There are described the subgroups of the general symplectic group =GSp(2n, R) over a commutative semilocal ring R, containing the group of symplectic diagonal matrices. For each such subgroup P there is uniquely defined a symplectic D-net a such that ()pN(), where () is the net subgroup in corresponding to (cf. RZhMat, 1977, 5A288), and N() is its normalizer. The quotient group N × ()/() is calculated. There are also considered subgroups in Sp(2n, R). Analogous results for subgroups of the general linear group were obtained earlier in RZhMat, 1978, 9A237.Translated from Zapiski Nauchnykh Seminarov Leningradskogo Otdeleniya Matematicheskogo Instituta im. Let denote a bipartite distance-regular graph with diameter D 3 and valency k 3. Suppose 0, 1, ..., D is a Q-polynomial ordering of the eigenvalues of . This sequence is known to satisfy the recurrence i – 1 i + i + 1 = 0 (0 > i > D), for some real scalar . Let q denote a complex scalar such that q + q –1 = . Bannai and Ito have conjectured that q is real if the diameter D is sufficiently large. We settle this conjecture in the bipartite case by showing that q is real if the diameter D 4. Moreover, if D = 3, then q is not real if and only if 1 is the second largest eigenvalue and the pair (, k) is one of the following: (1, 3), (1, 4), (1, 5), (1, 6), (2, 4), or (2, 5). We observe that each of these pairs has a unique realization by a known bipartite distance-regular graph of diameter 3.  相似文献

The 2×2 system of integral equations corresponding to the biharmonic single layer potential in 2 is known to be strongly elliptic. It is also known to be positive definite on a space of functions orthogonal to polynomials of degree one. We study the question of its unique solvability without this orthogonality condition. To each curve , we associate a 4×4 matrixB such that this problem for the family of all curves obtained from by scale transformations is equivalent to the eigenvalue problem forB . We present numerical approximations for this eigenvalue problem for several classes of curves.  相似文献

We give a partial positive answer to a problem posed by Coifman et al. in [1]. Indeed, starting from the transfer function m0 arising from the Meyer wavelet and assuming m0=1 only on [–/3, /3], we provide an example of pairwise disjoint dyadic intervals of the form I(n, q)=[2qn, 2q(n+1)), (n, q)EN×Z, which cover [0, +) except for a set A of Hausdorff dimension equal to 1/2, and such that the corresponding wavelet packets 2q/2wn (2qx–k), kZ, (n, q)EN×Z form an orthonormal basis of L2(R).  相似文献

In this paper we show that the existence of plane partitions, which are minimal in a sense to be defined, yields minimal irreducible summands in the Kronecker product of two irreducible characters of the symmetric group S(n). The minimality of the summands refers to the dominance order of partitions of n. The multiplicity of a minimal summand equals the number of pairs of Littlewood-Richardson multitableaux of shape (, ), conjugate content and type . We also give lower and upper bounds for these numbers.  相似文献

For an integer n3 and any positive number , we establish the existence of smooth functions K on n {0} with |K–1|, such that the equation has a smooth positive solution which blows up at the origin (i.e., u does not have slow decay near the origin). Furthermore, we show that in some situations K can be extended as a Lipschitz function on n . These provide counter-examples to a conjecture of C.-S. Lin when n>4, and a question of Taliaferro. We give a new proof of the well-known Bernshtein statement that, among entire functions of degree which realize the best uniform approximation (of degree ) of a periodic function on (–,), there is a trigonometric polynomial of degree . We prove an analog of the mentioned Bernshtein statement and the Jackson theorem for uniform almost periodic functions with arbitrary spectrum.Translated from Ukrainskii Matematicheskii Zhurnal, Vol. 47, No. 9, pp. 1274–1279, September, 1995.  相似文献

Let V be a vector space over the commutative field K such that char K 2 2 dim V , and let Q:V K be a quadratic form of rank 2. The pair (A(V,K),Q), consisting of the affine space A(V,K) and the congruence relation Q, defined by (a,b)Q (c,d) Q(a–b) = Q(c–d) (a,b),(c,d) V×V, is called an affine-metric fano-space of rank 2. In this paper, such spaces are characterized by three simple geometrical properties.  相似文献

Summary LetG be a separable locally compact group with dual space. consists of all equivalence classes of irreducible unitary representations ofG, and is endowed with the Fell-topology. We study the topological properties in of the square-integrable representations ofG. [ is square-integrable provided there is a coordinate functiong((g)v, v),gG, for which is inL 2(G) w.r.t. left Haar measure onG.]SupposeG contains an open normal subgroupN of the formeKN n e whereK is compact. (All groups with a compact invariant neighborhood of the identity, [IN] groups, satisfy this condition.) In this case we show that if is square-integrable then {} is an open point of.Finally, our techniques are used to prove this result for arbitrary (non connected) nilpotent Lie groups.  相似文献

