We calculate \({\mathcal{S}^{{\it Diff}}(S^p \times S^q)}\), the smooth structure set of S p × S q , for p, q ≥ 2 and p + q ≥ 5. As a consequence we show that in general \({\mathcal{S}^{Diff}(S^{4j-1}\times S^{4k})}\) cannot admit a group structure such that the smooth surgery exact sequence is a long exact sequence of groups. We also show that the image of the forgetful map \({\mathcal{S}^{Diff}(S^{4j}\times S^{4k}) \rightarrow \mathcal{S}^{Top}(S^{4j}\times S^{4k})}\) is not in general a subgroup of the topological structure set.  相似文献

There is a natural duality between orbits of a real form G of a complex semisimple group G on a homogeneous rational manifold Z=G /P and those of the complexification K of any of its maximal compact subgroups K: (,) is a dual pair if is a K-orbit. The cycle space C() is defined to be the connected component containing the identity of the interior of {g:g() is non-empty and compact}. Using methods which were recently developed for the case of open G-orbits, geometric properties of cycles are proved, and it is shown that C() is contained in a domain defined by incidence geometry. We prove that the sufficient and necessary conditions for existence of anI regularn-simplex in ℝ n are that ifn is even thenn = 4m(m + 1), and ifn is odd thenn = 4m + 1 with thatn + 1 can be expressed as a sum of two integral squares orn = 4m - 1, and that the sufficient and necessary condition for existence of aII regularn-simplex in ℝ n isn = 2m 2 - 1 orn = 4m(m + 1)(m ∈ ℕ). Let X be a (closed) subspace of Lp with 1≤p<∞, and let A be any sectorial operator on X. We consider associated square functions on X, of the form and we show that if A admits a bounded H functional calculus on X, then these square functions are equivalent to the original norm of X. Then we deduce a similar result when X=H1(ℝN) is the usual Hardy space, for an appropriate choice of || ||F. For example if N=1, the right choice is the sum for hH1(ℝ), where H denotes the Hilbert transform.  相似文献

Let (M, g) be a compact Riemannian manifold of dimension n ≥  2 and 1 <  p ≤  2. In this work we prove the validity of the optimal Gagliardo–Nirenberg inequality
for a family of parameters r, q and θ. Our proof relies strongly on a new distance lemma which holds for 1 <  p ≤  2. In particular, we obtain Riemannian versions of L p -Euclidean Gagliardo–Nirenberg inequalities of Del Pino and Dolbeault (J Funct Anal 197:151–161, 2003) and extend the optimal L 2-Riemannian Gagliardo–Nirenberg inequality of Brouttelande (Proc R Soc Edinb 46:147–157, 2003) in a unified framework.  相似文献

For a given hypersurface ψ in PG(n, 2), with equation Q(x) = 0, where Q is a polynomial of (reduced) degree d > 1, a definition is given of the ψ-associate X # of a flat X in PG(n, 2). The definition involves the fully polarized form of the polynomial Q; in the cubic case d = 3 it reads: X # = {z ∈ PG(n, 2) | T(x, y, z) = 0 for all x, yX}, where T(x, y, z) denotes the alternating trilinear form obtained by completely polarizing Q. Some general results, valid for any degree d and projective dimension n, are first expounded. Thereafter several choices of ψ are visited, but for each choice just a few aspects are highlighted. Despite the partial nature of the survey quite a variety of behaviours of the ψ-associate are uncovered. Many of the choices of ψ which are considered are of cubic hypersurfaces in PG(5, 2). If ψ is the Segre variety it is shown that the 48 planes external to fall into eight pairs of ordered triplets {(P 1, R 1, S 1), (P 2, R 2, S 2)} such that and . Further those lines L of PG(5, 2) which are singular, satisfying that is L # = PG(5.2), are in this case shown to form a complete spread of 21 lines. Another result of note arises in the case where ψ is the underlying 35-set of a non-maximal partial spread Σ5 of five planes in PG(5, 2), where it is shown that one plane is singled out by the property that every line is singular.   相似文献

For minimal surfaces in spheres, there is a well known conjecture about the quantization of intrinsic curvature which has been solved only in special cases so far. We recall an intrinsic and an extrinsic version for the known results and extend them to compact non-minimal surfaces in spheres. In particular we discuss special classes like Willmore surfaces and surfaces with parallel mean curvature vector. This paper presents an approach using a recursive algorithm for packing (?, w)-rectangles into larger rectangular and L-shaped pieces. Such a problem has actual applications for non-guillotine cutting and pallet/container loading. Our motivation for developing the L-approach is based on the fact that it can solve difficult pallet loading instances. Indeed, it is able to solve all testing problems (more than 20 000 representatives of infinite equivalence classes of the literature), including the 18 hard instances unresolved by other heuristics. We conjecture that the L-approach always finds optimum packings of (?, w)-rectangles into rectangular pieces. Moreover, the approach may also be useful when dealing with cutting and packing problems involving L-shaped pieces.  相似文献

