The unsteady magnetohydrodynamic viscous flow and heat transfer of Newtonian fluids induced by an impulsively stretched plane surface in two lateral directions are studied by using an analytic technique, namely, the homotopy method. The analytic series solution presented here is highly accurate and uniformly valid for all time in the entire region. The effects of the stretching ratio and the magnetic field on the surface shear stresses and heat transfer are studied. The surface shear stresses in x- and y-directions and the surface heat transfer are enchanced by increasing stretching ratio for a fixed value of the magnetic parameter. For a fixed stretching ratio, the surface shear stresses increase with the magnetic parameter, but the heat transfer decreases. The Nusselt number takes longer time to reach the steady state than the skin friction coefficients. There is a smooth transition from the initial unsteady state to the steady state.  相似文献

This article has been retracted. See retraction notice DOI: 10.1002/mma.850 . An unsteady flow and heat transfer in a porous medium of a viscous incompressible fluid over a rotating disk in an otherwise ambient fluid are studied. The unsteadiness in the flow field is caused by the angular velocity of the disk which varies with time. The new self‐similar solution of the Navier–Stokes and energy equations is obtained numerically. The solution obtained here is not only the solution of the Navier–Stokes equations, but also of the boundary layer equations. Also, for a simple scaling factor, it represents the solution of the flow and heat transfer in the forward stagnation‐point region of a rotating sphere or over a rotating cone. The asymptotic behaviour of the solution for a large porosity or for a large independent variable is also examined. The surface shear stresses in the radial and tangential directions and the surface heat transfer increase as the acceleration parameter increases. Also, the surface shear stress in the radial direction and the surface heat transfer decrease with increasing porosity, but the surface shear stress in the tangential direction increases. This paper presents a mathematical analysis of MHD flow and heat transfer to a laminar liquid film from a horizontal stretching surface. The flow of a thin fluid film and subsequent heat transfer from the stretching surface is investigated with the aid of similarity transformation. The transformation enables to reduce the unsteady boundary layer equations to a system of non-linear ordinary differential equations. Numerical solution of resulting non-linear differential equations is found by using efficient shooting technique. Boundary layer thickness is explored numerically for some typical values of the unsteadiness parameter S and Prandtl number Pr, Eckert number Ec and Magnetic parameter Mn. Present analysis shows that the combined effect of magnetic field and viscous dissipation is to enhance the thermal boundary layer thickness.  相似文献

The laminar flow and heat transfer of an incompressible, third grade, electrically conducting fluid impinging normal to a plane in the presence of a uniform magnetic field is investigated. The heat transfer analysis has been carried out for two heating processes, namely, (i) with prescribed surface temperature (PST-case) and (ii) prescribed surface heat flux (PHF-case). By means of the similarity transformation, the governing non-linear partial differential equations are reduced to a system of non-linear ordinary differential equations and are solved by a second-order numerical technique. Effects of various non-Newtonian fluid parameters, magnetic parameter, Prandtl number on the velocity and temperature fields have been investigated in detail and shown graphically. It is found that the velocity gradient at the wall decreases as the third grade fluid parameter increases.  相似文献

In this article, the off-centered stagnation flow towards a rotating disc is studied analytically. The governing non-linear equations and their associated boundary conditions are transformed into coupled non-linear ordinary differential equations. The series solution of the problem is obtained by utilizing the HAM. The convergence of the obtained series solutions is carefully checked. Graphical results are presented to investigate the influence of the rotation ratio on the flow field. An important point to note is that the non-alignment complicates the flow field and surface shear, but does not affect the torque. It is noted that the behavior of the HAM solution for velocity components is in good agreement with the numerical solution given in reference [C.Y. Wang, Off-centered stagnation flow towards a rotating disc, Int. J. Eng. Sci. 46 (2008) 391–396].  相似文献

Numerical results are presented for heat and mass transfer effect on hydromagnetic flow of a moving permeable vertical surface. An analysis is performed to study the momentum, heat and mass transfer characteristics of MHD natural convection flow over a moving permeable surface. The surface is maintained at linear temperature and concentration variations. The non-linear coupled boundary layer equations were transformed and the resulting ordinary differential equations were solved by perturbation technique [Aziz A, Na TY. Perturbation methods in heat transfer. Berlin: Springer-Verlag; 1984. p. 1–184; Kennet Cramer R, Shih-I Pai. Magneto fluid dynamics for engineers and applied physicists 1973;166–7]. The solution is found to be dependent on several governing parameter, including the magnetic field strength parameter, Prandtl number, Schmidt number, buoyancy ratio and suction/blowing parameter, a parametric study of all the governing parameters is carried out and representative results are illustrated to reveal a typical tendency of the solutions. Numerical results for the dimensionless velocity profiles, the temperature profiles, the concentration profiles, the local friction coefficient and the local Nusselt number are presented for various combinations of parameters.  相似文献

