In this paper, HFEM is proposed to investigate the circular arch problem. Optimal error estimates are derived, some superconvergence results are established, and an asymptotic exactness posteriori error estimator is presented. In contrast with the classical displacement variational method, the optimal convergence rate for displacement is uniform to the small parameter. In contrast with classical mixed finite element methods, our results are free of the strict restriction on h(the mesh size) which is preserved by all the previous papers. Furtheremore we introduce an asymptotic exactness posteriori error estimator based on a global superconvergence result which is discovered in this kind of problem for the first time.  相似文献

In this paper, we focus on a local superconvergence analysis of the finite element method for the Stokes equations by local projections. The local and global superconvergence results of finite element solutions are provided for the Stokes problem under some corresponding regularity assumptions. Conclusion can be drawn that the local superconvergence has advantages over the global superconvergence in two important aspects. On the one hand, it offsets theoretical limitation in practical applications. On the other hand, interior estimates are derived on the base of local properties of the domain without global smoothness for the exact solution and prior regularity of the problem globally over the whole domain.  相似文献

In this work we derive and analyze a posteriori error estimators for low-order nonconforming finite element methods of the linear elasticity problem on both triangular and quadrilateral meshes, with hanging nodes allowed for local mesh refinement. First, it is shown that equilibrated Neumann data on interelement boundaries are simply given by the local weak residuals of the numerical solution. The first error estimator is then obtained by applying the equilibrated residual method with this set of Neumann data. From this implicit estimator we also derive two explicit error estimators, one of which is similar to the one proposed by Dörfler and Ainsworth (2005) [24] for the Stokes problem. It is established that all these error estimators are reliable and efficient in a robust way with respect to the Lamé constants. The main advantage of our error estimators is that they yield guaranteed, i.e., constant-free upper bounds for the energy-like error (up to higher order terms due to data oscillation) when a good estimate for the inf-sup constant is available, which is confirmed by some numerical results.  相似文献

This paper presents a superconvergence result of the stationary natural convection equations. The superconvergence result is obtained by applying a coarse mesh projection for finite element approximation. This projection method is actually a postprocessing procedure that constructs a new approximation based on a high order polynomial on coarse mesh, under some regularity assumption. Finally, numerical experiment is presented for testing, which confirms the theoretic analysis. Copyright © 2015 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

The main goal of this paper is to present recovery type a posteriori error estimators and superconvergence for the nonconforming finite element eigenvalue approximation of self-adjoint elliptic equations by projection methods. Based on the superconvergence results of nonconforming finite element for the eigenfunction we derive superconvergence and recovery type a posteriori error estimates of the eigenvalue. The results are based on some regularity assumption for the elliptic problem and are applicable to the lowest order nonconforming finite element approximations of self-adjoint elliptic eigenvalue problems with quasi-regular partitions. Therefore, the results of this paper can be employed to provide useful a posteriori error estimators in practical computing under unstructured meshes.  相似文献

In this paper, we derive recovery type superconvergence analysis and a posteriori error estimates for the finite element approximation of the distributed optimal control governed by Stokes equations. We obtain superconvergence results and asymptotically exact a posteriori error estimates by applying two recovery methods, which are the patch recovery technique and the least-squares surface fitting method. Our results are based on some regularity assumption for the Stokes control problems and are applicable to the first order conforming finite element method with regular but nonuniform partitions.  相似文献

In this paper, we investigate the superconvergence property of the numerical solution of a quadratic convex optimal control problem by using rectangular mixed finite element methods. The state and co-state variables are approximated by the lowest order Raviart-Thomas mixed finite element spaces and the control variable is approximated by piecewise constant functions. Some realistic regularity assumptions are presented and applied to error estimation by using an operator interpolation technique. We derive superconvergence properties for the flux functions along the Gauss lines and for the scalar functions at the Gauss points via mixed projections. Moreover, global superconvergence results are obtained by virtue of an interpolation postprocessing technique. Thus, based on these superconvergence estimates, some asymptotic exactness a posteriori error estimators are presented for the mixed finite element methods. Finally, some numerical examples are given to demonstrate the practical side of the theoretical results about superconvergence.

Summary In the paper we develop a structured approach to thea posteriori estimation of the error in the approximation obtained via the finite element method. This aids the classification of existing estimators as well as allowing new estimators to be proposed for new situations. A class of abstract estimators for finite elements of orderp>1 in ,n=2, 3 based on exploiting the superconvergence phenomenon are analyzed.  相似文献

In this paper, we discuss the error estimation of the linear finite element solution on criss-cross mesh. Using space orthogonal decomposition techniques, we obtain an asymptotic expansion and superconvergence results of the finite element solution. We first prove that the asymptotic expansion has different forms on the two kinds of nodes and then derive a high accuracy combination formula of the approximate derivatives.  相似文献

