The module of differentials and p-bases of a ring extension

Let R ^p ? R ¹ ? Rbe a tower of rings of prime characteristic p. When R has locally p-bases over R ¹ and is finitely presented as R ¹-module, we study the existence of a p-basis of R over R ¹ and the condition that the module ω _{R/R ¹} of Kähler differentials of R over R ¹ is to be free.     

On Integrable Delta Functions on the Levi-Civita Field

In this paper, we develop a theory of integrable delta functions on the Levi-Civita field R as well as on R² and R³ with similar properties to the one-dimensional, two-dimensional and three-dimensional Dirac Delta functions and which reduce to them when restricted to points in R, R² and R³, respectively. First we review the recently developed Lebesgue-like measure and integration theory over R, R² and R³. Then we introduce delta functions on R, R² and R³ that are integrable in the context of the aforementioned integration theory; and we study their properties and some applications.     

On rings in which every maximal one-sided ideal contains a maximal ideal

Given a ring R, consider the condition: (^*) every maximal right ideal of R contains a maximal ideal of R. We show that, for a ring R and 0 ≠ e ² = e ∈ R such that ele ? eRe every proper ideal I of R R satisfies (^*) if and only if eRe satisfies (^*). Hence with the help of some other results, (^*) is a Morita invariant property. For a simple ring R R[x] satisfies (^*) if and only if R[x] is not right primitive. By this result, if R is a division ring and R[x] satisfies (^*), then the Jacobson conjecture holds. We also show that for a finite centralizing extension S of a ring R R satisfies (^*) if and only if S satisfies (^*).     

Lp (?m × ?n) boundedness for the Marcinkiewicz integral on product spaces

L^p(R^m × Rⁿ) boundedness is considered for the multiple Marcinkiewicz integral. Some size conditions implying the L^p(R^m × Rⁿ) boundedness of the multiple Marcinkiewicz integral for some fixed 1 > p > ∞ are obtained.     

Invariants of Lie superalgebras acting on associative algebras

LetR be a semiprime algebra over a fieldK acted on by a finite-dimensional Lie superalgebraL. The purpose of this paper is to prove a series of going-up results showing how the structure of the subalgebra of invariantsR ^Lis related to that ofR. Combining several of our main results we have: Theorem: Let R be a semiprime K-algebra acted on by a finite-dimensional nilpotent Lie superalgebra L such that if characteristic K=p then L is restricted and if characteristic, K=0 then L acts on R as algebraic derivations and algebraic superderivations.

1. If R^L is right Noetherian, then R is a Noetherian right R^L-module. In particular, R is right Noetherian and is a finitely generated right R^L-module.
2. If R^L is right Artinian, then R is an Artinian right R^L-module. In particular, R is right Artinian and is a finitely generated right R^L-module.
3. If R^L is finite-dimensional over K then R is also finite-dimensional over K.
4. If R^L has finite Goldie dimension as a right R^L-module, then R has finite Goldie dimension as a right R-module.
5. If R^L has Krull dimension α as a right R^L-module, then R has Krull dimension α as a right R^L-module. Thus R has Krull dimension at most α as a right R-module.
6. If R is prime and R^L is central, then R satisfies a polynomial identity.
7. If L is a Lie algebra and R^L is central, then R satisfies a polynomial identity.

We also provide counterexamples to many questions which arise in view of the results in this paper.     

Semiprime Goldie centralizers

LetG be a finite group of automorphisms acting on a ringR, andR ^G={fixed points ofG}. We show that under certain conditions onR andG, whenR ^Gis semiprime Goldie then so isR. In particular, ifa∈R is invertible anda ⁿ∈Z(R), thenR ^G,withG generated by the inner automorphism determined bya, is the centralizer ofa—C _R(a). The above result withR ^Greplaced byC _R(a) is shown without the assumption thata is invertible.     

Semiprime ideals in rings with finite group actions

LetR be a ring, G a finite group of automorphisms acting on R, and R^G the-fixed subring of R. We prove that if R is semiprime with no additive ¦ G¦-torsion, then R is left Goldie if and only if R^G is left Goldie. By coupling this with an examination of the prime ideal structures of R^G and R, we are able to prove that if ¦G ¦ is invertible in R and R^G is left Noetherian, then R satisfies the-ascending chain condition on semiprime ideals, every semiprime factor ring of R is left Goldie, and nil subrings of R are nilpotent. For the pair R^G and R, we also consider various other properties of prime and maximal ideals such as lying over, going up, going down, and incomparability.

Homological properties of the perfect and absolute integral closures of Noetherian domains

For a Noetherian local domain R let R ⁺ be the absolute integral closure of R and let R _∞ be the perfect closure of R, when R has prime characteristic. In this paper we investigate the projective dimension of residue rings of certain ideals of R ⁺ and R _∞. In particular, we show that any prime ideal of R _∞ has a bounded free resolution of countably generated free R _∞-modules. Also, we show that the analogue of this result is true for the maximal ideals of R ⁺, when R has residue prime characteristic. We compute global dimensions of R ⁺ and R _∞ in some cases. Some applications of these results are given.     

Modular Equations for the Rogers-Ramanujan Continued Fraction and the Dedekind Eta-Function

S. Ramanujan recorded five beautiful identities providing relations between the Rogers-Ramanujan continued fraction R(q) and the five continued fractions R(–q), R(q ²), R(q ³), R(q ⁴), and R(q ⁵), summarized on page 365 of his Lost Notebook. We give new proofs for two of them by using new eta-function identities, and we also present a new relation between R(q) and R(q ⁷).