Summary. We consider the Uzawa method to solve the stationary Stokes equations discretized with stable finite elements. An iteration step consists of a velocity update un+1 involving the (augmented Lagrangian) operator –÷ with 0, followed by the pressure update pn+1=pndiv un+1, the so-called Richardson update. We prove that the inf-sup constant satisfies 1 and that, if =1+–1, the iteration converges linearly with a contraction factor 2-1(2-) provided 0<<2. This yields the optimal value = regardless of .Mathematics Subject Classification (1991): 65N12, 65N15Partially supported by NSF Grant DMS-9971450Partially supported by NSF Grants DMS-9971450 and DMS-0204670Revised version received September 30, 2003  相似文献

There is a natural duality between orbits of a real form G of a complex semisimple group G on a homogeneous rational manifold Z=G /P and those of the complexification K of any of its maximal compact subgroups K: (,) is a dual pair if is a K-orbit. The cycle space C() is defined to be the connected component containing the identity of the interior of {g:g() is non-empty and compact}. Using methods which were recently developed for the case of open G-orbits, geometric properties of cycles are proved, and it is shown that C() is contained in a domain defined by incidence geometry. In the non-Hermitian case this is a key ingredient for proving that C() is a certain explicitly computable universal domain.Research of the first author partially supported by Schwerpunkt Global methods in complex geometry and SFB-237 of the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft. The second author was supported by a stipend of the Deutsche Akademische Austauschdienst.  相似文献

Given a sequence of independent random variables with densityf we estimate quantities of the form = (f(x))dx, a known function, by inserting histograms and kernel density estimators for the unknownf. We obtain conditions for consistency and asymptotic normality and discuss the choice of cell size and bandwidth.  相似文献

Let a ={nlna (n+1)}, where a R. The following results are established: For every &fnof a BV ((- ]2), the triangular partial sums of its Fourier series are uniformly bounded if a = -1, and converge everywhere if a < -1.For every a>0, there exists &fnof a BV ((- ]2) such that the triangular partial sums of its Fourier series are unbounded at the point (0;0).  相似文献

Martingale transforms and Hardy spaces   总被引:9,自引:0,他引:9
Summary Burkholder's martingale transforms are especially useful in studying predictable martingale Hardy spaces. Characterizations of such spaces via martingale transforms are provided. In particular, it is shown that for 0<p<, a martingale inh p , defined by the conditioned square function, is the martingale transform of a bmo2 martingale with a multiplier sequence whose maximal function is inL p .  相似文献

Let be a locally compact second countable group, F a local field of characteristic zero and G an F-almost-simple F-algebraic group. In this paper we study the space X(,G) of Zariski-dense representations : G = G(F) using the natural morphism of cohomological functors * : H*(G, ·) H*(, ·) (where H denotes the continuous cohomology).First let F be a p-adic field. We completely describe the relations between the geometry and the cohomology of G : using geometric properties of the Bruhat-Tits building of G we construct natural cocycles for any irreducible cohomological representation of G. We then adapt these results to the case where the field F is archimedean.Using these cocycles we obtain a simple cohomological characterization of representations with bounded image. Our main result is then the construction, using the previous cocycles and dynamical properties at infinity of , of cohomological invariants (called volumes) on the space X(,G). These volumes describe how the image () goes to infinity in G. They have coefficients in the natural universal infinite-dimensional representation L(, )$\mathbb{C}$ of .In the case where is a cocompact lattice of SO(n, 1) or SU(n, 1), we use these volumes to produce new non-trivial numerical invariants on X(,G), which refine previously known invariants.

We construct the CR invariant canonical contact form can(J) on scalar positive spherical CR manifold (M,J), which is the CR analogue of canonical metric on locally conformally flat manifold constructed by Habermann and Jost. We also construct another canonical contact form on the Kleinian manifold ()/, where is a convex cocompact subgroup of AutCRS2n+1=PU(n+1,1) and () is the discontinuity domain of . This contact form can be used to prove that ()/ is scalar positive (respectively, scalar negative, or scalar vanishing) if and only if the critical exponent ()<n (respectively, ()>n, or ()=n). This generalizes Nayatanis result for convex cocompact subgroups of SO(n+1,1). We also discuss the connected sum of spherical CR manifolds.  相似文献
