Let k be a field finitely generated over ℚ and p a prime. The torsion conjecture (resp. p-primary torsion conjecture) for abelian varieties over k predicts that the k-rational torsion (resp. the p-primary k-rational torsion) of a d-dimensional abelian variety A over k should be bounded only in terms of k and d. These conjectures are only known for d=1. The p-primary case was proved by Y. Manin, in 1969; the general case was completed by L. Merel, in 1996, after a series of contributions by B. Mazur, S. Kamienny and others. Due to the fact that moduli of elliptic curves are 1-dimensional, the d=1 case of the torsion conjecture (resp. p-primary torsion conjecture) is closely related to the following. For any k-curve S and elliptic scheme ES, the k-rational torsion (resp. the p-primary k-rational torsion) is uniformly bounded in the fibres E s , sS(k). In this paper, we extend this result in the p-primary case to arbitrary abelian schemes over curves.  相似文献

The author proves a conjecture of the author: IfG is a semisimple real algebraic defined over ℚ, Γ is an arithmetic subgroup (with respect to the given ℚ-structure) andA is a diagonalizable subgroup admitting a divergent trajectory inG/Γ, then dimA≤ rank G.  相似文献

Let G be an abelian p-group and K be a field of the first kind with respect to p of char K ≠p and of sp(K) = N or NU {0}. Then it is shown that the normed Sylow p-subgroup S(KG) is torsion complete if and only if G is bounded (Theorem 1). An analogous fact is proved for the case when K is of the second kind (Theorem 2). These completely settle a conjecture posed by us in Compt. Rend. Acad. Bulg. Sci. (1993) and are also a supplement to our result in the modular case published in Acta Math. Hungar. (1997).  相似文献

We prove that for all positive integers k, there exists an integer N =N(k) such that the following holds. Let G be a graph and let Γ an abelian group with no element of order two. Let γ: E(G)→Γ be a function from the edges of G to the elements of Γ. A non-zero cycle is a cycle C such that Σ eE(C) γ(e) ≠ 0 where 0 is the identity element of Γ. Then G either contains k vertex disjoint non-zero cycles or there exists a set XV (G) with |X| ≤N(k) such that G−X contains no non-zero cycle.  相似文献

The Erdős-Sós conjecture says that a graph G on n vertices and number of edges e(G) > n(k− 1)/2 contains all trees of size k. In this paper we prove a sufficient condition for a graph to contain every tree of size k formulated in terms of the minimum edge degree ζ(G) of a graph G defined as ζ(G) = min{d(u) + d(v) − 2: uvE(G)}. More precisely, we show that a connected graph G with maximum degree Δ(G) ≥ k and minimum edge degree ζ(G) ≥ 2k − 4 contains every tree of k edges if d G (x) + d G (y) ≥ 2k − 4 for all pairs x, y of nonadjacent neighbors of a vertex u of d G (u) ≥ k.  相似文献

Let G be an arbitrary Abelian group. A subgroup A of G is said to be quasi-purifiable in G if there exists a pure subgroup H of G containing A such that A is almost-dense in H and H/A is torsion. Such a subgroup H is called a “quasi-pure hull” of A in G. We prove that if G is an Abelian group whose maximal torsion subgroup is torsion-complete, then all subgroups A are quasi-purifiable in G and all maximal quasi-pure hulls of A are isomorphic. Every subgroup A of a torsion-complete p-primary group G is contained in a minimal direct summand of G that is a minimal pure torsion-complete subgroup containing A. An Abelian group G is said to be an “ADE decomposable group” if there exist an ADE subgroup K of G and a subgroup T′ of T(G) such that G = KT′. An Abelian group whose maximal torsion subgroup is torsion-complete is ADE decomposable. Hence direct products of cyclic groups are ADE decomposable groups.  相似文献

We prove the integral Novikov conjecture for torsion free S-arithmetic subgroups Γ of linear reductive algebraic groups G of rank 0 over a global field k. They form a natural class of groups and are in general not discrete subgroups of Lie groups with finitely many connected components. Since many natural S-arithmetic subgroups contain torsion elements, we also prove a generalized integral Novikov conjecture for S-arithmetic subgroups of such algebraic groups, which contain torsion elements. These S-arithmetic subgroups also provide a natural class of groups with cofinite universal spaces for proper actions. Partially Supported by NSF grants DMS 0405884 and 0604878.  相似文献

