We consider the third‐order wide‐angle “parabolic” equation of underwater acoustics in a cylindrically symmetric fluid medium over a bottom of range‐dependent bathymetry. It is known that the initial‐boundary‐value problem for this equation may not be well posed in the case of (smooth) bottom profiles of arbitrary shape, if it is just posed e.g. with a homogeneous Dirichlet bottom boundary condition. In this article, we concentrate on downsloping bottom profiles and propose an additional boundary condition that yields a well‐posed problem, in fact making it L2 ‐conservative in the case of appropriate real parameters. We solve the problem numerically by a Crank–Nicolson‐type finite difference scheme, which is proved to be unconditionally stable and second‐order accurate and simulates accurately realistic underwater acoustic problems. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. We consider the third‐order Claerbout‐type wide‐angle parabolic equation (PE) of underwater acoustics in a cylindrically symmetric medium consisting of water over a soft bottom B of range‐dependent topography. There is strong indication that the initial‐boundary value problem for this equation with just a homogeneous Dirichlet boundary condition posed on B may not be well‐posed, for example when B is downsloping. We impose, in addition to the above, another homogeneous, second‐order boundary condition, derived by assuming that the standard (narrow‐angle) PE holds on B, and establish a priori H2 estimates for the solution of the resulting initial‐boundary value problem for any bottom topography. After a change of the depth variable that makes B horizontal, we discretize the transformed problem by a second‐order accurate finite difference scheme and show, in the case of upsloping and downsloping wedge‐type domains, that the new model gives stable and accurate results. We also present an alternative set of boundary conditions that make the problem exactly energy conserving; one of these conditions may be viewed as a generalization of the Abrahamsson–Kreiss boundary condition in the wide‐angle case. In this paper, we establish the exponential stability of the global spherically and cylindrically symmetric solutions in H^i (i=1,2,4) for the p-th power Newtonian fluid in multi-dimension with large initial data. The key point is that the smallness of initial data is not needed if the initial data are cylindrically symmetric.  相似文献

This paper is concerned with the free boundary value problem (FBVP) for the cylindrically symmetric barotropic compressible Navier-Stokes equations (CNS) with density-dependent viscosity coefficients in the case that across the free surface stress tensor is balanced by a constant exterior pressure. Under certain assumptions imposed on the initial data, the unique cylindrically symmetric strong solution is shown to exist globally in time and tend to a non-vacuum equilibrium state exponentially as time tends to infinity.  相似文献

Under certain circumstances, solutions of the cylindrically symmetric nonlinear Schrödinger equation collapse to a singularity in a finite time. An asymptotic series for the solution near the singularity is derived here. At leading order, the central amplitude of the spike grows like[(log Δt)/Δt]1/2, where Δt is the time remaining to the appearance of the singularity.  相似文献

An n×n real matrix P is said to be a symmetric orthogonal matrix if P = P?1 = PT. An n × n real matrix Y is called a generalized centro‐symmetric with respect to P, if Y = PYP. It is obvious that every matrix is also a generalized centro‐symmetric matrix with respect to I. In this work by extending the conjugate gradient approach, two iterative methods are proposed for solving the linear matrix equation and the minimum Frobenius norm residual problem over the generalized centro‐symmetric Y, respectively. By the first (second) algorithm for any initial generalized centro‐symmetric matrix, a generalized centro‐symmetric solution (least squares generalized centro‐symmetric solution) can be obtained within a finite number of iterations in the absence of round‐off errors, and the least Frobenius norm generalized centro‐symmetric solution (the minimal Frobenius norm least squares generalized centro‐symmetric solution) can be derived by choosing a special kind of initial generalized centro‐symmetric matrices. We also obtain the optimal approximation generalized centro‐symmetric solution to a given generalized centro‐symmetric matrix Y0 in the solution set of the matrix equation (minimum Frobenius norm residual problem). Finally, some numerical examples are presented to support the theoretical results of this paper. Copyright © 2011 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

Summary The solution of the multigroupP 3-equations by Bessel-functions leads to difficulties as the number of particular integrals is gradually increasing. This paper treats the central zone of a cylindrically symmetric problem inP 3-approximation using Taylor-series. The recursive relations are developed in order to calculate numerically the coefficients of the series.  相似文献

A collisionless plasma is modelled by the Vlasov–Maxwell system. In the presence of very large velocities, relativistic corrections are meaningful. When magnetic effects are ignored this formally becomes the relativistic Vlasov–Poisson equation. The initial datum for the phase space density ƒ0(x, v) is assumed to be sufficiently smooth, non‐negative and cylindrically symmetric. If the (two‐dimensional) angular momentum is bounded away from zero on the support of ƒ0(x, v), it is shown that a smooth solution to the Cauchy problem exists for all times. We construct global solutions to the Euler equations of compressible isentropic gas dynamics with cylindrically symmetric rotating structure. A shock capturing numerical scheme is introduced to compute such a flow and to construct approximate solutions. The convergence and consistency of the approximate solutions generated from this scheme to the global solutions are proved with the aid of a compensated compactness framework. Earlier work of the authors, which controlled the geometrical source terms, especially as they pertain to radial flow in an unbounded region, 1, is extended here to the 3 × 3 system of cylindrically symmetric rotating flow. Arbitrary data withL bounds are allowed in these results.  相似文献

