For a family of second‐order elliptic operators with rapidly oscillating periodic coefficients, we study the asymptotic behavior of the Green and Neumann functions, using Dirichlet and Neumann correctors. As a result we obtain asymptotic expansions of Poisson kernels and the Dirichlet‐to‐Neumann maps as well as optimal convergence rates in Lp and W1,p for solutions with Dirichlet or Neumann boundary conditions. © 2014 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.  相似文献

The resolution of boundary value problems by integral equations is usually based on isomorphisms between the solution of the boundary value problem and boundary data. Using an abstract Green formula in a Hilbert space framework, we prove these isomorphisms. Many applications are given, like the Dirichlet and Neumann problems for the Laplace operator, as well as the clamped and free plate problems in the plane.  相似文献

In this work, the modified Green function technique for the exterior Dirichlet problem in linear thermoelasticity is presented. Expressing the solution of the problem as a double‐layer potential of an unknown density, we form the associated boundary integral equation that describes the problem. Exploiting that the discrete spectrum of the irregular values of the associated integral equation is identified with the spectrum of eigenvalues of the corresponding interior homogeneous Neumann problem for the transverse part of the elastic displacement field, we introduce a modification of the fundamental solution of the elastic field. We establish the sufficient conditions that the coefficients of the modification must satisfy to overcome the problem of nonuniqueness for the thermoelastic problem.  相似文献

We consider the elliptic system of linear elasticity with bounded measurable coefficients in a domain where the second Korn inequality holds. We construct heat kernel of the system subject to Dirichlet, Neumann, or mixed boundary condition under the assumption that weak solutions of the elliptic system are Hölder continuous in the interior. Moreover, we show that if weak solutions of the mixed problem are Hölder continuous up to the boundary, then the corresponding heat kernel has a Gaussian bound. In particular, if the domain is a two dimensional Lipschitz domain satisfying a corkscrew or non-tangential accessibility condition on the set where we specify Dirichlet boundary condition, then we show that the heat kernel has a Gaussian bound. As an application, we construct Green's function for elliptic mixed problem in such a domain.  相似文献

We analyze the behavior of solutions of steady advection‐diffusion problems in bounded domains with prescribed Dirichlet data when the Péclet number Pe ? 1 is large. We show that the solution converges to a constant in each flow cell outside a boundary layer of width O(?1/2), ? = Pe?1, around the flow separatrices. We construct an ?‐dependent approximate “water pipe problem” purely inside the boundary layer that provides a good approximation of the solution of the full problem but has ?‐independent computational cost. We also define an asymptotic problem on the graph of streamline separatrices and show that solution of the water pipe problem itself may be approximated by an asymptotic, ?‐independent problem on this graph. Finally, we show that the Dirichlet‐to‐Neumann map of the water pipe problem approximates the Dirichlet‐to‐Neumann map of the separatrix problem with an error independent of the flow outside the boundary layers. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.  相似文献

Initial‐boundary value problems for integrable nonlinear partial differential equations have become tractable in recent years due to the development of so‐called unified transform techniques. The main obstruction to applying these methods in practice is that calculation of the spectral transforms of the initial and boundary data requires knowledge of too many boundary conditions, more than are required to make the problem well‐posed. The elimination of the unknown boundary values is frequently addressed in the spectral domain via the so‐called global relation, and types of boundary conditions for which the global relation can be solved are called linearizable. For the defocusing nonlinear Schrödinger equation, the global relation is only known to be explicitly solvable in rather restrictive situations, namely homogeneous boundary conditions of Dirichlet, Neumann, and Robin (mixed) type. General nonhomogeneous boundary conditions are not known to be linearizable. In this paper, we propose an explicit approximation for the nonlinear Dirichlet‐to‐Neumann map supplied by the defocusing nonlinear Schrödinger equation and use it to provide approximate solutions of general nonhomogeneous boundary value problems for this equation posed as an initial‐boundary value problem on the half‐line. Our method sidesteps entirely the solution of the global relation. The accuracy of our method is proven in the semiclassical limit, and we provide explicit asymptotics for the solution in the interior of the quarter‐plane space‐time domain.  相似文献