For the cyclotomic \mathbb Z2{\mathbb Z_2}-extension k of an imaginary quadratic field k, we consider whether the Galois group G(k ) of the maximal unramified pro-2-extension over k is abelian or not. The group G(k ) is abelian if and only if the nth layer of the \mathbb Z2{\mathbb {Z}_2}-extension has abelian 2-class field tower for all n ≥ 1. The purpose of this paper is to classify all such imaginary quadratic fields k in part by using Iwasawa polynomials.  相似文献

Let (A, θ) be a principally polarized abelian threefold over a perfect field k, not isomorphic to a product over [`(k)]{\bar k} . There exists a canonical extension k′/k, of degree ≤ 2, such that (A, θ) becomes isomorphic to a Jacobian over k′. The aim of this note is to give a geometric construction of this extension.  相似文献

Let G denote a finite group and cd (G) the set of irreducible character degrees of G. Bertram Huppert conjectured that if H is a finite nonabelian simple group such that cd (G) = cd (H), then G ≅ H × A, where A is an abelian group. Huppert verified the conjecture for PSp4(q) when q = 3, 4, 5, or 7. In this paper, we extend Huppert’s results and verify the conjecture for PSp4(q) for all q. This demonstrates progress toward the goal of verifying the conjecture for all nonabelian simple groups of Lie type of rank two.  相似文献

The paper deals with the structure of intermediate subgroups of the general linear group GL(n, k) of degree n over a field k of odd characteristic that contain a nonsplit maximal torus related to a radical extension of degree n of the ground field k. The structure of ideal nets over a ring that determine the structure of intermediate subgroups containinga transvection is given. Let K = k( n?{d} ) K = k\left( {\sqrt[n]{d}} \right) be a radical degree-n extension of a field k of odd characteristic, and let T =(d) be a nonsplit maximal torus, which is the image of the multiplicative group of the field K under the regular embedding in G =GL(n, k). In the paper, the structure of intermediate subgroups H, THG, that contain a transvection is studied. The elements of the matrices in the torus T = T (d) generate a subring R(d) in the field k.Let R be an intermediate subring, R(d) ⊆ Rk, dR. Let σR denote the net in which the ideal dR stands on the principal diagonal and above it and all entries of which beneath the principal diagonal are equal to R. Let σR denote the net in which all positions on the principal diagonal and beneath it are occupied by R and all entries above the principal diagonal are equal to dR. Let ER) be the subgroup generated by all transvections from the net group GR). In the paper it is proved that the product TER) is a group (and thus an intermediate subgroup). If the net σ associated with an intermediate subgroup H coincides with σR,then TER) ≤ HNR),where NR) is the normalizer of the elementary net group ER) in G. For the normalizer NR),the formula NR)= TGR) holds. In particular, this result enables one to describe the maximal intermediate subgroups. Bibliography: 13 titles.  相似文献

Suppose Γ is a group acting on a set X, written as (Γ,X). An r-labeling f: X→{1,2, ..., r} of X is called distinguishing for (Γ,X) if for all σ∈Γ,σ≠1, there exists an element xX such that f(x)≠f(x σ ). The distinguishing number d(Γ,X) of (Γ,X) is the minimum r for which there is a distinguishing r-labeling for (Γ,X). If Γ is the automorphism group of a graph G, then d(Γ,V (G)) is denoted by d(G), and is called the distinguishing number of the graph G. The distinguishing set of Γ-actions is defined to be D*(Γ)={d(Γ,X): Γ acts on X}, and the distinguishing set of Γ-graphs is defined to be D(Γ)={d(G): Aut(G)≅Γ}. This paper determines the distinguishing set of Γ-actions and the distinguishing set of Γ-graphs for almost simple groups Γ.  相似文献