Natural convection boundary layer laminar flow from a horizontal circular cylinder with uniform heat flux in presence of heat generation has been investigated. The governing boundary layer equations are transformed into a non-dimensional form and the resulting non-linear systems of partial differential equations, which are solved numerically by two distinct methods namely: (i) implicit finite difference method together with the Keller-box scheme and (ii) perturbation solution technique. The results of the surface shear stress in terms of local skin-friction and the rate of heat transfer in terms of local Nusselt number, velocity distribution, velocity vectors, temperature distribution as well as streamlines, isotherms and isolines of pressure are shown by graphically for a selection of parameter set consisting of heat generation parameter.  相似文献

Stagnation slip flow and heat transfer characteristics of a viscous fluid over a nonlinear stretching surface has been investigated. The governing partial differential equations are transformed to nonlinear ordinary differential equations using similarity transformations. The analytical solution of the nonlinear system is obtained in series form using the very efficient homotopy analysis method (HAM). Convergence of the series solution is shown explicitly. Important features of flow and heat transfer characteristics are plotted and discussed. Comparison is made with existing numerical results when the stagnation‐point and slip effects are excluded. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Numer Methods Partial Differential Eq, 2011  相似文献

Lie group method is investigated for solving the problem of heat transfer in an unsteady, three-dimensional, laminar, boundary-layer flow of a viscous, incompressible and electrically conducting fluid over inclined permeable surface embedded in porous medium in the presence of a uniform magnetic field and heat generation/absorption effects. A uniform magnetic field is applied in the y-direction and a generalized flow model is presented to include the effects of the macroscopic viscous term and the microscopic permeability of porous medium. The infinitesimal generators accepted by the equations are calculated and the extension of the Lie algebra for the problem is also presented. The restrictions imposed by the boundary conditions on the generators are calculated. The investigation of the three-independent-variable partial differential equations is converted into a two-independent-variable system by using one subgroup of the general group. The resulting equations are solved numerically with the perturbation solution for various times. Velocity, temperature and pressure profiles, surface shear stresses, and wall-heat transfer rate are discussed for various values of Prandtl number, Hartmann number, Darcy number, heat generation/absorption coefficient, and surface mass-transfer coefficient.  相似文献

An analysis is presented to investigate the Hall and Ion-slip effects on fully developed electrically conducting couple stress fluid flow between vertical parallel plates in the presence of a temperature dependent heat source. The governing non-linear partial differential equations are transformed into a system of ordinary differential equations using similarity transformations and then solved using homotopy analysis method (HAM). The effects of the magnetic parameter, Hall parameter, Ion-slip parameter and couple stress fluid parameter on velocity and temperature are discussed and shown graphically.  相似文献

The theoretical study investigates turbulent film boiling on a sphere immersed in the stagnant liquid. It begins by assuming the surface temperature of the sphere is isothermal. The result shows that the boiling heat transfer under the turbulent vapour shows that both the temperature and the velocity present a non-linear distribution. Besides, the increase of the thermal radiation, wall temperature and buoyancy effects can enhance the heat transfer efficiency. Furthermore, a comparison between the results of the present study and those reported in a previous theoretical study of laminar film boiling is provided. It is found that turbulent film boiling with higher Rayleigh number will have higher Nusselt number.  相似文献

An attempt has been made to study laminar convective heat and mass transfer flow of an incompressible, viscous and electrically conducting fluid over an impulsively started vertical plate with conduction-radiation embedded in a porous medium in presence of transverse magnetic field. The influence of both second order chemical reaction and heat generation are taken into account. The governing coupled partial differential equations are solved by Crank-Nicolson method. The effects of important physical parameters on the velocity, temperature and concentration have been analyzed through graphs. The results of the present study agree well with the previous solutions. Applications of the present study are shown in material processing systems and different industries. The important findings of present study are: chemical reaction parameter acts as resistive force to reduce the velocity whereas heat source parameter enhances the velocity.  相似文献