We are concerned with 3-D incompressible Navier-Stokes equations when the initial data and the domain are cylindrically symmetric. We show that there exists a solution in a weighted space and certain weighted norms of vorticity of the solution remain finite if they are finite initially. Consequently, we can estimate the growth rate of the solution both spatially and temporally.  相似文献

We consider the linear stability problem for a 3D cylindrically symmetric equilibrium of the relativistic Vlasov–Maxwell system that describes a collisionless plasma. For an equilibrium whose distribution function decreases monotonically with the particle energy, we obtained a linear stability criterion in our previous paper [24]. Here we prove that this criterion is sharp; that is, there would otherwise be an exponentially growing solution to the linearized system. We also treat the considerably simpler periodic D case. The new formulation introduced here is applicable as well to the non-relativistic case, to other symmetries, and to general equilibria.  相似文献

In this paper, we consider one‐dimensional compressible viscous and heat‐conducting micropolar fluid, being in a thermodynamical sense perfect and polytropic. The homogenous boundary conditions for velocity, microrotation, and temperature are introduced. This problem has a global solution with a priori estimates independent of time; with the help of this result, we first prove the exponential stability of solution in (H1(0,1))4, and then we establish the global existence and exponential stability of solutions in (H2(0,1))4 under the suitable assumptions for initial data. The results in this paper improve those previously related results. Copyright © 2015 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

In this paper, we investigate the free boundary value problem(FBVP) for the cylindrically symmetric isentropic compressible Navier-Stokes equations(CNS) with densitydependent viscosity coefficients in the case that across the free surface stress tensor is balanced by a constant exterior pressure. Under certain assumptions imposed on the initial data, we prove that there exists a unique global strong solution which tends pointwise to a non-vacuum equilibrium state at an exponential time-rate as the time tends to infinity.  相似文献

We study the dynamics of an incompressible, homogeneous fluid of a power‐law type, with the stress tensor T = ν(1 + µ|Dv|)p?2Dv, where Dv is a symmetric velocity gradient. We consider the two‐dimensional problem with periodic boundary conditions and p ∈ (1, 2). Under these assumptions, we estimate the fractal dimension of the exponential attractor, using the so‐called method of ??‐trajectories. Copyright © 2007 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

This article first recalls the results of a stabilized finite element method based on a local Gauss integration method for the stationary Stokes equations approximated by low equal‐order elements that do not satisfy the inf‐sup condition. Then, we derive general superconvergence results for this stabilized method by using a local coarse mesh L2 projection. These supervergence results have three prominent features. First, they are based on a multiscale method defined for any quasi‐uniform mesh. Second, they are derived on the basis of a large sparse, symmetric positive‐definite system of linear equations for the solution of the stationary Stokes problem. Third, the finite elements used fail to satisfy the inf‐sup condition. This article combines the merits of the new stabilized method with that of the L2 projection method. This projection method is of practical importance in scientific computation. Finally, a series of numerical experiments are presented to check the theoretical results obtained.

A miscible displacement of one compressible fluid by another in a porous medium is governed by a nonlinear parabolic system. A new mixed finite element method, in which the mixed element system is symmetric positive definite and the flux equation is separated from pressure equation, is introduced to solve the pressure equation of parabolic type, and a standard Galerkin method is used to treat the convection‐diffusion equation of concentration of one of the fluids. The convergence of the approximate solution with an optimal accuracy in L2‐norm is proved. © 2001 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Numer Methods Partial Differential Eq 17: 229–249, 2001  相似文献

We present Noether symmetries of a geodetic Lagrangian for a time-conformal cylindrically symmetric space–time. We introduce a time-conformal factor in the general cylindrically symmetric space–time to make it nonstatic and then find approximate Noether symmetries of the action of the corresponding Lagrangian. Taking the perturbation up to the first order, we find all Lagrangians for cylindrically symmetric space–times for which approximate Noether symmetries exist.  相似文献

We study the unsteady rotary motion of a sphere immersed in a Stokes fluid. The equation of motion for the sphere leads to an integro-differential equation, and we are interested in the asymptotic behavior in time of the solution. Preparing initially the system (sphere + fluid) as a stationary state, we prove that the angular velocity of the sphere slows down with a law t −3/2 if no other forces than the one exerted by the fluid act on the sphere, while if the sphere is subject also to an elastic torque the asymptotic behavior of the angular position of the sphere is t γ , with γ = 5/2 if the initial angular velocity is zero, γ = 3/2 otherwise. This behavior is due to the memory effect of the surrounding fluid. We discuss briefly other initial preparations of the system.  相似文献