Let G be a finite abelian group with |G| > 1. Let a 1, …, a k be k distinct elements of G and let b 1, …, b k be (not necessarily distinct) elements of G, where k is a positive integer smaller than the least prime divisor of |G|. We show that there is a permutation π on {1, …,k} such that a 1 b π(1), …, a k b π(k) are distinct, provided that any other prime divisor of |G| (if there is any) is greater than k!. This in particular confirms the Dasgupta-Károlyi-Serra-Szegedy conjecture for abelian p-groups. We also pose a new conjecture involving determinants and characters, and show that its validity implies Snevily’s conjecture for abelian groups of odd order. Our methods involve exterior algebras and characters.  相似文献

We define the concept of level for arbitrary subgroups Γ of finite index in the special linear group SL2(A S), whereA S is the ring ofS-integers of a global fieldk provided thatk is an algebraic number field, or card (S) ≥ 2. It is shown that this concept agrees with the usual notion of ‘Stufe’ for congruence subgroups. In the case SL2(O),O the ring of integers of an imaginary quadratic number field, this criterion for deciding whether or not an arbitrary subgroup of finite index is a congruence subgroup is used to determine the minimum of the indices of non-congruence subgroups.  相似文献

LetH, G be finite groups such thatH acts onG and each non-trivial element ofH fixes at mostf elements ofG. It is shown that, ifG is sufficiently large, thenH has the structure of a Frobenius complement. This result depends on the classification of finite simple groups. We conclude that, ifG is a finite group andAG is any non-cyclic abelian subgroup, then the order ofG is bounded above in terms of the maximal order of a centralizerC G(a) for 1≠aA.  相似文献

LetG be a connected complex semisimple Lie group. Let Γ be a cocompact lattice inG. In this paper, we show that whenG isSL 2(C), nontrivial deformations of the canonical complex structure onX exist if and only if the first Betti number of the lattice Γ is non-zero. It may be remarked that for a wide class of arithmetic groups Γ, one can find a subgroup Γ′ of finite index in Γ, such that Γ′/[Γ′,Γ′] is finite (it is a conjecture of Thurston that this is true for all cocompact lattices inSL(2, C)). We also show thatG acts trivially on the coherent cohomology groupsH i(Γ/G, O) for anyi≥0.  相似文献

Given a group G, Γ(G) is the graph whose vertices are the primes that divide the degree of some irreducible character and two vertices p and q are joined by an edge if pq divides the degree of some irreducible character of G. By a definition of Lewis, a graph Γ has bounded Fitting height if the Fitting height of any solvable group G with Γ(G)=Γ is bounded (in terms of Γ). In this note, we prove that there exists a universal constant C such that if Γ has bounded Fitting height and Γ(G)=Γ then h(G)≤C. This solves a problem raised by Lewis. LetG be a locally compact abelian group and Γ its dual group. For any closedHG denote the algebra of restrictions toH of Fourier transforms of functions inL 1(Γ) byA(H). This paper considers certain Cantor like sets inR and ΠZ m(j) and gives some necessary algebraic criterion fornatural isomorphisms of their restriction algebras. In this paper we give a criterion when an indecomposable principally polarized abelian threefold (A, a) defined over a field k = ℂ is a Jacobian over k. More precisely, (A, a) is a Jacobian over k if and only if the value of a certain geometric Siegel modular form χ18(A, a) is a square over k. This answers a question of J.-P. Serre.  相似文献

Let G be a finite non-Abelian group. We define a graph Γ G ; called the noncommuting graph of G; with a vertex set GZ(G) such that two vertices x and y are adjacent if and only if xyyx: Abdollahi, Akbari, and Maimani put forward the following conjecture (the AAM conjecture): If S is a finite non-Abelian simple group and G is a group such that Γ S ≅ Γ G ; then SG: It is still unknown if this conjecture holds for all simple finite groups with connected prime graph except \mathbbA10 {\mathbb{A}_{10}} , L 4(8), L 4(4), and U 4(4). In this paper, we prove that if \mathbbA16 {\mathbb{A}_{16}} denotes the alternating group of degree 16; then, for any finite group G; the graph isomorphism G\mathbbA16 @ GG {\Gamma_{{\mathbb{A}_{16}}}} \cong {\Gamma_G} implies that \mathbbA16 @ G {\mathbb{A}_{16}} \cong G .  相似文献