The use of dual/adjoint problems for approximating functionals of solutions of PDEs with great accuracy or to merely drive a goal-oriented adaptive refinement scheme has become well-accepted, and it continues to be an active area of research. The traditional approach involves dual residual weighting (DRW). In this work we present two new functional error estimators and give conditions under which we can expect them to be asymptotically exact. The first is of DRW type and is derived for meshes in which most triangles satisfy an -approximate parallelogram property. The second functional estimator involves dual error estimate weighting (DEW) using any superconvergent gradient recovery technique for the primal and dual solutions. Several experiments are done which demonstrate the asymptotic exactness of a DEW estimator which uses a gradient recovery scheme proposed by Bank and Xu, and the effectiveness of refinement done with respect to the corresponding local error indicators. This paper deals with a posteriori error estimates for advection–reaction–diffusion equations. In particular, error estimators based on the solution of local problems are derived for a stabilized finite element method. These estimators are proved to be equivalent to the error, with equivalence constants eventually depending on the physical parameters. Numerical experiments illustrating the performance of this approach are reported.  相似文献

In this paper we consider the finite element approximation of the Stokes eigenvalue problems based on projection method, and derive some superconvergence results and the related recovery type a posteriori error estimators. The projection method is a postprocessing procedure that constructs a new approximation by using the least squares strategy. The results are based on some regularity assumptions for the Stokes equations, and are applicable to the finite element approximations of the Stokes eigenvalue problems with general quasi-regular partitions. Numerical results are presented to verify the superconvergence results and the efficiency of the recovery type a posteriori error estimators.  相似文献

In this article a strategy of adaptive finite element for semi-linear problems, based on minimizing a residual-type estimator, is reported. We get an a posteriori error estimate which is asymptotically exact when the mesh size h tends to zero. By considering a model problem, the quality of this estimator is checked. It is numerically shown that without constraint on the mesh size h, the efficiency of the a posteriori error estimate can fail dramatically. This phenomenon is analysed and an algorithm which equidistributes the local estimators under the constraint h ⩽ h max is proposed. This algorithm allows to improve the computed solution for semi-linear convection–diffusion problems, and can be used for stabilizing the Lagrange finite element method for linear convection–diffusion problems. This revised version was published online in June 2006 with corrections to the Cover Date.  相似文献

Summary In this first of two papers, computable a posteriori estimates of the space discretization error in the finite element method of lines solution of parabolic equations are analyzed for time-independent space meshes. The effectiveness of the error estimator is related to conditions on the solution regularity, mesh family type, and asymptotic range for the mesh size. For clarity the results are limited to a model problem in which piecewise linear elements in one space dimension are used. The results extend straight-forwardly to systems of equations and higher order elements in one space dimension, while the higher dimensional case requires additional considerations. The theory presented here provides the basis for the analysis and adaptive construction of time-dependent space meshes, which is the subject of the second paper. Computational results show that the approach is practically very effective and suggest that it can be used for solving more general problems. The work was partially supported by ONR Contract N00014-77-C-0623  相似文献

In this article, we study superconvergence properties of immersed finite element methods for the one dimensional elliptic interface problem. Due to low global regularity of the solution, classical superconvergence phenomenon for finite element methods disappears unless the discontinuity of the coefficient is resolved by partition. We show that immersed finite element solutions inherit all desired superconvergence properties from standard finite element methods without requiring the mesh to be aligned with the interface. In particular, on interface elements, superconvergence occurs at roots of generalized orthogonal polynomials that satisfy both orthogonality and interface jump conditions.  相似文献

Summary. The element residual method for a posteriori error estimation is analyzed for degree finite element approximation on quadrilateral elements. The influence of the choice of subspace used to solve the element residual problem is studied. It is shown that the resulting estimators will be consistent (or asymptotically exact) for all if and only if the mesh is parallel. Moreover, even if the mesh consists of rectangles, then the estimators can be inconsistent when . The results provide concrete guidelines for the selection of a posteriori error estimators and establish the limits of their performance. In particular, the use of the element residual method for high orders of approximation (such as those arising in the - version finite element method) is vindicated. The mechanism behind the rather poor performance of the estimators is traced back to the basic formulation of the residual problem. The investigations reveal a deficiency in the formulation, leading, as it does, to spurious modes in the true solution of the residual problem. The recommended choice of subspaces may be viewed as being sufficient to guarantee that the spurious modes are filtered out from the approximate solution while at the same time retaining a sufficient degree of approximation to represent the true modes. A general construction technique is presented for a posteriori error estimators of finite element solutions of elliptic boundary value problems that satisfy a Gång inequality. The estimators are obtained by an element–by–element solution of ‘weak residual’ with or without considering element boundary residuals. There is no order restriction on the finite element spaces used for the approximate solution or the error estimation; that is, the design of the estimators is applicable in connection with either one of the hp–, or hp– formulations of the finite element method. Under suitable assumptions it is shown that the estimators are bounded by constant multiples of the true error in a suitable norm. Some numerical results are given to demonstrate the effectiveness and efficiency of the approach.  相似文献

In this paper, we consider the superconvergence of a mixed covolume method on the quasi-uniform triangular grids for the variable coefficient-matrix Poisson equations. The superconvergence estimates between the solution of the mixed covolume method and that of the mixed finite element method have been obtained. With these superconvergence estimates, we establish the superconvergence estimates and the LL-error estimates for the mixed covolume method for the elliptic problems. Based on the superconvergence of the mixed covolume method, under the condition that the triangulation is uniform, we construct a post-processing method for the approximate velocity which improves the order of approximation of the approximate velocity.  相似文献