The spectral order on R n induces a natural partial ordering on the manifold of monic hyperbolic polynomials of degree n. We show that all differential operators of Laguerre–Pólya type preserve the spectral order. We also establish a global monotony property for infinite families of deformations of these operators parametrized by the space ℓ of real bounded sequences. As a consequence, we deduce that the monoid of linear operators that preserve averages of zero sets and hyperbolicity consists only of differential operators of Laguerre–Pólya type which are both extensive and isotonic. In particular, these results imply that any hyperbolic polynomial is the global minimum of its -orbit and that Appell polynomials are characterized by a global minimum property with respect to the spectral order.  相似文献

Let be a dense sub-semigroup of ℝ+, and let X be a separable, reflexive Banach space. This note contains a proof that every weakly continuous contractive semigroup of operators on X over can be extended to a weakly continuous semigroup over ℝ+. We obtain similar results for nonlinear, nonexpansive semigroups as well. As a corollary we characterize all densely parametrized semigroups which are extendable to semigroups over ℝ+. O.M. In this paper we show that the generalized KdV, generalized Camassa–Holm equations and the corresponding Möbius invariant generalized Schwarzian KdV, Schwarzian CH equations can be realized in terms of flows induced by on the space of differential operators and on the space of immersion curves, respectively. These are Euler–Poincaré type flows, and one of the flow takes place on an infinite-dimensional Poisson manifold and the other on a slightly degenerate infinite-dimensional Symplectic manifold. They form an Antiplectic pair. We also study Euler–Poincaré flow with respect to metric, and this induces generalized Camassa–Holm equation. The curve graph, , associated to a compact surface Σ is the 1-skeleton of the curve complex defined by Harvey. Masur and Minsky showed that this graph is hyperbolic and defined the notion of a tight geodesic therein. We prove some finiteness results for such geodesics. For example, we show that a slice of the union of tight geodesics between any pair of points has cardinality bounded purely in terms of the topological type of Σ. We deduce some consequences for the action of the mapping class group on . In particular, we show that it satisfies an acylindricity condition, and that the stable lengths of pseudoanosov elements are rational with bounded denominator. We derive some geometric properties of chordal SLE(κ;) processes. Using these results and the method of coupling two SLE processes, we prove that the outer boundary of the final hull of a chordal SLE(κ;) process has the same distribution as the image of a chordal SLE(κ’;’) trace, where κ>4, κ’=16/κ, and the forces and ’ are suitably chosen. We find that for κ≥8, the boundary of a standard chordal SLE(κ) hull stopped on swallowing a fixed is the image of some SLE(16/κ;) trace started from x. Then we obtain a new proof of the fact that chordal SLE(κ) trace is not reversible for κ>8. We also prove that the reversal of SLE(4;) trace has the same distribution as the time-change of some SLE(4;’) trace for certain values of and ’.  相似文献

We introduce a general context involving a presheaf and a subpresheaf ℬ of  . We show that all previously considered cases of local analysis of generalized functions (defined from duality or algebraic techniques) can be interpretated as the ℬ-local analysis of sections of  . But the microlocal analysis of the sections of sheaves or presheaves under consideration is dissociated into a “frequential microlocal analysis” and into a “microlocal asymptotic analysis”. The frequential microlocal analysis based on the Fourier transform leads to the study of propagation of singularities under only linear (including pseudodifferential) operators in the theories described here, but has been extended to some non linear cases in classical theories involving Sobolev techniques. The microlocal asymptotic analysis is a new spectral study of singularities. It can inherit from the algebraic structure of ℬ some good properties with respect to nonlinear operations.   相似文献

A classical result of P. Freyd and M. Kelly states that in “good” categories, the Orthogonal Subcategory Problem has a positive solution for all classes of morphisms whose members are, except possibly for a subset, epimorphisms. We prove that under the same assumptions on the base category and on , the generalization of the Small Object Argument of D. Quillen holds—that is, every object of the category has a cellular -injective weak reflection. In locally presentable categories, we prove a sharper result: a class of morphisms is called quasi-presentable if for some cardinal λ every member of the class is either λ-presentable or an epimorphism. Both the Orthogonal Subcategory Problem and the Small Object Argument are valid for quasi-presentable classes. Surprisingly, in locally ranked categories (used previously to generalize Quillen’s result), this is no longer true: we present a class of morphisms, all but one being epimorphisms, such that the orthogonality subcategory is not reflective and the injectivity subcategory Inj is not weakly reflective. We also prove that in locally presentable categories, the injectivity logic and the Orthogonality Logic are complete for all quasi-presentable classes. The aim of this paper is to give some representation formulas of Riesz and Poisson-Jensen type for super-solutions to a class of hypoelliptic ultraparabolic operators on a homogeneous Lie group . Our results complete the ones obtained in Cinti (Math Scand 100:1–21, 2007). We also provide a suitable theory for -Green functions and for -Green potentials of Radon measures.
