A new iteration method for nonlinear vibrations has been developed by decomposing the periodic solution in two parts corresponding to low and high harmonics. For a nonlinear forced oscillator, the iteration schema is proposed with different formulations for these two parts. Then, the schema is deduced by using the harmonic balance technique. This method has proven to converge to the periodic solutions provided that a convergence condition is satisfied. The convergence is also demonstrated analytically for linear oscillators. Moreover, the new method has been applied to Duffing oscillators as an example. The numerical results show that each iteration schema converges in a domain of the excitation frequency and it can converge to different solutions of the nonlinear oscillator.  相似文献

Stochastic chaos discussed here means a kind of chaotic responses in a Duffing oscillator with bounded random parameters under harmonic excitations. A system with random parameters is usually called a stochastic system. The modifier ‘stochastic’ here implies dependent on some random parameter. As the system itself is stochastic, so is the response, even under harmonic excitations alone. In this paper stochastic chaos and its control are verified by the top Lyapunov exponent of the system. A non-feedback control strategy is adopted here by adding an adjustable noisy phase to the harmonic excitation, so that the control can be realized by adjusting the noise level. It is found that by this control strategy stochastic chaos can be tamed down to the small neighborhood of a periodic trajectory or an equilibrium state. In the analysis the stochastic Duffing oscillator is first transformed into an equivalent deterministic nonlinear system by the Gegenbauer polynomial approximation, so that the problem of controlling stochastic chaos can be reduced into the problem of controlling deterministic chaos in the equivalent system. Then the top Lyapunov exponent of the equivalent system is obtained by Wolf’s method to examine the chaotic behavior of the response. Numerical simulations show that the random phase control strategy is an effective way to control stochastic chaos.  相似文献

There exist many types of external excitations that make the damping oscillator with impact have complex dynamics. In this study, both external impulsive excitation and impact are considered to construct a vibro-impact system. The fixed time pulse (impulsive excitation) and the state pulse (impact) lead to the complex and interesting dynamics. The conditions of the existence and stability of four kinds of periodic solutions are investigated, and the bifurcations of period-(1, 0) and period-(1, 1) solutions are analytically studied. Numerical simulations on periodic solutions and bifurcation diagrams are shown by the illustrative example.  相似文献

This paper applies bifurcation analysis to the well-known van der Pol oscillator to obtain approximations of its periodic solutions in the nearly sinusoidal regime. A frequency domain method based on harmonic balance approximations is used for small values of the bifurcation parameter. Moreover, a comparison with some other frequency domain approaches is also given. Finally, a total harmonic distortion is computed using the information provided by the frequency domain approach.

Based on the analysis of a two-degree-of-freedom plastic impact oscillator, we introduce a three-dimensional map with dynamical variables defined at the impact instants. The non-linear dynamics of the vibro-impact system is analyzed by using the Poincaré map, in which piecewise property and singularity are found to exist. The piecewise property is caused by the transitions of free flight and sticking motions of two masses immediately after the impact, and the singularity of map is generated via the grazing contact of two masses and corresponding instability of periodic motions. These properties of the map have been shown to exhibit particular types of sliding and grazing bifurcations of periodic-impact motions under parameter variation. Simulations of the free flight and sticking solutions are carried out, and regions of existence and stability of different impact motions are therefore presented in (δω) plane of dimensionless clearance δ and frequency ω. The influence of non-standard bifurcations on dynamics of the vibro-impact system is elucidated accordingly.  相似文献

The discontinuous dynamics of a non-linear, friction-induced, periodically forced oscillator is studied. The analytical conditions for motion switchability at the velocity boundary in such a nonlinear oscillator are developed to understand the motion switching mechanism. Using such analytical conditions of motion switching, numerical predictions of the switching scenarios varying with excitation frequency and amplitude are carried out, and the parameter maps for specific periodic motions are presented. Chaotic and periodic motions are illustrated through phase planes and switching sections for a better understanding of motion mechanism of the nonlinear friction oscillator. The periodic motions with switching in such a nonlinear, frictional oscillator cannot be obtained from the traditional analysis (e.g., perturbation and harmonic balance method).  相似文献

