, we study the relationship between those properties and the singularity of M in terms of a fractal dimension and capacity.  相似文献