ABSTRACT. In this work we consider the increase in benefit for a control problem when the size of domain increases. Our control problem involves the study of the profitability of a biological growing species whose growth is confined to a bounded domain Ω? RN and is modeled by a logistic elliptic equation with different boundary conditions (Dirichlet or Neumann). The payoff-cost functional considered, J, is of quadratic type. We prove that, under Dirichlet boundary conditions, the optimal benefit (sup J) increases when the domain ? increases. This is not true under Neumann boundary conditions.  相似文献

We prove global existence for the Vlasov-Poisson system in a half space in the plasma physics case assuming homogeneous Dirichlet boundary conditions for the electric potential. Our proof uses an adaptation of Pfaffelmoser's method and it provides also a different proof of the previously known global existence results for the Vlasov-Poisson system in a half space with Neumann boundary conditions for the electric potential. We also obtain a large class of one-dimensional stationary solutions for the problem with Neumann boundary conditions.  相似文献

We consider the stationary flow in a cavity with a moving lid, and as a mathematical model we use a fourth-order partial differential equation in the current function with boundary conditions of Neumann and Dirichlet type. The solution is constructed using the apparatus of R-functions.Translated fromMatematicheskie Metody i Fiziko-Mekhanicheskie Polya, Issue 33, 1991, pp. 95–99.  相似文献

We consider the inverse scattering problem of determining the shape and location of a crack surrounded by a known inhomogeneous media. Both the Dirichlet boundary condition and a mixed type boundary conditions are considered. In order to avoid using the background Green function in the inversion process, a reciprocity relationship between the Green function and the solution of an auxiliary scattering problem is proved. Then we focus on extending the factorization method to our inverse shape reconstruction problems by using far field measurements at fixed wave number. We remark that this is done in a non intuitive space for the mixed type boundary condition as we indicate in the sequel.  相似文献

We consider a planar waveguide modeled by the Laplacian in a straight infinite strip with the Dirichlet boundary condition on the upper boundary and with frequently alternating boundary conditions (Dirichlet and Neumann) on the lower boundary. The homogenized operator is the Laplacian subject to the Dirichlet boundary condition on the upper boundary and to the Dirichlet or Neumann condition on the lower one. We prove the uniform resolvent convergence for the perturbed operator in both cases and obtain the estimates for the rate of convergence. Moreover, we construct the leading terms of the asymptotic expansions for the first band functions and the complete asymptotic expansion for the bottom of the spectrum. Bibliography: 17 titles. We consider the wave equation in an unbounded conical domain, with initial conditions and boundary conditions of Dirichlet or Neumann type. We give a uniform decay estimate of the solution in terms of weighted Sobolev norms of the initial data. The decay rate is the same as in the full space case.  相似文献

We construct and analyze a family of well‐conditioned boundary integral equations for the Krylov iterative solution of three‐dimensional elastic scattering problems by a bounded rigid obstacle. We develop a new potential theory using a rewriting of the Somigliana integral representation formula. From these results, we generalize to linear elasticity the well‐known Brakhage–Werner and combined field integral equation formulations. We use a suitable approximation of the Dirichlet‐to‐Neumann map as a regularizing operator in the proposed boundary integral equations. The construction of the approximate Dirichlet‐to‐Neumann map is inspired by the on‐surface radiation conditions method. We prove that the associated integral equations are uniquely solvable and possess very interesting spectral properties. Promising analytical and numerical investigations, in terms of spherical harmonics, with the elastic sphere are provided. Copyright © 2014 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