In this paper, a successive integration technique is suggested for solving the Duffing oscillator equation with damping and excitation. In the technique, one performs integrations from some initial values over a wider range. Some of them may even be divergent; however, some of them will give a convergent result such that the periodic condition of motion is satisfied. In fact, the convergent result represents a stable periodic solution for the motion. If a convergent result or a stable periodic solution is obtained, the stability test is passed. A harmonic balance method in conjunction with the successive integration technique (abbreviated as HBMSIT) is also suggested. In the method, the initial values are obtained from the harmonic balance method. Therefore, the HBMSIT belongs to the successive integration techniques. Many examples with calculated results are presented.  相似文献

In this paper, bifurcation trees of periodic motions in a periodically forced, time-delayed, hardening Duffing oscillator are analytically predicted by a semi-analytical method. Such a semi-analytical method is based on the differential equation discretization of the time-delayed, nonlinear dynamical system. Bifurcation trees for the stable and unstable solutions of periodic motions to chaos in such a time-delayed, Duffing oscillator are achieved analytically. From the finite discrete Fourier series, harmonic frequency-amplitude curves for stable and unstable solutions of period-1 to period-4 motions are developed for a better understanding of quantity levels, singularity and catastrophes of harmonic amplitudes in the frequency domain. From the analytical prediction, numerical results of periodic motions in the time-delayed, hardening Duffing oscillator are completed. Through the numerical illustrations, the complexity and asymmetry of period-1 motions to chaos in nonlinear dynamical systems are strongly dependent on the distributions and quantity levels of harmonic amplitudes. With the quantity level increases of specific harmonic amplitudes, effects of the corresponding harmonics on the periodic motions become strong, and the certain complexity and asymmetry of periodic motion and chaos can be identified through harmonic amplitudes with higher quantity levels.  相似文献

We propose a numerical-symbolic method for the approximation of periodic solutions of a type of non-linear ODE. The efficiency of our method is contrasted with the harmonic balance method and with another one which combines the differential transformation method with Padé approximants on a non trivial example: the relativistic oscillator. It is shown that our method is computationally more reliable.  相似文献

Bipolar II disorder is characterized by alternating hypomanic and major depressive episode. We model the periodic mood variations of a bipolar II patient with a negatively damped harmonic oscillator. The medications administrated to the patient are modeled via a forcing function that is capable of stabilizing the mood variations and of varying their amplitude. We analyze analytically, using perturbation method, the amplitude and stability of limit cycles and check this analysis with numerical simulations.  相似文献

It is shown that a transformation of time can allow the periodic solution of a strongly nonlinear oscillator to be written as a simple cosine function. This enables the stability of strongly nonlinear normal modes in multidegree of freedom systems to be investigated by standard procedures such as harmonic balance.  相似文献

This paper investigates the steady state bifurcation of a periodically excited system subject to time-delayed feedback controls by the combined method of residue harmonic balance and polynomial homotopy continuation. Three kinds of delayed feedback controls are considered to examine the effects of different delayed feedback controls and delay time on the steady state response. By means of polynomial homotopy continuation, all the possible steady state solutions corresponding the third-order superharmonic and second-subharmonic responses are derived analytically, i.e. without numerical integration. It is found that the delayed feedback changes the bifurcating curves qualitatively and possibly eliminates the saddle-node bifurcation during resonant. The delayed position-velocity coupling and the delayed velocity feedback controls can destabilize the steady state responses. Coexisting periodic solutions, period-doubling bifurcation and even chaos are found in these control systems. The neighborhood of the periodic solutions is verified numerically in the phase portraits. The various effects of time delay on the steady state response are investigated. Many new phenomena are observed.  相似文献

A new method to construct coherent states of a time-dependent forced harmonic oscillator was given. The close relation to the classical forced oscillator and the minimum uncertainty relation were investigated. The applied periodic force (off-resonance case), in general, will attenuate the AA phase.  相似文献

This paper investigates the interaction effect of horizontal fast harmonic parametric excitation and time delay on self-excited vibration in van der Pol oscillator. We apply the method of direct partition of motion to derive the main autonomous equation governing the slow dynamic of the oscillator. The method of averaging is then performed on the slow dynamic to obtain a slow flow which is analyzed for equilibria and periodic motion. This analysis provides analytical approximations of regions in parameter space where periodic self-excited vibrations can be eliminated. A numerical study is performed on the original oscillator and compared to analytical approximations. It was shown that in the delayed case, horizontal fast harmonic excitation can eliminate undesirable self-excited vibrations for moderate values of the excitation frequency. In contrast, the case without delay requires large excitation frequency to eliminate such motions. This work has application to regenerative behavior in high-speed milling.  相似文献

