A new sufficient condition for Hamiltonian graphs   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
The study of Hamiltonian graphs began with Dirac’s classic result in 1952. This was followed by that of Ore in 1960. In 1984 Fan generalized both these results with the following result: If G is a 2-connected graph of order n and max{d(u),d(v)}≥n/2 for each pair of vertices u and v with distance d(u,v)=2, then G is Hamiltonian. In 1991 Faudree–Gould–Jacobson–Lesnick proved that if G is a 2-connected graph and |N(u)∪N(v)|+δ(G)≥n for each pair of nonadjacent vertices u,vV(G), then G is Hamiltonian. This paper generalizes the above results when G is 3-connected. We show that if G is a 3-connected graph of order n and max{|N(x)∪N(y)|+d(u),|N(w)∪N(z)|+d(v)}≥n for every choice of vertices x,y,u,w,z,v such that d(x,y)=d(y,u)=d(w,z)=d(z,v)=d(u,v)=2 and where x,y and u are three distinct vertices and w,z and v are also three distinct vertices (and possibly |{x,y}∩{w,z}| is 1 or 2), then G is Hamiltonian.  相似文献

An arc of a graph is an oriented edge and a 3-arc is a 4-tuple (v,u,x,y) of vertices such that both (v,u,x) and (u,x,y) are paths of length two. The 3-arc graph of a given graph G, X(G), is defined to have vertices the arcs of G. Two arcs uv,xy are adjacent in X(G) if and only if (v,u,x,y) is a 3-arc of G. This notion was introduced in recent studies of arc-transitive graphs. In this paper we study diameter and connectivity of 3-arc graphs. In particular, we obtain sharp bounds for the diameter and connectivity of X(G) in terms of the corresponding invariant of G.  相似文献

A (finite or infinite) graph G is constructible if there exists a well‐ordering ≤ of its vertices such that for every vertex x which is not the smallest element, there is a vertex y < x which is adjacent to x and to every neighbor z of x with z < x. Particular constructible graphs are Helly graphs and connected bridged graphs. In this paper we study a new class of constructible graphs, the class of locally Helly graphs. A graph G is locally Helly if, for every pair (x,y) of vertices of G whose distance is d2, there exists a vertex whose distance to x is d ? 1 and which is adjacent to y and to all neighbors of y whose distance to x is at most d. Helly graphs are locally Helly, and the converse holds for finite graphs. Among different properties we prove that a locally Helly graph is strongly dismantable, hence cop‐win, if and only if it contains no isometric rays. We show that a locally Helly graph G is finitely Helly, that is, every finite family of pairwise non‐disjoint balls of G has a non‐empty intersection. We give a sufficient condition by forbidden subgraphs so that the three concepts of Helly graphs, of locally Helly graphs and of finitely Helly graphs are equivalent. Finally, generalizing different results, in particular those of Bandelt and Chepoi 1 about Helly graphs and bridged graphs, we prove that the Helly number h(G) of the geodesic convexity in a constructible graph G is equal to its clique number ω(G), provided that ω(G) is finite. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The average distance μ(G) of a connected graph G of order n is the average of the distances between all pairs of vertices of G, i.e., μ(G) = ()−1 Σ{x,y}⊂V(G) dG(x, y), where V(G) denotes the vertex set of G and dG(x, y) is the distance between x and y. We prove that every connected graph of order n and minimum degree δ has a spanning tree T with average distance at most . A graph Γ is distance-transitive if for all vertices u, v, x, y such that d(u, v) = d(x, y) there is an automorphism h of Γ such that uh = x, vh = y. We show how to find a bound for the diameter of a bipartite distance-transitive graph given a bound for the order |Gα| of the stabilizer of a vertex.  相似文献

A graph is called subpancyclic if it contains a cycle of length ? for each ? between 3 and the circumference of the graph. We show that if G is a connected graph on n?146 vertices such that d(u)+d(v)+d(x)+d(y)>(n+10/2) for all four vertices u,v,x,y of any path P=uvxy in G, then the line graph L(G) is subpancyclic, unless G is isomorphic to an exceptional graph. Moreover, we show that this result is best possible, even under the assumption that L(G) is hamiltonian. This improves earlier sufficient conditions by a multiplicative factor rather than an additive constant.  相似文献

A Fan Type Condition For Heavy Cycles in Weighted Graphs   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2  
 A weighted graph is a graph in which each edge e is assigned a non-negative number w(e), called the weight of e. The weight of a cycle is the sum of the weights of its edges. The weighted degree d w (v) of a vertex v is the sum of the weights of the edges incident with v. In this paper, we prove the following result: Suppose G is a 2-connected weighted graph which satisfies the following conditions: 1. max{d w (x),d w (y)∣d(x,y)=2}≥c/2; 2. w(x z)=w(y z) for every vertex zN(x)∩N(y) with d(x,y)=2; 3. In every triangle T of G, either all edges of T have different weights or all edges of T have the same weight. Then G contains either a Hamilton cycle or a cycle of weight at least c. This generalizes a theorem of Fan on the existence of long cycles in unweighted graphs to weighted graphs. We also show we cannot omit Condition 2 or 3 in the above result. Let G be a graph. For u,vV(G) with distG(u,v)=2, denote JG(u,v)={wNG(u)∩NG(v)|NG(w)NG(u)NG(v){u,v}}. A graph G is called quasi claw-free if JG(u,v)≠ for any u,vV(G) with distG(u,v)=2. In 1986, Thomassen conjectured that every 4-connected line graph is hamiltonian. In this paper we show that every 4-connected line graph of a quasi claw-free graph is hamiltonian connected.  相似文献

