In this paper, we define, motivated by recent works of Chang and Skoug, stochastic integrals for a generalized Brownian motion ( ) and then use it to study the representation problem on the linear space spanned by . Next, let be a polynomial ring where is a perfect field of characteristic , and let be a regular noetherian subring of containing such that . Suppose that is a free -module. Then, applying the above result to a tower of rings, we shall show that a polynomial of minimal degree in is a -basis of over .

It was proved in an earlier paper by the author that the Hochschild cohomology algebras of self-injective algebras are invariant under stable equivalences of Morita type. In this note we show that the orbit algebra of a self-injective algebra (considered as an --bimodule) is also invariant under stable equivalences of Morita type, where the orbit algebra is the algebra of all stable --bimodule morphisms from the non-negative Auslander-Reiten translations of to .

In this paper, we show that the dimension function of every semilinear -sphere is equal to that of a linear -sphere for finite nilpotent groups of order , where , are primes. We also show that there exists a semilinear -sphere whose dimension function is not virtually linear for an arbitrary nonsolvable compact Lie group .

We show that C. J. Read's example of an operator on which does not have any non-trivial invariant subspaces is not the adjoint of an operator on a predual of . Furthermore, we present a bounded diagonal operator such that even though is unbounded, the operator is a bounded operator on with invariant subspaces, and is adjoint to an operator on .

In both the Bergman space and the Hardy space , the problem of determining which bounded univalent mappings of the unit disk have the wandering property is addressed. Generally, a function in has the wandering property in , where denotes either or , provided that every -invariant subspace of is generated by the orthocomplement of within . It is known that essentially every function which has the wandering property in either space is the composition of a univalent mapping with a classical inner function, and that the identity mapping has this property in both spaces. Consequently, weak-star generators of also have the wandering property in both settings. The present paper gives a partial converse to this, and shows that in both settings there is a large class of bounded univalent mappings which fail to have the wandering property.

If is an odd prime, a finite group and a Sylow--subgroup of , a theorem of Glauberman and Thompson states that is -nilpotent if and only if is -nilpotent, where is the Thompson subgroup of generated by all abelian subgroups of of maximal order. Suppose is a maximal ideal of a commutative integral domain and that some power of is finitely generated. We show that is finitely generated in each of the following cases: (i) is of height one, (ii) is integrally closed and , (iii) is a monoid domain over a field , where is a cancellative torsion-free monoid such that , and is the maximal ideal . We extend the above results to ideals of a reduced ring such that is Noetherian. We prove that a reduced ring is Noetherian if each prime ideal of has a power that is finitely generated. For each with , we establish existence of a -dimensional integral domain having a nonfinitely generated maximal ideal of height such that is -generated.

We show that the celebrated Lomonosov theorem cannot be improved by increasing the number of commuting operators. Specifically, we prove that if is the operator without a non-trivial closed invariant subspace constructed by C. J. Read, then there are three operators , and (non-multiples of the identity) such that commutes with , commutes with , commutes with , and is compact. It is also shown that the commutant of contains only series of .

An open cover of a topological space is said to be an -cover if there is for each finite subset of the space a member of the cover which contains the finite set, but the space itself is not a member of the cover. We prove theorems which imply that a set of real numbers has Rothberger's property if, and only if, for each positive integer , for each -cover of , and for each function from the two-element subsets of , there is a subset of such that is constant on , and each element of belongs to infinitely many elements of (Theorem 1). A similar characterization is given of Menger's property for sets of real numbers (Theorem 6).

Let be a bounded domain in , , with boundary , and consider the semilinear elliptic boundary value problem

A well known result of Rabinowitz shows that an unbounded continuum of positive solutions of this problem bifurcates from the principal eigenvalue of the linear problem. We show that under certain oscillation conditions on the nonlinearity , this continuum oscillates about , in a certain sense, as it approaches infinity. Hence, in particular, the equation has infinitely many positive solutions for each in an open interval containing .

A torsion-free abelian group is if every map from a pure subgroup of into lifts to an endomorphism of The class of groups has been extensively studied, resulting in a number of nice characterizations. We obtain some characterizations for the class of homogeneous groups, those homogeneous groups such that, for pure in every has a lifting to a quasi-endomorphism of An irreducible group is if and only if every pure subgroup of each of its strongly indecomposable quasi-summands is strongly indecomposable. A group is if and only if every endomorphism of is an integral multiple of an automorphism. A group has minimal test for quasi-equivalence ( if whenever and are quasi-isomorphic pure subgroups of then and are equivalent via a quasi-automorphism of For homogeneous groups, we show that in almost all cases the and properties coincide.
