This article studies a discrete geometric structure on triangulated manifolds and an associated curvature flow (combinatorial Yamabe flow). The associated evolution of curvature appears to be like a heat equation on graphs, but it can be shown to not satisfy the maximum principle. The notion of a parabolic-like operator is introduced as an operator which satisfies the maximum principle, but may not be parabolic in the usual sense of operators on graphs. A maximum principle is derived for the curvature of combinatorial Yamabe flow under certain assumptions on the triangulation, and hence the heat operator is shown to be parabolic-like. The maximum principle then allows a characterization of the curvature as well was a proof of long term existence of the flow.  相似文献

Motivated by the definition of combinatorial scalar curvature given by Cooper and Rivin, we introduce a new combinatorial scalar curvature. Then we define the discrete quasi-Einstein metric, which is a combinatorial analogue of the constant scalar curvature metric in smooth case. We find that discrete quasi-Einstein metric is critical point of both the combinatorial Yamabe functional and the quadratic energy functional we defined on triangulated 3-manifolds. We introduce combinatorial curvature flows, including a new type of combinatorial Yamabe flow, to study the discrete quasi-Einstein metrics and prove that the flows produce solutions converging to discrete quasi-Einstein metrics if the initial normalized quadratic energy is small enough. As a corollary, we prove that nonsingular solution of the combinatorial Yamabe flow with nonpositive initial curvatures converges to discrete quasi-Einstein metric. The proof relies on a careful analysis of the discrete dual-Laplacian, which we interpret as the Jacobian matrix of curvature map.  相似文献

Let be a compact oriented Riemannian manifold with an incomplete edge singularity. This article shows that it is possible to evolve g by the Yamabe flow within a class of singular edge metrics. As the main analytic step we establish parabolic Schauder‐type estimates for the heat operator on certain Hölder spaces adapted to the singular edge geometry. We apply these estimates to obtain local existence for a variety of quasilinear equations, including the Yamabe flow. This provides a setup for a subsequent discussion of the Yamabe problem using flow techniques in the singular setting.  相似文献

A combinatorial version of Yamabe flow is presented based on Euclidean triangulations coming from sphere packings. The evolution of curvature is then derived and shown to satisfy a heat equation. The Laplacian in the heat equation is shown to be a geometric analogue of the Laplacian of Riemannian geometry, although the maximum principle need not hold. It is then shown that if the flow is nonsingular, the flow converges to a constant curvature metric.  相似文献

As a counterpart of the classical Yamabe problem, a fractional Yamabe flow has been introduced by Jin and Xiong (2014) on the sphere. Here we pursue its study in the context of general compact smooth manifolds with positive fractional curvature. First, we prove that the flow is locally well posed in the weak sense on any compact manifold. If the manifold is locally conformally flat with positive Yamabe invariant, we also prove that the flow is smooth and converges to a constant fractional curvature metric. We provide different proofs using extension properties introduced by Chang and González (2011) for the conformally covariant fractional order operators.  相似文献

In this paper, we study the CR(Cauchy-Riemann) Yamabe flow with zero CR Yamabe invariant.We use the CR Poincaré inequality and a Gagliardo-Nirenberg type interpolation inequality to show that this flow has the long time solution and the solution converges to a contact form with flat pseudo-Hermitian scalar curvature exponentially.  相似文献

We introduce the concept $h$-almost Yamabe soliton which extends naturally the almost Yamabe soliton by Barbosa-Ribeiro and obtain some rigidity results concerning $h$-almost Yamabe solitons. Some condition for a compact $h$-almost Yamabe soliton to be a gradient soliton is also obtained. In this paper, we first show the global existence of the three-dimensionalCalabi flow on any closed 3-manifold with an arbitrary background metric g 0. Second, we show the asymptotic convergence of a subsequence ofsolutions of the Calabi flow on a closed 3-manifold with Yamabe constant Q < 0 or Q = 0 and Q > 0, up to conformal transformations. With itsapplication, we prove the existence of extremal metrics for quadraticfunctional of scalar curvature on a closed 3-manifold which is served asan extension of the Yamabe problem on closed manifolds. We use the heat flow on the loop space of a closed Riemannian manifold—viewed as a parabolic boundary value problem for infinite cylinders—to construct an algebraic chain complex. The chain groups are generated by perturbed closed geodesics. The boundary operator is defined by counting, modulo time shift, heat flow trajectories between geodesics of Morse index difference one. By Salamon and Weber (GAFA 16:1050–138, 2006) this heat flow homology is naturally isomorphic to Floer homology of the cotangent bundle for Hamiltonians given by kinetic plus potential energy.  相似文献

We provide a variety of classes of functions that can be realized as the mean curvature on the boundary of the standard n dimensional ball, n ≥ 3, with respect to some scalar flat metric. Because of the presence of some critical nonlinearity, blow up phenomena occur and existence results are highly nontrivial since one has to overcome topological obstructions. Our approach consists of, on one hand, developing a Morse theoretical approach to this problem through a Morse-type reduction of the associated Euler–Lagrange functional in a neighborhood of its critical points at Infinity and, on the other hand, extending to this problem some topological invariants introduced by A. Bahri in his study of Yamabe type problems on closed manifolds.  相似文献

This paper is focused on looking for links between the topology of a connected and non-compact surface with finitely many ends and any proper discrete Morse function which can be defined on it. More precisely, we study the non-compact surfaces which admit a proper discrete Morse function with a given number of critical elements. In [5], we presented a discrete Morse Theory that can be applied to general cell complexes. In particular, we defined the notion of a discrete Morse function, along with its associated set of critical cells. We also constructed a discrete Morse cocomplex, built from the critical cells and the gradient paths between them, which has the same cohomology as the underlying cell complex. In this paper we show how various cohomological operations are induced by maps between Morse cocomplexes. For example, given three discrete Morse functions, we construct a map from the tensor product of the first two Morse cocomplexes to the third Morse cocomplex which induces the cup product on cohomology. All maps are constructed by counting certain configurations of gradient paths. This work is closely related to the corresponding formulas in the smooth category as presented by Betz and Cohen [2] and Fukaya [11], [12].

We consider the problem of prescribing conformally the scalar curvature on compact manifolds of positive Yamabe class in dimension . We prove new existence results using Morse theory and some analysis on blowing-up solutions under suitable pinching conditions on the curvature function. We also provide new nonexistence results showing the sharpness of some of our assumptions, both in terms of the dimension and of the Morse structure of the prescribed function. © 2021 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.  相似文献