The following question was raised by Bruce Richter. Let G be a planar, 3‐connected graph that is not a complete graph. Denoting by d(v) the degree of vertex v, is G L‐list colorable for every list assignment L with |L(v)| = min{d(v), 6} for all vV(G)? More generally, we ask for which pairs (r, k) the following question has an affirmative answer. Let r and k be the integers and let G be a K5‐minor‐free r‐connected graph that is not a Gallai tree (i.e. at least one block of G is neither a complete graph nor an odd cycle). Is G L‐list colorable for every list assignment L with |L(v)| = min{d(v), k} for all vV(G)? We investigate this question by considering the components of G[Sk], where Sk: = {vV(G)|d(v)8k} is the set of vertices with small degree in G. A geodesic in a graph G is a shortest path between two vertices of G. For a specific function e(n) of n, we define an almost geodesic cycle C in G to be a cycle in which for every two vertices u and v in C, the distance dG(u, v) is at least dC(u, v)?e(n). Let ω(n) be any function tending to infinity with n. We consider a random d‐regular graph on n vertices. We show that almost all pairs of vertices belong to an almost geodesic cycle C with e(n) = logd?1logd?1n+ ω(n) and |C| = 2logd?1n+ O(ω(n)). Along the way, we obtain results on near‐geodesic paths. An arc of a graph is an oriented edge and a 3-arc is a 4-tuple (v,u,x,y) of vertices such that both (v,u,x) and (u,x,y) are paths of length two. The 3-arc graph of a graph G is defined to have the arcs of G as vertices such that two arcs uv,xy are adjacent if and only if (v,u,x,y) is a 3-arc of G. In this paper, we study the independence, domination and chromatic numbers of 3-arc graphs and obtain sharp lower and upper bounds for them. A graph is called a weighted graph when each edge e is assigned a nonnegative number w(e), called the weight of e. For a vertex v of a weighted graph, dw(v) is the sum of the weights of the edges incident with v. For a subgraph H of a weighted graph G, the weight of H is the sum of the weights of the edges belonging to H. In this paper, we give a new sufficient condition for a weighted graph to have a heavy cycle. A 2-connected weighted graph G contains either a Hamilton cycle or a cycle of weight at least c, if G satisfies the following conditions: In every induced claw or induced modified claw F of G, (1) max{dw(x),dw(y)} c/2 for each non-adjacent pair of vertices x and y in F, and (2) all edges of F have the same weight.  相似文献

If G is a connected graph with distance function d, then by a step in G is meant an ordered triple (u, x, v) of vertices of G such that d(u, x) = 1 and d(u, v) = d(x, v) + 1. A characterization of the set of all steps in a connected graph was published by the present author in 1997. In Section 1 of this paper, a new and shorter proof of that characterization is presented. Let G be a connected graph and SV(G). Then the Steiner distance of S, denoted by dG(S), is the smallest number of edges in a connected subgraph of G containing S. Such a subgraph is necessarily a tree called a Steiner tree for S. The Steiner interval for a set S of vertices in a graph, denoted by I(S) is the union of all vertices that belong to some Steiner tree for S. If S={u,v}, then I(S) is the interval I[u,v] between u and v. A connected graph G is 3-Steiner distance hereditary (3-SDH) if, for every connected induced subgraph H of order at least 3 and every set S of three vertices of H, dH(S)=dG(S). The eccentricity of a vertex v in a connected graph G is defined as e(v)=max{d(v,x)|xV(G)}. A vertex v in a graph G is a contour vertex if for every vertex u adjacent with v, e(u)?e(v). The closure of a set S of vertices, denoted by I[S], is defined to be the union of intervals between pairs of vertices of S taken over all pairs of vertices in S. A set of vertices of a graph G is a geodetic set if its closure is the vertex set of G. The smallest cardinality of a geodetic set of G is called the geodetic number of G and is denoted by g(G). A set S of vertices of a connected graph G is a Steiner geodetic set for G if I(S)=V(G). The smallest cardinality of a Steiner geodetic set of G is called the Steiner geodetic number of G and is denoted by sg(G). We show that the contour vertices of 3-SDH and HHD-free graphs are geodetic sets. For 3-SDH graphs we also show that g(G)?sg(G). An efficient algorithm for finding Steiner intervals in 3-SDH graphs is developed.  相似文献

Let G be a graph of order n and k ≥ 0 an integer. It is conjectured in [8] that if for any two vertices u and v of a 2(k + 1)‐connected graph G,d G (u,v) = 2 implies that max{d(u;G), d(v;G)} ≥ (n/2) + 2k, then G has k + 1 edge disjoint Hamilton cycles. Let G=(V1,V2;E) be a bipartite graph with |V1|=|V2|=3k, where k>0. In this paper it is proved that if d(x)+d(y)≥4k−1 for every pair of nonadjacent vertices xV1, yV2, then G contains k−1 independent cycles of order 6 and a path of order 6 such that all of them are independent. Furthermore, if d(x)+d(y)≥4k for every pair of nonadjacent vertices xV1, yV2 and k>2, then G contains k−2 independent cycles of order 6 and a cycle of order 12 such that all of them are independent.  相似文献