The unsteady mixed convection boundary layer flow near the stagnation point on a heated vertical plate embedded in a fluid saturated porous medium is studied. It is assumed that the unsteadiness is caused by the impulsive motion of the free stream velocity and by sudden increase in the surface temperature. Both the buoyancy assisting and the buoyancy opposing flow situations are considered with combined effects of the first and second order resistance of solid matrix of non-Darcy porous medium, variable viscosity and radiation. The problem is reduced to a system of non-dimensional partial differential equations, which is solved numerically using the Keller-box method. The features of the flow and the heat transfer characteristics for different values of the governing parameters are analyzed and discussed. The surface shear stress and the heat transfer of the present study are compared with the available results and a good agreement is found.  相似文献

This work looks at the heat transfer effects on the flow of a second grade fluid over a radially stretching sheet. The axisymmetric flow of a second grade fluid is induced due to linear stretching of a sheet. Mathematical analysis has been carried out for two heating processes, namely (i) with prescribed surface temperature (PST case) and (ii) prescribed surface heat flux (PHF case). The modelled non-linear partial differential equations in two dependent variables are reduced into a partial differential equation with one dependent variable. The resulting non-linear partial differential equations are solved analytically using homotopy analysis method (HAM). The series solutions are developed and the convergence is properly discussed. The series solutions and graphs of velocity and temperature are constructed. Particular attention is given to the variations of emerging parameters such as second grade parameter, Prandtl and Eckert numbers.  相似文献

The laminar convective heat and mass transfer flow of an incompressible, viscous, electrically conducting fluid over an impulsively started vertical plate with conduction-radiation embedded in a porous medium in presence of transverse magnetic eld has been studied. An exact solution is derived by solving the dimensionless governing coupled partial differential equations. As the equations are nonlinear, so Laplace transform technique is used to solve it. The eects of important physical parameters on the velocity, temperature, concentration, skin friction, Nusselt number and Sherwood number have been analyzed through graphs. The results of the present study agree well with the previous solutions obtained without mass transfer. After the consideration of mass transfer, some dierent results are noticed. Applications of the present study arise in material processing systems and different industries.  相似文献

Series solution of magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) and rotating flow over a porous shrinking sheet is obtained by a homotopy analysis method (HAM). The viscous fluid is electrically conducting in the presence of a uniform applied magnetic field and the induced magnetic field is neglected for small magnetic Reynolds number. Similarity solutions of coupled non-linear ordinary differential equations resulting from the momentum equation are obtained. Convergence of the obtained solutions is ensured by the proper choice of auxiliary parameter. Graphs are sketched and discussed for various emerging parameters on the velocity field. The variations of the wall shear stress f″(0) and ?g′(0) are also tabulated and analyzed.  相似文献

The group theoretic method is applied for solving problem of a unsteady free-convective laminar boundary-layer flow on a non-isothermal vertical plate under the effect of an external velocity and a magnetic field normal to the plate. The application of two-parameter transformation group reduces the number of independent variables, by two, and consequently the system of governing partial differential equations with the boundary and initial conditions reduces to a system of ordinary differential equations with appropriate corresponding conditions. The Runge–Kutta shooting method used to find the numerical solution of the velocity field, shear stress, heat transfer and heat flux has been obtained. The effect of the magnetic field on the velocity field and the Prandtl number on the heat transfer and heat flux has been discussed.  相似文献

In this paper, an approximate analytical solution is derived for the flow velocity and temperature due to the laminar, two-dimensional flow of non-Newtonian incompressible visco elastic fluid due to a continuous stretching surface. The surface is stretched with a velocity proportional to the distance $x$ along the surface. The surface is assumed to have either power-law heat flux or power-law temperature distribution. The presence of source/sink and the effect of uniform suction and injection on the flow are considered for analysis. An approximate analytical solution has been obtained using Homotopy Analysis Method(HAM) for various values of visco elastic parameter, suction and injection rates. Optimal values of the convergence control parameters are computed for the flow variables. It was found that the computational time required for averaged residual error calculation is very very small compared to the computation time of exact squared residual errors. The effect of mass transfer parameter, visco elastic parameter, source/sink parameter and the power law index on flow variables such as velocity, temperature profiles, shear stress, heat and mass transfer rates are discussed.  相似文献