Summary. We consider the heat equation in a smooth domain of R with Dirichlet and Neumann boundary conditions. It is solved by using its integral formulation with double-layer potentials, where the unknown , the jump of the solution through the boundary, belongs to an anisotropic Sobolev space. We approximate by the Galerkin method and use a prewavelet basis on , which characterizes the anisotropic space. The use of prewavelets allows to compress the stiffness matrix from to when N is the size of the matrix, and the condition number of the compressed matrix is uniformly bounded as the initial one in the prewavelet basis. Finally we show that the compressed scheme converges as fast as the Galerkin one, even for the Dirichlet problem which does not admit a coercive variational formulation. We consider the initial value boundary problem with zero Neumann data for an equation modeled after the porous media equation, with variable coefficients. The spatial domain is unbounded and shaped like a (general) paraboloid, and the solution u is integrable in space and nonnegative. We show that the asymptotic profile for large times of u is one dimensional and given by an explicit function, which can be regarded as the fundamental solution of a one-dimensional differential equation with weights. In the case when the domain is a cone or the whole space (Cauchy problem), we obtain a genuine multidimensional profile given by the well-known Barenblatt solution.  相似文献

We investigate analytical properties of a measure geometric Laplacian which is given as the second derivative w.r.t. two atomless finite Borel measures μ and ν with compact supports supp μ ? supp ν on the real line. This class of operators includes a generalization of the well‐known Sturm‐Liouville operator as well as of the measure geometric Laplacian given by . We obtain for this differential operator under both Dirichlet and Neumann boundary conditions similar properties as known in the classical Lebesgue case for the euclidean Laplacian like Gauß‐Green‐formula, inversion formula, compactness of the resolvent and its kernel representation w.r.t. the corresponding Green function. Finally we prove nuclearity of the resolvent and give two representations of its trace.  相似文献

We establish uniform Lipschitz estimates for second‐order elliptic systems in divergence form with rapidly oscillating, almost‐periodic coefficients. We give interior estimates as well as estimates up to the boundary in bounded C1,α domains with either Dirichlet or Neumann data. The main results extend those in the periodic setting due to Avellaneda and Lin for interior and Dirichlet boundary estimates and later Kenig, Lin, and Shen for the Neumann boundary conditions. In contrast to these papers, our arguments are constructive (and thus the constants are in principle computable) and the results for the Neumann conditions are new even in the periodic setting, since we can treat nonsymmetric coefficients. We also obtain uniform W1,p estimates.© 2016 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.  相似文献

We describe global time existence nd uniqueness results for the wave equations with boundary conditions of Dirichlet type on a characteresitc cone and either Dirichlet or Neumann type on a timelike tube. We find that the solution is in general only half as regular as the data and we provide estimates which describe the differing differentiabilities of the solution in directions which are either tangent or transvers to the characteristic cone.  相似文献

We propose a new numerical method for the solution of the Bernoulli free boundary value problem for harmonic functions in a doubly connected domain D in where an unknown free boundary Γ0 is determined by prescribed Cauchy data on Γ0 in addition to a Dirichlet condition on the known boundary Γ1. Our main idea is to involve the conformal mapping method as proposed and analyzed by Akduman, Haddar, and Kress for the solution of a related inverse boundary value problem. For this, we interpret the free boundary Γ0 as the unknown boundary in the inverse problem to construct Γ0 from the Dirichlet condition on Γ0 and Cauchy data on the known boundary Γ1. Our method for the Bernoulli problem iterates on the missing normal derivative on Γ1 by alternating between the application of the conformal mapping method for the inverse problem and solving a mixed Dirichlet–Neumann boundary value problem in D. We present the mathematical foundations of our algorithm and prove a convergence result. Some numerical examples will serve as proof of concept of our approach. We prove that the solution of the Neumann problem for the Helmholtz equation in a plane angle Ω with boundary conditions from the space H−1/2(Γ), where Γ is the boundary of Ω, which is provided by the well‐known Sommerfeld integral, belongs to the Sobolev space H1(Ω) and depends continuously on the boundary values. To this end, we use another representation of the solution given by the inverse two‐dimensional Fourier transform of an analytic function depending on the Cauchy data of the solution.