This paper presents the non-linear dynamic analysis of a flexible rotor having unbalanced and supported by ball bearings. The rolling element bearings are modeled as two degree of freedom elements where the kinematics of the rolling elements are taken into account, as well as the internal clearance and the Hertz contact non-linearity. In order to calculate the periodic response of this non-linear system, the harmonic balance method is used. This method is implemented with an exact condensation strategy to reduce the computational time. Moreover, the stability of the non-linear system is analyzed in the frequency-domain by a method based on a perturbation applied to the known harmonic solution in the time domain.  相似文献

Periodic motions of the nonlinear system representing the escape equation with cosine and sine parametric excitations and external harmonic excitations are obtained by the incremental harmonic balance (IHB) method. The system contains quadratic stiffness terms. The Jacobian matrix and the residue vector for the type of nonlinearity with parametric excitation are explicitly derived. An arc length path following procedure is used in combination with Floquet theory to trace the response diagram and to investigate the stability of the periodic solutions. The system undergoes chaotic motion for increase in the amplitude of the harmonic excitation which is investigated by numerical integration and represented in terms of phase planes, Poincaré sections and Lyapunov exponents. The interpolated cell mapping (ICM) method is used to obtain the initial condition map corresponding to two coexisting period 1 motions. The periodic motions and bifurcation points obtained by the IHB method compare very well with results of numerical integration.  相似文献

This paper presents an innovative analytical approximate method for constructing the primary resonance response of harmonically forced oscillators with strongly general nonlinearity. A linearization process is introduced prior to harmonic balancing (HB) of the nonlinear system and a linear system is derived by which the accurate analytical approximation procedure is easily and innovatively implemented. The main cutting edge of the proposed method is that complicated and coupled nonlinear algebraic equations obtained by the classical HB method is avoided. With only one iteration, very accurate analytical approximate primary resonance response can be determined, even for significantly nonlinear systems. Another advantage is the direct determination of the maximum oscillation amplitude. This is due to the appropriate form chosen for the approximation with no extra processing required. It is concluded that the result of an initial approximate solution from the two-term (constant plus the first harmonic term) harmonic balance is not reliable especially for strongly nonlinear systems and a correction to the initial approximation is necessary. The proposed method can be applied to general oscillators with mixed nonlinearities, such as the Helmholtz-Duffing oscillator. Two examples are presented to illustrate the applicability and effectiveness of the proposed technique.  相似文献

In this paper, we investigate the damping characteristics of two Duffing–van der Pol oscillators having damping terms described by fractional derivative and time delay respectively. The residue harmonic balance method is presented to find periodic solutions. No small parameter is assumed. Highly accurate limited cycle frequency and amplitude are captured. The results agree well with the numerical solutions for a wide range of parameters. Based on the obtained solutions, the damping effects of these two oscillators are investigated. When the system parameters are identical, the steady state responses and their stability are qualitatively different. The initial approximations are obtained by solving a few harmonic balance equations. They are improved iteratively by solving linear equations of increasing dimension. The second-order solutions accurately exhibit the dynamical phenomena when taking the fractional derivative and time delay as bifurcation parameters respectively. When damping is described by time delay, the stable steady state response is more complex because time delay takes past history into account implicitly. Numerical examples taking time delay and fractional derivative are respectively given for feature extraction and convergence study.  相似文献

We study the structure of the periodic steady-state solutions of forced and damped strongly nonlinear coupled oscillators in the frequency–energy domain by constructing forced and damped frequency – energy plots (FEPs). Specifically, we analyze the steady periodic responses of a two degree-of-freedom system consisting of a grounded forced linear damped oscillator weakly coupled to a strongly nonlinear attachment under condition of 1:1 resonance. By performing complexification/averaging analysis we develop analytical approximations for strongly nonlinear steady-state responses. As an application, we examine vibration isolation of a harmonically forced linear oscillator by transferring and confining the steady-state vibration energy to the weakly coupled strongly nonlinear attachment, thereby drastically reducing its steady-state response. By comparing the nonlinear steady-state response of the linear oscillator to its corresponding frequency response function in the absence of a nonlinear attachment we demonstrate the efficacy of drastic vibration reduction through steady-state nonlinear targeted energy transfer. Hence, our study has practical implications for the effective passive vibration isolation of forced oscillators.  相似文献
